First time I ve been in this place for years since falling out with Myra Hindley and Gestapo Bill the so called landlords and heard they had finally gone 😭🙃😁about time.. first impressions it needs updating very badly tired worn out but never tried the foods place seems to be happy pub with good beers so yes I will be back 😀😀😀🍻

Don't understand when you book a table. Arrive on time. Order and pay for meal, then have to wait nearly an hour for it to arrive. Not good enough when you have other stuff arranged.

It was a great experience from start to finish. I booked a table for 22 people. I sent in the pre orders. The staff were so helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was great and fantastic service! Thank you Centuriun!

The inside of the bar itself is absolutely fantastic. The staff are incredibly friendly who work immediately behind the bar. The toilets are clean and smell clean. However, the outside is where the smoking area is and all the outside tables and huts could really do with a damn good clean. When I say clean, I specifically mean the patio could do with a very good pressure wash and the weeds could do to be pulled in the fence could do to be mended where it is slightly Broken.

Went their for Sunday lunch. Not overally impressed. Table menus suggested better for an evening out.

Came in on our anniversary, i had a steak that was just a chunk of rubber could not even cut it with a steak knife. Told nice lady who took plates away who said sorry. My wife had fish which was nice. Spent over £40. Was not even offered a free drink.

There was none of us in the group. One of us had steak which was tough too hard gammon but the pineapple wasn’t a pineapple ring. It was a piece and it was very hard. Couldn’t cut. It had mixed grill beef with the state was tough sausages undercooked red wine lasagne is okay curries were okay, felt that stuff that was cooked in the kitchen wasn’t up to standard

Only popped in for a quick drink will return for food

Today we had a fantastic meal at the Centurion, food was excellent and well prepared and cooked to perfection. Everywhere was clean,staff were polite and very friendly, the main and most important part of our experience was how helpful they were to my garlic allergy. Chloe the manageress went through all the things we ordered to check there was nothing garlic related, we had steak which was done on a separate grill. Thank you to Chloe and the team you were all fantastic we will return highly recommended Bryan

We had a nice family meal at the Centurian at the weekend. Sat next to the open fire, which was a great spot. The food was nice, it was served quickly considering how busy the pub was, it was hot and tasty, and what you'd expect from pub grub. The gravy on the roast was really flavoursome, I enjoyed it. The staff that we encountered were all welcoming, helpful, and attentive. They really made an effort to check in on us. The only thing that I will add is that the smaller appetite option on the children's menu is suggested for up to age 7, personally, I'd say the portion size isn't enough for a 7 year old. We'll go for the bigger appetite option for our children if we return with them. The pub has lots of offers on food and drinks throughout the week, we'd like to try the steak one. After a pleasant experience on Sunday, we'd like to return for another meal some time soon.

Typical Ember Inn, good selection of beers and wines. Food is good pub food. Good atmosphere, staff are friendly but service can be a little slow sometimes.

Very busy but still had great service

I went as one of a large group (20+) for an evening meal. The Centurion is a classic pub restaurant with a pleasant neutral decor and a nice atmosphere and was reasonably busy that evening. We had given prior notice and were seated together without difficulty, which is by no means always the case. Despite the numbers, service was very good, being pleasant, friendly and efficient. The food arrived hot and was tasty. All in all we spent a very pleasant evening and I would happily recommend The Centurion to anyone for a meal out.

We came here twenty five of us for a church committee meal. The service was great the food was brilliant we all had something different and it was all served together and hot, I didn’t take any photos because it would have been rude to but I would highly recommend this place

Considering there was a staff shortage and were closing earlier, the venue was very busy but not in a bad way. Everything seemed very organised and waiting times not as long as told. This was our first visit and would definitely go back again. There was a good buzz about the place. The food very good and drinks very reasonably priced too. There were no bad points that I can think of.

Nice atmosphere however the food was very poor. Ridiculously small portions and poor presentation

Normally like this place but today was an absolute joke. Took my 3 year old daughter to get some lunch, waited an hour after being told upto 30 mins, food still didn’t arrive, watched as a Xmas party were served starters and main courses and all the attention was on them. Ended up cancelling the food and getting a refund. Went elsewhere and was eating within 15 mins

Food was like warm, didn't get a full plate,i.e parsnips and carrots were missing, was told, sorry.... dessert made up for it

As someone who has been coming to this pub since I was 18 (far longer ago than I wish), I’m genuinely sad to write this review. Had an awful experience this evening. The worst service I’ve encountered in a long time - to say the woman who served me was rude and obnoxious would be an understatement. It’s the first time I’ve ever been called a liar by bar staff purely for pointing out a genuine error with the order. The situation was made worse when the server just walked away rather than try to resolve the situation with me. As someone who has enjoyed great hospitality over the years, I’d say this was one of the worst and most unprofessional experiences I have encountered. Advice for potential customers based on tonight’s experience - Avoid and spend your hard earned money somewhere far more deserving. Advice for Ember Inns - don’t take your customer loyalty for granted and train your staff properly in the basics of how to deal with people. After over 20 years of returning to this pub, I will no longer be coming back.

