The Bull at Towcester in South Northamptonshire

Being mothers day it all seemed a disarray. Lots of staff that looked like the didn't what to do, no welcome from any staff, no eye contact, only had about 6 tables eating. Not the greatest

We held my mother's wake in the back room the food and service was second to none can't thank enough

We had a reduced menu but it wasn't an issue - the food was delicious. There was not one other table of the restaurant being used but it did mean my date and I could hear each other.

Great service and good food. We were a large party for a birthday and they got all the food out to us at once. Very tasty and great value.

Whilst driving around Towcester today we came across the bull. So pleased we did. We received a lovely welcome, the pub was warm and comfortable, the food was excellent. So much so we have booked to go again next week. Highly recommend this establishment.

This was the second time we had been recently,the staff were pleasant enough but on both occasions were lacking service skills,we waited over an hour for our roast dinners on a Sunday!we were repeatedly told that our meal would be about three minutes!3/4 of an hour later food arrived,wrong order!given complementary yorkhire puddings to placate,but we had already stated when ordering that they were not required!it wasn't until the bar manager asked us if we were still waiting that suddenly this started to move,possibly our order had been mislaid!!!!!

Lovely pub came and visited Towcester which I do some times has I was brought up there this pub has got lovely decor and friendly bar staff and certainly will be visiting again I couldn't rate the food as I didn't eat at this lovely establishment but I'm sure it would be very good its a pity they don't have more pubs like this gem in Northampton

The Bull is under new management so we popped in for lunch to check it out. What can I say Chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich was amazing and the chips that came with it were to die for. Highly recommended well worth a visit.

Brilliant restaurant, booked by my other half for a birthday meal, beef was cooked to perfection, lovely chef who took the time to speak to us after the meal. Would happily dine here again.

What a fabulous pub with incredible food. Visited last night with a friend and was blown away by the quality of the food. I had scallops to start followed by mushroom and truffle oil risotto and both were truly delightful. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to go back.

Visited once so far, pleasant atmosphere. We didn't eat there on this occasion, but look forward to doing so in the future.

Myself and partner just had a super lovely meal here. Chicken wings and fillet steak. Both scrumptious 😋. Service from Nicky was marvellous, very friendly , funny and welcoming. Would recommend.

First visit since under new ownership. Had an amazing Sunday roast dinner, the food had so much flavour and was the perfect portion size. Staff were attentive and friendly. Will definitely return!

Local with potential, but some kinks to iron out… Visited The Bull on Sunday 10th September 2023 for lunch, wanting to check it out as it had recently changed hands and included a bouncy castle and play area for the kids - a major bonus in this weather and one of the only places in the centre of Towcester to have something like this. The menu looked good, with a Sunday lunch offering. If I were being picky as one of the first ‘touch points’ I’d prefer the menus were printed on higher quality paper rather than just being handed a dog-eared piece of A4! Service was slow and inconsistent - we had to ask three different people for sauce. We were offered Yorkshire puddings with our meals as an upsell and these failed to materialise… but were on the bill, suggesting some communication issues between FOH and the kitchen. Whilst the food itself was reasonably tasty, much was not as offered on the menu - I had what was meant to be pork shoulder that turned out to be belly with some very rubbery ‘crackling’ that was effectively still rind. My wife had what was meant to be a rolled cut of lamb that came out as carved leg. The side of veg was pretty standard steamed veg. I wouldn’t go back exclusively for the food or service, but the play equipment for the kids is a big selling point, provided you’re happy to wait a while for your order while you sit in the garden! I think much of this is easy to sort out - better training of staff, getting a bit slicker in putting checks through to the kitchen, and probably better staggering of bookings (esp tables with 6+ covers) to help smooth demand out for the kitchen. I’d personally rather see a simplified drinks menu offering (eg no cocktails) and even a simpler food menu that focusses on quality and consistency , and will help the FOH staff too.

I went with party of 14 last week. The food was brilliant; clean plates all round, which says it all. The service was fantastic; certainly reached my expectations. I would recommend this pub for a good evening out. Well done Niki and thank you.

Never been to the Bull before but heard it was quite good since changing hands. Came for Sunday lunch. Food was really good, service was very good. Was quite impressed. The 2 girls serving were very good and did a great job!

Came here tonight to try as it’s got new owners. Not impressed at all. The Calamari was chewy like elastic bands (obviously frozen) we had 3 rings for £8.95! Totally over priced and not pleasant at all. The steak was full of sinue and couldn’t cut it. It was rump so I expected it to be not that tender, but it wasn’t good at all. The mushroom and Stilton sauce was lovely though. The service was very mediocre, the waitresses could smile a bit more, so wasn’t very welcoming. The lady behind the bar was nice enough… such a shame as we had higher hopes. Doubt we will be back. The garden is a lovely size, everything else is lacking unfortunately 😢

Not much choice on the menu and over priced.

Lovely roast dinner for Sunday lunch. Had the pork belly, very nice of slightly chewy. Roast potatoes and veg were lovely and the setting and decor was lovely too.

The food was good, with excellent service. As it was a Monday there was an offer of 25% discount on the food which was an added bonus, not sure how long the offer will continue. We will definitely go again.

