Another wonderful meal & evening at the Buck, lovely fresh food, service amazing, nothing too much trouble and lots of different gins to accompany our meal. Would highly recommend to couples, families or anyone who wants high quality food and drink at a fair price!

After a very long drive from Cornwall to Mid Wales, we went looking for a place to have dinner. The tiny village of Caersws has three pubs, without the shadow of doubt, in our opinion, this was the better of the three. We pre-booked out table, and a good job that we did, as the restaurant got very busy, with no spare tables. The food was of a very high standard, the waiting staff were experienced and served us well. We felt that some of our menu choices were a little on the expensive side. But all in all a good venue, and we would return.

Terrible puff pastry topping to the chicken ’pie’ which was expensive. The cake and cool coffee sort of made up.

Visited twice while staying the area, traditional village pub with great atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming from start to finish . The food is home cooked and good quality, can recommend the Sunday lunch which was belly busting and scrumptious . We will be returning for sure if back in the area 😁

Cannot recommend The Buck Hotel enough! From the first phone call when I tried to book a Mother’s Day lunch (a bit too last minute!) the excellent staff could not have been more helpful. They arranged a special table in the bar as they were already fully booked in the restaurant. When we arrived the table was beautifully laid in a quiet corner of the bar with plenty of space. The Mother’s Day menu offered plenty of choice and all the food was beautifully presented, tasted great and reasonably priced. The experience was made extra special by the constant attentive service of the excellent waiting staff. To top it off Mum was presented with a handmade gift at the end of the meal. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Enjoyed our evening out tonight. Food was good. Starter was a little light in quantity but still tasted good. (As per photo) mains were of a good size and good value. Staff were pleasant, we were the only people eating for most of the time we were there. Overall it was nice solid evening out.

We've just enjoyed a delicious, well cooked Sunday lunch. A last minute change of plan meant we thought we would try lunch here today and we shall be returning. We were made to feel very welcome although they were busy nothing seemed too much effort to make sure everyone was enjoying their meal. Definitely one of the best Sunday lunches we've had for a long time

Having previously eaten at the Buck Hotel we thought we would re-visit it now that it has re-opened. We were not disappointed the food was amazing, my partner said the ribs were the best he had ever had they just dropped off the bone, and my blade of beef was delicious. The dauphinoise potatoes were cooked to perfection and the gravy was really tasty. We were so impressed we ate there three times and was not disappointed with the level of service it was excellent. We met the chef who was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for him, he makes the most amazing food give it a try you will not be disappointed.

During the latter part of 2013, stayed overnight on three separate One Night Stays.Room comfortable and most important warm. Food main stream Pub Grub.......Only downside was the quality of the "real ales" thought they tried to offer to many, as a result quality below average .Owners and staff, always a pleasure to deal with.

We called in the Buck Hotel for Sunday lunch after my Brother recommended it to us.We were given a warm welcome by the lady serving the drinks .There was no room in the Restaurant but she kindly offered us a place to eat in the bar which was nice and cosy. The drinks were very reasonably priced and the beer was nice and cold.We ordered the beef and OMG! it was delicious the meat melted in your mouth the gravy was to die for and the Yorkshire pudding was homemade and a lovely texture, they even bought us a gravy boat out as we like lots of gravy.Whilst we were chatting to the staff she told us about their steak night we were so impressed with the Sunday dinner that we decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed the service was excellent and within a minute of sitting down in the spacious and cosy restaurant our food arrived and to be honest we were blown away by the quality of the food there was so much of it. I asked for a salad instead of the chips and they bought me a lovely bowl of mixed salad with spring onions tomatoes peppers etc, my partner who had the chips said they were the nicest chips he had ever eaten he was well happy. The steaks which we asked to be well done were perfectly cooked and juicy without being cremated the peppercorn sauce was lovely and tasty and the onion rings were perfectly cooked .We did not have room for desert but they looked Delicious.I can not wait to go back there and I highly recommend people giving this lovely hotel a try as it has such friendly welcoming staff and it really offered the best quality food I have tasted in ages.Try it you will not be disappointed !!!

We are local and it's a treat to be able to walk to this superb restaurant and pub in one. The food is of the highest quality and cooked with care and attention, local fresh ingredients are used. Fast food it's not, but when busy the wait is well worth it. We had a great evening with a good selection of wine to go with the meal.

To await the arrival of family travelling from Australia who had booked accommodation at The Buck Hotel, 14 of us decided to get together and Sunday lunch. With three young children and one vegetarian among our group, the service came well up to standard with a highchair provided for the littlest member of our group and nothing too much trouble. Although the kitchen had closed by the time our visitors arrived, they were provided with a snack on their arrival and we all spent the afternoon in The Buck Hotel acquainting ourselves with each other as Andy Murray won the Wimbledon Men's Singles Championship just to top off a lovely day.

This was our second visit to the Buck Hotel. We had tried to visit earlier in the week and discovered that they only do food on certain evenings. The pub has a typical local feel to it and we were given a warm welcome and we were told that the restaurant was closed but they were doing bar food. The beer was excellent as was the service. And the food arrived it was excellent with very large portions it's clearly a popular local place to eat. I highly recommend people giving this place a try as it offers excellent good quality and good value food.

