One of the staff members was incredibly rude and seemed very angry at everyone, which ruined the visit.

In no way medieval. Which is good.

Used to love this Pub and went frequently. They now do not accept cash, I know it's the trend, but it's inconvenient. Staff, cold fish, toilets ,dirty food portions smaller at higher prices. Structurally, it's quite a nice pub

We return here every once and a while, and when we do we, remember why! The team and food are absolutely next level beats!! Thanks for your hospitality Castle Pub!! The sweet potato and pardon pepper starters were the best in a long time! The meats in our rump steak, pie and monkfish curry were tender, succulent and done to perfection!! Great quality all around!!

Lovely atmosphere, a great family vibe, too. We arrived late ish in the day, Sunday around 4ish, roasts were running low ...pork gone. We had chicken and beef. Nice food except potatoes tasted and felt like they hadn't been par boiled first so not fluffy and crispy, just hard and a touch earthy. Oh, and I got 1 piece of carrot (not a whole one)... just one piece 😄. Undecided as to whether we'd return.

Really good Sunday roast and the staff were great as I had accidentally booked Monday. Definitely go back.

Some of the staff treat customers with nasty contempt and are unprofessional. *The barman bad mouthed and insulted a group of five year olds having some chips after school and being too loud. It was a Monday afternoon and near-empty pub. *He also complained that the mums were being picky for asking for gluten free bread. *He passively aggressively grumbled to colleagues about this solidly for 45 minutes. He did this within earshot of other customers, which is incredibly unprofessional. *What he didn't realise was I was the dad of some of the kids doing work emails at the bar, and my wife was asking for a small change to her order because one of the kids asked. He made all these comments in front of me. *When he discovered the fact I was the dad to some of the kids, he passively aggressively skulked around me despite me giving him the benefit of the doubt of not saying anything to him.

I came here for Sunday roast with some friends and their baby. It was very busy, which also meant it was quite loud. The service was fine and friendly. Food was ok. It was a little bland we all seemed to need extra salt, but despite being a well done roast beef it was still very tender. They did diced parsnips, which I did not enjoy at all and sadly the roast potatoes were dry. But the other trimmings were fine. I would highly recommend booking a table in advance if you want to guarantee a seat. It's located on a residential road and has a little bit of seating outside.

Nice pub with friendly staff but the food has gone downhill considerably which is a shame.

Really nice pub, full of atmosphere. Nice pianist playing. The only downside was that it was so loud there that chatting was difficult.

Great pub, didn't eat but the food I saw go past looked delicious. Especially on weekends, it's a foodie pub, so not much room for social drinks as every table's taken. But a busy pub is better than a dead quiet one, anyway. Staff are ace.

The staff are really sweet here, but the roast was one of the worst I’ve eaten in London. They had done a good job with the pork but the vegetables were horrid! Parsnips and broccoli were basically raw, with no flavour. And I honestly don’t know what they even did to the potatoes to make them taste like that - unbelievably dry and crumbly, the most bizarre texture. The biggest kick is the fact that they charge £1.50 for an extra ‘jug’ of gravy. This thing was basically a thimble filled by a quarter. That plus the £19.50 that the roast cost left a bitter taste. Won’t be going back I’m afraid. Also it’s pretty much a crèche in there…not a vibe..

Great vibes and a pretty decent roast

Honestly, this isn’t really a pub, or even a gastro pub. The Castle has decided that the people it most wishes to serve are parents of children aged 0-12 who are free to let their kids entirely dominate the experience of everyone else. No level of screaming is too much. It’s like soft-play but with beer and roast dinners. If that’s your vibe, The Castle is the place for you.

Just discovered this place. Can’t wait to return. Vibe and decor were awesome. Food looked incredible.

Before the mini holland set up you could sit outside and imagine that you were actually somewhere peaceful ,thats all gone, the area is now called the villarge, or the zoo,if you wear rose tinted glasses it's paradise, the real locals now call it the fools paradise. But let's get back to the review, ok the gastro crèche is now full of Screaming ferrule kid's that parent the parents. Parents that shouldn't even be parents because there to self righteous ,if you ask them politely to control there ferrule brat kid's, like there ferrule brat kids they throw there toy's out of there pram, really selfish self righteous people, go there when it's quite superb as soon as the righteous selfish arrive time to leave. They have no consideration for others, Thankfully the other local pubs have realised that they don't need these type of clientele and Thankfully put restrictions on ferrule families. Hopefully once the pied pipper comes back the world will be good again. Keep smiling life's good 👍 Good luck say it as you see it ,ok the truth hurts, wait until they get older ,karma be upon you xx.

Great pub and friendly staff. We had the Sunday roast beef. The beef was tender and delicious, veg a little too under done but better than over cooked! Could have done with a few more potatoes but I'm probably just being greedy! Overall, a lovely roast and will definitely go again!

Beautiful and lovely pub with great staff, maybe too many kids sometimes. We went for a simple burger and fries and the food was only average. Good for groups and if you do not mind the kindergarden effect.

Good Beer, bit pricey & limited range. Food quite good. Again a small range but did include both veggie and no- veggie.

Great little find. We booked for a family Sunday lunch. Great service, great food, and well priced. What more can you as for! They also allow dogs which was good for us.

