Rather than spending £40 you would be better buying a pot noodle miles better and I’m not joking , I don’t know how they exist

I'll keep coming back to this restaurant when I visit the area every time. The service is excellent. Very very quick service and the food is very nice. I recommend this place and I can't believe that anyone would give it a negative feedback on tripadvisor. Please go and try. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Acabo de terminar nuestra comida tardó 45 minutos de principio a fin. El restaurante estaba vacío cuando llegamos y deberíamos habernos dado la vuelta y salido enseguida. El camarero no tenía habilidades de servicio al cliente nunca. Mi esposo visitó los baños y dijo que eran absolutamente asquerosos. Cuando regresó, no pudo terminar su comida y, posteriormente, yo tampoco. Hablé con el camarero sobre esto, pero no respondió como si pudiera entenderlo. No lo recomendaría

Visited with my wife, we ordered from the specials menu. Started with hot and sour soup which was passable then duck and pancakes which were ok. Our main courses left a lot to be desired. The rice was cold, the sweet and sour pork could have been a packet of pork scratchings tipped into a very bland sauce and the szechuan chicken was also tasteless. Don't think we'll be back there anytime soon.

We've used The China Boat 2 or 3 times (for takeaways) over the last 3 or 4 years and it has been decent, but having been again last Saturday, it's not very good now. Again we got a takeaway but I wouldn't want to eat in - the restaurant is very dreary and has no atmosphere at all. The staff have ZERO customer service skills, and struggle to understand English, making communicating quite difficult. Their wifi was down apparently meaning we couldn't pay by card, only cash, and we discovered they had missed something off our order (though not our bill) once we arrived back at our lodge with the food. The food itself was pretty bland and tasteless this time, and generally seemed poor quality. The restaurant appeared fairly busy with Chinese tourists, but we won't be using The China Boat on our future visits to Bowness.

We have been to this restaurant on several previous visits to the lake district. Unfortunately it has gone down hill. The food was still excellent and the staff friendly and polite but the toilets were absolutely disgusting and in urgent need of refurbishment

Went for meal as always liked takeaway food while on holiday here. But read in reviews after visit its been taken over and that explains a lot...it's not good. Chicken was tough and lack of sauce which was pretty tasteless. Decor and furniture shabby. Intermittent annoying noise like someone drilling thro wall next door, very strange! We won't be back.

The worst food and drinks ever. We called up to book for 5 and walked in to an empty place other than 1 table of 2. We were taken to the next room which was dark, damp and had red plastic table cloths on. Dirty curtains and furniture. We sat down and flies were attracted to our table. Why the hell didn't we walk out ?? Had to ask for the early bird menu and that didn't seem to go down well . Chicken and sweet corn soup x 5 , I picked up the soya sauce bottle added a lot as did my family and it seemed to spill out all over the table. The waitress came over and said that's vinegar , they had filled a soya sauce bottle up with vinegar , yes really. No swap of soup . Spring rolls , full of fat seemed to be shop bought and heated up . Disgusting , why didn't we stop then . Chicken fired rice , my elederly dad looked at it and it was insipid white rice , runny curry sauce on the side , beef in black bean sauce horrible taste , and horrible white rice on the side. Chicken chow main looked and tasted horrible . As my parents were treating us I didn't want to say anything but why didn't I. Drinks Flat coke , all the big bottles in a fridge or under a table , and charged three pound fifty pence for it, asked for water and got given a warm small bottle of water and changed one pound fifty pence . Think we were all in shock. I felt physically sick as I was eating and just wanted to get out of the run down dirty place. On the walk back we all said what we thought and were in shock that we had just eaten and paid for the worst meal ever. Do not go , and owners get this sorted. Close down and clean it up, get chefs in and start again or not as the case may be. I still feel sick today and that's why I have written this review which such strong words.

