The Chippery in Wigan

As a coeliac I was having trouble getting gluten free food. Thank you for providing such good safe food, tasty and plenty if it. Very good value

went with 5 friends from work. we sat on two tables. Lady came over and said hang on ill get you a bigger table . nothing was too much trouble ... food was great . cant wait to go again

What a brilliant chippy. They offer all the usual foods that a chippy does but they also have a vegan menu and a gluten free menu. The vegan menu has some delicious options such as: vegan chicken nuggets, vegan battered sausage and chips,peas and vegan gravy. They even have vegan butter and plant milk. They did used to offer pies but I didn't see these as an option when I visited this time. I really recommend this place, especially to vegans and those trying to cut down on their consumption of meat and animal products. Such lovely, friendly and helpful staff too. We felt so welcomed and so looked after. It was a joy to visit here. Definitely worth the money and we will definitely be back and will let our friends and family know that they need to visit this brilliant chip shop.

We have been away this week and visited two famous chippies on the Fylde coast. Kays in Cleveleys has been voted the best in Lancashire twice in the last few years. The Cottage in Blackpool has been home to the stars. The irony is, the New Chippery has been the best out of the lot. Friendly service, reasonably priced and the best fish of the lot. It appears to be a revolving door with customers as its reputation seems to be spreading. Well done to the chef and owner. A top chippy.

Hi, We Been here on two occasions when we visit family in the area. I must say that it serves the best fish I have ever tasted.

All the five star reviews are spot on. It’s busy but the staff have time to provide fast excellent friendly service. The fact it’s full is a sign people keep coming back for more. Tables are spotless, and the prices very reasonable. Fish was lightly battered and large portion. Delicious. Chips crisp and no greasy residue. Mug of tea spot on. They’re doing everything right. Would not hesitate to revisit if I was in Wigan town centre again.

I were clempt so went in the Chippery and had chips curry cheese and onion pie Never touched the sides. Honestly best chippy meal going Staff dead friendly. I popped in here one Tuesday lunchtime. As I walked through the door one of the serving ladies asked if I was eating in and immediately found me a table, which was lovely. I ordered the fish, chips and peas, which was good. Chips and fish were cooked to perfection. I also liked the large helping of peas. Overall, I was impressed here and would highly recommend this place.

This is the first review I have ever left a review for anything! The food was simply amazing, and cooked to perfection! Me and my friends had a lovely time and cannot fault the food / service at all!! Which most definitely be visiting again! Thankyou so much!!!

We visited this chippy on Friday. The staff were wonderful, very accommodating, chatty and friendly. The food was very nice. My sons all thought they were the best chips they'd ever had. Living in the South, it was nice to come back to Wigan to a proper chippy. Would recommend and will definitely visit when we are next in Wigan.

Best chippy in Wigan, I come here every time i visit from Weymouth and it never disappoints. The food is great, very reasonably priced and the staff are always friendly. Love it.

As soon as you step foot inside the staff pounce on you asking if you have decided what you want !! Why don’t they let customers sit down just for a good 5 mins to view the menu ?? They bring your order and slam the plates down and leave no napkins to keep tidy , the staff clearly show a dislike to their customers and by the looks of their boat races they clearly don’t want to be working there !! Should of done better at school then luvvies !! Feel sorry for the owner who has to look at their miserable faces on a daily basis - WE WONT BE BACK !!

The fish, chips and mushy peas meal here is by far the finest we have ever eaten. We travel quite often to Wigan from Cheshire East and always eat there for our mid-day meal. The ladies who wait on and take your order are very friendly and very efficient. The New Chippery has a wide range available on its menu.

What’s not to like ! Quick service in the cafe from friendly staff , great grub and literally as cheap as chips ! Well worth a visit if you can get a seat ! Dave Mather

You sit down and get served so fast it is amazing , backed up by super cooking and great prices. I am not a local , but when I come to Wigan I always eat here. Service with a smile.

What can I say? If you are in Wigan town centre during the day and fancy fish and chips, give it a go. Also if you don't have a big appetite, the small fish, chips and pea's are really good value.

What a pleasant surprise to have vegan options available at the chippery. The food was hot and tasty and the staff are all so friendly and obliging, nothing was to much trouble for the young girl who waited on me today. I will definitely return ✌️

I have been to this chipshop a number of times even though it's about 10 miles away.The service is fast and friendly and in my opinion the fish chips and gravy are of a consistently high standard . Best I've had .

i’ve been coming here since i was little and there’s not one thing that’s happened to stop me from going. the food is amazing and i highly recommend it! also, if you’re worried about spending too much money then don’t be, the prices are cheap. the staff are lovely and the atmosphere is very good. if you’re ever in town and don’t know where to go for dinner, the new chippery is the best place to go!

