We popped in on a Monday night as all the pubs in the immediate area that we usually go to don’t open on a Monday We arrive at 5:30 opening time and were hardly greeted by Shannon We hadn’t booked, but she found us a table There was a lovely selection of beers and wines and an amazing menu with specials of the day On Mondays they do a night where you can get a sirloin steak for £12 with all the trimmings They also specialise in seafood and there were a number of dishes this included prawns lobsters, monkfish et cetera Who made soup of the day was courgette and sweet potato and this is delicious Between us, we had a steak and kidney pie and there’s also an option of a steak and kidney pudding and two of us had prawn and lobster Thermidor, which was delightful There is a very nice atmosphere in the restaurant. The staff are lovely and the toilets are clean. Thank you, Shannon to you and your colleagues and we very much look forward to our next physics

Absolutely awful service at this restaurant, but the food was pretty good, eventually. The facts: The waitress sat us down and gave us the menus. She didn't bother coming back, so after 30 minutes, we ordered at the bar via the barman. I had dietary requirements, and these were explained at the time of ordering, basically no wheat and no dairy on one of the meals. We waited another 25 mins (please note that there was no one else in the restaurant at this time, they other two couples had already left). The waitress then came out and asked us if we'd like anything else. We said we'd hadn't anything yet so no, we weren't ready to order anything else. She went to the kitchen and returned saying the food would be another 5 mins. Food arrived - we had been waiting an hour by this stage. I looked at mine and asked the waitress to check if there was any dairy in it, as it was supposed to be wheat and dairy free. She checked in the kitchen and there was indeed dairy on the meal. She said the chef wasn't told about the dairy and it would another 15 minutes for a correct meal to come out. We decided that I didn't mind what it was so long as it was a chicken breast with vegetables and no wheat or dairy on it. My partner had his meal which was ok but he ate it alone because I was still waiting for mine. Mine arrived and was ok too, in the end. I requested fresh chips as the first portion had gone cold and they bought these out for me at no extra cost. Note: This was the night that England were playing in the Euros (before the final) and you could hear the radio/TV playing the match at the back of the pub. We feel that the staff were more interested in listening/watching the football than actually serving us. We did express our opinion politely to the waitress who took our payment but she had not been our serving waitress nor had she taken the food order so took the complaint and apologised despite not being involved in the problem. We also messaged the pub facebook page to complain that the service was appalling but we got no reply from them. Needless to say we're never eating there again.

We’d heard great things about this place but turns out it must have been from a few years back as it didn’t meet our expectations at all Service was polite but very slow and not attentive. I had to send my mussel starter back as the mussels were clearly freezer burned / past best/ over cooked and they came in half shells? Never known mussels be served like that before. They were very good about this and took it off the bill but was disappointing I had Kiev for main and my friend had sirloin steak. My Kiev was nice, salad accompanying it was nice too but my friends steak was so fatty she couldn’t really eat it Drinks were served warm without ice - Prosecco had definitely not seen a fridge and everywhere was just a bit dirty and grubby To top it off - a power cut and constantly running alarms for about 10mins of the night did not add to the enjoyment - something that couldn’t be helped but only added to the poor evening Shame as could be good, staff were nice and menu looked great - just lacking quality ingredients and some soap and water !

Lovely country pub. Some bar staff were very ignorant when we arrived on a busy night. Some confusion with our booking which meant we were given a very small table in a corner without full leg room. Extensive menu plus specials board. Food lovely when it came but unfortunately the wait was too long; over an hour without any updates from the staff.

Nice atmosphere in a nice country pub with lots of character. We were staying in a cottage nearby and this was perfect for a nice meal - we went for steak night - £10 for steak, chips, salad and peppercorn sauce. The steak was good quality and the chips were pretty good too (like good old fashioned chip pan chips). Good value, friendly but slow service. We enjoyed it so went twice in our 5 day stay. Good for kids and dogs too.

