Proper old school pub. Popped in here to watch the football. Seriously busy but a group made space for us to sit down. The lady behind the bar was like an octopus getting the drinks served and very friendly. But wow.. the prices… and in a good way we’re seriously cheap for Hastings.

Me and my wife entered the clarence pub on Halloween night 31st October 2020 dressed for the occasion. We got turned away at first because of the covid restrictions which is totally understandable. Anyway a lovely couple made space for me and the wife to sit with them. I got them a round of drinks to show our appreciation and we got talking an the vibe was good. As a northerner living in hastings we like to mingle and have laugh as we will talk to anyone. However we did not realise that our friendly way of socialising did not work both ways. What happend next was totally out of order. I was having some banter with a west ham fan as they had just played and got beat off liverpool. Anyway we had a good chat and i went over to sit with my wife as so off he went to sit with his companion/s. So me being me started some banter about football with 3 other fellas who were sat just to side of me. Big mistake. Not going to mention what went on but it got very vocal and insulting from 1 of the lads. The 1 individual made me and my wife feel very intimidated and made us feel outcasts because of our accents. If you are visiting Hastings and you are not from the area I would recommend avoiding this pub. Staff were nice but punters were a disgrace.

The DOVE Cafe is on Bexhill Road itself. The Dugout Cafe is at the back of shops on Bexhill Road. I added this review as when I search for The Dove Cafe, it brings up The Dugout Cafe. THEY ARE DIFFERENT ESTABLISHMENTS.

The Coffee Pod is one of several coffee stops on Hastings seafront open from 8am (see also “Goat Ledge Café” and “Starsky and Hatch”) but has the disadvantage that it is exposed to the elements (wind, rain etc). After seeing a lot of good reviews online decided I must try and visit. In the end we visited twice: once of an early morning coffee, then again for an ice-cream one afternoon. The Coffee Pod seems to be part of Goodmans Barbers and Coffee Spot which is situated in The Courtyard nearby and also on St Leonard’s seafront.
