Lovely food, drinks and atmosphere.

Charlotte hosted us today, perfect service. It’s a great place in a lovely location. We had a really wonderful lunch, the roast trio was very good indeed, and we will definitely be dining again here.

Lovely place and food, there was an issue in the kitchen for our visit so a limited menu but what we had was fantastic despite the set back. Will be back for sure when in the area!

Nice venue, plenty of parking and situated canal side. They are happy to cater for larger groups. Some outside seating.

we often visit here as we always receive outstanding service. We popped in on Friday for your irresistible burgers and of course a beer or two and once again we were made to feel welcome and had fantastic service from Sophia who is a credit to the business. This venue is always busy which is testament to the consistently great food, compliments to the chef(s) highly recommended.

We’ve just had the loveliest afternoon here. We had a little stroll along the canal first and then into the pub which is in the most beautiful setting, the building is just stunning and loads of the character has been kept and restored. The service was amazing, we were served by Layla who was just flawless, as was every member of staff that we encountered. The food itself was also really delicious, being part of a chain I wasn’t expecting too much but all 3 courses pleasantly suprised us. We also bought our 2 spaniels and we were made very welcome and felt very much at home, with water bowls and doggy biccies. We will be back!!

The food was stunning Pheobe was polite, helpful, efficient and friendly. The food was lovely and phoebe made sure we had what we wanted. My husband is a vegetarian with some difficult eating habits, so landed up with three starters which were perfect

Excellent location. Proper country pub atmosphere. Food is amazing and staff are very attentive. Reasonable priced as dessert portions are massive 😄. Highly recommend

Lovely family/pet friendly pub. 1/4 disappointed with starter as there were clumps of mud in with the mushrooms. Overall happy and would come again. Laura was a great host.

Great location, lunch was ok, we stayed overnight and had a lovely room with breakfast included. The breakfast was fantastic, perfectly cooked and plenty of it. Not a buffet like most hotels. For the price we paid we couldn't fault our stay. Would recommend.

Served by Laura. Well done to The Cheshire Cat staff for our stay and meals. Our 3 night stay and lovely accommodation and friendly atmosphere in beautiful setting. Just a little more options on the menu please as sea bass was popular and had run out. Also breakfast include bananas and few more options other than with eggs or containing eggs would be great. Busy Wednesday night, didn't book but waited and got seated straight away. Great service and a good choice on the menu. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

We had our dinner at the Cheshire Cat tonight after a couple that were staying at our hotel mentioned that it was just down the road, is dog friendly and does delicious food. We were served by Laura today, she was so friendly and welcoming and there were treats and bowls of water for our dog. I had the beef bourguignon and halloumi fries and I couldn't fault either 🤤. My mum who is usually fussy with vegetarian options at restaurants had the halloumi and Aubergine skewers with a feta salad and a beetroot wrap, she said it was all made with really fresh ingredients and was so delicious. 10/10 would highly reccomend!

We were served by Sophia. Lovely lady, extremely helpful and welcoming. A first rate member of staff! Our food was all absolutely delicious and we will certainly be returning…. Hopefully to stay as guests as it was so good. Beautiful setting, really lovely atmosphere and first class in all respects. Also very good value and superbly cooked!

Charlotte was an excellent member of staff very friendly and helpful asked a few questions about the area and she was very helpful.

Lovely Gastro pub, great beer garden. The food was delicious, we had chorizo whilst waiting and it was so nice then the mains were superb, the mash potato is to die for! The pavlova with mango and fresh cream is the best ever, everything was so yummy and great portions, well worth every penny. Compliments to the chef 😁

