Perfect spot on the Shroppie Canal. Good, honest, no-nonsense food. A few good ales. Lovely garden(s). Very dog and walker friendly. All in all,a nice place to stop. Also does rooms.

What a great place, Saskia and Sophie looked after us really well. We were having dinner (which was amazing steak and skewers) We overheard Saskia dealing with some difficult foreign guests, and issues with their payments. She handled the problem brilliantly, keeping calm and sorting everything out. I hope if we ever have problems we are dealt with in the same way.

Great pub\restaurant that we dropped into. We didn't have a reservation but they managed to find us somewhere (2 adults, 2 kids). Additionally, I have an allergy which they handled BRILLIANTLY. The food was great all around, the prices were reasonable and the service pleasant. The only problem was the speed of service (but as above, they "squeezed us in" on a busy evening). We would definitely return.

Our first time staying here, and we will definitely return, we stayed in the family room and it's a beautiful room. We ate here for Sunday dinner and also breakfast, and both were lovely, both meals for my son with an allergy were carefully checked and prepared, he was a happy boy! Staying in hotel up the road went for a walk along the canal, came across this pub and decided to eat here, wasn't too busy for a Sunday evening, ordered food at the bar, veggie roast was really good, only slight disappointment was a long wait for food, but was worth the wait, stunning pub and location, Neck Oil on tap, glad we came across this pub on our walk.

Nice pub out of the way, lovely beer garden. Food was nice.

Option for two or three courses had only 1 vegan main.

We arrived on a very busy,sunny and crazy Friday night.We were eventually checked in by one of the waitresses and made our way up to the room.We got to the room via a small staircase,quite tricky with suitcases.Our room was nice with a great bed, shower and a small window overlooking the canal.The evening meal was taken in one of the many rooms downstairs and obviously it was very busy.The service was good but slow,over two hours.(You sometimes felt you'd been forgotten). You can chill out in one of the bar lounges after the meal.Nxt morning the breakfast was good,served at the table and then exploration of the hotel and gardens.Check out was at twelve which is great,all very nice and typical Vintage inn.The location of the hotel is excellent,right on the canal path where you can walk if you want straight into Chester (A very scenic 40 mins.) The Location,carparking,canal,Hotel was all great with a good atmosphere.The young lad behind the bar was very helpful and took time to help us out with any questions we had. We would definitely stay again.

The food here was very nice, we all enjoyed our meals, however the service was a let down. Our drinks order was taken not long after being seated, however after waiting for quite some time, we had to go and look for a member of staff to put our food order in. My daughter asked for bbq on the side, it was put on her burger. My vegetables weren't brought out with my roast dinner, I had to ask for them, then the carrots were left off so we had to ask for them. My sister in law ordered a drink which she had to ask for again as they had forgotten about it. It clearly stated on the menu for parties of 10 or more a service charge would be added. We were a party of 9 and they still added a service charge. Had the service been good I'd have not had an issue but why is it acceptable to expect to add a service charge for poor service? It was the only negative thing, such a shame as the food really was lovely.

Food was nice but waited nearly an hour to order food to the point we had to chase staff to order. Once the food came there was veg missing from the roasts, then carrots missing from the veg (both we had to chase for), sauce put on a burger when asked for on the side, 'fresh' veggies bought for a 1 year old were not fresh and had to chase a drink order as one was left off. We understand staff can be busy but perhaps if one server was allocated that area there would have been less forgotten and faster service. Not impressed and will not be returning

Well presented, Vintage Inns quality venue. We find Vintage consistent wherever we are. Charlotte served us attentively and made us feel welcome and relaxed.

It was our Anniversary and our server Laura made it a memorable occasion for us. She was brilliant.

Really love pub on the banks of the canal. Moored by the pub overnight but used for drinks, dinner and breakfast. Breakfast was particularly enjoyable. Great food and the friendly, helpful service by Sophia just added to the experience. She engaged with us about our travels and made the morning a real pleasure. Can't wait to return

Great meal at the Cheshire Cat tonight. Brilliant service from Laura, and food was amazing. The new menu with the skewer options in particular was excellent. The pub has definitely gone up many levels in the last year and now is our firm favourite.

Had a meal yesterday- very disappointed with the fish and chips - fish overcooked and dry

Ordered the Eggs Benedict, not the eggs Benedict I'm used to. One egg was boiled rather than poached and it was made with bacon not ham and not alot of hollandaise sauce. But it was still nice. I added hash browns as extra. I'd definitely come back and eat again.

came here a few weeks ago - the food is so nice, hearty, and good value for money (particularly the mac n cheese side). i particularly love that they have dog designated areas, which makes it more accommodating. i was served by Emily, and she was just lovely - really sweet and helpful!

Lovely Place nice food and Charlotte was a great host. Just the right amount of time between courses also.

I had Signature Skewers with humus and flat bread. The food was amazing and I would highly recommend. My friends also thoroughly enjoyed their meals too. We each had a desert which again we enjoyed, so many lovely flavours. If you are looking for somewhere to come for a meal you should definitely give this place a try. Beautiful building and lots of carparking space.

