China Red in Scottish Borders

We visited China red whilst staying near by for a wee break in the Oct week and my god it didn't disappoint. Staff were very friendly, waiting time was only around 10 minutes and the food was not only well priced but delicious too! We all loved our food! Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again if we're ever back in the area!

In Scotland on holiday and fancied a Chinese. Absolutely delicious. The chow mein dishes were especially tasty. Generous portions and good prices.

Visiting Kelso we wanted a take-away. We had the set meal for two, £20.90. It was excellent, and so much food. There was enough for the next day! We have had ribs from other takeaways which have been tough and tasteless. These were tender and good. Shame we don't live locally.

Very strange that the 'most recent' reviews are from October 2023! We have tried this takeaway several times and now just will never use again. The dishes we would prefer to get we knew were not good so we tried something else in the hope we might find it good, nope! Not only did the hot and sour soup taste off, the satay was the worst I have ever had! Watery, no coconut taste whatsoever, and giant rounds of carrot in it! Carrot! Again! What is up with this place? We dont order the curry because it has giant chunks of carrot in it, who puts carrot in acurry let alone a satay! My partner had beef with black bean sauce, again just watery. Chilli Chips have no chilli flavour and are reheated and soggy yet again. Its game over after several attempts to let tbis place redeem itself but we just cant justify ever going again. Buying a cookbook and a new wok! Save your money folks, truly! I dont think anyone at China Red bothers to read these reviews either or pass them on to the kitchen as nothing has changed in 18 months. Poor, very, very poor.

Tried to get through to China red and they never pick up the phone and this has happened on a few occasions definitely not taking my business there again

We had a takeaway from here last night while visiting friends in kelso. I think the cook has either changed or the food supplier has changed. This has to be one of the worst Chinese takeaways we have ever had. We will never go here again.

This is Chinese food at its absolute worst! Leather beef in a curry, the chicken in the sweet and sour could line a pair of shoes, their overpriced rice could oil the underside of a truck and their noodles were drier than a camels tongue in the Sahara. God forgive me for being lazy and not making our usual pilgrimage to Fei Wong in Galashiels. Overpriced rubbish that ended up in the bin!!!

Lovely food. Served by a lovely lady. Very good portion size not salty and reasonable prices. Plus very clean inside..

We rang through a large order for nine people for delivery to Stitchil. Excellent service over the phone, really helpful and friendly lady who took our order. 45 minutes was the estimate for delivery and it arrived on time. Important bit is the food! This was lovely, the only negative was that we couldn't finish it all as very generous portions🙂

Food was amazing, full of flavour and plenty of it. Service was amazing. Young girl on the phone was super helpful and recommended me a lovely dish which was perfect for my dinner. I cannot express my happiness that I visited this little shop on my way to the highlands.

I didnt know what to order so asked for there most popular dishes....I got garlic, chilli chicken and rice. Sadly very very little flavour and I threw half in the bin. Prawn crackers not great. However, was served by a nice helpful lady. Pity.

Got chicken maryland on Saturday night unedible dry chicken hard onion rings and mushrooms. Banana fritter was awful never had such an awful takeaway

Usually get my takeaway from China Red. Normally really good. But lacked flavour this time and was a bit disappointed. Not usual standard.

Brilliant Chinese and first time I've ever stopped in Kelso for something to eat.

Pleasant staff and good food. They deliver further than most which is nice in these troubled times.

Ordered quite a lot, half of the order for eg barbecue ribs tasted very old, dry' and mealy.. very disappointed. No fresh food whatsoever.

Used to go to kwans it was fresh it went down hill so tryed china red it was lovely will be bk

Phoned to order a delivery, told they were busy and could be 1 hour, phoned again after 1 hr 20 minutes and was then told it could be 40minutes to 1 hr for delivery at which time i cancelled order, utterly attrocious service, worst in the borders will NEVER use them again.

Ordered some spring rolls, it was nice. Good Service.

Had a delivery and there incompetent driver decided it was ok to turn a cross my garden and cause damage and the driver and owner are refusing to pay to get the damage repaired.

Awful... cant follow simple instructions asked for the European menu beef dish with no sauce! Came covered in sauce my wife asked about it and there response was "oh only a little sauce you can scrape it off" will never be back!!!

Haven't had Chinese food for ages so finally ordered today. Live out aways from Kelso so asked for a delivery. When I ordered, I was told a half hour to three quarters which I thought was right. Delivery man arrived, no problem. The food was hot, the price was right , the food was delicious. And mainly , the delivery man was courteous , efficient and very pleasant. A lovely front man for this business. Will be ordering again. Thank you !!

I could easily eat Chinese food every night given the chance , it is my favourite food and I never throw any away , until I went here.I had originally planned to go to the other Chinese over the road but it was shut but was pleased to see that this place was open.maybe I was just unlucky with my choice of salt and chilli shredded beef with salt and pepper chips as there are plenty of decent reviews on here , but the food was so dry and tasteless it was almost inedible, thank God this was only ever going to be a one off visit as it was so bad to put you off Chinese food for life.

We had a takeaway from here last night... pancake roll, lemon chicken and special chop suey.The pancake roll was disgusting and completely inedible. It was soggy, full of oil and uncooked inside and went straight into the bin.The lemon chicken was also inedible as it was so tough that it was impossible to even try to chew it. It had obviously been overdone when it was reheated in their microwave.The chop suey wasn’t up to much either and was also binned.A complete wast of money. We will not be back. Unfortunately Kwan’s is even worse.

I like the old lady that answers the phones. She always chats to me, I think she must be lonely. I eat here every Friday and she always includes extra pineapple in my dish for me. Even if the dish itself does not contain pineapple.

Ordered duck in plum sauce, checked it was gluten free and no pineapple. Collected order it was full of pineapple. Phone up, explained this was full of pineapple, offered a replacement but would have to go and get it or could be delivered after an hour. Second one arrived with loads of pineapple. Received a refund. Will not return.

Had a takeaway whlst staying nearby, and was very impressed. The fronatge looks very clean, and the service is quick and efficient. The food is very good, with generous portion sizes.

Plenty of quantity, but the chicken seemed precooked and reheated. It was tough to eat. Friendly service though.

First Class food endorsed as a visitor to Kelso by local people who recommended the China Red. Would definitely go back and would suggest if you are a visitor go and enjoy their food.

There are 2 Chinese takeaways in Kelso and whilst both are said to be good, a couple of negative trip advisor reviews for the other one found us using this one instead. The food was delicious and reasonably priced and I'd definitely go back. The spicy spare ribs were a real hit !

This take away restaurant is worth a visit if you want carry out food. Reasonably priced, clean and friendly surroundings and attentive staff. Phone an order and collect, what more can I say if this is what you want

Was good for a month. just had lemmon chicken the chicken was that tough or re heated from the night before had more chance of eating my leather couch and feeling full..

had two meals from this newish restaurant (well we only visit once a year) in Kelso. Very good quality - price not too expensive.

Fantastic service. Pre-ordered for a group of 13. Food was ready on time and split into individual meals for our convenience. Very helpful staff and communication was excellent leading up to collection. Food tasted great too.

Visited tonight got a special chop suey, the dish wasn't even half full1 prawn hardly any bean sprouts!!

Ordered a lemon chicken and duck in plum sauce, order arrived and wrong sauce was on each dish. Phoned down guy came to change one of the dishes after being told both were wrong. Then tasted both of them and said we were wrong and that the plum sauce is made with pineapple in it and the lemon has lemon in it. Open the dishes up and no lemon slices in the so called "lemon" chicken. Also since when is lemon chicken sauce orange in colour and plum sauce is yellow?
