Lovely setting and great for a coffee looking over the river. We thought we'd try the restaurant this time. So diappointing as we only live about a mile away. No welcome or friendly smiles on entering. When we asked about food, the waitress didn't even bother getting up from where she was chatting to other staff. She waved vaguely to the other side of the room and said the menus were over there. Basic pub food albeit a bit pricy by local standards but when it finally arrived, both meals were cold. No quality check from the serving staff who appeared to have gone AWOL so we had to head to the bar in a different room to let them know. The plates were taken away in silence and brought back - in silence, micro-waved, So much for the 'proper pie' that was now soggy mush. No further quality checks and met with only scowls and hostility when we got up to pay. Such a shame.

Decided to walk across the canal to visit the horseshoe falls and what a lovely place. On the way back I popped into the chainbridge and what a lovely and cosy place. As soon as i went inside it was lovely and warm. I got a drink and went on to find somewhere to sit, I ended up by the fire which was very comfortable to sit. Staff were very friendly, toilets were very clean. Food wasn’t being served when I visited but the menu had a lot of variety, nice to see it caters for gluten, dairy, and vegan too. Will definitely visit again.

Stayed here for 1 night my partner, our daughter and my parents. Have been coming to the Chainbridge for many years and have always loved it, the staff are always happy, polite and very helpful. The hotel itself is in a beautiful location with River Dee on one side and the canal on the other. Inside there bar there is an area that we like to call 'the snug' that has a few tables and leather chairs around a very cosy log fire that the staff always keep alight. We had dinner and although there was a slight mix-up, the staff rectified it straight away, couldn't apologetise more and went out of the way to make everything right. Our 2 year old loved running around and speaking to all the staff who were laughing along with her. We honestly love this hotel and it's character so much. Thank you for always being so welcoming and accommodating ❤️

My husband booked this hotel based on a friend's recommendation. After booking we looked at some of the reviews and based on what we read I have to admit I was dreading it. We had a lovely stay and would definitely return. We arrived and the car park was full but we managed to park the car. (The car park is a little tricky and can be very awkward to turn around). On arrival we were greeted at reception by an older lady who was very pleasant. She advised us breakfast that was included was continental breakfast and they have a lovely selection available but if we wanted a English breakfast this would cost an additional £10.95 each, obviously we were a little disappointed about the price but we wanted a full English so, paid up. We were in room 23 (corner room, on the first floor) the room was perfect. It was clean and just the right temperature. There were teas and coffee available with some lovely biscuits. Balcony was clean and a great view. We went down to the bar to have a drink and had a look around the hotel. It was very interesting and lots of things to look at and read. All staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was comfy and we slept well. The following morning my husband took a shower and said it didn't not have much power, it was more of a little trickle. We went down for breakfast and was greeted by a young women. We told her our room number and she advised us to sit anywhere, this was the only downside to the whole stay. We had to prompt the young waitresss about our full English as we weren't sure how this was processed. She quickly came over though and took our order. After 25 minutes and no breakfast insight, I prompted again and was told that the chef had not seen our ticket. The young lady lacked professionalism but she was young and we just put this down to this possibly be her first job and maybe shy. There was a more mature waitress and she apologised and was very professional. The breakfast eventually made it to our table and was delicious. Bacon, sausage, beans, FRIED egg, hash brown, black pudding, fried bread, mushrooms and tomatoes. The continental breakfast was bread, bagels, rye bread, couissants, jams, cakes, cereals, fruit and yogurts. A fantastic hotel and I would stay again.

What a hotel the Chainbridge could be if some love and care was put into it, beautiful setting right on the Dee and the canal on the other side. There is a foot path that takes you to Llangollen took us about 44 mins, lovely walk. Things that need improvement- staff are quite unhelpful and don't seem bothered, be wary of the steel steps outside that lead to the carpark they are ruthless snd slippy, my partner fell down one whole flight and when he told them the answer was...The amount of people that do that! No care, no accident book. The log burner in the lounge was almost out and they didn't bother lighting etc. We stayed in a ground floor room as we had the dog, it was very tired and smelt of damp, room was clean and OK, I'm not sure that of you have a dog you kind of get the worst room which I do get to some degree. See pocs attached regarding wires hanging from TV, a wonky lamp underneath and wonky shelf in bathroom, an overloaded plug socket, I mean come on I could fix those wires better myself with no experience, it's almost like a it'll do kind of attitude! Don't think I would stay again which is a shame as it could have so much potential! The lady on reception was very lovely.