Well, what can I say? We've been going to this restaurant for many years and we have never had a bad meal... Until now. The duck was luke warm, the sweet and sour looked liked it came out of a packet and the chicken chow main, not only smelt bad, but tasted just as bad. As I said, it's a shame as we have, up till now never had a bad meal. The new owners need to read the latest reviews and take note.

We gave this place a try with the new owners having happily used the China Boat over a number of years. A reservation was made for 7.30pm . We entered expecting it to be busy and we were the only two customers apart from two happy drunks ordering a takeaway. I have not in over 30 years known a Restaurant in Bowness so empty on a Saturday night! And after looking round I now know why. The place used to be very neat & tidy, now it’s shabby, dirty windows and an overall feeling of lack of care. The food is very mediocre and was served lukewarm, unbelievable considering we were the only two customers in the place. In the hour we were in there I observed around 30 perusing the menu in the window, and none of them seemed tempted and wondered off elsewhere. When we left at 8.30pm only 3 more people sat down for a meal.After we left we went for a walk around Bowness and almost every restaurant we passed was almost full, which is normal for Saturday night in the Lakes.

Ok but nothing to write home about. Had better but also had worse. On a plus side it's close to a few bars.

Poor food. Poor service. Small portions that were neither tasty nor smelt good. Food actually had a funny taste to it. No atmosphere inside, restaurant appeared less than clean and damp in places. Will not go again and are frequent visitors to the lakes.

Now renamed You and Me, and under new management. We entered at around 19.00 on a Tuesday evening, and apart from a group of 6 Chinese diners we had the place to ourselves. Our order was placed with a request that one starter and the mains be delivered at the same time - we got the starter and the main, followed five minutes later by the vegetables. Food was adequate, but not special in any way. The disappointing aspect was that when we came to pay the bill (around £20 for a starter and a main and vegetables and 2 soft drinks) the waitress said "Cash only" after I presented my credit card - it would make sense to tell people that in advance, i.e. on entry, as there is a cashpoint across the road. Not impressed.

Absolutely shocking takeaway. We are historical regulars for both dine in and takeaways which had always been top notch. Armed with the knowledge that Helen the owner had moved on we nonetheless ventured forth with a take out meal assuming that the new owner would be on similar par. Unfortunately 80% of the rather unappealing contents of the containers were rapidly deemed to be bin fodder, and frankly, the remaining 20% was only consumed out of convenience when faced with the option of a return trip into town.

We had a lovely quiet meal, just the four of us, upstairs on a wet Sunday evening. The staff are very attentive and we love this place. We had a nice meal and will return because we really like this place.

Food not bad, nor was the price! Food was quite nice, sweet and sour was quite battery as was king pinot much meat mostly batter, chow mein was delicious, beef curry was lovely!

My food was lovely and the portion size was huge! Staff friendly and attentive too. However, the toilet in the basement was disappointing. The one toilet roll in the cubicle was about to run out and the towel dispenser by the basin was empty (although spare roll of towels on a table near the door). Lock on the door wasn't good either. Go to the loo before you and you'll be fine!

Visited Saturday evening about 5.30pm. We usually go to one of the other Chinese restaurants when we visit Bowness and order from the Happy Hour menu, but as our usual restaurant did not do Happy Hour on Saturdays we decided to try the China Boat which had a menu displayed in the window advertising a Happy Hour menu for £10 per person.

4 of us ate here and I cannot fault this place. The staff were friendly and attentive and when the food arrived the portions were huge so we had to take a doggy bag home with us as we couldn't eat it all. The soft drinks were really cheap which is great when you have young thirsty children. In all a great experience and we will definitely be back.

We arrived at approx 7:30pm on the Friday night and to our surprise no one else was in the restaurant. We sat down and ordered drinks and food, the whole building was cold with no apparent heating! The food was good though and we all enjoyed it. I can only assume the lack of heating is keeping customers away as the food is good.

Food Was Lovely, Big Portions, Cannot fault at all. However Service was not so great, Was quite abrupt, and was whoever served us was quite rude. Maybe was a busy day? but wasn't busy at the time.