Birthday lunch with friends very enjoyable - until children started arriving early afternoon as schools had broken up. Their excited holiday chatter was too loud so we moved on.

I went to the castle for a roast with my friends. It had a cosy Christmassy feel with the tree up and the candles on the table. The food service was fast despite being busy. The food was delicious! Only set back was that the veggie gravy was mushroom based which I didn't like but others might!

Decent pub, good drinks, great cozy atmosphere. Food menu looks good. Can recommend the jerk chicken main, padron pepper starters but do not recommend the cauliflower fritters. Unfortunately over cooked and generally bland. Next time will try the veggie burger option.

Had a superb roast dinner, weekend just gone. I had the pork and it was cooked to perfection. The pub had a lively atmosphere and very helpful friendly staff, a special mention for Cali who looked after us so well, her customer service is superb.

Relaxed, classy neighbour hood pub with garden and table outside at the front. In the charming village that is Walthamstow. Well worth a visit for the setting and ambience alone.

Had one of the best beef roasts I've had in a long time here on Sunday, highly recommend, great atmosphere and right in the heart of Walthamstow village.

Good roast and wine in a relaxing environment (apart from the odd wailing Walthamstow baby) with a couple of delicious cocktails.

Interesting changing menu. My second time here and enjoyed both. Gets busy at weekends and popular with families. Perhaps too many children for me to appreciate but an excellent venue during the week.

Very good roast for 17quid...nice flavour, crispy potatoes and 2 of us could not finish meal. Roast chicken portion was small and stuffing not that tasty but rest spot on. Busy. Good service and they were accommodating despite being very full. Would go again.

Decent food and beer but too many kids there at all hours. Seems to be a common problem in Walthamstow

Went for Sunday lunch and despite the sign saying the kitchens were open was told they had closed until 5. No worries, I'll come back later. Came back after 5 to be told the kitchens were now open but they aren't now doing roasts. Useless.

So whilst I think the castle is a lovely place to visit when it’s quiet, on a Friday evening and Saturday that we have visited the place, it is absolutely taken over by mums and dads and their kids running around and invading other peoples spaces. I love kids so don’t get me wrong but when I am sitting down at a local pub for a drink with my other half and dog and my table is being surrounded by literally screaming children running around my table and parents plonking their drinks on my table etc without asking I feel I won’t come back. This seems a little invasive.

Too many mums and toddlers on the day I visited. More a family pub. Not somewhere I'll visit again.

We had American friends visiting so there were 7 adults and 2 children! Our waiter was superb and extremely helpful ! The food was absolutely delicious and when I looked around the table after our meal ,every plate was clean !!!! Fantastic pub and will not hesitate to visit again! Excellent value for money too! Beer was fine. The only real problem was the amount of children. It felt more like a crèche then a pub. I probably won’t bother with this place again I’ll leave it to kids

Went on a Sunday and it’s like being in a crèche. They ran out of all roasts apart from veggie. Another trip on a week day and had an incredibly average burger. Very disappointing. Terrible selection of beer. One of the only pubs who seem oblivious to the craft beer revolution. Decent traditional pub decor. Probs busy for lack of alternatives or competition. Fine but could be so much better.

This place has always been nice but my recent visit the food really stood out. The Jerk chicken was lovely. Not sure if they changed the recipe, as I am sure last time I had it, it was good but it was that good.

Great local pub with excellent food

This was our first visit to this traditional pub and we had a very good meal. Inside the atmosphere was pleasant and staff were friendly and helpful. We were a party of four adults and one child and we all ordered different meals, jerk chicken, steak and ale pie, lentil and quinoa salad etc., all were good, well cooked and presented. Drink prices were reasonable, bottle of decent red £25.00, food prices also we thought very acceptable. Will definitely return when back in the area.

£6.5 for a pint !? SHOCKED It looks nice and promising but everything we experienced was opposite. There are so many nice micro brewery in E17 now, really no point to come here. Today we passed by for first time, thought it's a nice venue, chill village atmosphere. Therefore decided to have a go, however, was surprised by the price and staff unfriendly attitude, somehow feel they don't care about this pub, the service.

Friendly staff, great bar area and dog friendly

Chilly Sunday afternoon, 4 of us headed done to The Castle for a roast. Quick service straight away, drink on table in under 5 minutes. Spot on. All 4 ordered roast: chicken, 2 pork and 1 beef. Slightly smaller portion than I was expecting, and no gravy on the side, just what you were given which was a little too thin for my liking, but tasted ok. We all enjoyed the food and the drinks and deserts came around and they were good too, no complaints really. I had the cheese for desert and they gave me tons of crackers and loads of cheese - an excellent portion of cheese and great value. I like this place a lot - think it could do with some minor improvements but strong Sunday roast.

I had just bought a takeaway pizza when a friend called me to meet at the castle. We sat outside with some pints and a minute later a barman came out and told us told us we couldn't eat there. So we put the pizza away. Moments later he brought out some plastic cups and literally stood over us until we decanted our drinks and left the table. I've never experienced such bizarre, aggressive and unwelcoming behavior from staff at a pub in London. Goes without saying I won't be going back.

Cosy pub good service and good food

Very welcoming, calm and laid back pub. Ideal destination for new mums with young toddlers,who still want to meet at the pub. Then a visit to the castle during day time is a must.