The website clearly states that food is served until 3:00 pm, so I arrived at 2:20. However, there were no staff available to take my order. I waited in front of the manager’s desk while she completely ignored me, too busy joking on the phone with a staff member about the rota. When someone finally did appear, I was told they had stopped serving food at 2:30. Overall, a disappointing experience with poor service. As I walked out, I noted their 3/5 food hygiene rating so will not be returning.

We sayed in room 45 and it was disgusting! We only got in late or would of walked out. The room smelled of overpowering bleach, we later realised it was to cover the very strong smell of damp. The plug wouldn't open, the sink overflowed. I wiped the floor with a small towel and it was dirty from the floor. Under the bed hadn't been cleaned in a long time (see pics). There was no mirror in the bedroom to do my hair. Breakfast started well. We ordered a veggie and vegan breakfast, 20 minutes later we were told there was only one sausage between us. The attitude of the staff was very dismissive. The manager kept saying she didn't remember checking us in the day before whilst looking at our dog. On the way out my husband mentioned the smells and broken plug. The manager said the smell of beach proved the room had been cleaned. He said to check under the bed. Our bags and clothes smelled of the strong dampness. We left it at that becaused we'd enjoyed the previous day out and were in good moods. A little later I received a poorly written, abrupt message (see pics) saying they had checked the room and that we had wiped our dog with their towels. They said they were taking £25 from my account to buy new ones! Not once did they ask why the towel was dirty. I rang and spoke to the manager who accused us of sneaking our "huge dog" into the hotel and using their towels to wipe her! I told her the towel was used to wipe up the overflowing sink and was dirty from their floor. Also that it was one hand towel not all of them. We have towels for our dog. Told her we put on the booking that we were bringing our dog and wanted 2 vegan breakfasts which we didn't get. Also said if she took money that it would be theft as I din't agree with charges. She hung up! I rang back and after lots of attempts to catch me out she said "we'll just call it quits then" and hung up! I've emailed back and have been totally ignored. Not one appology or any kind of interest in her customers! Nice place to stop for a drink but the canal side room we stayed in was grim and dirty, the duty manager didn't care one bit.! We had to wash our coats, bags shoes etc as the smell of damp from there was on them. I wouldn't stay again and I've told others to avoid.

Stayed for three nights for our 47th wedding anniversary, our room was clean and serviced daily. Nice crisp bed linen and fresh towels, a lot of money has been spent on refurbishment and there is still work to do. Lovely flowers outside and the views from our balcony were stunning, you must book a room with a balcony as the others back on to the canal. The restaurant does not serve an a,la carte menu, but the food we had was lovely and we enjoyed it. Parking was a problem, i feel that the limited parking spaces by the Hotel should be for staying guests only as the other car park is a bit of a route march and not suitable for those who have difficulty walking. All in all it was a most enjoyable stay but those of us with a more mature figure could do with a Kingsize bed.

We took the steam railway from Llangollen to Berwyn, and then crossed over the bridge to the Chainbridge Hotel. It was a glorious sunny day and we had a lovely lunch sitting on the terrace. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the river and mountains, as well as watching the kayaking/rafting. We had fish finger sandwiches, which were served with fries and salad. Service was prompt and friendly. The hotel itself is very beautiful, with floor to ceiling windows to enjoy the views, and lovely floral displays. We also did the 10 minute walk from the hotel to the Horseshoe Falls, following the canal path at the back of the hotel. Well worth a visit.

The staff were all first class. Helpful, friendly and just great especially the lady behind the bar! Can't fault it and would definitely go back.