We were very hopeful when we first arrived as the pub is beautiful and the menu looked great. We ordered our food and commented they were not very busy in the restaurant for a Saturday night with only us and two more tables. We soon found out why!!! After waiting for 90 minutes and being ignored for all of that time without even being asked if we would like any more drinks we finally asked where our food was. A very young and inexperienced waitress seemed scared to speak to us. She explained they had a large party in (8 people) so they were rushed off their feet. We had sat and watched those 8 two of whom were toddlers have their starters main course and dessert with nothing for us. They then served the other couple their meals before we finally had a turn at 9pm after ordering at 7.10pm. No apologies, no offer of drinks and after we had commented on the wait we were ignored even More. Only one young man took time to speak with us and tried to explain for the reason for the wait. He seemed genuine and was the only person worth speaking too. When we asked to speak to the manageress we were told she was too busy in the kitchen to speak with us. In other words a spineless boss with no intention of dealing with issues. We were told she would ring us the following day to discuss our issues but surprisingly we are still waiting for her call. When the food finally arrived it was adequate but very small portions especially the lobster, I can honestly say I have had bigger prawns and this was £25. We were given a dessert bowl half filled with chips for four adults and one dish of veg for everyone. We then ordered desserts, my crumble and custard were stone cold so I sent it straight back and gave up. My friend specifically asked the waitress what the cheese was on the cheese board as she doesn’t like brie. She was told what they were and as it wasn’t brie she ordered it. When it was served over half of the cheese was brie. Will never return again.

We dined early in this log fired, comfortable, country pub. Welcome and service from Sally was exceptional and our food was hot and tasty. Choice of menu is staggering for a relatively small place. Would recommend arriving early as all food cooked to order therefore delays will naturally occur as tables fill. We will be returning with our hound, who is also welcome.

Lovely village pub with cosy log fires and a great atmosphere in which to enjoy an impressive range of home cooked dishes. This place never fails to disappoint. 2 of us had the sizzling prawns to start, 1 had black pudding with poached egg and hollandaise sauce. The mains we chose were crab and scallop thermidor (delicious) and steak with blue cheese sauce (ditto). All dishes served on piping hot plates (don't you just hate anywhere that serves decent food on stone cold plates?) with fabulous chips and nice veg side dished. This place is a true gem.

The food, when it finally arrives is good quality and value for money. The waiting staff work really hard and are good at their job. If only the kitchen speeds up and possibly offer less on the menu? From taking our order to food arriving - took at least 50 minutes, my barometer of waiting before I get twitchy is 20 minutes. It’s a lovely cosy, if quirky country pub. All things considered, will we be back? Yes - but I’ll order a starter next time!

What a shambles never again! 13 of us arrived at 3 oclock food and drink order taken around half hour after. Starters were nice but took over an hour and 15 to arrive, sat and waited another hour 15 for mains in this time wernt offerd any more drinks actually asked 3 different members of staff for a drink and still waiting for them to come and take our order to this day ! Mains started coming out around 5.15 2 hours and 15 minutes after arriving ! And the disaster hadent even started yet ! First children's meal arrived ham and Yorkshire pudding literally 1 slice of ham and a Yorkshire not a bit of gravey in site waited and waited the second meal to come out was salmon again a slice of salmon on its own no sides after the other 11 meals brought out the first two meals where still waiting for there sides now stone cold. So many things where wrong there where 3 portions of chips expected (they got brought out in 1 bowl) so with 2 people sitting at opposite ends of the table was hard work ! Again same with veg between the 13 meals we got 2 veg bowls to share granted not all meals had veg but passing veg up and down the table 20 minutes after mains had arrived veg being brought out our food had now gone cold ! Not to mention 1 of the steaks was just pure gristle so sent back and the chef asked what the problem was! There was maybe 5 Sunday dinners orderd we asked on ordering what they came with was told coli cheese and parsnips that also never arrived first we sat and wited but when we relaised they had served all what we where getting we asked about these to be told they had ran out and replaced by purple cabbage By now been here 2 and half hour every one was fed up again still waiting for drinks order to be taken! I had orderd a cup of tea whilst waiting I'm still waiting for that now and they charged us for it....it took a bit of a stand of to get the steak removed from the bill as it wasent edible so spending nearly 300 there was 13 of us not 1 of us will be returning the owner refused to speak to us and the chef just shrugged it of....it can't be helped if we run out of things....yes we get that but just to be notified you have ran out of half of our dinner would be nice as we would have chose another meal and no reduction was offerd to our half meal ! We where all looking forward to pudding after reading the menue but now 6.10 3 hours after arriving we couldn't wait to leave Will never return shocking experience Oh not to forget I may not have had coliflour cheese on my beef dinner but I had some tinfoil so half way through that got sent back the lady did apologise and bring me fresh meat and Yorkshire pudding but all the veg and mash had gone so then I had to wait for her to warm and bring me that, felt sory for the waitress getting all the stick for the lack of staff organising and supplies they had to deal with annoyed customers.....when we where speaking to the chef one lady marched herself into the kitchen shouting how she had been waiting over an hour and half for food and her husband didn't want it any more....2 of us orderd beef mine normal beef and another rare I was served the rare and my friends the normal so because I had tucked into mine which should have been hers, hers also had to go back and it was to cooked for her. Such a shame as could be so good but won't be returning to find out!

