The Cedar tree in Rochdale

I visited The Cedar Tree with my family for a special birthday and was blown away by what an incredible gem this place is! There’s a lovely cosy feel to the whole place. The food was lovely and while we all had different starters and mains, I lucked out by ordering the Salt and pepper calamari which was just awesome. The hangin danglin skewers were also amazing. Whilst the restaurant was quite busy (first Sunday of spring) I couldn’t fault the staff. Our server was so friendly and efficient and yet unobtrusive. Just the right balance. For the price paid, this has to be one of the best value for money meals we have had in a long time. Overall, delighted to have discovered this gem of a place and we will be returning again for sure.

Appalling We had a table booked for 2 pm on my birthday. It was a special birthday. The Cedar Tree knew that it was my birthday. We were delayed by at least 2 trams not working by one hour but we rang and constantly kept in touch with the Cedar Tree to let them know what was going on. “Oh, that’s fine, no problem” , was the reply. We finally arrived at 3 pm. We waited a long time for our order to be taken. Our starters arrived about 45 minutes later. The starter that I wanted, which was the skewered prawns, were not available so I ordered the salt and pepper calamari. They were inedible as they were so salty. My husband ate them as he was starving and has an asbestos palate. Even he said that they were very salty. For his starter, my husband ordered the warm ciabatta with oil and balsamic vinegar. The ciabatta arrived with two packs of butter and two empty bowls for the oil and vinegar. He then went to the bar and asked for the oil and vinegar and they were brought to the table. The waitress who had brought the food to our table did not realise that the oil and vinegar were not in the bowls!The balsamic was very acidic and not the balsamic that I know. By 4 o’clock, we still hadn’t received our main courses. I went to the bar to see where our food was and she said, “it’s on its way”. I then went to the toilet and went back to our table. We waited. We then decided that we were leaving and went to the bar to tell them. I said that I wasn’t paying for the starter, but my husband didn’t hear me and paid for both the starter and the Cava. Their excuse for the delay was that we had delayed our booking and that there were a lot of “walk-ins”. I wondered why “walkins” had been given priority over us, especially given that they knew that it was my birthday and they knew that we had had a problem getting to the Cedar Tree? I said that, if this was the case, that our delaying our booking had been a problem, then she should’ve managed our expectations. Instead of saying “yes that’s fine” when we had said we were going to be late, she should’ve told us that our food would be very late. I asked why the people on the table next to us who had arrived after us had been served before us l. She said that it was because they were booked in. We paid £33 for a bottle of Cava and some inedible and incorrectly served starters. We went to Stocco in Oldham on the way back. Our order was taken almost immediately and delicious food was served in 10 minutes! Says it all. An appalling experience not to be repeated.

Brilliant place to relax with friends or on your own Rachel is a lovley host as well as her staff and always makes you welcome.has great entertainment on all the time which I have been too many times. Great atmosphere and quite local to lovely walks around.

Greeted with a lovely warm homely atmosphere. The staff were so welcoming and smiles were plentiful. The food was absolutely superb and nicely presented. Best steak and ale pie I've ever tasted and the sticky toffee pudding was unbeatable.

We had our daughter’s 1st birthday party here last week and it was lovely! The food was amazing and had something for everyone, there was more than enough for everyone also. It’s a great place for families, we had small children there and they were able to walk around without feeling like they were getting in the way. Rachel is so lovely and made sure everything was sorted, thank you so much!

We were a group of 12, and had pre booked a table for a celebratory meal. Pre orders were took for our dinner, and this certainly eased the experience for us all (and I’m sure the staff at the restaurant). All our meals came out correctly, on time and with no fuss. Food was lovely and we all really enjoyed ourselves. Staff were pleasant and the venue is clean.

This is a pub restaurant. Service and ambience was good. Food was good for the price. Unfortunately we had a young child on the next table that cried a lot which did not help the evening.

A lovely friendly pub to spend a happy Saturday evening in, celebrating a very special birthday. All who had food were very happy with it.