We had a lovely stay here back in March. We were able to check-in a little earlier, which was great. The lady in reception was very friendly and helpful. Our room was spotlessly clean and much bigger than we expected. The breakfast was also very good with excellent table service from the staff. There's a cosy bar area downstairs with a good selection of drinks. We didn't stay for an evening meal, but it seemed popular. The view over the river was lovely. It's a gorgeous place to sit and enjoy a drink. One thing worth noting is that the reception shuts at night, so you have to tell them if you're coming in after 10 or 11 (I forget which) as you have to leave your key behind when you go out. We had no problems with this, but it always makes me nervous if you're given codes to get back in etc, and there's no one there if it goes wrong. There was also no WiFi in our room, as it was being upgraded. This didn't bother us, but it might to some people. There was good WiFi downstairs in the bar. The young lady in reception in the evening was so helpful trying to get us a taxi, and gave us walking directions into Llangollen when we couldn't get one. All the staff we encountered during our stay were fantastic. We'd definitely stay here again next time we're in Llangollen.

The restaurant has a magic location beside the river and the restaurant staff are great. However very disappointed in the meal. My wild mushroom pie was drowned in thick salty gravy so I couldn't taste the small quantity of mushrooms and the pastry was soggy. The ubiquitous peas that came with it were tinned. In retrospect I should have sent it back and I am still regretting that I didn't. Maybe it was a poor menu choice but I would hesitate to risk another meal there.

We stayed in the Chainbridge suite for one night. We arrived at the reception at 1420 on a Saturday afternoon, we were told we could only check-in from 1500hrs. We asked if they had a 'left luggage' area, the lady behind reception pointed to some bags behind her and said 'here, but I'm getting boxed in'. We kept hold of our bags. We decided to have a bite to eat whilst waiting for our room, unfortunately the restaurant closes at 1430 and doesn't reopen until 1800, I asked if they had sandwiches (or anything else) we could buy, a member of staff told me I could buy crisps behind the bar or 'if I was feeling adventurous I could go in to the town'; the town is 2 miles away. We got in to a queue to check-in at 1500, when we eventually got to our room it was fantastic with great views. As we were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary I went to the Bar to get some fizz, I was told it is not possible to charge things to your room. The restaurant is open for evening meals between 1800 - 1945. Breakfast is 0800 - 1000, lunch 1200-1430. Outside of these times there is no provision for food except crisps ie no room service, no vending machines, no sandwiches Breakfast was OK, but it was quite small. I suggested to my wife that given how strict they were on not bending the check-in time we could probably expect a knock on the door if we hadn't vacated by exactly 1100hrs. I was wrong, at exactly 1100hrs a member of staff opened our door with a pass key and walked in without so much as a cursory knock, she announced check-out was 1100hrs. We were about to walk out of the room but we still thought the behaviour was not right. We found the staff to be friendly and polite, even the lady who came in to our room without knocking had a polite manner. I think the hotel lacks something; the intransigent check-in policy, the restricted restaurant times and the lack of ability to charge things to your room give the impression of being a little outdated - not in a good way.

Stayed the night for a relaxing birthday treat, but left more wound up than before I came! Location and balcony room were fabulous and made up for the shortfalls! Parking is a nightmare, less than a dozen spaces which are not prioritised for guests staying there. Had to park in another small upper car park and carry our luggage up and down 3 flights of stone and metal bridge steps! You then have to negotiate your way awkwardly to reception with your luggage through a narrow walkway lined with tables of people spilling out into the path. Arrived half an hour early for check out and asked to go and wait until the 3 pm check in time. Checked in at 3.10pm, arrived at our room then had to wait outside for the cleaner to finish! The evening meal was nice although not the biggest portions, however the view and the staff were lovely. Room was a bit small but nicely decorated, the balcony overlooking the river was amazing. However you have to ask if you need an iron or even a hairdryer. Breakfast again was small, we had asked for toast and waited for it but it had been forgotten. When I pointed out that we had to leave and so to cancel the toast there was no apology at all, just a flippant remark about some lying cold by the toaster and it had been forgotten as to whose it was! Unfortunately not the chilled out experience we had hoped for!