Highly recommend food is amazing mac n cheese is to die for. cocktails are so good and are priced accordingly staff are attentive and well mannered they made me feel very welcome the atmosphere is very warm and homely leah and emily were very helpfull love the place

Never really been here before it has just changed hands as never appealed, but the food is fantastic , and has now become our regular eatery, especially as on a Monday they offer 25% off the food bill, the fillet steak is Beautiful & cooked to perfection, also they make a great strawberry daiquiri

Overcooked food, everything is burnt. Vinegar has bits in. Very overpriced for the quality. Would not recommend!!

Miserable unfriendly staff and owners

I want to contextualize Google's idea that this pub is '££'. For example, fish and chips will set you back 20 quid. (You certainly get a square meal, I think the staff were being generous.) So, do not go in there expecting chain prices; probably it's an independent. It's quite unfair that Google could be sending people in with the wrong expectations. This place is for people who like their eating out and aren't on a tight budget. For that audience I think it will do fine.

Been here several times and the food is just amazing. Staff are always so helpful and friendly.

I would never visit again started with children being wheeled inand out of the kitchen then a cold meal of burnt fish and the most disgusting chips I have any tasted the gammon was salty for nearly £40 I am sure they could do better !!

Had beef stoganoffe more mushrooms than beef & no sign of onion and very bland .

Lovely set up, great garden if you have a young family. My glass had lipstick on it, it was changed when asked. We ordered for 12 people and I would not return here for food. The pizza was so wet from the amount of mozzarella, there was nothing on it when picked up just a soggy base. They made a new one and it was better. The child’s menu should be just that. The chips were covered in rock salt, which isn’t okay for small children, the mash stated on the menu mash, not mash with garlic, cheese and salt. The adults chips had far too much salt on and ruined the food. The halloumi chips came out burnt to a crisp, they re cooked fresh and they were better but come with no dip! I would absolutely visit for a drink, but would not return here for food.

It's a pub. If you're looking for a decent drink and a good atmosphere then the Bull has that covered. But there is more, much more. A friendly and helpful team offering excellent service and food to match. They sure know how to use their pizza oven and a great range of options are available. Homemade burgers are stunning and if you think you've eaten enough, think again and try one if the Bull's handmade ice creams. For the quality and service, prices very reasonable indeed

This is a lovely family run modern country pub, serving excellent food, with the added bonus of a pizza oven, I didn't try one but they looked amazing! The menu is very accommodating and has an excellent variety of food. I really enjoy my meal here and would recommend a visit to couples, families and groups of friends. I will be going back very soon.

Our hotel restaurant was closed for the evening so headed into Towcester, we had booked and were greeted by a young friendly member of staff who showed us to our table. We were sat next to a wood fired pizza oven and looked over the menu which had something for everyone's taste, I had the prawn and crayfish starter which was presented in a magnificent metal crab 🦀 then followed by the ribs and my wife had the gammon and son the pizza. The ribs were to die for and had definitely been cooked with love, the gammon was extremely tasty and pizza amazing. Homemade chips and onion rings were the crowning jewels on a great meal 😋 not forgetting the sticky toffee pudding with Homemade ice cream. Bill for all this with 5 drinks was under £90 so great value for money.

Lovely well decorated venue. Food choice was great and quantity and quality were superb. The staff were incredibly helpful (especially Mia) Would definitely eat here again if we didn't live so far away.

A nice environment to have drinks at and nice food from what I've heard, but the customer service was never very fast as we found ourselves often waiting ages for drinks. This is more than likely down to a lack of staff.

The food here was delicious and plentiful. The staff where extremely helpful. Cannot fault a single thing. I could not eat all of my food and asked for a box to take some home and this was not a problem. The portion size would have given Eddie Hall a run for his money. Well worth every penny 👌

Food was okay but fish was off bad taste And smell upon mentioning this to 2 waitresses I had to then call. over the owner manager but still didn't seem to be worried shame as it's a nice pub

Arrived, followed the rules, and then waited for fifteen minutes after ringing the bell, before asking a passing server if we could order. We were told, rather sniffly, to ring the bell - and after confirming we had, was told to ring out again. No offer of help. We rang again. Another ten minutes went by, as did several servers. Still, no service. So we left. Shame, because the beer was good the evening before, and there were fewer customers around.

Cracking food and very generous portions served with great service by Claire and the team. The pizza is a particular highlight, is the best I've ever eaten in this country and is the closest to a proper Neapolitan style I've had outside of Italy!

Must admit the food is incredible , we had a stake and ale pie and a BBQ burger and it was really really good. But the shocking service makes me reduce the stars ... We waited 20 minutes for a coke and Corona, then 30 minutes from our arrival we had the starter ....aftrer that the mains arrived but had to ask for cutlery and two more drinks but we finished our food and another 10 minutes later our inks arrived, and they were wrong. You can just see the waiters are just roaming around aimlessly.

The pizza bangs! And it hardy took 10 minutes for the food to arrive! Amazing little spot!

Wow just been for our dad's 71st birthday and omg was amazing, the food was huge and to die for Soooo tasty, our lady waitress was fantastic, so attentive, kept our glasses full, and was just lovely, 1st here and will 100% be back regularly. Been a long time since I've eaten out and has been 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Having not had a takeaway for 2 weeks due to lockdown we ordered a USA and Wakiki pizza. The pizzas were perfectly cooked and the ingredients fantastic quality. They were ready so quickly too 10 minutes from phone call to order to collection. We will definitely be ordering again very soon and look forward to eating in house as soon as lockdown is lifted!
