The Chequers in Central Bedfordshire

Our first Sunday Lunch but not our first meal here but what a really nice surprise to have a ‘proper’ roast dinner served by lovely friendly staff and landlady. Plenty of meat and was given the choice to have one or both choices on our plate. Crispy roast potatoes, fresh veg (not out of the freezer like so many others offer) and lashings of gravy. We even got offered seconds on the veg and stuffing balls! We ate at 2pm and there wasn’t many others eating although there may have been earlier diners but the atmosphere was still very friendly and inviting. This won’t be our last Sunday roast and I hope this review will help make others choose this little gem of a proper pub offering good quality and quantity fayre.

Very friendly and very welcoming to us, when we popped in when visiting the area! Food and drinks were great too, which was a bonus!

We arrived a bit late for Sunday roast. The food would have been better earlier. We had roast turkey and beef - big meal and we finished it. We'll be back. Earlier next time.

Food tasty but beef a little hard for me to cut but really friendly staff that swapped my beef for turkey nice little place

Good choice or home cooked food. Sunday Roast was great value and a great choice of beers, wine and gins.

Good selection of beers and lagers. Nice selection of food on menu. I had the pie and mash, which was lovely. Staff very friendly.

Warm and friendly. We dropped in for lunch and were welcomed by staff and locals. The food was great and well priced. Would definitely visit again but it's a long way from Nelson NZ.

what a beautiful pub ,I was passing through today sat 18th and stopped off for a pint and a packet of plain crisps, good ale and pleasant reception and being a Yorkshire man I like a good ale and I got it here i highly recommend this pup i will be back

Good food at reasonable price. There were quite a few of us with many cars so we parked blocking each other in. The landlord complained that we could have parked further forward but if we had would all have been blocked in if others arrived later, he should have just been happy that he had so many customers. When we were inside, however, he couldn't have been friendlier. Nice pub well worth a visit.

Really enjoyed the tapas. A relaxing way to share a variety of flavours without overeating, particularly in warm weather. Good range of beers and ales and very friendly atmosphere, clean, well kept traditional pub.

It's been a long time since we have had great food in a pud thanks to everyone at the CHEQUERS ROGER ISABELA AND OUR DOG ALSO HAD A GREAT TIME

Always between 4 and 6 real ales, properly kept, on sale. Friendly country pub, have eaten here on several occasions and come away suitably filled and satisfied. Food is always beautifully prepared and presented. Landlord is a footy fan so if there's any on, the TV at one end will be showing it but at a low volume. The low timbered ceiling makes the pub feel as warm as the welcome you'll receive.

Lovely friendly pub. They even have a comedian in there on monday evenings! Well, may be not a comedian, but he's got a wealth of funny stories, and could probably write a book.

Very friendly service, good well-kept beers and very nice food. A nice touch was that whilst there was no specific kids menu, my children were offered a great set of options which were cooked to order and they loved their meals. We visited for Saturday lunch and will be returning.

Nice place with nice character. Warm fireplaces to welcome you. My wife and I had a sandwich each for a quick bite on the way somewhere. Food was served quickly and with a smile. Sandwiches were fresh and tasty.

The Chequers is a traditional village pub offering a fair range of home-cooked food as well as the usual beers and so on. The current licensees, Glen and Andi, own a bouncy castle which comes into use whenever there's weekend BBQ weather, so it's safe to say the pub's child-friendly these days! They have also introduced free WiFi to the pub, and there's a pool table in the backroom area that I don't think was there before they came. I drink regularly in The Chequers when I'm down South; it's always been a nice pub and a decent pint, but the place has changed hands far too often over the last few years. Hopefully this won't happen again, as Glen and Andi are a pleasant couple who are gradually introducing a number of changes for the better. I was particularly taken by their fish & chip takeaway service! Doesn't sound like much, but there are no food shops in Wrestlingworth these days, and not everyone enjoys eating in public.
