Staying at Hilton at Silverstone and decided to pop in for something to eat Friday evening. Found staff to be very friendly and service good. Son and I ordered a pizza each, which were excellent.

First time experience at The Bull. I believe its now under new management and we decided to try the Sunday carvery. We were not disappointed. Friendly staff who explained everything and served with a smile. The food was very generous and very tasty. We will definitely return again for this delicious feast. Carvery is served 7 days a week. It will not disappoint you.

We stopped here on a long road trip between Yorkshire and Dorset with a 4 year old just in time for tea. We are always reluctant to go for McDonald's/KFC on route because our son hates chips and always asks for veg. I did a bit of googling and The Bull popped up as doing a carvery everyday. I was surprised when I walked in, it was very very quiet and on a Friday night too. I was very pleased to hear the carvery was still on and after I finalised my order, realised a fresh dinner was only going to be £22 all in including drinks. There was a choice of three meats which all looked very appealing. I opted for beef which was succulent and juicy, and a nice pink in the middle (just as it should be), and was given a good range of accompanying dishes. The cauliflower cheese stood out and was delicious. As well as the best Yorkshire Puddings I have seen outside of Yorkshire. I should know as a Yorkshire Lass! Would definitely recommend a visit for dinner. Very reasonably priced for the quality on offer.

Went to this pub by chance on a Sunday after visiting Silverstone Museum. Pub had changed management the day before and chef was new to the area, but staff were friendly and welcoming and the carvery was excellent, with good choices of meat and fresh vegetables (that hadn’t been cooked to death, unlike at certain T@by carvery offerings). Good luck to new management on serving up a good meal so soon after taking over!

We had a lovely carvery at the bull there was a good choice of meat and plenty off vegetables. All cooked to a great standard. Was disappointed that there was no ros'e wine, or no alcohol free beer. Also the pub only had one wine glass in the whole of the pub. Which ment I had to have my wine in a big gin glass, which make the wine taste different. The gentleman that carved the meat was very friendly and chatty, but the rest of the bar staff were very quiet and didn't seem to know what they were doing. But overall we had a lovely meal and time. Would go again.

This is one of the worst Pub l have been. I was told that there was Calvary meal but it didn’t have any of the meats but except Gammon . I spent almost £35 for two on cavalry meal that only had gammon. The gammon was very salty , l am very much to believe they added so much salt on the gammon during their preparation. When l made a complaint about the food , l was told that they needed to phone the owner to give me a refund . After a while , l had to again the bar tender about the outcome of the phone call , they gave me an excuse. Please DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB. If you ever do after getting this reading this review , l would warn take with yourself a vomitting bag .

Wow that knocked me sideways !! My family and I have just had a Sunday Carvery. We got there around 3pm (apparently Carvery open until 6pm) and went for our food. My beef was absolutely buggered even the guy carving said the knife was blunt, my wife’s gammon was fat with a dash of gammon, my daughter’s turkey was ok. I am still waiting for the mash to appear !!!!!! The veg was ok , good job you had roast potatoes because there was no mash. 3 Carvery’s , 1 Pint of Coke, 1 Zinfandel Blush and 2 pints of beer all for the sum of £73.37 !!!! Let me tell you at The Bull we won’t be back absolute rip off and so disappointed. I paid in full because I will vote with my feet never to return.

Used to be a lovely place to eat, but not anymore it appears. We came in for a quick dinner and there was no one else sat down. With a two year old in tow we like to go and eat early to avoid disturbing others and so we don't have to wait long due to him being two he can become irritable quickly. we ordered and sat down, an hour and a half later still no food and no apology for the wait. When we ordered we werent told there would be a wait nor did we think there would be due to there being no one else eating ! we decided enough was enough and to ask for our money back and leave, we never found out why we were waiting so long ! They also had only carlsberg and guiness left on tap until Tuesday! (didn't bother us as we weren't drinking however over a hot weekend there are going to be some disappointed people! ) this is the third time we have tried to eat in there since they have been taken over and the first two times we were turned away as the kitchen was closed (again no explanation as to why) AVOID !

This is relatively local to us, so over the last 35 years or so, have seen The Bull transform from a simple wet-led drinking place through various iterations of restaurant offering. This review is, in a way, reflective of two visits - neither good. We originally visited a couple of weeks after the current change of owner and refurbishment and were shocked at the slow service and poor food but put this down to the newness of the team etc at the time. Thinking the time had come to give them another try, we booked a table for five - surely it must be better by now... Despite there being various tables in the main restaurant, we were somewhat bizarrely taken to the function room area, and shown to a table for eight, and then forgotten - no menus, no wine lists... nothing! When we did get menus, there was an extensive list of items that weren't available (at 19:15 on a Saturday) so we made our choices from the remaining limited options. First challenge - starter choices for three were suddenly also unavailable, so we made alternative choices - only one portion of the alternative, the others had less luck. Drinks order - hardly difficult at a bottle of wine, a jug of water, a coke and a glass of wine... well, it would have been easy had they remembered to bring it to the table... Main courses eventually appeared at 21:10 with an apology that they only had one chef as the other had 'walked out' yesterday. The place wasn't busy (witness the spare tables that we could have had in the (warm) restaurant) so not too sure what the issue had been, other than complete lack of effective management. I think it will take another change of owner before we try to spend more money in The Bull...