This is a small and quaint restaurant of some 5 or 6 tables so for couples and small party idea. The service was quick enough and courteous. The hot and sour soup was spot on and full of ingredients. The Thai chicken was spicy enough and of a good portion. I felt overall it was good but just missing something which would have pushed it to a four star. It’s worth a visit cause nothing bad to say.

6 of us booked a table 2 days in advance, it was a nice place , very friendly staff.They had vegetarian dishes and a "buffet" style menu as well as a la carte.The food was served quickly and the portion size was good.Very nice tasty food, will go again happily.

We grabbed takeout so can't comment on the in house experience.

Enjoyed a very nice meal in this restaurant had been here many times with the previous owner it's changed hands but still just as enjoyable friendly manager & good food tucked away behind the church

La comida era buena y el restaurante parecía limpia, aunque un poco anticuado. Se sirvió comida muy rápidamente. Una pena que el servicio no vienen con una sonrisa de bienvenida, pero muy atento todo el mismo. Tuvimos una gran variedad de platos y todos estaban muy sabrosos.

Went here on Sunday night for a nice Chinese meal. The food was amazing and the staff are so friendly. Food was quick, fresh, and so delicious. Thanks for our great meal.

Good value for the area. Only disappointed with sweet and sour chicken because only 1cm of sweet and sour sauce supplied which was inadequate.

Went here last minute. Was almost closing time so we could not have a starter not that it mattered as it was late. Food was really nice I have a lot of Chinese food and this is one of the nicest curries I have tasted. I was very happy with this place defo worth a visit

We were on our way somewhere else, but it started to snow (yes in April) so we took shelter in the New China Boat. For starters we had Shrimp toast and Chicken skewers satay both excellent, the satay sauce was very good, not the sticky peanut stuff you tend to get served. Mains were Crispy beef and chicken sweet and sour, again really good. Service was fast and efficient. Portions generous so we were full after that. Only downside is the bottled beer is 330ml would have preferred 500ml, however the prices are really good, £38 for two with drinks. I've been told this is the best Chinese in Bowness and I have to agree!

Three of us went in for evening meal, nice atmosphere, smiling friendly staff and the service was great. All had different orders of food off a varied menu and we all enjoyed it very much. The staff were kept busy on this evening and people were coming in for carry outs. Been a few times and always enjoy our visits.

Warm tasty crab sweet corn soup followed by very flavoursome Thai curry which was served very promptly. Staff were courteous and helpful

Came to the China boat as we noticed the offers which were either a 3 course meal for £10 or a 3 course meal for £13.50 which had a little more choice so we went in and the woman behind the counter who greeted us was very offhand and arrogant.The chicken and sweet corn soup was lovely the spring rolls and the other starters were ok quite plain but fine, the main courses were the problem, I had beef in black bean sauce which didn't taste like black bean sauce at all like I have had from many other chineses, my partner had king prawn chow mein and that was so bland and plain, I think I saw the chef bringing up the food who looked English so maybe that's why the food was very plain and bland.The food was served extremely fast as soon as we put our fork down the next course was served which isn't a problem but I'm not sure how it can be cooked that fast.Whilst in the restraunt the atmosphere was very strange not like a normal restraunt, huge groups of Chinese people were flocking in and being catered for we were the only English people in, the owner was rude especially to the staff and when another couple told the staff that the food didn't taste like they had had before the chef started talking Chinese and didn't seem very happy.The woman who greeted us was very offhand and arrogant but she did seem to get slightly better throughout the meal.I would not return here and defiantly would go somewhere else next time, I don't see how this business will be successful between the staff and the food.Save your money and go somewhere else.