Visiting Chester but want comfort and style? The Cheshire Cat's got you covered! Possibly one of the best places to stay when visiting Chester, the service was brilliant and the rooms are primarily located in a building to the side of the main restaurant (some are above so enquire when booking). ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Staff and Service were amazing... When you could get their attention. Attentive and friendly otherwise, there were adverts for additional staff on display so I had to give 3 stars as that was the experience but it didn't seem to be any fault of them. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Rooms! Absolutely bang tidy. Really comfortable, soft sheets and it was welcomed after going around Chester. Very well taken care of and clean, you can tell that despite them being primarily in a building to the side, it's not an afterthought. 💷💷 Prices are a little higher than your average bar/restaurant but then again it's not your average pop in for a pint pub! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Interior was really nicely decorated and it was a nice mix of a traditional and the modern and clean looks. Overall a great place to eat and drink. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Exterior was impeccable. This added to the whole experience, if you are staying or just going to eat, as it was really inviting. Some of the l8ght placements were really well done as well. Conclusion is that The Chesire Cat is a great location. I stayed as a visitor going to Chester but I could also see myself visiting often if I lived in the area. I even signed up for their newsletter... Now I have serious fear of missing out everytime they email but I can't make it back!

Wow. First time here and will be back again for sure! Wonderful staff who couldn’t have been more lovely along with a fine selection of delicious cask beers topped off with an absolutely scrumptious Sunday roast, one veggie, one meat, both amazing. Thank you so much. Even got a discount by using the app! Happy days by the canal.

Me and my friend both had chicken salad and to be really honest chicken was absolutely murdered it was so dry we both just saved it for my friends dog but place it self is amazing and staff and atmosphere is brilliant I will reserve the right to say that chef might of had a bad day fingers crossed And when you charge £16.50 for chicken salad it kind of expected for a very decent salad

Perfect spot on the Shroppie Canal. Good, honest, no-nonsense food. A few good ales. Lovely garden(s). Very dog and walker friendly. All in all,a nice place to stop. Also does rooms.

What a great place, Saskia and Sophie looked after us really well. We were having dinner (which was amazing steak and skewers) We overheard Saskia dealing with some difficult foreign guests, and issues with their payments. She handled the problem brilliantly, keeping calm and sorting everything out. I hope if we ever have problems we are dealt with in the same way.

Our first time staying here, and we will definitely return, we stayed in the family room and it's a beautiful room. We ate here for Sunday dinner and also breakfast, and both were lovely, both meals for my son with an allergy were carefully checked and prepared, he was a happy boy! Thank you so much and hopefully see you soon! 😊

Sophia was excellent with our food and drinks service

Great pub\restaurant that we dropped into. We didn't have a reservation but they managed to find us somewhere (2 adults, 2 kids). Additionally, I have an allergy which they handled BRILLIANTLY. The food was great all around, the prices were reasonable and the service pleasant. The only problem was the speed of service (but as above, they "squeezed us in" on a busy evening). We would definitely return.

Staying in hotel up the road went for a walk along the canal, came across this pub and decided to eat here, wasn't too busy for a Sunday evening, ordered food at the bar, veggie roast was really good, only slight disappointment was a long wait for food, but was worth the wait, stunning pub and location, Neck Oil on tap, glad we came across this pub on our walk.

We arrived on a very busy,sunny and crazy Friday night.We were eventually checked in by one of the waitresses and made our way up to the room.We got to the room via a small staircase,quite tricky with suitcases.Our room was nice with a great bed, shower and a small window overlooking the canal.The evening meal was taken in one of the many rooms downstairs and obviously it was very busy.The service was good but slow,over two hours.(You sometimes felt you'd been forgotten). You can chill out in one of the bar lounges after the meal.Nxt morning the breakfast was good,served at the table and then exploration of the hotel and gardens.Check out was at twelve which is great,all very nice and typical Vintage inn.The location of the hotel is excellent,right on the canal path where you can walk if you want straight into Chester (A very scenic 40 mins.) The Location,carparking,canal,Hotel was all great with a good atmosphere.The young lad behind the bar was very helpful and took time to help us out with any questions we had. We would definitely stay again.