Haven’t been to this place in years as came here often when lived nearby we were so pleased to get a table on a busy afternoon and the service from Charlotte was lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday roasts and the gravy was the best we have ever tasted.

Great place to stop and eat or have a drink - we moored here and went in for evening meal. Really lovely staff great food, I had lamb skewers and feta salad was delicious - highly recommended!

Stayed 1 night in room 14 next to the canal. Room was spacious and very clean. Dined in the bar in the evening and food was fab, served by a lovely waitress called Charlotte. Breakfast next morning was one of the best I've had for a long time. Cooked fresh and well presented. Will definitely return.

Really nice food and portion sizes are super generous. Always a lovely roast here, highly reccomend. Our server, Charlotte was very attentive to our needs and led with a friendly smile and charm. Thank you Cheshire Cat!

Generally very nice food, especially the Sunday carvery and the brilliant breakfasts, but on our last evening my meal was not as described on the menu. As I suspected, management had changed the menu in the kitchen but not the printed ones, so they didn't match. Staff tried their best to fix the problem but I didn't find it value for money based on the change especially as it was the vegetarian option. Other meals had generous portions so I think this was just a glitch. It was busy here each night so it is clearly popular with local folk and it is dog friendly which was very entertaining!

We were very pleased with the service and meal. Laura was a very helpful person, her smile was very genuine. Unfortunately she didn’t know how to provide the origin of the amazing chicken liver pate. The pub is very tranquil with beautiful decorations.

Food was average with fish and chips below par. One member of the staff (perhaps because they were busy) was quite surly/abrupt.

We recently held a birthday celebration, and everything was excellent. It was my first visit to the Cheshire Cat, and I was very impressed with the range of dishes on offer. The food was delicious and the service first rate. We will return.

Sorry, but I really don't much rate Cheshire Cat at all. I find the decor downbeat and quite depressing and the mood of the place uninspiring. We took our 2 boys for lunch and the food was averagely expensive for what little they got ... and at almost £20 for nothing more than a humble burger it made my eyes water, BIG, BIG time!! To me, the menu isn't extensive, but it is expensive and the desserts are simply extortionate as they now are in almost every restaurant or eating house you ever visit!! There is now a vast choice of eating houses in and around Chester, but to me they invariably seem to put price and profit way above the need to provide quality and customer satisfaction at fair and sensible prices. I just want to feel well-served and happy with the food I've had at a price that makes sense and here, I didn't ...

We stayed over at the Cheshire Cat as we were visiting the nearby ice cream farm. We arrived just in time for a late lunch and we werent disappointed. The home made pizza was massive and delicious and so was the Fish Finger sandwich. We also had our evening meal here too. The boys pasta and garlic bread smelt amazing and got the approval of a 2 yr old too. Sophia couldnt do enough for us. Offering help with my boys, extra milk for our room for a cup of tea before bed to even offering to wash our boys own plates for us. Very attentive. Will definitely visit again

A lovely building with lots of character, our host Charlotte was very friendly and ensured that we were well looked after. Food was lovely, we had the roast dinner and I couldn't manage it all, portion size was more than adequate. Definitely worth a visit.

She wasn’t just a server—she was a guardian angel of hospitality, swooping in to turn what could have been an ordinary meal into an unforgettable experience. Her warmth, attentiveness, and sheer professionalism were beyond compare. It felt as though she anticipated our every need before we even knew we had one! Saskia, you are an absolute credit to The Cheshire Cat, and because of you, this will forever be one of our most cherished dining experiences. Thank you for making our Valentine’s special.

One pork belly and one trio of meats all cooked fantastic and brilliant size portions. Lots of veg (nit pictured as forgot!) Will definitely return.

This is a good pub which is reliably good for food. The menu changes regularly and has enough choice whilst not being over complicated . The Sunday roast was very good, not too much food and excellent gravy. It’s a busy place and the atmosphere is a little noisy and lacks cosy seating areas. It’s also begging for fires to be lit to create some warmth and focal points. The service was good albeit it felt bare basics. Not a place that goes the extra mile is what I would surmise.

The food was very good and the service from our waitress Charlotte was exceptional. We could not have asked for more, 10/10.

Its a rare day off for me, I had my hair done and came for lunch at my favourite place, all by myself.. The lovely waitress, Sophia has served me today and honestly, she's been so friendly, welcoming and above all got my order right. 😅 😂 We've discussed fat injections, aging like a fine wine and drinking actual wine, children and a much loved deceased husband. It's been a journey and the best lunch ive ever had. Cheers Sophia 😊 I'll be back. Also... give the woman a raise Cheshire Cat! 🙌

What can I say but what a lovely place to stay. The evening meal was superb. So relaxing and not rushed. Turned out to be such a pleasant evening. All 3 courses were delicious and my wife especially thought the Lasagne was out of this world. Breakfast in the morning was beautiful and could tell everything was cooked from fresh. Got talking to the Head Chef Alan and he should be proud of the food he and his team delivers. If I'm ever back in the area believe me this will be my first stop.