This is a remarkable little pub and it is run my the lovely Barbara and her daughter Rachel. We appeared on the door and they made us the most delicious beef sandwiches with horseradish and mustard on the side. A delicious round of drinks and coffee to finish. What made the visit totally amazing for us was the openness, generosity, humour and engagement. They are a remarkable reminder that despite all the problems in the world, there are people that ask for nothing and give everything. It really made our day, week and year to find genuine human characteristics of welcoming people. We cannot give them all the highest of praise and thanks. We were recommemded this public house by the owners of our holiday cottage. After a reccy visit on Sunday for a few cold beers, we booked a table for tonight. Today, Wednesday 12th August 2020, was meant to be our wedding day (pre-covid19).Staff were polite, helpful and observed appropriate COVID-19 safety precautions including regular hand sanitisation. Our meal, all 3 courses, were cookednfresh to order and tasted devine! The pub is also part of the Eat Out To Help Out scheme, so our three figure meal did not cost as much. The pub is quirky and friendly: adorned with all sorts of decorations and eye-catching ornaments. Whilst we obviously would have wanted our wedding to have gone ahead as planned, this was a great "Plan B" for us to celebrate together.Great menu selection! As fish lovers we really enjoyed the king prawns and scallops in a chilli, lime and corriander sauce! Tim had spicy monk fish and king prawns whilst I loved my lobster and scallop thermidor! We shall be back!!!

I can honestly say that I have never given any pub or restaurant such a bad review but unfortunately tonight The Brownlow Arms warrants this one. We arrived at 8pm for our pre-booked table for two, completed the checking in form and waited for someone to acknowledge us. We were completely ignored by the girl behind the bar as she was too busy chatting to her friend about someone who had moved to a barn conversion !! Eventually another member of staff asked for our name and drinks order, then showed us to our table and gave us menus. Nobody came to take our order so we had to ask if this could be done, eventually a waitress arrived and we ordered our food. Almost an hour later, we managed to catch the eye of a member of staff and asked when we could expect our starters, he said that he would go and check but would we like another drink whilst we were waiting. We ordered two drinks and waited for him to return with the drinks and information on where our starters were. Another ten minutes went by and still no food, nor the drinks that we had ordered. We decided that we had been patient enough and told a member of staff that we were not prepared to wait any longer and we left. It appeared as though there was no management at all and what staff there were seemed to have no concept of delivering customer service. There was also minimal safety measures in place, including social distancing. We saw three tables going to the bar to ask for their bills as they had been waiting so long for their bill to be calculated. I cannot comment on the food because we didn't get any !! We are really trying to support local businesses but sadly we will not be returning to The Brownlow Arms. We understand that in the current climate things are a bit more challenging but tonights performance was abysmal.

