The Clockhouse Restaurant in Moray

Really nice and relaxed evening in this lovely restaurant. Service was prompt and food was very tasty, we had the seafood chowder and haggis starters, lamb main and chocolate brownie dessert. Great food, well presented, also good value for money compared to other options in the village (limited!). Would highly recommend!

We called in here for evening dinner after being let down at the Glenavon Hotel. We hadn't booked a table but they managed to fit us in even though most of the tables were reserved.The place soon filled up and there was a good atmosphere. There was a good choice of food and drink and the service was very good. We both had the Sea Bass washed down with a glass of wine, followed by the Cheese board ( My wife ) and Sticky Toffee Pudding ( Myself ). A good night out with excellent food and service to go with it. Highly recommended.

we booked the local wigwams in Tomintoul and stumbled on this restaurant I had the lamb shank and my partner had the wild garlic and mushroom dish and we couldn’t believe how good the food was it was absolutely delicious and so well priced for the quality, we decided to go back the second night of our stay and had the roe deer dish, haggis neeps and tatties dish and prawn and salmon cocktail, 5 different dishes in 2 days and every single one was unbelievably delicious what a hidden gem to find would absolutely recommend as a top quality restaurant. Hats off to the Chef and the friendly staff. Thank you

Only came for a drink not long after we arrived from an 8 hour drive. Staff, bar, prices all good. Nice seating area outside the place aswell to relax. Only thing that marred my experience was a local weirdo "Steve" on his mobility scooter who "likes to talk to people" whilst blowing his cigarette smoke everywhere and talk absolute drivel to a couple of tired and weary travellers. He was a nice enough bloke really, but refused to take the hints that we wanted to enjoy our drinks in peace. As far as the place goes, great but just be on the lookout if you choose to sit outside.

Booked by phone and they had a single setting table for me which made a nice change. I asked for guidance on the wine, but the server couldn’t offer any advice. Disappointed with the starter which sounded great but was just a 70’s prawn cocktail with smoked salmon on top. The Sea-bass special was fantastic, worth the visit just for that. But then was immediately asked if I wanted the dessert menu, I said not yet, so they brought the bill. I explained I simply wanted more time before dessert. The dessert menu was uninspired and I wish restaurants tried harder. The bill was brought unasked as soon as dessert was cleared, ‘no rush’ they said, then brought and left the card machine on the table. At this point there was still wine in my glass and water in the bottle of sparkling water I had ordered. Once I had completed the main I felt rushed, they had reservations and walk-ins and clearly I was outstaying my welcome. Perhaps this is the new normal but I was there just over an hour which is not an evening out, particularly when you are out alone.

We came in on a tour bus and on a tight schedule and they were gracious enough to go out of their way to get us appetizers and meals served together to make sure we had plenty of time to make our departure time. The food was amazing, I recommend the specials. The price was very affordable, especially for such high quality. If we’re ever back in the area, we’re coming back

Delicious gin with fancy ice cubes. Enjoyed a fantastic 3 course meal. Prompt welcoming service. Not pretentious just quality. We had such a lovely evening.

Tolles Essen, sehr freundlicher Service, schöne Auswahl an Gerichten. Verschiedene Vorspeisen, alle ausgezeichnet. Ebenso die Hauptgänge. Das Risotto wurde von einigen als zu süß wahrgenommen, aber der Lachs war super ebenso wie das Wild und Hähnchen. Nachspeisen auch sehr lecker.

Walked in without a reservation this evening, the restaurant looked pretty busy, a lot of tables reserved, however, they seated us straight away, she’d said it might take a while to take our order, but we could have a drink while waiting. Hardly any wait at all, great meal, cosy restaurant,and really nice service. Recommend booking if you can as it was busy & I believe kitchen closes at 9pm.

Stopped in for lunch, the seafood chowder was full of flavour and great value. The fish and chips two bits of fish and the homemade tartare sauce delicious. Would defo recommend if stopping in Tomintoul.

The Clockhouse fully merits its reputation for fine dining in the Scottish genre. I dined there after a long day's drive and was wholly uplifted by the experience: a warm welcome, attentive, well-paced service, a menu of variety and imagination, and a congenial atmosphere. I dined on tartlet of locally-sourced mushrooms followed by the venison special which was spot-on in terms of cooking and saucing. Wine selection was small but sufficient and offered by the glass, ideal for a lone diner. Staff was small but efficient. Entire experience was so very fulfiling.

Really good food served by two of the loveliest, hard working staff ever! The Clock House is a restaurant I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

This restaurant is homely and very comfortable with tasty food and a friendly welcoming service. The food is cooked to a very high standard and presentation is on the same level! The meals were cooked perfectly and for once I was thankful to find that I could taste each ingredient and it didn’t blur and hide into some spice concoction that hid the food you were eating. Absolute honest, tasty ingredients with attentive hosts! I would one hundred percent recommend the clock-house restaurant to any one that is looking for a lovely dining experience coupled with a smile and some down to earth people! Remember to book ahead as they quite understandably are usually fully booked!

Had a fabulous lunch. I hear dinner is great here too. Seafood chowder was amazing!! Had small portion but it was large enough and filling. The club sandwich came with fresh perfectly baked bread, crusty outside soft inside. The meats and cheese selection was lovely too! Very friendly staff. Came here for lunch with our walking group, having phoned to book in advance. Staff kindly rearranged tables to suit us and were happy to provide a mix of sandwiches and main meals, plus half portions for those with smaller appetites.

Spending a week in a local holiday cottage it was great to be able to pop in and book an evening meal. A varied menu was offered, food served to us was excellent, service was good and staff friendly and professional.

Found this a short walk from our guesthouse. I had the mackerel, it was excellent. The fish was juicy, the way the potatoes were done was new to me. Also the discovered the Black Gold stout, lovely beer.

Our first visit to Tomintoul celebrated with a first night meal in the Clockhouse. The service was very good, the atmosphere was very friendly but this was all surpassed by the quality of the food.All 3 courses were delicious and the prices were very reasonable too.A very well recommended restaurant.

Booked a table here for an evening meal. Menu wasn’t extensive but enough but tempt most, including a couple of good vegetarian options. Husband had the seafood chowder which he awarded 10/10 and said it was probably the best chowder he’d ever eaten. The rest of the meal was equally delicious, we ordered a salmon and a lamb dish, everything was perfectly cooked and perfectly served. Overall, a wonderful meal in a lovely restaurant, staff were great too. Highly recommended.

We couldn't miss this restuarant thanks to the banners, etc. The 'Lunch Time' menu outside had us confused for a moment only, but the lack of one in braille was a let down :-) The restaurant is very comfortable and most of the staff had geniune warmth, especially the slightly forgetful waitress. One efficient staff member seemed to be from the set of 'Trainspotting' and added a certain artistic frissance. The decor is very modern and interesting. You will be lucky it seemed to get a table without booking. The food was truly excellent and displayed artistically at a very reasonable price.

Tomintoul isn't a big place. We were passing through it on our way to Grantown-on-Spey and stopped to look for somewhere to have lunch. We walked up the main street, and there on a corner was this lovely restaurant. The menu was displayed outside and reading it we couldn't believe our luck. Here was everything we wanted - Scottish fare at its finest! We went inside and were shown to a table.