Ordered Szechuan mixed meat, salt and pepper crispy beef, salt and pepper king prawns and egg fried rice. Got sweet and sour mixed meat, and beef in sweet chilli sauce.they tasted OK at best, but disappointed as not what I had wanted. Salt and pepper king prawns were OK, though the seasoning seemed more Mediterranean than Chinese. Egg fried rice was boiled rice with scrambled egg in it. the staff weren't interested, seemed like I was being an inconvenience to them! Save your money, or go somewhere else.go to the golden mountain or magic wok in Windermere instead.

Polite helpful staff...good menu choice...food was obviously freshly prepared..was crispy when it was supposed to be..soft and juicy when it was supposed to be..and piping hot..tables were well spaced so you weren't bothered by neighbouring conversations..staff kept their distance but kept an eye on you so were easy to call ..under £45 ...

We went tonight in, and it was very busy with a good atmosphere. The food was very good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The prices are pretty reasonable too. Well worth a visit!If you love Indian food then this place is not to be missed! The choice of dishes on the menu is very extensive, with great specials. Very disappointed with the food. My Husband & myself was really looking forward to eating here to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The food was so bland everything tasted the same. We ordered Special chowmein, Beef in oyster sauce & Special foo young. There was no difference in the flavour as there was no flavour & the beef was very chewy & the pork was no better. I've tasted better flavoursome food from the freezer section in a supermarket!

Tried to go in tonight,, but doorway was blocked with friends or relations of the ownersCouldn't understand what was been said, another couple were leaving too for the same reason ! Far too much choice here to be bothered waiting to get in a nearly empty restaurant, they obviously don't need the custom so it's there loss as we won't go back again.We only went this time to give them a second chance, as last year the food was cold !!!

Good well priced food. We used it for the takeaway and it was eaten with gusto by the whole party. Good size portions. Highly recommended.

We had the £10 happy hour menu. The food was very good and plenty of it. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The restaurant was very clean and busy.

Happy Hour" and slightly lower than the normal £ 10AS Menu. I chose the happy hour. First, of course, shrimp and chicken and sweet corn soup. The second course of 3 chicken satay skewers and spring rolls with 3 entrees, chicken noodle and ancient chicken. Everything is good and served between courses "Continue" or "waiting period" option. The staff was very attentive and friendly, the restaurant is completely clean. We strongly recommend and around Windermere Bowness will definitely come back,

Seriously this is the worst Chinese food I have ever tried. Being said I'm Chinese, you might think I have high standard for Chinese food but not really. I do have high torrence to food, especially when I'm traveling. I know it's a very tourist English Lake District and maybe most time their customers are western people. But you have a separate Chinese menu and English menu, so I guess the Chinese menu food are suppose to cook for Chinese? Totally not eatable. Me and my husband didn't have a proper lunch and really hungry when we hit the restaurant. Still couldn't finish a single dish!! This was never ever happened before in our entire life! I'm not sure about the English menu. But if you are Chinese or you expect real authentic Chinese food, please do yourself a favor and keep this place away! P.S. When we asked the waitress which dishes are nice here she said she just came London, and the food here are very different to London, so she doesn't know. Obviously she just doesn't want to say it's so bad!!!

The China Boat was Right up the street from Aunty Val's. It was covered over with scaffolding. I'm not sure it was even open.

Visited Bowness on Windermere every year for the last 4 years and always make sure we get to dine here at least once. Food priced fairly, cant fault meals in the restaurant or as a takeaway. Staff friendly and service quick in a relaxed atmosphere. Cant wait to go back!

Had a meal here with a friend. Ordered starters which were really nice except we didn't get one of them that we ordered. The mains of beef in black bean sauce, sweet and sour king prawns (really lovely light on the batter) mixed veg and boiled rice. When we told them we had not received one of the starters they said they would take it off the bill but lo and behold it was still on there. When we advised them about it they took it off the bill. That aside it would good and would go back.

Called in for supper at the China Boat after finding surrounding restaurants busy. The staff were very pleasant and made my wife and myself very welcome. The food was excellent served on very hot plates in pleasant surroundings. Couldn't have asked for more.