The food here was very nice, we all enjoyed our meals, however the service was a let down. Our drinks order was taken not long after being seated, however after waiting for quite some time, we had to go and look for a member of staff to put our food order in. My daughter asked for bbq on the side, it was put on her burger. My vegetables weren't brought out with my roast dinner, I had to ask for them, then the carrots were left off so we had to ask for them. My sister in law ordered a drink which she had to ask for again as they had forgotten about it. It clearly stated on the menu for parties of 10 or more a service charge would be added. We were a party of 9 and they still added a service charge. Had the service been good I'd have not had an issue but why is it acceptable to expect to add a service charge for poor service? It was the only negative thing, such a shame as the food really was lovely.

Food was nice but waited nearly an hour to order food to the point we had to chase staff to order. Once the food came there was veg missing from the roasts, then carrots missing from the veg (both we had to chase for), sauce put on a burger when asked for on the side, 'fresh' veggies bought for a 1 year old were not fresh and had to chase a drink order as one was left off. We understand staff can be busy but perhaps if one server was allocated that area there would have been less forgotten and faster service. Not impressed and will not be returning

Well presented, Vintage Inns quality venue. We find Vintage consistent wherever we are. Charlotte served us attentively and made us feel welcome and relaxed.

It was our Anniversary and our server Laura made it a memorable occasion for us. She was brilliant.

Great meal at the Cheshire Cat tonight. Brilliant service from Laura, and food was amazing. The new menu with the skewer options in particular was excellent. The pub has definitely gone up many levels in the last year and now is our firm favourite.

Really love pub on the banks of the canal. Moored by the pub overnight but used for drinks, dinner and breakfast. Breakfast was particularly enjoyable. Great food and the friendly, helpful service by Sophia just added to the experience. She engaged with us about our travels and made the morning a real pleasure. Can't wait to return

Ordered the Eggs Benedict, not the eggs Benedict I'm used to. One egg was boiled rather than poached and it was made with bacon not ham and not alot of hollandaise sauce. But it was still nice. I added hash browns as extra. I'd definitely come back and eat again.

came here a few weeks ago - the food is so nice, hearty, and good value for money (particularly the mac n cheese side). i particularly love that they have dog designated areas, which makes it more accommodating. i was served by Emily, and she was just lovely - really sweet and helpful!

Lovely Place nice food and Charlotte was a great host. Just the right amount of time between courses also.

I had Signature Skewers with humus and flat bread. The food was amazing and I would highly recommend. My friends also thoroughly enjoyed their meals too. We each had a desert which again we enjoyed, so many lovely flavours. If you are looking for somewhere to come for a meal you should definitely give this place a try. Beautiful building and lots of carparking space.

Haven’t been to this place in years as came here often when lived nearby we were so pleased to get a table on a busy afternoon and the service from Charlotte was lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday roasts and the gravy was the best we have ever tasted.

Stayed 1 night in room 14 next to the canal. Room was spacious and very clean. Dined in the bar in the evening and food was fab, served by a lovely waitress called Charlotte. Breakfast next morning was one of the best I've had for a long time. Cooked fresh and well presented. Will definitely return.

Generally very nice food, especially the Sunday carvery and the brilliant breakfasts, but on our last evening my meal was not as described on the menu. As I suspected, management had changed the menu in the kitchen but not the printed ones, so they didn't match. Staff tried their best to fix the problem but I didn't find it value for money based on the change especially as it was the vegetarian option. Other meals had generous portions so I think this was just a glitch. It was busy here each night so it is clearly popular with local folk and it is dog friendly which was very entertaining!

Food was nice, Charlotte our waitress was great

Food was average with fish and chips below par. One member of the staff (perhaps because they were busy) was quite surly/abrupt.

We were very pleased with the service and meal. Laura was a very helpful person, her smile was very genuine. Unfortunately she didn’t know how to provide the origin of the amazing chicken liver pate. The pub is very tranquil with beautiful decorations.
