The Chantrey Arms in Sheffield

Unsafe. Avoid. A friend and I visited this establishment on New Year’s Eve. Within minutes of walking into the pub my friend was grabbed, kissed and groped by another customer. We went straight to the bar to report what had happened but 10min later, the staff member hadn’t removed the person. I returned to the bar and reminded the same person. He displayed his annoyance by rolling his eyes. Our sheer lack of regard for how busy he was seemed to take precedence over our safety. I approached what I thought was another member of staff for help. He tried to dismiss me by explaining he was the landlady’s dad but intermittently engaged my complaint nevertheless. I explained for a second time what had happened and he promised to check the cctv but continued to drink his pint. We were sober and as two females out to enjoy our night….we should feel backed when such reports are made. The man (who’s title is still unknown) proceeded to dismiss my distress claiming once more than he wasn’t a staff member. Yet, he went onto say it would be passed over to the police if they find anything. The person was allowed to stay…..until when? He very briefly attempted to explain that it was our word against theirs. I cut him off to remind him that 1. We’d just arrived 2. We hadn’t been drinking 3. We had witnesses 4. They have a duty of care. 5. It happened right under a camera. Yet, still no care….i tried to gain his empathy by asking how he’d feel. He shrugged his shoulders and said he wouldn’t care. So that’s that. I realise at this point that he clearly doesn’t understand the law around consent. No details were taken. Nothing was reported and for the couple of minutes we hung around. The staff huggled together to snigger at our misfortune. Oh…..and there was a new born baby thrown into the mix behind the bar too. Very odd, very unsafe, very enabling. Edited to add; as you can see from their reply below. Passive aggressive, dismissive, unprofessional staff with zero compassion….a recipe for disaster for a female customer that’s just been assaulted. It’s now been confirmed that Chris was the one I had to ask for help a second time. He’d heard it all before and didn’t care. That’s before turning to the other person (the landlady’s dad)…….that doesn’t work at the bar. After some time to think, I think I should learn to communicate and rationalise to an even higher standard when communicating an assault. Especially when feeling unsafe, as I’ve learnt that at The Chantrey Arms…..the victim is 100% to blame. Still no police report. But it’s all ok….the baby is safe. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Very odd indeed.

I have been coming to the tree for many years I now live in Blackpool coming to see family pretty regular , I cannot believe how it's changed for the worst there's no atmosphere it's dead until you get disco or carioki you will never get the clientele back .

This is a proper long standing local pub on the main road. One room pub with 4 TV's. Very friendly and good value. Casta took a Cornish pint; St Austell Tribute. Although a Pale Ale it is one of his favourite pints. Boothroyd stuck to cider. Three real ales on sale. Very good cellarmanship. Small rear paved beer garden.

Knows its client base; fast service and the guy behind the bar knows how it's done. But the winner is the deejay who plays classic tracks from my era. We are coming back for more!

Well went in for my partner’s birthday to enjoy some 80s classics and we was queing for a drink at the bar was stood where everyone was as it was busy and got the women behind the bar young girl then held a sign in front of me like pushing it in my face what said glass wash area she was really rude and I think the manager needs to act on how their staff treat others not impressed to say the most

Lovely old pub. Used 2 live up the road and use the pub 30 years ago. Still a nice pint of Timothy Tailors.

Called in late on a Saturday night it was buzzing but it is a very local pub with obvious local regulars.

Must admit we don't go here very often but called in earlier today and they have had a really nice makeover since we last went in. Two cask ales on (Farmers Blonde and Tim Taylors Landlord). Had the Lanlord and it was lovely. Give it try.

It's finally coming back to life.

Just reopened after refurbishment and is back how it should be.

To crammed on Saturday night and waited over half an hour at the bar for a drink.

Friendly, good sevice, well kept beer.

Friday night is fine for a good night with the disco. Mix of old and young people people. Has improved recently and the bar staff work hard.

Hadn't been in for 30 years, it will be 30 before I go back, sorry.

Hi been going in the chantrey for years great pub but only gave 4 stars because they have got rid of the best DJ on a Friday and Saturday rosco but good beer

The bar staff was amazing. The door staff on the other hand was rude and asked me 3 times in 5 mins mins to drink my drink. Was only just after the bell had rung

A nice pub. A bit more traditional (local pubish) than the average city pub. Sadly there 'are' screens, but they do not predominate like they do in other city pubs; There is plenty of opportunity for conversation or for playing games, friendly clientele & staff. To sum up 'Cozy & friendly'.

Busy little place on a weekend and perfect if you like karaoke.

Great local pub, friendly staff, great DJ on Friday nights, and Rosco does the Karaoke on Saturdays too! House double spirits £2.50 plus mixer, plenty on draught with some real ale as well! Pub too small for a kitchen so no food, but has all Sky Sports! 👌🍻🎉

This gets busy at the weekends but is usually a good night. Live jam or karaoke at the weekends

Great pub. Gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights with people doing what they should do in a pub - enjoying themselves.

Good beers and ciders. Don't expect to be able to breathe on a Friday or Saturday night though as it's a game of sardines.

Friday nights always good nights in The Chantrey, lovely staff, good quiz nights and a great place overall.

Quite an 80''s experience ! Great music if that's what you enjoy ! First time we've been. We're not in a rush to go again ! Fella says it's for wrinklies and slappers ! Reasonable prices !

They mean well and everyone is friendly but this boozer needs to drag itself into the 21st century. I guess there must still be a call for bland lager and karaoke!

This is an unpretentious local boozer with real ale, Sky and BT sports. Dog friendly. There's not many of these places left. Use it or lose it.

Friendly staff. All the usual refreshments. Sports channels. (Including Sky and BT) DJ Karaoke. Decent crowd (I class myself in that) Dart board. Random piano. I have wasted.......sorry spent many a beautiful sunday afternoon in here. Can't fault it. Possibly the best pub on Woodseats at the minute.

The pale ales are good (Bradfield Farmers Blonde and Abbeydale Moonshine). The Friday night 80s disco with Roscoe is a brilliant evening.
