Become a favourite pub since reopening. Stopped for food last year whilst walking the entire Cromford Canal. was great to see Darren on the bar. He ran my local many years ago and was covering. Always great service The food filled me up for the walk to langley mill. And also had lunch with my grandparents. Big thanks to all the wonderful staff who make this one of the areas best pubs

Beautiful fresh meals prepared to order. Some classic options like fish and chips and other unique twists in classics. Well worth a short detour on the way to Cromford or Matlock

Decided to try the Canal Inn for a birthday meal on a Sunday whilst staying locally on holiday. All 3 of us chose the roast pork which was delicious a very reasonable price. Nice surroundings good service. Would recommend booking.

Food was excellent. Hubby's fish and chips were amazing. He said the were the best chips he'd had in a long time. Very attentive service from the barman who did a great job managing the bar and food service. Definitely a great find.

Massively impressed by the room I stayed in for the price paid, very recently renovated. Also taken up to room by attentive staff. Although it's a local pub it quietened down towards evening and no difficulty sleeping. More like a hotel with a bar in some respects. Would certainly consider again.

A big disappointment. The inn is quite dark inside and the staff didn't seem to be bothered about their customers. I had a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich and fries. The bread was stale. My friend had the fish and chips and left half off hers We won't be returning

The pub itself is really nice, it's got clean facilities and a nice beer garden at the back. We usually go there regularly on Thursdays, because of the pizza night: pizza + pint for £11. The quality of the pizza for the price you pay is amazing. Staff is always super friendly and accommodating. We have already taken multiple friends there and we recommend it to everyone.

Our first stay but not our last, the rooms excellent and location. The food and atmosphere great, and Brandon and the team made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back soon.

A pretty quiet pub which suited us well as we had three meals here. Food was delicious 😋 and reasonably priced too.

Rooms are great - large, comfortable, clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Bar food in evening is great for taste, quality and price. Breakfast needs improvement for 5* - maybe more choice, eggs werent great over 2 days.

My wife and I had lunch here yesterday with our three year old grandson. My grandson had the kids fish and chips, and you kindly provided the mushy peas that he asked for in preference to the garden peas. It was substantial. My wife also had the fish and chips, which was delicious and huge. I had the sausages and mash. The sausages were gorgeous and cooked to perfection.

After booking a table which we didn't have to do and buying a drink we ordered some food to be told there was a 40 minute wait why couldn't they have said when we arksd for a menu will not be going back there.And by the way we ant fussy people by no means the pub seem to be something it's not .

Stayed here last night whilst working away. I always book last minute as never know where my day will end. This place is an absolute gem! Amazing staff, room and food. Will definitely return!

What a great find! Recent modernisation delivers clean fresh rooms and bathrooms.Staff are all delightful and really switched on. Food is plentiful, tasty and well presented. In the area the Great British Car Journey and the Crich Tramway Museum are both excellent. Definitely one to revisit.

Stopped here on way home from Matlock and found the young staff very welcoming. Place looks new and modern. Food a bit slow to arrive but they were busy and they did warn us. We all enjoyed the food and good value for the money. Would of liked a slice of pineapple with my gammon though 😀

Booked our table for 2 for 7.30pm eventually got served with food at 8.30.. mainly due to just having just one girl maning the bar and bringing out food, poor girl looked so stressed. Husband ordered fish and chips which was massive, but unfortunately it was not cooked in the middle, sort of like a grey mush. I ordered chicken and mushroom pie, it was sort of a puka pie with a very hard pastry which was hard to cut into. Needless to say we left more than we ate. It's a pity because the pub is very local to us, but will not be going again. Sorry.

An excellent selection of beers. The food was well cooked and presented. Making it the perfect Sunday lunch after a 10 mile walk in the peak district.

Nice dog friendly pub friendly staff nice food

It is a lovely place where you can enjoy a chilling holiday. Stuff is nice, breakfast was tasty, and the room was spacious and comfortable. Everything in the room was well organized until the smallest detail. We will return definitely, I recommend the place!

The barman was very helpful and polite. The food was beautiful and very reasonably priced. We had the Christmas menu and it was beautiful, thank you. The barman even suggested the best lagers for us to choose from.

Very hospitable,excellent room and spot on full English, Definitely my 1st choice to stay locally in future.

Fantastic Inn, staff were brilliant and friendly. Food was amazing, and the room I stayed in was very modern and probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Highly recommend if you're ever in ambergate to stay here.

Stopped here on an off chance looking for somewhere to eat, happened to be Pizza and a pint night. Ordered three Pizzas to share across the family and they were nicely made (stone baked). There was no table service, it was a case of ordering at the bar, we just felt although the food was pretty good, the service wasn't quite on par just the minimal and not overly welcoming style. Won't be back in a hurry as it just came across as "ok" nothing special, there are much better places to go in the area.

The pre-bridal suite was fantastic, lots of space for me & my bridesmaids. Really beautiful hamper full of goodies (face masks, toiletries & snacks). Really huge comfy bed, gorgeous bathroom with walk-in shower & separate bath! Air-con an absolute god send! Special shout out to Ryan & his partner (sorry I can’t remember your name) who both worked on the bar at the Canal the night before I got married and then at the Hurt arms during my wedding. The pizza & pint on Thursday evening was great value for money, super tasty & fresh ingredients. Excellent service. Friday morning the day of the wedding breakfast was served in lovely hampers to the room so we didn’t have to worry about getting dressed when make-up & hair started at 6am. Thank you, Thank You again to all at the Canal!!