Went here as a group 4 adults and 2 16 year old. One of the 16 year old and one adult ordered food. As he was going to eat, was bought a half of lager by an adult. The landlady came over and demanded we leave as he wasn't allowed to drink bcoz he's not 18. As far as I knew (and I have checked) a 16/17 year old can have a lager or cider if they are eating (as long as they don't buy it themselves). We requested a refund for the (as yet undelivered, even though had been ordered some time before) food. Wouldn't recommend going if you have a 16/17 year old who may like a half with their meal. We will not be returning.

We were booking for a large party for a team Christmas meal and as such had chosen this venue as it appears to look like it has an enjoyable atmosphere and an appetising menu. Whilst we found the actual venue and the food to be quite enjoyable the customer services left a very sour taste in the mouth. When liaising with the booking person over the phone we found them to be both rude and unhelpful, we were told in no uncertain terms that our deposits which we paid would be non refundable, (Had it not been we certainly wouldn't have come along). we took this to mean that we had paid a deposit and if our food came to less than this then we would not be refunded the difference. It was not specified anywhere that it would differ to this. We were told we needed to submit a pre order by Thursday 7th December, however when we tried to do this we were unable to get through and so called back and then left a voicemail. this phone call was not returned and as such we tried to call on the Friday, again we had no response and no action on our voicemail. We repeated this on both Saturday and Sunday with no luck. We finally got through on the Morning of the booking, the lady on the other end was very rude about the fact we were submitting our pre order now rather than apologising for the issues that had happened with the phone system as one would expect there to be. We attended the venue, and due to both illness and unavailability our party was much reduced from the original booking (Although this would have been noted upon us submitting our order on Thursday as we tried to do). The food was out to us quickly and efficiently and the waiting service was ok, However upon trying to sort the bill we were told we needed to pay an additional amount, this despite the fact our original deposit had covered the meal in full. When we asked why they were looking to charge this then explained that they had to turn away another large table. The restaurant was by no means full and the table we were sat at was for 6 people and as such I struggled to see where they had reserved a table that hindered the ability to service this additional table and in all honesty felt like a reason to charge extra. Upon challenging the bill there was no understanding of our position until we proved we had rung and left a voicemail. All in all the customer service was absolutely appalling, Whilst i appreciate the customer isn't always correct, that is a view that is had in the kitchen or in the back office not in front of the customer. I for one am very disappointed and struggle to see how i will visit here again myself let alone recommend.

Very busy pub, but we did go on a Friday evening. Very hard to hold a conversation due to the noise. Food was ok, average pub grub. Value for money and friendly staff. Really liked the fact you can order from your phone via the QR code. Saved fighting your way through the masses to get to the bar. I like a quieter pub, but this pub is very popular and lively which is a very good sign in this day and age. Only 4 stars due to me getting old and not liking the noise.

Amazing service by the young lad who was on and the young lady. They made the Christmas lunch very festive and the table looked a treat

Cozy pub which is ideal for bringing the family to on those chilly sundays for a good roast. They do a good 2 or 3 course meal deal too. Well worth a try.

Food was good and we didn't have to wait too long to be served

Was with a group for 98th birthday for my Dad ..All happy with meals . My steak was very tasty and just the right amount of veg and chips. Waffle was a little dry but tasty. Cannot fault service food arrived quickly and hot but a pity the plates were not. Staff pleasant, friendly and helpful.

The staff were absolutely lovely..cheerful and obliging. Unfortunately the cutlery and glassware were dirty and had to ask for 2 glasses and a knife and fork to be replaced. There were 9 of us dining and we had five different meals between us..and we were all happy with them.

Went at lunchtime and had the three course meal for £11.50.Brilliant value for money, great atmosphere and staff. 👏

We really enjoy coming to the centurion for our Sunday meal with our friend's. But we're disappointed with Our offering . We already know what we all want .but unfortunately the lady at the bar didnot relay to us the menu had changed. You now get a chicken thigh Not breast sliced. No beef only gammon. Cabbage very woody and chewy not chopped. What's happening to the quality of your food? It's gone down x

I am sat in the Centurion at the moment and ordered the Rump Steak. The Steak was all gristle I could only cut one very small piece off with the steak knife. When I told the server she said “well that’s what they send us I will pass the message on”. There was no offer to rectify the issue and she just walked away. Avoid!!!the food is not worth it and the service is poor. Only as we were leaving were we offered a complimentary dessert but as my meal had been spoiled we declined and left.