Booked for Mother's day 19th March well in advance. Restaurant did find our booking. Got there 2.30pm, very busy & I think overbooked! Carvery on which we didn't expect. Meal okay but not very hot & lamb undercooked & fatty, daughter couldn't eat it at all! Beef okay. No smiles from waitresses except for one helpful girl. Waited 40 minutes for dessert due to lack of detail with service so my husband complained. Nice when they came & to be fair they were deducted from bill. Such a shame as we went last year for Sunday lunch & were very impressed with food & service. This has put us off somewhat from returning.

We were excited to stay as it was the first away since September 2020, the photos on the website made the place look brilliant and we were meeting family for the one night. The hotel is in a picturesque setting right next to the river, we had a lovely welcome, the bar & lounge area is decorated in a warm cosy manner. We made our way up to the second floor to the room we had booked....small double canal side. The room was a let down, it wasn’t decorated the same as advertised on the website- the window hinge was broken, the bathroom or room with shower & toilet was tiny with an ill fitting sliding door (the sink was in the bedroom), there was a hole in the wall where the door had been slung open (which my partner reported to reception) the biscuits were out of date and the decor was tired looking, the bed was not very comfortable...my partner had a spring sticking in him. The room could have been used in an episode of faulty towers. There were 13 of us staying & mass confusion over a table that my MIL had booked & confirmed twice...the initial restaurant member of staff was rude & lacked any customer service saying that they weren’t taking table bookings, then finally another member of staff apologised & went out of his way to get us sorted. We finally got some tables to accommodate us... the evening meal was “ok” but nothing to shout about, breakfast was a lot better & the service quick. Now that we are home, we can laugh about the whole “adventure”. Sadly I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay unless in one of the “dog friendly” rooms or in one of the suites. Nice place to stop & have a pint with a quick bite to eat.

So we have just spent an amazing 2nights at the chainbridge hotel for the bank holiday weekend! We had such gorgeous weather and loved the walks along the canal, the walk to the horseshoe falls and to sit and drink coffee on the balcony and watch the train pass by whilst listeningto the river. We noticed lunch time is an extremely popular time for visitors, and so because of covid we had to que to get back into a hotel we have paid to stay in and wait for our key which was at times a little annoying and a bit unexpected. Could maybe do a different system or dont recommend hotel guests to leave the key. (I can understand why its usually done but)We ate in the hotel and both really enjoyed our meals, breakfast was also a pleasant experience, not a huge breakfast but definitely enough! The staff at the hotel were all amazing and very welcoming Now the reason ididnt and couldn't give the hotel a 5 star review which kind of comes as a heavy heart to say.The room! The room, if it didnt have that view would have been a massive disappointment. The standard for cleaning wasnt up to any normal hotel, the window didnt have a handle which had clearly fell off along time ago. The dust and cobwebs were a bit of a shock and the windows were really dirty. Also the shower curtain! I have not stayed in a hotel in many years which still has a shower curtain, as they are also know as a breeding ground for bugs and was all dirty an old at the bottom. If I was to recommend the hotel, I still would because we did really have an amazing time it was just the room, the hotel has so much more potential. With some minor changes this hotel would be the best!

Got a table at the front overlooking stunning views. Shared a starter of chicken liver pate with crispy toast and lovely chutney then one of the best fish and chips I've ever had. The Station Ale gets the thumbs up as does the super friendly service despite a very busy bar.

I’ve been here lots of times for drinks and enjoyed the view, so we decided to come for food over Christmas. We Attempted to book a table in early December to be told they did not take lunch time bookings but to just show up, there would be room. We did so and were told there was no space in the restaurant as we had not booked. We found a place in the bar luckily which was fine. We were given menus but were told we couldn’t have a specials menu as they were in use by people in the restaurant. When we ordered, we were told there was no veggie lasagne, we’d have to pick something else. I’m not entirely sure why no one mentioned this when the menus were given to us? The food then took a good while to arrive and was pretty average when it did arrive. The chips seemed a bit undercooked. No one table checked us or came to clear our plates so in the end we decided to not bother with dessert. Overall probably wouldn’t return.