Breakfast service non existent no fault of the only guy available trying to cope, room 2 very small, bathroom similar ,headroom going into room if your over 6 foot non existent due to boxing housing a/c unit which we never got working, very overpriced at £150 a night for what we got felt as we part of a wedding party at the hurt arms we taken advantage of

Beautiful room and a great size, comfortable bed, air conditioning which was a godsend!!!, tea and coffee making facilities, lovely bathroom and shower but could benefit from a shelf for toiletries. The breakfast experience however was a different story. No signage indicating where to eat, no tables set for breakfast, limited menu, no cereal available, no pastries, no orange juice which I feel is a basic, pot of tea given after being there 10 mins despite only 1 other couple being in which was finished before breakfast arrived as we waited 40 mins. Bacon overdone, tomato not done enough, more sauce in the beans than beans, slice of toast came on the plate with no butter, no salt or sauces available. Lots of things need attention when charging £150 per night. Despite the room being spot on and having a decent nights sleep, very overpriced

Been before for an odd pint and always good and trying hard. Tonight we called in and they happened to have one of their bargain small plate offers on. It's like Tapas where you get small dishes for a set amount or you can order a pizza and a pint for £11. Absolutely ace. Food was lovely, staff were friendly, let me try the beers before purchase and they were also lovely. Toilets were very clean and pleasant and footy on the telly. Top pub.

great little pub with good value for money menu!

Everything was great. The food was delicious. The only negative I have is that the tables are sticky, and they were cleaned prior to us sitting down. Maybe it's the cleaner they use. Other than that.... lovely.

Me and my friend went here for a bite to eat over drinks to catch up. The food was lovely , not really much choice other than tapas style menu, however we weren’t fussy as it was still all very lovely, it did seem a little rushed, we were sat about about 5 mins before they came and asked to take the order, there was hardly anyone else in there which I found strange that you wanted to rush us getting the order when it was empty. We did stay for a while after and enjoyed Prosecco and wine which again was really nice, I would definitely come again but just for drinks. 🙂.

Highly recommend , what a stunning room, extremely clean ! very nicely kitted out. Amazing shower , very comfy bed. With the benefit of air conditioning in the room, coffee making facilities with large cups just perfect after a long day. Staff were amazing, carried my suitcase to to my room for me just lovely. This one is going on the must return list. 👍

It's alright, nothing much to shout about, had a refurb and has new guest bedrooms. Bit lacking in atmosphere. Couldn't really work out what it was trying to be. Food was reasonable, pint of lager was as you would expect. Wasn't too enamoured with the choice of beer.

Didn't stay - if my dogs are restricted to outside, then I'm probably no more welcome!

took the family for Sunday dinner, mother's Day. wish we had gone somewhere else! Three roast dinners and a vegetarian option for my daughter. when they placed my dinner before me I couldn't help saying, "is that it?" "Is there any more to come?" We did discover two small roast potatoes hiding under the Yorkshire. and a few stands of cabbage. To be fair they did bring me some more potatoes and kindly informed me that I wouldn't be charged for! If I'm paying fifteen quid for a meal I would expect it to include a sufficient quantity in the first place. The meat was thinly sliced roast beef. It looked like something you would buy in a supermarket. Iceland maybe? When I cook roast beef at home I leave a joint slow rotating for six or seven hours. Sometimes more. it doesn't slice nicely but it does taste good. this didn't. One more thing, don't try their home brewed beer. I like beer that tastes like beer. I don't want a craft/artisan beer with subtle hints of lavender cinnamon/whatever! Sorry to be so critical, they were friendly and I'm sure they were trying their best. just not to my liking.

Went here today as couldn't get a table at the Hurt Arms. Having read some negative reviews I was a bit worried about the experience we may have. All I can say is IGNORE any negative reviews. The venue is great, staff excellent, ambience was lovely and most importantly the food was amazing. Yes the menu is limited but that is due to storage issues as it is a small venue. The Sunday Dinners were immense, the gammon was great and I can't fault it at all. We will certainly be back and a lot in the summer as there is ample outdoor seating. Hidden gem 💎

Went for a family birthday meal on one of the pizza nights. Pizzas were really good, we had a few sides as well which were equally tasty. Great value for money too. We were impressed with the pubs own selection of ales as well. Very happy with the staff, friendly, relaxed and welcoming. Really glad to see this pub reopen as it’s quite local to us, look forward to going again soon.

Lovely little pub in the middle of Old and New housing estate just been refurbished lovely rooms and food enjoyed the dinner and breakfast we just stayed 1 night but lovely and staff were great thank you!

One person front of house, took 1hr 20 for 2 pizzas. Not even busy, no napkins, wasn't asked if we enjoyed food and no apology for the long waiting time. Nice food but not worth the extremely long wait. A customer even helped bring plates into a kitchen for the guy working!!! Emailed, and shock no reply. Really poor service

How can they promote pizza and pint nights and have 1 bar staff running around like a headless chicken with no help. Get some staff or lose customers