Today my husband and myself ate here and were amazed at the variety of vegan/vegetarian options available. The chippery was spotless and the toilet facility too with bright lighting, hot water and soap and the chippery was lovely and warm. The Manager Andy, who is also vegan. along with his staff gave 100% servicetold us about the new vegan foods he is going to introduce how amazing is that. The meals we both had were served to our table and were piping hot. The chips were not greasy and the salad was so fresh and crisp. My husband enjoyed his battered vegan sausages, vegan gravy, mushy peas and chips and I enjoyed the vegan burger, chip barm with salad. We can not wait until our next visit to try out the other vegan/vegetarian options on their menu.There is CCTV within the chippery so if there were any unruly patrons it would be captured on it. Well done to Andy and all his staff for the warm welcome and cheery farewell.

It’s not often I have chips but today I had the urge. I bought sausage chips and gravy from The New Chippery. Staff nice a food very nice. If you get the urge for chips, this place is great

Had the vegan chicken nuggets which were super tasty, chips always fresh and hot as were the mushy peas. I crave this place when I'm out and about in Wigan now. Many options for vegans & veggies. Recommended to many people.

We have only recently discovered this fish and chips shop and have enjoyed a couple of lunches there. Anyome who likes fish, chips and peas will love this place. The food is so good - arrives on the table piping hot, perfectly cooked and very reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly, efficient and make you feel welcome. What more could you ask for?

So happy to see this chippy back open again after the fire several months ago. As popular as ever with very fresh food. Some great veggie and vegan options have been added to the menu too. Friendly service at very good prices. Looking forward to another lunch soon.

Very busy at noon on Weds but the service was excellent. We did not have to wait long for our fish,chips and mushy peas: in fact, it was the swiftest service we have ever experienced!

We live in Ireland now, originally from Wigan but always go to our fave chippy in the world when we come over. Great service, best fish and chips by far, staff are always friendly and you always have a chat with a lovely Wigan person while you're in there - makes you realise how much you miss home. Hope they're up and running for our visit next year. Was gutted when we heard about the fire.

We ordered and ate and were out in 35 minutes! The chips and fish were cooked fresh and the waitresses were efficient and friendly. Definitely a cheap eat and better than a value pub meal!

My wife and I go for dinner when visiting Wigan. The food is fantastic value for money and cooked to perfection..The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is good with lots of regulars.children are well catered for with sturdy high chairs ...well worth a visit..

The title is a little misleading because plaice is not on the menu but I could not resist the use of the term in the title. However, "the place" meaning the Chippy is certainly not to be missed if you are looking for quality fish and chip shops. I have reviewed a number of excellent fish and chip shops in a number of areas and this one stands alongside the best in the bunch. The fish is definitely fresh from Fleetwood. I worked on the docks at Fleetwood in its heyday and the fish you get from the New Chippy screams freshness as you as you cut through batter, which in itself is an example of perfection in the culinary arts. The accompaniments chips and peas etc are equally of high quality and all the pies and pastries are sourced from local suppliers including Greenhalghs. If ever you are in Wigan and fancy fish and chips or the associated dishes the New Chippy must be first choice every time.

Fantastic chippy with great prices. Does smaller meals too for those with smaller appetite. Best chippy I've ever been to. Fish and chips cooked to perfection not greasy at all. Anyone visiting Wigan it's worth a visit. Nice and friendly staff. If you're esting in then just find a table and they will come over to serve you.

We have an excellent lunch when we visit here.As pensioners we don't need lots so the smaller size fish,chips and peas is excellent for us.On a warm,possibly sunny day we like to sit outside on the bench seats that are situated right outside on Market St.We find all the staff extremely friendly and they go out of their way to please.

Went here while I was on dinner from work thought I would give it a go waited 10min for food to arrive to with they forgot my order and charged me 10p more than the meal cost when I challenged this. The staff said they was right and j was wrong until I got my Calculator out and proved them wrong. Still got wrong change won't be going back again

We first went in the new chippery early this year we enjoyedvit so much we make a point of going at least once a week now although we have to travel quite a distance from Clayton Ley Woods .everything is excellent .the staff are very friendly and serve you quickly food is always hot and freshly cooked !It is by far the best Fish and chip shop in Lancashire !!!

Gotta say the Chippery is by far the best chippy in Wigan. Andy gives a friendly greeting whenever you visit. The place is always clean, the food is constantly good. I've never had a bad portion of chips.

I visited The New Chippery today and enjoyed a lovely chippy dinner. I was seen to almost immediately by a friendly young waitress.When my meal arrived, the chips were piping hot and a lovely colour. Would definitely go again if I found myself in Wigan.

Visiting Wigan to get my car serviced. Wandered into town and found this place. Cheap and cheerful. Good fish and chips and friendly staff all at a very reasonable cost. Would recommend.

The Chippery has the best fish and chips ever, great customer service never had any problems but you have to get their abit early to get a table.

It's not cheap, it's not a restaurant high class service but it's effective and efficient in a very pact and busy caf that offers red hot food quick serving time at a good price with a smile. The staff have been the same for years so can't be bad. One critical point the worst coffee in Wigan.