Went for breakfast. Great value but would be even better with a bottomless brew.

Why do you serve the rib bones under the dried up fatty beef makes the beef look a bigger portion sad,!!

Booked table online without any problems & given a 2hr time slot. Received warm welcome & when shown to our table was asked if we were happy where it was. As we were having brunch the waitress reminded us that it was only available up to 12:00 & then after that it would be the Sunday lunch menu. Found the choice to be really good & favourably priced. We didn’t have to wait too long before our meals arrived & we’re pleasantly surprised with the portion size! We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals & will definitely be returning before too long! Highly recommendable!

It's always a busy pub which means it can be noisy but staff are nice and food and drink is nice but why do they charge so much for coke? All pubs do and it could be a lot cheaper

Booking a table on the internet was super easy. Although it was busy, and were told there was a 45 minute wait for food, we did not mind as the staff were attentive, the atmosphere was good, and when the food arrived it was hot, and delicious.

Wait on food was ridiculous as we waited 1 hour for our main and 20 minutes for the desert. No one asked how our meal was and plates were on the table once finished for 10-15 minutes. As a Mitchell buttler employee I’m understanding but poor service is poor service especially when it’s dead so no excuse.

Staff were superb and so friendly. You never get a second chance to make a first impression and all the staff we dealt with were so professional. Perfect.

The bar person had no idea what items were included with my choice of Turf and Surf. In response to my question, what is included? His answer was, "Prawns." I would hope so on a Turf and Surf! When pushed, he said, "Chips." I ordered an extra side of onions, only to find they formed part of the meal anyway. And did I mention the peas, tomatoes, and mushrooms? He didn't! It would have helped if the menu had been clearer. Not to worry, as I won't be returning. This wasn't the first time that I had been disappointed here, but it will be the last.

Pub atmosphere, friendly staff, quick service, everything we needed 👍

Made complaint on website in June about poor service. Waitress announced to room not individual tables that food would be an hours wait. We had visitors down from Scotland (there was four of us at the table). Email was basically third degree about what table, what number and wanted to speak to me personally. Felt like I was getting the 3rd degree casting doubt on my experience. No apology received. Needless to say we haven’t returned. It won’t matter to them as the pub is always busy.

Only when here to pick up a menu. The staff where helpful. Today went for lunch, excellent food, staff friendly and helpful I would strongly recommend this place.

My wife and I had a lovely anniversary meal which was more than filling, App for table service was not updated so was more than useless but they had everything that was required ( app is not run onsite but by a third party) Would highly recommend for a wide selection of drinks and food.

Visited here for lunch, had the 2 courses offer. The food was dreadful, the mushrooms for starter was barely edible but the main course was just dreadful. Grilled chicken breast, tasted like the chicken had been boiled and then quickly grilled to change the surface colour, the garden peas were cold and the chips were just about luke warm. Took it back, the staff apologised and new meal was supplied, the peas were hotter but the chips were not. We left most of the meal. The staff are very nice though and very accommodating and helpful but I cannot recommend the food. This was my first visit to this pub and I will not be going back, I’m sad to say.

First visit came with my grandaughter n two of her work colleagues. Had three courses for £11.95. Great value. Lovely food lovely staff. Love to visit again in the future

Everything is great about this restaurant. Service, staff, food and cleanliness. You should be very proud of your team. I would recommend a visit you will not be disappointed.

This is pretty local to us and I must admit we stopped going as regularly as the food quality dropped off, we decided we wanted a beer and a glass of vino 🍷 the other day and whilst sat there we decided to give the food ago again to see if there was an improvement.. unfortunately not !!! Small portions of microwaved food..I mean, how hard is it to prepare fresh veg? My carrots even had freezer burns still visible after being microwaved to within an inch of their lives .. even charged nearly £3 for a small bowl of mash potato 🥔 which wasn't even the quantity of a potato..very poor. On the upside, the beer and wine was lovely..

I have dined at the Centurion many times and have always had good food and good customer service. This last time the food and service was not as good. The chips tasted as if they had been reheated. We waited 45 mins for our dessert after having asked twice if we could have our dessert. I will try again and hope it's up to par again.

Excelent place, dined there for the first time ever last month food was 1st class, plus excellent customer service answering queries regarding a wake. I then asked them to provide catering for my fathers' wake and I have to say it was excellent. My mum is celiac and they seperated hers off and gave her more than enough to eat all gluten free. Excellent food, staff, drink, atmosphere etc highly recommended.