My family and I went to he ceder tree for the first time on a Sunday I had the Sunday roast and my family chose something different we all absolutely enjoyed the food the staff were all lovely and friendly the garden outside was really relaxing comfy furniture and music playing lots of flowers and butterfly's we really loved our first visit there and we Intend to visit again 😊

We stopped for food 🍲 in the middle of our journey, it's delicious, even kids liked it, recommended 👍🏻

5 of us went to the cedar tree for Sunday Dinner and we were not disappointed. The 3 courses for £19 is really good value and there wasn't a scrap of food left on any of our plates!! The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us.

I was invited to a baby shower at the Cedar Tree for the afternoon tea. The tables looked beautiful with the pretty vintage tablecloths and china. The selection of sandwiches, pies, brownies, scones and cheesecake were lovely. Far too much to eat. A constant supply of tea and friendly helpful staff. It was a lovely, relaxed afternoon that we all thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you to Rachel and the staff. We even sat outside in the sunshine with a glass of fizz before our tea.

We have been several times as a family for meals and they are always delicious. We recently held our mums surprise 60th here and I can’t speak highly enough of everyone at the Cedar Tree, especially Rachel. She was so helpful and accommodating, helped us with planning from the get go and was open to all our crazy ideas!! Helped us with everything even organising entertainment and drinks on arrival for guests. On the night the team were all fantastic and took care of everything so it was seamless. The Buffett was phenomenal with fresh tasty dishes not your average beige selection. We’ve been back for dinner again since and wouldn’t hesitate to host another event here. A huge thanks to Rachel and the full team 💛

Made the most of the 50% offer and the burger was absolutely delicious the flavor of the beef was outstanding never tasted one that flavoursome before. Even the little side salad was delish with pomegranate seeds in.

Tut tut tut Returned here after a wonderful meal last time to what I can describe as the worst meal I've had Firstly the deal was £30 for fish n chips and two wines 13 chips and a tasteless fish on my plate 14 chips and part frozen fish on another plate Complained got up walked out messaged via messenger when I got in woke up to a message saying no one else complained so basically I'm a liar!! Wont be going again!!!

Nice meal nice surroundings. Took daughter and the two grandchildren for Sunday Lunch. Nothing was too much trouble. Ale tasty too.

We called with a friend, who lives nearby, after a lovely walk. We only had drinks. The place was quiet, as it was only tea time. The menu looked good as did the price!

Great place for people looking for gluten free options. Had the sunday lunch today and was lovely, my wife is celioac so have to have gluten free. Rachel and the team could not do enough to help to ease my wife's celioac concers, even got a GF cheese cake for afters, win win, defo recommended

Once again a great meal at the Cedar Tree. Cheese & onion pie never disappoints & the Prawn & Pepper skewers were delicious. We always say we won’t manage a dessert but once again we had to try the chocolate fudge cake and Rachel’s Homemade cheesecake. Overall, excellent food, great atmosphere & lovely service from the staff. Recommend.

We like to eat out when we can , having a few good restaurants in our area we chose here because of their November offer , eat out to help out , ( we like a bargin) even without the offer it is still good value. The guys had steak, cooked perfect . The prawn & chorizo skewers and the homemade cheeses cake were fab . Staff lovely . Thanks Rachel & Andrew x

Came here last night after reading the great reviews, really wish we hadn’t. Food was dreadful. Scotch egg starter, cold in the middle, egg was hard boiled, not runny. Veg soup was okay Chicken skewer was awful. The chicken didn’t smell good, wife left it. Rump steak was shocking. Load of fat and gristle left on the meat, tasted like old boots, a real cheap cut of meat. Genuinely believe these reviews are fake as our food was not good, a bad experience

The food was absolutely delicious. The pepper corn sauce was really nice. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was great.

We chose to host my mums 80th Birthday at the Cedar Tree. Rachel, Andrew and the team are wonderful. Rachel let us decorate the room before hand and bring our own playlist. She even let my mums ukelele group play. Andrew always makes superb food , everyone commented on how good the pie was and what a lovely time they had. I highly recommend it here. We went for my mum's birthday. The food was gorgeous and the staff looked after us from beginning to end and they were so pleasant. They brought her cake out and they all sang. Will definitely go back soon. What a memorable birthday!