stopped here on the walk back from the horseshoe falls to the car park. Really glad we did. The chain bridge is accessed though the hotel but there is an outside area so dogs were allowed(which was good as we had 3) we ordered 2 coffees and 2 tea(in teapots) which came to £10.50 which wasn't too bad. really enjoyed the break with the added bonus of taking photos on and of the bridge. Very picturesque place

We stayed for a long weekend at this hotel for our anniversary. Beautiful setting overlooking the River Dee. All river facing rooms have balconies giving fantastic views but the rushing river was noisy at night while trying to sleep! Room was adequate, although a little dated but very clean; also extremely hot in room, however mini fans were in place on bedside cabinets. Nice breakfasts & evening meals. Nice walk along canal path to the town of Llangollen.

Food was quite probably the worst I have ever tasted. The turjey had obviously been heated up as it was curled up, apple pie was cold and the lasagne had obviously been heated up too. Not great for the price. Friendly staff, though even if one of them did drop the serving napkin straight into my dinner. I'm guessing the waitress was new so I won't hold it against her.

Went to chain bridge restaurant for a Father's Day meal, firstly it took around 30 minutes for the staff to even come and take our order. I had Cod Goujons as a starter and they arrived cold, as a main I had the vegetable lasagne which was over cooked and like ut had just been slapped onto the plate. For dessert I chose Apple Pie and Custard, the pie itself was completely cold and the custard was lukewarm. It was 3 courses for £20 which given the quality of the food, extremely overpriced, this was a very disappointing experience for us. The staff were clearly not trained and not friendly either. When asked if the dessert was supposed to be served warm, the waiter's response was 'yeah i could have changed it if you had said earlier' which I found to be unprofessional and rude.

A not so good time this time. We called at the Chainbridge for a celebratory meal, as we were celebrating 6 years of being together. We pre booked an evening meal. On arrival, we were greeted and shown to a table. I ordered what was supposed to be vegetable soup which turned out without any veg in, and was tasteless. I left half of it. The wife, had king prawn for starters, and found the bread given was so thin you could see through it. More of a crisp than bread. My main meal of lamb hock, came without the mash potato that was mentioned on the menu, and the rosemary sauce was tasteless too. We asked for coffee, rather than a dessert, and after waiting half hour we decided to ask for the bill, to leave. We got the bill, went to pay for it and mentioned to the very kind bar person of our disappointment work our meal. She took our phone number, as she said the manager would call us to discuss the issues. No phone call to date.

We came for dinner here last night and it far from met expectations. We arrived into an empty bar, and waited 4 minutes to be met by a waitress who told us quite abruptly that we should just go to our table, she gave us very rough directions, rather than simply showing us there. We ordered the first round of drinks at the table, and when they did arrive after a long wait only one out of 5 of the drinks we received were correct, two of us receiving a lime, soda and gin rather than a gin and tonic as we’d asked. We were then asked by 3 different members of staff in the space of 5 minutes if we were ready to order, making us feel rushed. The starters were of a good standards, however the mains were hit and miss, my duck being dry, the lamb shank tasting like it was from a microwave bag, and each dish missing something that was on the menu. The service continued to be clumsy, with staff leaning across the table to serve people and dropping items if food and cutlery on us as they cleared the table. We constantly had to ask for extra drinks and even sauces, when asking for vinegar we were given a single sachet. For the price they charge for a main (£12-£24) you expect at the very least an average level of service which unfortunately we did not receive. As Unfortunately with the competition the Chainbridge has in Llangollen, I won’t be returning any time soon.

We had the honour of holding our Wedding Day at this hotel on 2nd March 2019. I don't know were to start. This place is amazing. We had visited this hotel many times before both to stay and to pop in for lunch, hence why we chose this venue. Firstly the staff were without doubt the most hardworking staff I have ever encountered in a hotel. The hotel manager could not do enough for us, the waiting on staff were absolutely brilliant as were the reception staff. The food was perfect on the day and our families all said they would definitely love to revisit. If you are thinking about booking a wedding here then don't think just book, you will be treated like a princess and everything will be just perfect. Thank you Seamus and please thank all you staff who are a credit to you. You all made our day perfect and just beautiful. See you all soon.