Me, my partner and brother were attending a family wedding at a hotel down the road... We checked in. And the room was spotless. very comfortable bed! so was the other room my brother accompanied. Nice decor and very spacious. With a lovely view of the area. After settling and taking our bags we all went down stairs to the bar area. Very nice pub/bar with a dart table, pool table and juke box and big screen television... The drinks were very reasonable! Couldn't believe it! Very good beers and a small choice of wine.. Enjoyed a few games of pool and pre-wedding drinks. Sadly couldn't have a meal at night because of the function. After a good nights sleep we went for a lovely cooked breakfast a plate full! With cereal and plenty of tea and toast.. Check out was quick and simple with a lovely young lady who i presume was the management... All ready Planning another weekend away there for a birthday!Thank you Buck Hotel we will be back

A real open fire in the main bar area made the place feel immediately welcoming. We went as a family party of 9, which included 3 young children, for Sunday lunch. We had a warm cosy room for ourselves, which was great because we could relax and let the children enjoy themselves (though there were children in the other parts of the restaurant too and the place seemed very welcoming of children). The staff were all polite and helpful, the menu had a nice selection for starters, mains and desserts, the food was good and the desserts all home made. We all enjoyed our meal, the chocolate brownie served with chocolate sauce, berry coulis and ice cream got particualry high accolades!

We decided to book for Sunday lunch on the strength of the other reviews but we were disappointed overall. Th bar is very "pubby" but that didn't matter too much as we decided to go straight into the restaurant. The room looked very nice, well laid out so things were definitely looking up. We both ordered beef and asked what vegetables accompanied it, we were told there was a large selection, including beetroot so were pleased until the "beetroot" arrived as it was actually red cabbage! The beef was not the best cut but it was okay but the gravy was only luke warm. We were asked if our meals were alright and we both replied that they were okay but I feel that from the tone of my voice the waitress got the message that I wasn't too happy because she quickly returned to ask if there was anything she could do to improve the meal. I then confessed that the gravy was too cold and so she took it away. She returned with a fresh plate of meat, yorkshire pudding and gravy but by now the re were no vegetables left, apart from the red cabbage which I definitely did not want. She returned with more vegetables and I ate my meal. It was OKAY but not fantastic ... maybe I've been too spoiled at other venues as the last two Sunday lunches were at the Roast Ox at Painscastle and they were superb. The pudding was excellent, plum and almond tart with vanilla ice-cream ... although dare I say it but I think custard would have complimented it better. An okay experience but will be unlikely to follow it up. I have to say that the staff were extremely pleasant and really showed a desire to please but the kitchen let them down. Another black mark was the choice of wines, the only wine available by the glass was the house red ... which was drinkable ... but a choice would be better!

We had a group booking of 22 for a birthday celebration and it was absolutely lovely. The food was, once again, superb and everybody filled their bellies with quality fresh local food. We took over the whole of the restaurant, with two large tables, We decided to pre-order our meals after asking the chef to devise a menu that would suit all our individual tasted, and the whole meal was executed to perfection with all the little extra touches that sometimes get left out on a large group booking. Look forward to going again, and again, and again!

I visited The Buck on the 6th July 2012. My friend and I were looking for somewhere to have supper so we thought we'd try the Buck. We had not booked a table in the restaurant but, although it was a Friday evening we were fortunate to get a table. I have to say everything about the experience was fantastic. The staff were polite, the menu varied, the prices good and the general ambiance was very nice. Having ordered our meals we were shown to the restaurant. I opted for the sirloin steak, my friend ordered the duck. When the food arrived we were totally blown away, my steak which I had ordered medium rare was cooked perfectly, my friends duck was also cooked exactly as she had requested, crispy skin and slightly rare. To accompany our meat dishes we were served a selection of fresh vegetables which had been beautifully cooked, flavoursome with a slight bite. we were also served a bowl of home cooked chips which were lovely and new potatoes to accompany the duck. For desert we ordered just one pudding to share, have to say we were very naughty and ordered the chocolate brownie which came with a rich chocolate sauce , raspberry coulis and vanilla ice cream, again this was scrumptious.I would not hesitate to recommend The Buck to anyone in the area. I would give it a firm 10/10 and believe me I am a very fussy eater. Well done The buck, I look forward to my next visit.

We have been visiting The Drover's for around 25 years. As a full Family initially, now just the two of us. Peter and his Team never disappoint. The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. A good mixture of Walkers, Holiday makers and Locals. Thanks so much for everything over the years Peter. We're already in the process of booking next year's trip to Wales, so keep an eye out for an email soon!

Our first time here this morning. From the minute we walked in we was welcomed and seated. All staff were welcoming. Myself and fiancé ordered a full English, food was lovely not one fault and clear plates. I had a cappuccino which was tasty and perfect. We were approached and asked if everything was okay during our meal. We paid with cash and left a tip as we were very pleased. We will definitely be attending again on our next stay.

Great place to stay. A friend and I cycled to the area and stayed here overnight. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. The breakfast was also lovely. The location was great as it’s a 5 min walk from 2 good pubs and a post office/shop

Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.
