I liked the food! The spring rolls were yummy and the chicken was crispy and good :) (I'm posting an updated menu, as the one here is already 5years old)

I'll start by saying the customer service is faultless, superb. The food is atrocious, every dish is bulked out with loads of onions. It's very clear they buy bags of salt and pepper chicken from like Iceland, it's certainly not fresh made, so nasty, dry and tasteless. It's the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The other Chinese Lin Vo was great

I’m 45 years old, I start with that to give some sense of experience when saying that this is the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. The ribs were liked roadkill smashed with a hammer and dipped in wallpaper paste. Every dish is a bland, gloopy, depressing mess. I honestly would have been more content with a pot noodle. It baffles me that you are still in business. Please stop for the good of humanity.

Human hairs in my takeaway - disgusting. I telephoned and was asked to return the dish in order to get a credit. I do not need £7 that badly that I waste my fuel and time to drive back. Hygiene - extremely poor. Customer care - Non existent. WILL NEVER EVER USE AGAIN

I ordered crispy beef strip in Szechuan sauce, fried rice and prawn toast, and ended up with some unholy abomination of whatever the heck I got , I just can not figure out for the life of me how they managed to get the Szechuan sauce to be so devoid of flavour, but also mange to taste awful. The rice was just bad, it smelled burnt and was so unseasoned beyond belief, the prawn toast was only thing I could stomach to eat, saying that even that was so lacking in taste, I’m just glad I don’t live in duns so I don’t have to suffer this crime against humanity that is the food they serve in this establishment, I was going to give it my mums dog but I don’t won’t to be charged with animal cruelty.

I really can't understand where all of the negative reviews are coming from for this Chinese? I have eaten at this Chinese around three times and have always had lovely cooked Chinese meals. The only downside is the length of time it takes for your order to be made. With one hour not been unusual for a wait. I suppose the weight demonstrates that they are cooking things from fresh? Yes there is better Chinese but there is a lot worse too. Give it a go I'm sure you will agree that is perfectly acceptable.

Soggy prawn crackers, watery soup, no crab in the crabmeat and sweetcorn soup, which was a muddy colour. The salt, chilli ribs were soooo dry, with no onion, peppers, just gooey, flakes of garlic from a jar (not fresh). One of our main courses was missing (thank God) when we got home 15 miles away. EVERYTHING was very, very sweet including the hot and sour soup, which had really balsa woody, dry pork in it. Worst Chinese we have had for many, many years. We will not be back, ever! Food ended up in the bin, not fit for human consumption, or the dog. Don’t get stung, go elsewhere. Young lad taking the order wouldn’t even let me use the toilet in the restaurant. I had to go to the pub toilet next door. Slop!

Got home to find that the order was completely wrong. Several dishes missing and others just incorrect. Phoned to complain and request refund and asked to drive 5 miles back to return their dog food. To top it off overcharged at the till. Avoid this dump at all costs.

So sad that the only chinese takeaway in Duns just doesn't care about their food. About 50 minutes ago we collected our takeaway. Spring rolls were soggy (but tasty!!), aromatic duck arrived without spring onions & cucumber - duck was dry with a huge bone in it and rock hard, sauce was the same as my partners lemon chicken and the crispy shredded beef. Lemon chicken was rock solid also, like everything had been cooked and left under a hot lamp. Chilli beef basically chilli batter with a sweet sauce. Rice was black in colour. Such a shame as this would be our local, but can't honestly say i'd recommend or use again 😔

I've never written a negative review before because I used to work in the hospitality industry and I understand the pressures, plus even if it is bad I don't usually like to be rude. Therefore, I usually just give places the benefit of the doubt and don't make a fuss. However, this really needs to be said. So, we ordered: - Crispy shredded chilli beef - Lemon chicken - Aromatic duck - Spring rolls - Fried rice So as I said before, being a chef I can tell you with 100% certainty that all of the food had been cooked hours before and left in a hot cupboard (uncovered) then given a quick reheat. The chicken had been overcooked and left for at least 4/5 hours giving it the consistency of very hard cardboard. The duck was the same, clearly cooked hours and hours before and poorly kept, again like eating shredded cardboard. I understand fully that places have to pre cook food especially when busy, but this was a very quiet Wednesday night and the only possible reason for how horrendous this was, is that the chef has been severely lazy. He/she has cooked everything when they arrived and left it all to dry out without even an attempt to revitalise it. It was so bad that it may have even been cooked the day before. Honestly the WORST food I have EVER eaten to the point I feel physically sick while writing this. As for the sauces, syrup. That's it. Just syrup. Not even the right flavours. As I said, I would never normally write a review, but this was just blatantly shocking. There is absolutely no way that chef can think that is acceptable!! I shouldn't even say chef actually because no chef made that food.

