Stayed here last month. Really nice place, lovely location and locely courtyard. Food was very good. Great powerful shower. Only small complaint was the room was extrmely hot (and not even a hot day) but there was a portable fan in the room so wasn’t too bad. Would definitely stay again.

A really great pub, staff so friendly, food and beers really good, set in a lovely village setting, and the rooms are very well appointed, clean and comfortable. Nothing at this pub was too much trouble, and its is very dog friendly, in the rooms and pub/restaurant. We stopped off to break our journey south and so pleased we did. Gardens are really well kept and to top it off breakfast was amazing, one of the best pub full english breakfasts i have ever had. Well done to all. definitely on my list to drop in again.

Had the most excellent Sunday lunch and an evening meal during our stay. Had a 2 night stay in the barn conversion. Lovely clean and comfortable accommodation. Even a fridge in room with fresh milk and bottled water. The breakfasts were excellent with a varied selection of fresh fruit, yoghurts and a very varied menu. The full English breakfasts were freshly cooked and beautifully presented. Really friendly and welcoming staff. Would thoroughly recomnend and will definitely stay again if in the area. . .

Always a favourite place for lunch, Mum and I stopped by today and I have to say the ‘pie of the day’ was superb! Flaky pastry and the most delicious filling of chicken, ham & leek with the best fondant mashed potatoes and gravy. It really was the best! Mum had crab, lobster and chilli linguine and that too was very good. Thank you for the best lunch & great service!

Not very often do I write a review. After our recent experience, I thought the need to do so. We booked a table for 6 adults on Saturday 10th August at 2 pm at the Chomeley Arms. On the Cholmeley Arms web site it states the kitchen is open from 12noon till 9pm. We ordered our meal soon after arrival which came after about 25min, no problem as we were with family who we hadn't seen for a while. The main course followed in due course which nearly everyone was happy with. Then things went awry, we were left with the table not being cleared and us waiting to order a desert. After about 30mins, someone came to clear our table and asked if we wanted anymore drinks, when we told him we were waiting to order our desert he was surprised that we had not ordered already. He then said our chef had gone home, bearing in mind the kitchen was open for food until 9pm and all he could offer was a crème brulee or ice cream. Very disappointed as this used to be our favourite place to eat. When our family come to visit, they always ask us to book at the Chomeley as they also liked the place. I am sorry to say, ever since the new management has taken over the restaurant it is not as good. We have been four times since new ownership, there will not be a fifth.

Stayed at the pub again, 5 visit to stay over and enjoy the lovely food and relax in a perfect room. We went for dinner and I was delighted to see fillet steak on the specials menu, I chose this dish, absolutely perfect, cooked to perfection and very tasty, my partner chose the fish pie and again, lovely. The kitchen team are so consistent in delivering perfect food while at the same time offering a varied menu, the prices I would say are under priced, the steak I had was advertised as 6oz, I would say it was more like 8 or 10oz, cooked to perfection and accompanied by lovely home cut chips. The room had a lovely comfy king size bed and every thing needed for a good night. Breakfast was just devine. So not the first time we have stayed at the pub and it certainly wont be the last, already looking at another suitable weekend for our next visit. Lovely people in the pub who do look after you, also very pleasant. Andy Shutt - Stayed on 09 Aug 2024 in "Parsons Holt"