Came across this restaraunt late on Friday evening,the guys were very accomadating especially Ben top man serving top food defo going back.

Visited here it was really nice very welcoming. The food was lovely and very enjoyable. We will definitely go back again.

Went to this place last night. It looked dirty the staff were un friendly and miserable from the off but we thought we'll give it a chance the food might be ok. Mistake! When we got our starters they didnt even give us plates to trasfer them onto andvyhe main course just looked wrong like thrown together. All in all a very poor excuse for a restaurant. Never again!!!!!

This was our second eat in experience at this restraunt, whilst we have been on holiday in the lakes.We had the early bird special, this comprised off soup to start, prawn toast , spare ribs, seaweed, spring rolls and satay chicken. These where all cooked to perfection and was delicious. We then chose beef and black bean sauce and sweet and sour chicken with both boiled and fried rice to finish.all was delicious.The waitress was very attentive and helpful, maybe a smile every now and then would be appreciated..... All in all a fantastic meal in authentic surroundings, which I deffinately recommend .

Decent choice for a non-special event meal. Menu was typical, food prices ok, drinks prices probably reflecting the town prices so a bit more than you find in the big towns etc. Would return.

We had two different duck dishes and rice with prawn toast starters. tasty, well presented and good service. A bit pricey, but it is on the front of the lake so to be expected.

We were looking for a place to eat during a bank holiday weekend which was proving to be very tough but we walked in and asked for a table of 4 and within minutes we were sat down ordering our food. The food was lovely and the waitress was friendly.

We called for a meal mom dad n son omg was ten thirty n was told we shut at 11 fairbenough we can eat in 30 mins not once was we asked how our meal was we had not even finished starters when main was Brought out young man was very rude ignorant n am not very amused disgusting not amused and will not use them again

Went here with wife on a Satarday evening,Seated quickly as were drinks.Was reasonably busy and food order was taken quickly.Had ribs for starters and spring rolls which were ok.Had sweet and sour mix and chicken dish for main.The chicken dish was not the best but I have to be honest the sweet and sour mix was very good.Couldnt fault the service but the atmosphere was a bit flat and there felt like there was something missing.It is your average chinese restaurant but if you don't want anything to fancy it ticks the boxes.

We always eat here when we stay in Bowness. The food, service and atmosphere are truly fantasticI look forward to this part of our visit.... Mmmmmm!!

We ordered a take away as the small children were in bed and this was a treat. Phoned in an order having picked up a menu earlier in the day. Person who answered the phone did not have a clue, said we had an old menu even though we picked it up a few hours previously. Put in order and it was ready fast. But..........the fried rice looked like boiled rice with a few bits of egg randomly put in it. We had ordered schezchuan chicken but it was just sweet and sour, the prawn crackers looked and tasted like a bag of Sharwoods prawn crackers. Ate it because we were hungry. Not sure I would go back here I a hurry.

Lovely restaurant, Brilliant service. I had the salt and pepper chicken with curry sauce and it was to die for. Crispy beef also looked fantastic and my mum had yellow bean sauce, one of her favourites but doesn't always get it back home. All in all great Chinese with friendly service.

Whole family enjoyed the food which offers both Traditional Chinese and Thai. Great service and everyone enjoyed the eclectic array of dishes we selected.

Made a decision to try the Chinese Restaurant takeaway menu. We ordered chicken satay and chow mien. We were unable to eat the meals as they did not look, smell or taste anything like what we expected. A total waste of money as the food went straight into the bin. My advice would be, not to visit this restaurant, absolutely terrible.

This is a fairly large restaurant with three rooms of tables, but only one was in use when we visited. The surroundings were not luxurious, heating came from electric radiators, but our food was okay. One of the waiters kept bringing the wrong orders to the tables, but it may have been his first night. Another wore a shirt with You And Me on it, another Chinese restaurant a stone's throw away. On checking later, they both have the same menu. We were going to dine in the Golden Fortune but it was shut.