Ordered up our food but had a bit of a wait before it would be ready. Decided to go for a walk as it was going to be about 25 / 30 minutes for a takeaway. They gave us a phone call when it was ready and we collected it. Food was pretty good- exactly as described- nothing extra. Sweet and sour chicken was just chicken in a s/s sauce 🤷♂️

My friend placed a order for Salt & Pepper chicken no vegetables and a normal salt & pepper, 2 portions of egg friend rice, sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style and soft noodles. My friend asked the girl on the phone (she’s known as Grace B) if it was okay to read her order out loud and she rudely replied “yeah I was about to do that”. She read aloud all the food that has been said above. her boyfriend went to collect it and paid for it. He mentioned that she was very rude and unapproachable when he was there. He drove the 5 miles back and realised he was missing the portion of salt and pepper chicken with veg. So he called back and said to this Grace what was missing as she turned round and went very rudely “no there was only one portion of salt and pepper chicken I read the order out” witnessed by me and my friend who made the phone call she was lying. Luckily we could share it out but she suggested to him in a unkind manner to buy another one and come the 10 miles there and back but he didn’t want to use his petrol. This girl is very rude the people who cooked it very well it’s such a shame there reputation has been ruined by some little rude and horrible teenager. Get rid of her! You ruined our meal

On a cold and rainy night we ventured out for some Chinese food and weren't disappointed. We arrived with low expectations, having had some terrible Chinese food in the past. However the menu here was extensive- although we would have like to see crispy seaweed on it - and very reasonably priced, with 30% off for takeaway orders. Service was very friendly and it took just 15 minutes for our food to be ready! We ordered sweet and sour chicken, prawn toasts, crispy chilli beef, egg fried rice and some crispy noodle and at £17 We were very impressed by the amount of food. Some free prawn crackers would have been nice. The food was all delicious and piping hot, with crispy prawn toasts and delicious chilli beef. We'll definitely be back - this is a gem of a place!

Truly one of the worse Chinese meals I've ever been served, sat in the restaurant with my family, freezing cold, young lad serving, girl behind counter didn't lift her face out of her mobile phone, looking for a vegetarian meal for myself, there were 8 on the menu though after asking for 3 separate meals , was told one after the other they did not have any that I asked for, therefore I had to suggest stir fried vegetables, as the vegetarian option...! and a side of what was on the menu as crispy noodles, I asked if they were egg free to a blank look , 'I'll need to ask'... the other 2 dishes my family asked for where sweet and sour chicken and chicken curry, as we sat freezing eventually out 'Food'........! was served, my dish was mostly mushrooms in a spit of soy sauce, bland, did find some traces of baby sweet corn and onion but mostly mushrooms... the crispy noodles were obviously egg noodles and looked like they were served straight from the packet without being cooked with... what was obviously meat gravy ....... disgusting would be more than fair assessment of this dish, couldn't look at it never mind attempt to eat it.... as we had a long journey I nibbled away at the stir fry, my wife's chicken curry smelled rancid and was GREEN,, she had one bite and spat it out, my son ate the sweet and sour chicken which he and my wife ate as it was the only edible thing served but in all they said it was more out of hunger than taste, £32 .... in total, rip off,,,disgusting we went next door to the White Swan where we were staying and got some dry roasted pea nuts to mask the taste, it is obvious there is no pride or care at all in this food, this one was supposed to be the best of the 2 Chinese in Duns, cant imagine the food that would be served in the other as in all this really was the worse food I've ever been served, poor poor service, overpriced and both my lad and wife had sore stomachs later on... avoid..

I have never in my life been to a place with such appalling service. I ordered my meal at 6:15, a simple order of mixed veg in black bean sauce and boiled rice, I did expect a wait as they did seem to be busy, lots of phone orders, after half an hour I enquired about my dishes, they won't be much longer but we are busy I was told, fair enough I thought. At this point 4 other people came in one by one and ordered. Over the next 15 minutes lots of people came to pick up orders but I thought I e got to be soon. At the 45 minute mark I enquired again and got told again I'd be soon, by this point was getting impatient, it's was only stir fried veg for goodness sake! At the 60 minute mark the server came out with several bags and one by one gave them to all the people who had came in half an hour AFTER me and place their orders! I was gin smacked! I asked the server if I had been forgotten, "oh no" she said " we are just busy" , stupid Ooo t I lost it and asked how can 4 people who ordered so long after me be served first? I also asked for a refund. So an hour and ten minutes after placing order I walked out with my full refund and an empty tummy, I will be we e we go here again!

We visited Duns for a 50th birthday party and went to the China Palace for our evening meal before the party in a local pub. The menu had plenty of choice and I picked the Chicken Curry from it. The restaurant has 2 dining areas with one as soon as you enter just past the carry out counter and the other through to the rear that has a nice garden atmosphere . The waitress service was very quick / efficient and our order was placed right away . The food when it arrived was nice and hot with good size portions that we thoroughly enjoyed . We dropped in for a bite to eat in the evening dining in the restaurant. Initially the service was good and everything looked fine. Unfortunately things started to go a bit down hill, there was little atmosphere in the restaurant (no music etc) and at times there was either complete silence or a flurry of people coming in for take away orders, perhaps if we were seated somewhere more privately this wouldn't have been so bad, but it felt like everyone could hear our conversation which was uncomfortable. The menu was slightly confusing and we ended up ordering a feast for 500 people (well for 2 really but 6 courses! We only wanted a basic meal!) and so we had to change the order and cause a bit of fuss.Do not order the wine.... honestly! All in all the food was lovely and service was fine. We have used this restaurant a good few times, for carry out only, and to be honest, we have not been disappointed with the quality of the food or cooking. There's very few good carry out restaurants in our area so it's good to know you can at least depend on one for good cooking and The China Palace fits the bill. However, the problem with this restaurant, for us, is that it very often gets your order wrong and you only discover this when your back home after collecting, which is a big disappointment!! SO, the moral of the story is to check your order before leaving the restaurant so that you are not disappointed when home, and to get the order you have placed read back to you to be sure they have taken It down correctly, and, most importantly, your NOT hungry AND angry!!!! There is also a 30% discount for take away food - fab. . Good salt and pepper prawns - always. Great lemon chicken with a delicious sauce and a plentiful portion. Delicious special fried rice and Singapore noodles too. Just check your order before leaving to be sure nothing's missing.