We stayed here last year en route to our holiday under the previous management and had a fantastic stay. We were aware there was new management so thought there may be changes. The rooms are still the same, clean and very comfortable with a lovely little seating area outside each room. The walls are pretty thin - we could hear the couple next door - but they are still really lovely for a night's stay. We had dinner and breakfast, dinner felt pretty similar to last year's although it was noticeably quiet on a warm Friday night whereas last year it had been packed. As a Coeliac I stuck with a jacket potato as the girl serving in the evening was very friendly but seemed slightly confused so I didn't want to risk asking for something gf. Breakfast was lovely, the sausages were even gluten free and they had gluten free bread so I was able to fill up. Brekkie wasn't as big as last year's but that was ridiculously huge so this wasn't an issue! So, to the problems. We booked in advance and paid the deposit asked of £30 per room. My mum went to pay while I walked the dog before the drive. Upon going to pay on leaving, my mum mentioned the deposit twice but they had no record of this and seemed unsure, two staff looked but didnt seem to fully listen, so she paid the amount they requested. When she told me what she had paid it sounded a lot. I emailed the pub, via the email address I had previously had responses from (the contact email on the website) to ask for clarification on the price but received no reply. Unfortunately due to being away with limited signal I was unsble to phone. I received no reply so 4 days later I emailed again and still received no reply. I then emailed for a third time and finally received a reply. However this was confusing as they stated a total price and when I queried if this was the price before or after the deposit they asked how much deposit we had paid. Surely a deposit amount would be a set amount? And shouldn't there be a record of deposits paid?? Anyway after a few more emails I finally received confirmation that we had overpaid by £60 and they said they would call us on the Tuesday to arrange a refund. However, Tuesday came and went with no call or email, so at midday on the Wednesday I contacted them again to remind them of our need for a refund. They said they would call later that day and finally this was sorted. I think it is quite concerning that a business has no record of monies received and if I hadn't followed up (multiple times) then we would have been overcharged by £60! So all in all nice rooms, stunning village but if you stay make sure you triple check the finances!!

Laundry facilities are available and there is ample parking. Highly recommended. Will definitely return. Stopped for lunch and most tables in the bar and back room were taken which is usually a good sign. The fire was lit which gave a lovely ambiance. We hadn’t realised it had changed hands but we guessed quite quickly. It has lost its sophistication. The food was excellent value. The menu was simple but the food was good. Lots of mistakes with our order (wrong bread for sandwich, ice in drinks, chips instead of fries etc). However, we would call again.

We visited The Cholmeley Arms on a busy Friday night to celebrate a friends birthday. I haven't visited since it has been under the new ownership. I have to say, I was very impressed. We were seated straight away by a very lovely young waitress who got the balance between being friendly and professional spot on. The service was prompt and efficient throughout. We ordered an assortment of main courses and everyone said theirs were delicious. I ordered rump steak and I have to say it was the best rump steak I have ever had in a UK pub (yes, it was that good!) Desserts were also wonderful and the waitress bought one out with a birthday candle which really made my friends night. The only reason I have deducted a star (and this may be a little unfair) was because we were seated in the newer part of the pub (the extension) and it was just too brightly lit. The lights were so bright we actually put paper napkins over them. It may just be me but I feel the ambience when dining is very important and much prefer dimmer lighting. I would love to come back but would request a table in the original part of the pub for this very reason. Please address the lights. Overall though, the food cannot be faulted and I am still dreaming about that steak!

The Cholmeley arms used to be one of my favourite restaurants in the area. With a gorgeous interior, and friendly staff, it almost made it to the top spot of restaurants tried so far. However, around August 2023, it came under new ownership. It was apparent that the handover was difficult, as the poor staff were rushed off their feet (usually just the one person waiting the entire pub), and the food quality was somewhat downgraded. We have eaten here several times over the past year, and it doesn't seem to be consistent. Since being under new ownership, we have eaten here twice. The last time we went in November 2023, we were served bread buns (like the burger ones) but toasted. Being a lover of the free bread, this was a little disappointing to say the least. The pub itself is easy to get to, and there's always plenty of parking. With both a ramp and steps to access the main door, it's accessible for those with disabilities. Onto the food. The main difference I have noticed is the chips. The chips don't taste great, and are usually soggy. When ordering, you usually expect a crunchy fluffy chip (I do anyway!), and these were far from it. I ordered a mushroom and stilton sauce with chicken breast, which was Devine. This was probably one of the best cheesy mushroom sauces I have ever had. The chicken was soft and tender, with enochi style mushrooms being nicely cooked too, and the sauce was creamy. Everything was maxed out in flavour. Was honestly 10/10. I don't think this is on the menu anymore though, sadly. Whenever we go, there's always an assortment of specials on. Usually it's things like fish, or pork, but either way, it all sounds delicious. Having reviewed their latest menu, it all looks good. We have ordered things previously ranging from cheesy starters to battered prawns for our starters, and they've been incredible each time. I just hope that the quality is better since last visiting. On average, two starters, two mains, two pints, and occasionally a dessert, costs about £50-£70. I'd say this is average. The meal portions are great though, and we're usually never left hungry! The service when we have been has been average, but mostly because there's been one person serving the entire pub, which is not fair. I'd give The Cholmeley Arms a rating of 7 out of 10, purely based on the inconsistency. ABOUT US: Me and my friend, Chris, started Stages of Chris for fun on Facebook. We're now constantly getting recommendations to try out new places in the Lincolnshire area, and review them! I'm writing this as someone who is starting out reviewing food for fun, hoping it helps! Any tips would be appreciated :)