Lovely outdoor seating area overlooking the River Dee. One can take the heritage railway to Corwen and get off at Berwyn, the penultimate stop on the way back, cross the chain bridge [hence the name] and walk the rest of the way back to Llangollen on the canal at the rear of the hotel. Super cream tea with scones and jam.

The first thing to mention is the beautiful setting for this hotel and the great views through the restaurant windows across the River Dee, with the occasional steam train passing by to add to the interest. Our visit was on a Sunday lunchtime and it was good that as well as the Sunday Roast Menu, the 'everyday' menu was also available.

First saw The Chain Bridge Hotel from the train when it stopped at Berwyn station. It looked the perfect location for a peaceful week end break. We were not disappointed. From the momemt we arrived it was perfect. Warm welcome when checked in. The room we booked was a basic room king size bed with balcony over looking the river. It was clean, comfortable, pleasant decor views to die for at a reasonable price. Perfect. The restaurant was very comfortable in fact all the communal areas proved to be very comfortable with stunning views. The evening meal was excellent; we each tried something different for starter, main and sweet, all excellent quality and presentation was delightful. A full english breakfast hit the spot to set us up for the day. The waitress service was spot on very helpful pleasant and polite. Looking forward to the next break which will be for a longer stay.

An amazing location with the bridges, the river, the canal, it’s fabulous. The light and airy room, well kept beer, the rushing river, the friendly staff, all good. The menu is ambitious and adventurous but sadly the food we had was not quite what we would have hoped for. Duck breast with poached pear. A hard piece of pear straight from the fridge rather than the warm soft sweetness I was expecting. A port reduction that was a watery gravy, a chewy duck breast, a vegetable quiche that was vegetable paste without any bite. A shame but it may well have been that we were unlucky.

After a lovely walk along the stunning Llangollen Canal, my family and I headed into the Chainbridge for some lunch. A very helpful barman came and put some tables together as we were a largish group. This was without asking so I was hugely grateful as we had some young children so this was a nice gesture. Unfortunately, this was to be the end of the good service we received here. A few of us decided to order from the sharing menu (a mix of whitebait, pitta and hummus, squid etc.) which had an offer of three items for £10. We went for six which cost us £20 between the three of us. We weren't massively hungry but thought six dishes would suffice to see us through to dinner that evening. Oh, how wrong we were! Here's what our £20 got us:

The Chainbridge has been undergoing continual restoration since the new own Seamus took this historic hotel under his wing a few years ago. The hotel is a now a lovely perfect setting for a stroll and a lunch with a view, nestled on the River Dee. The sun was shining on Tuesday and family when we arrived for lunch, the hanging baskets and floral displays are stunning! The new balcony is the perfect place to sit outside whilst eating lunch. The new menu is wonderful! The sharing tapas dishes were utterly delicious, padron peppers, welsh raerbit, homemade hummus and my favourite the whitebait! The beef and horseradish baguette was delicious and fresh, real beef! We can't wait to go for an evening meal next time we walk there! Thanks for a great afternoon. Liz, Angie, Phil and Sarah... We came to sweet daisy for ice cream after a meal at the pub. There were eight of us so a big order. The man who served us was lovely, smiley and patient. There was a long queue forming behind us but we didn’t feel rushed. The ice creams were delicious and my sister said ‘felt like they went on forever’ 😍 which is quite the compliment! I had a rocky road and it was the best most delicious ice cream I’ve had all summer. Thank you.

Been here numerous times and it was very good. This visit was awful and we’d recommended it to our friends who we were with. There were only 3 other tables occupied and there were 3 young girls waiting on. They were excellent at avoiding eye contact, we had to ask for menus and then had to ask for our orders to be taken, it was possibly the longest wait for food that we’d ever had. We came a few weeks ago and the staff were 3 ladies who were excellent, very engaging and efficient, what’s happened to them? Our food portions were far smaller than usual and there were things missing from previously eaten meals from the same menu. This place has definitely gone downhill and we would be reluctant to return.