This place was my favourite chippy most of my life and not having lived in the area since it reopened, I was very keen to return to see it had changed. It was not particilarly busy but all the 'serving' staff still managed to ignore me for about 15 minutes and serve random groups of people arriving long after me.There are a lot of chippies in Wigan and whilst I can't say if they are any better or any worse, unless you want to sit there like an idiot, getting hungry, I'd give this one a wide berth.

This a chippy/cafe in the centre of Wigan. Very delightful and cheap as chips. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. I was given a choice of regular or small portion of fish, chips & mushy peas with a mug of tea. I chose the small portion and was satisfied with a bill of £4.25. The seating was somewhat cramped but I will certainly be back again.

if youre looking for good service. dont come here. they have no idea how to treat their customers. whoever owns this place find some sensible intelligent people to work here. rather than low workers that laugh at you. definitely the WORST atmosphere ive been in ever.

my wife and i go to this chippy at least twice a week they do a small dinner which is always excellent the food is always freshley prepared .and the staff cant do enough for you .the place is always lovely and clean and the food is always delicious pricewise cant be beaten

Maybe a victim of it's own popularity at times, as the first attempt to go for lunch was thwarted as every table was taken. Did a little more shopping and then back to taste the reputation of the chips. The food service was chirpy and swift, the food was great and the pricing was a bargain, Fantastic atmosphere as all customers seemed to be more than content with their lunch, Super chippy.

I have been here many times and if I was to have a chippy dinner, this is where I would go in Wigan. Most of the staff are friendly (some could do with smiling more), they are always quick to serve and the food has always been lovely.

Central location with friendly staff. Gets busy at peak times as it's not as big as it used to be. Does smaller pensioner portions and food is always yummy. Some of the best fish and chips around!

just had small fish ,chips and curry sauce and i gotta say it was out ofn this world ! I thought the chipperys best days were gone after mr ron moved on but this plaice ( get the pun ) is here to stay . 10/10 and not a horse in sight

I always get Small Fish, Chips and Gravy for £3.25 and it is the best fish in the whole country! The chips are delicious and the staff are friendly and amazing. The owner who is welsh I think is always speaking to me about work asking me how I am. Excellent. 10/10

Nothing wrong with this place. It's a chippy but that's all I can say. It's a little pricey. Nothin really stands out.

I had been several years ago and remembered how good it was then. On making my first visit in some five or so years, I was happy to find that the chips remained in tip top condition, with service most speedy. The chips, mushy peas and gravy were faultless. As for the Steak Pudding, need I say more - packed to the gunwales with meat. On leaving, I was somewhat bowled over by another customer's growler [Meat Pie] and chips and wished I had the Meat Pie!Will I be returning? Oooh yes, and several times over given the chance! Excellent food, speedy service and friendliness in pleasant surroundings. The recent refurbishment has made my visit most joyous.

since the new owner took over the chippery it is very clean enviroment the staff are very welcoming and friend and very quick at there job, the food is out this world very fresh and would definetly recommend this cafe, try the fish if you go in best fish in town and very reasonably priced cant fault on anything

I went in this chip shop for lunch with my father last week and i have to say the staff there were the most friendly,helpful and happy people i have met in the service industry.My father suffers from Parkinsons and is clumsy to say the least but one of the staff I think her name is Jane could not do enough to help us and actually made Tom (dad) laugh, its been a long time since that happened. Well done to the People that run this place, next i'm in i'm going to leave a bigger tip......

Visited there some time ago. Great value and very good cafe type food. The atmosphere here is very relaxed and you can be yourself read a paper and never feel anyone is watching you.

we often take my disabled mum to wigan and she always goes he for her lunch ,spotless clean and lovely staff and the owner very friendly and helpful .dont know her name but the lady with the red her is great when we go inhelping to get mum to a table with wheelchair.food is exellent ,chips are lovely and not greasy and a bounus is they do jacket potatoes if you want a change would reccomend it to all

went in a couple of weeks ago. had steak pudding and chips and very good food. at a great price of £3-80.one thing i like about north west chippys is most sell steak puddings and this was very good..handy for bus station only 2 mins walk and in middle of wigan town centre.

You can not go past Market Street in Wigan Town Centre with out going in to the "Chippery" the staff are very welcoming and are happy to see you. The fish and chips are to die for... the fish just breaks away onces your fork goes in ,the chips are nice and chuncky and the peas are really mushy full of flavour . In the CHIPPERY it is very clean and fresh looking and you can tell the staff and manamgement take pride in their shop. Will recommend this chip shop as it is a must see to any one who has not been there they are really missing out!!

Whenever you visit Wigan, let me warn you, walk past the recently refurbished "Chippery" and you'll find it difficult to resist the temptation to enter for fish, chips and mushy peas. The aroma is fantastic, you can watch them cooking their delicious chips and very generous sized fried fish portions through the window.Some of the friendliest serving staff in the town - always with a serving with a smile and usually a cheeky quip. Eat in or take away. Whenever you see a student from the nearby college or a casual shopper enjoying their fish and chips, a chip 'barmy', or a cone of chips - bet your life they're from the Chippery.So be warned, if you're watching your waistline - don't walk past the Chippery............