I just wanted to take a couple of minutes to say something about my visit the other day I made a booking through email and was texted a very welcoming yes arrive at 5.30pm for your table Upon entry was greeted with a nice big smile and shown to our seats. We was asked for drinks which arrived quickly and then ordered our food!!! What can i say about the food except wonderful and fresh and hot We had a cheese garlic flat bread which was tasty My pie was delicious and my wife's chicken was beautiful It was a Thursday which was a discounted night on full price but would not of hesitated to pay full price!! When leaving a restaurant if I'm not full something is wrong well I wasn't and then went home and fell asleep with a full belly Thanks to all the staff at the cedar tree especially the girl behind the bar with the glasses sorry forgot your name but it makes a good start with a big welcoming smile well done Keep up the good work we will be back ❤️

I had to visit after seeing all the 5* reviews and it did not disappoint. I have since visited another two times and on every occasion, the food has been incredible and the service lovely. I even went back to pick up the leftovers that I’d forgotten because the food was that good! You will not be disappointed 😊

We found this hidden gem pub restaurant today and we had a lovely meal, Sunday lunch 2 courses for £15 or 3 for £18, all freshly cooked and very tasty, very good value for money. The homemade cheese and onion pie was lovely, my hubby had a Sunday roast which looked and tasted great

Our second time back and it did disappoint. What can I say about this fabulous pub that hasn’t already been said. Three couples last night dined inside and omg the food is amazing. The staff are so professional and friendly and Rachel who is the main lady is second to none, such a lovely lady and really does make you feel welcome. I have recommended this place to family and friends. Food is absolutely top notch! Can’t wait to visit again.

Sat in the garden on a pleasant sunny evening. Really lovely with blankets if you get chilly. Service was immediate and very friendly. Good choices and prices. Had sea bass....delicious, followed by ginger sponge and ice cream... sooo good! Will be back. ❤️

Came across this place on a whim, and wow! The steak was cooked to perfection for both the Sirloin (Rare) and Fillet (Medium-Rare), topped with Blue Cheese sauce, and the salad was drizzled in a delicious sauce. The table also had heavily favoured reviews for the Sea Bass and the Homemade Classic Burger. For dessert, I had the Chocolate Fudge Gateau, and it was so good that it didn't last long on the plate. The service was exceptional, very friendly, and quick to serve with food and drinks. The place was also very clean, considering it's a bar, especially the toilets.

St Georges Day Afternoon Tea We had a fabulous day celebrating St Georges Day at The Cedar Tree. We took the opportunity to make it a family get together and everybody had a wonderful time. The afternoon tea was lovely and presented in true english style. Rachel was extremely accommodating making an alternate gluten free meal for one family member and it was exceptional, considering the event was a traditionsl afternoon tea. The atmosphere was superb, especially when the vintage singer sang and everybody got into the St Georges Day spirit, singing along, waving flags and dancing. Rachel and her team were very attentive throughout the day ensuring everybody was well looked after whether that was table service or bar service. I highly recommend this place for special events like this as the effort made to ensure everybody has a great time is second to non ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Cedar Tree recently hosted our son's 21st birthday celebration. Not quite a full blown party but more than a sit down meal (his choice!). The service provided, from first enquiry all the way through to the event itself was outstanding! The evening itself was fantastic. The whole team were so friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed and more. Due to the nature of the event, we ordered the hot and cold buffet which was absolutely delicious and superb value. Whether it is for a quiet drink, something to eat or a full celebration, I recommend The Cedar Tree without hesitation. Thank you for such a first class experience.

Called in on the way home from a day out with both our mums to treat them to tea. Ordered two burgers, Menu said cooked pink, both cooked dry as a bone and tasteless, 10oz gammon was tiny and thin and definitely not 10oz and we sent the fish and chips back as it was inedible, like a piece of grey rubber. The lady who owned the pub was very polite when it came to exchanging the meal but the food was absolutely terrible and I was quite gutted as this was meant to be a treat for our mums. Would not recommend

Not very customer friendly. Taken to insulting a bunch of hiking customers who helped fill their tills and posted grateful comments on Facebook. Hiking is good for mental health but hateful public comments are nasty. Will not use or recommend this place.