All the good or ok places closed. Called here for take away for five. Ordered crispy duck, sweet and sour chicken, ribs, prawn noodles, some more mains and sides. Payed over £40.00 and believe me we were all hungry, the food was disappointing beyond belief, it was awaful. Binned the lot. Will never visit this place again.

Dreadful experience, very poor service by grumpy staff, some of our order failed to arrive, the table clothes looked grubby, the soft drinks were from cans, one of the meals that did arrive was very poor

Enjoyed our meal so much on the Friday evening that we decided to dine there again on Saturday night. We paid £13.50 each for a soup, combination starter and main course and found the food absolutely delicious and plentiful. Although there wasn't an awful lot of atmosphere, the staff were very friendly, constantly asking if everything was alright, which it was. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending this restaurant to anyone looking for good, tasty chinese food if they were in the area.

We ordered garlic pak choi, wanton soup, ma po tofu and the roast duck. The food was unappetising. The tofu was too hard. The roast duck was more like fried duck. We ordered half a duck but the portion was disappointingly small. However, the staff were very friendly and gave us a larger bowl of soup. If you're looking for authentic, reasonably-priced Chinese food, this is definitely not the restaurant to visit

Chose to have a meal here with my wife having visited several times over the years. The place as declined in standard and is cold and unwelcoming with a waiter with no personality.I do not know whats happened from years ago but they need a re think. The only positive is i got something to eat but i could of chosen one of the other chinese restaurants for that and got a better experience. Will not be back to this Chinese restaurant again with so much choice about.

When we entered, the member of staff was just standing behind the bar with his arms crossed, no smile, no greeting, just frowning at us. We felt very unwelcomed. There is hardly any heating so the place was freezing. We spoke to the people at the next table and they had kept their coats on because it was so cold! Food tasted ok, no problems. However, two out of the three of us were up in the night with 'the runs'. Would not return if you paid me.

I can honestly say this is the worst Chinese take away food I have ever had, & I eat out a lot with my job. The hot & sour soup was luke warm, greasy & tasteless, the spare ribs were flaccid with the fat not even cooked, the special chow mein was swimming in warm greasy water....the whole lot went in the bin. Ended up driving to Ambleside and getting Thai from Doi Inthanon. Can't wait for Golden Mountain to finish their refurb!

We go here a lot, and it's always good value and lovely food. The place has been revamped with a lick of paint and has a nicer feel to it.

Always enjoy our meal here, excellent service. Happy hour 3 course £9.90, good value, also big portion. Highly recommend.

I was looking for a takeaway on my first night shortly after arrival and didn't feel like waiting ages, so I went into the first Chinese restaurant I had seen while locating the accommodation. It was only early evening, so I wasn't alarmed by the fact that there were no customers inside, but over the following two nights I noticed that nobody was in there eating either, and during the next couple of days I noticed the same stains on the table cloths on the tables closest to the window.The restaurant is on the corner of some quite busy pedestrian thoroughfares, by day and night, but it probably cannot compete with the other eating places out on the main road where they are more apparent to a larger number of pedestrians and motorists. On looking around while I waited for my food I noticed that the interior was suffering from an apparent lack of business, with only two tables partially and basically set, the artificial plants falling out of the partition wall, and cobwebs on the wall decorations. The food was very bland compared with what I am used to eating back home (Scotland), and I caught sight of what I am sure was a scruffy chef of non-Oriental appearance when the kitchen door swung open. This is not to say with any certainty that Europeans cannot cook with oriental authenticity, but the food bore a strong tendancy of meals made by somebody who was either cutting corners or not intimate with proper techniques and use of oriental spices. As mentioned by Dave B, the "Fried Rice" was simply heated boiled flavourless rice with a broken egg forked through it. No seasoning, no onions, nothing else other than tasteless.The proprietor was dispassionate and indifferent, but I suppose I would be too if I wasn't getting any custom other than a first night takeaway customer who had not yet seen the stained tablecloths through the window by day.