Local with potential, but some kinks to iron out… Visited The Bull on Sunday 10th September 2023 for lunch, wanting to check it out as it had recently changed hands and included a bouncy castle and play area for the kids - a major bonus in this weather and one of the only places in the centre of Towcester to have something like this. The menu looked good, with a Sunday lunch offering. If I were being picky as one of the first ‘touch points’ I’d prefer the menus were printed on higher quality paper rather than just being handed a dog-eared piece of A4! Service was slow and inconsistent - we had to ask three different people for sauce. We were offered Yorkshire puddings with our meals as an upsell and these failed to materialise… but were on the bill, suggesting some communication issues between FOH and the kitchen. Whilst the food itself was reasonably tasty, much was not as offered on the menu - I had what was meant to be pork shoulder that turned out to be belly with some very rubbery ‘crackling’ that was effectively still rind. My wife had what was meant to be a rolled cut of lamb that came out as carved leg. The side of veg was pretty standard steamed veg. I wouldn’t go back exclusively for the food or service, but the play equipment for the kids is a big selling point, provided you’re happy to wait a while for your order while you sit in the garden! I think much of this is easy to sort out - better training of staff, getting a bit slicker in putting checks through to the kitchen, and probably better staggering of bookings (esp tables with 6+ covers) to help smooth demand out for the kitchen. I’d personally rather see a simplified drinks menu offering (eg no cocktails) and even a simpler food menu that focusses on quality and consistency , and will help the FOH staff too.

Totally over priced and not pleasant at all. The steak was full of sinue and couldn’t cut it. It was rump so I expected it to be not that tender, but it wasn’t good at all. The mushroom and Stilton sauce was lovely though. The service was very mediocre, the waitresses could smile a bit more, so wasn’t very welcoming. I want to contextualize Google's idea that this pub is '££'. For example, fish and chips will set you back 20 quid. (You certainly get a square meal, I think the staff were being generous.) So, do not go in there expecting chain prices; probably it's an independent. It's quite unfair that Google could be sending people in with the wrong expectations. This place is for people who like their eating out and aren't on a tight budget. For that audience I think it will do fine.

Lovely set up, great garden if you have a young family. My glass had lipstick on it, it was changed when asked. We ordered for 12 people and I would not return here for food. The pizza was so wet from the amount of mozzarella, there was nothing on it when picked up just a soggy base. They made a new one and it was better. The child’s menu should be just that. The chips were covered in rock salt, which isn’t okay for small children, the mash stated on the menu mash, not mash with garlic, cheese and salt. The adults chips had far too much salt on and ruined the food. The halloumi chips came out burnt to a crisp, they re cooked fresh and they were better but come with no dip! I would absolutely visit for a drink, but would not return here for food.

Our first visit here and we were pleasantly surprised. A lovely atmosphere, real cosy country pub which is a rarity to find these days. We both thoroughly enjoyed the main course exactly what you would expect. What lacked ever so slightly was the service, the minute you asked someone over they were polite and friendly, and they got what you needed, but what we would have liked was a little more attention, in other words, why not pop over and see us first? Check in and see if we need anything before we call you? This is more a training issue, awareness of your customer and could be easily addressed. It was not busy, and even if it was is that an excuse? Tweek this and it would be spot on 5 stars. Will we go back, definitely.

This place does not deserve its entry in the Extra Mile. Waited quite a while for a simple baked potato and cheese. The cheese was minimal - a dusting - and too much butter. No side salad or any accompanying food to enjoy. Just under £10. The mark up is huge - effectively 50p to buy ingredients. I mentioned the lack of cheese and my disappointment. Met with lack of interest and no apology or reaction by three staff.

We had high tea here, the place is gorgeous and the service was fabulous.. the food was let down by rock hard stale tasting scones, we had to return them, sadly they didn't have any left but without hesitation took some money off the bill. I'm not sure what went wrong today but given the competition in the area for similarly priced high teas I would be reviewing your scone provider and maybe warm them up to before serving..the devil is in the detail. Otherwise we had a lovely time..not sure I could confidently recommend the high tea at this point though.

We came to the Royal Oak as a large group for a pre wedding celebration. The food was outstanding, great quality, amazing attention to detail, fresh, hot, tasty and big portions. Everyone enjoyed their meals and left feeling full. We felt extremely welcome and nothing was too much bother for them. Thank you for having us, we can’t wait to come back for a Sunday roast!

We`d just finished a Croughton circular walk, and needed "refreshment" afterwards. One of the locals said hello as we walked in. Staff were friendly, and there was Tribute, Wainwrights and Directors on tap. I went for the Directors, which was very good. The menu was on the wall, and was varied, lots of it homemade, and great value for money. Sadly, we`re quite a drive away, otherwise it would be become my local. Note to self: have a meal BEFORE going on Croughton circular walk.