I haven’t been here for a number of years so when a group of friends suggested a visit I thought I would give it a go. That was my first mistake. Prior to arrival I looked at the menu on line. There were two options, the regular menu or Christmas Menu. Great, good selection I thought. Upon arrival our group perused the menu’s. When asked about the Christmas menu we were told that only half of us (four out of a party of eight) could have the Christmas meal. Well orders were placed, and we awaited the food. Starters arrived, my pate was ok, but as usual with a lot of restaurants they never provide enough butter for the bread/ toast etc. My wife had prawn cocktail which was served in a bowl three quarters full of plain shredded lettuce, topped with some prawns with about a table spoon of rose Marie dressing, which was uninviting, and served with a slice of buttered bread bent (yep, not cut) over in half. Something like a truck driver would do with a slice of bread when mopping up his gravy in a greasy spoon. The main dishes arrived. I had Christmas dinner, it was satisfactory, nothing more. The chips that others had were meant to be home made, they clearly were not, more like frozen out of a packet. When the main course plates were cleared, we awaited the arrival of the desert menu. The barman/ waiter carried on his duties behind the bar, without looking over to our table( we were the only group in the restaurant). After ten minutes we asked for deserts only to be told that was not possible as the chef had gone home. Coffe was not offered either. Within about two minutes of our request being declined our bill was on the table with a few after eight type mints thrown on top. Very disappointing and will not return, would not recommend.

On arrival we were immediately shown to our table in the dog-friendly bar area. We were offered drinks from the bar quickly and were brought a bottle of table water and glasses as well which was welcome. Knowing that the portions are generous, we only ordered main courses. One beef dinner, one three-riast dinner. The food came quickly and the portions were substantial. The meat was very tasty. The cauliflower cheese was delicious. The roast potatoes were perfect. The Yorkshire puddings were huge but light. The vegetables were perfectly done. In the end we could not finish all of the food and had no room for deserts (nor indeed for any more food the rest of the day!) We were offered a bowl of water for our dog and the staff brought him a slice of beef which was so kind and he loved it!. The staff were very friendly. Not pretentious. Local young people and they couldn't have been more friendly. We left a good tip for the service. We would highly recommend the Cholmley Arms and we would suggest you ignore any negative reviews below. They are far away from reality. We are looking forward to our next visit. The menu is varied and there are plenty of specials too. We have visited before and after the change of ownership and it is still as good as it was. Excellent.

We had two seperate overnight stays for bed, breakfast and evening meal. The food was excellent at all meals, the staff were very friendly & efficient, and the en-suite room (one of four in a barn conversion) was well-appointed if a little austere (why don't double rooms have two chairs if space allows - which it did here). The pub, its garden and environs are beautiful, and we will certainly stay again, given its proximity to the A1 and the quality of food and service at a sensible price.

After several amazing visits here to eat, we decided to stay. I can honestly say it’s one of the best nights sleep I’ve ever had. Dinner was perfectly cooked, and we couldn’t fault the service. Breakfast was perfect as ever! Beautifully clean and spacious rooms, lovely facilities, and the biggest bed I’ve ever slept on! The room was modern and peaceful, a lovely weekend break.

A return to the George after many family visits years ago. Unfortunately the service has declined. We were a table of 4 seated close to the bar. Many staff serving and pouring drinks but not one brought menus or looked in our direction for 20 minutes. I asked for menus but even this wasnt enough to warrant staff asking for our order or speaking to us to let us know they were busy. The George, once known for its impeccable service is no longer the George that I remember.

The King's Head is good at any time of year. The Christmas singalong is just plain stellar. There are always really unusual guest ales, and even beers brewed especially for the pub. Friendly staff complete the offering. Stamford is full of pubs. The King's Head is some thing special, small but perfectly formed.