After pre booking our table we had to wait just inside the door and tried for nearly 10 minutes to get the attention of staff. Order was then taken for our drinks and eventually order was taken for main course. One hour later it arrived!! Two of the meals were good but the third, a steak, was really disgusting. Far too much blood and half the steak was gristle and inedible. When our plates were cleared we complained but nobody came to see us. Eventually we got the desert menu and then another long wait. When we did order, we were told some of the items they had run out of, including most types of ice cream. We did without. Eventually asked for the bill which didn't arrive, so had to queue at the bar which is not lawful with covid 19! After informing them about the condition of the steak, they did delete it from the account. Full price was paid for the soft drink, a lime & lemon (£4.20!!!!) which should have had the 50% discount. Staff not wearing masks, material towel in the gents, as well as a cat inside near the toilets. Also a ridiculous one way system that did not work. All in all it ruined our evening. I did request to speak to the manager/owner, but was told that she was too busy to see me. Left my name and phone number and as yet no response 24 hours later. We will certainly not be going there again. Two and a half hours for one course is too much for anybody!!!!!!!!!

Three of us prebooked for 5.30. Quite busy, people taking advantage of the August half price, and it seemed not enough waiters (one of whom said it was his first day). Long wait to place orders and for food to arrive. Two of the three of us were very happy with their seafood thermidor and beef medallions. I ordered steak. Waiter did not ask whether I wanted well done/.medium/rare. It was a very large, but very rare steak.. The first half I managed. Then it got so tough even the sharp steak knife would not go through and I had to leave it. Another very long wait before we could order desserts. Then told they had run out of custard and ice-cream and some of the choices. We waited - but eventually cancelled dessert. Visit time 2 1/2 hours for an incomplete meal. At least they agreed not to charge for mine. Very disappointing as we had all looked forward to it.

I havnt marked this review down low as I think it wouldn’t be a reflection of your usual service but what we experienced today was terrible and I feel this was my only way of getting it dealt with. I got up to ask about the dinner as my partner doesn’t eat veg would extra mash be possible etc, two members of staff were present one texting away on her phone while I was speaking to her and then they both laughed as I walked off. Rude. None of them took in what I’d asked clearly by the end of it anyway! Then no one came to take our order so I went up ordered and paid. Pub was quiet...so no excuse. Sat and sat the table next to us were eating mains when I ordered they were now on desserts. Still nothing. A large group had come in whilst we waited they got their starters us still nothing. I had to stop someone they clearly had cocked up but no explanation although the dark haired girl apologised as I told her it was awful but couldn’t explain what the reasoning was!The lad who took my order was one present when I had asked about mash and yet still we got loads of veg and I had to go without mash so my partner even looked like he had even half a dinner. We got up and went before our plates were even cleared. If I hadn’t of paid for my dinner upon ordering I wouldn’t of waited for it. It clearly wasn’t just us as a man waited for drinks and had to go ask some staff if they could serve him. Then another member of staff is telling other customers he needs something to do. I hate leaving crappy reviews but today was a waste of time and money to be ignored and not even an explanation and obviously food request not followed (was happy to pay extra if needed) Felt for the dark haired girl as it was her I had to stop and she wasn’t at all a rude one. Wasn’t worth the money today guys I normally always have pudding also but not after that and if I’m going to have people texting and ignoring a request/ question il not bother. Ruined the meal.

Reading other comments, I wish we'd read them beforehand and decided to go elsewhere for my Dad's 70th birthday meal. I'm not a person who usually complains. My family and I will put up with a lot before mentioning anything and I rarely write poor reviews. If we'd had a genuine apology about our experience, I probably wouldn't be writing this, but the way we were treated was so poor that I feel I need to warn others. My parents have had decent meals here in the past, but the problems this time started from the point we were shown to our table. We found we were squashed into a corner with three tables of different heights and shapes, and an electric heater making it very uncomfortable. We were an afterthought. We didn't complain about this at the time, or even when we spoke to the staff about the atrocious food. We simply jigged things around ourselves and turned the heater off. Sadly, despite our best efforts, it wasn't a good experience at all. What a shame. For most of our party the food was alright. Standard roast dinners were nice enough. The children's meals were absolutely awful. Four pieces of scampi on a plate and a small bowl of chips to share between them. We had to ask for more and when they arrived they were overcooked. Not a piece of veg or salad in sight for the children. Even the kids themselves were surprised that there wasn't peas or salad. The 'vegan roast' for my brother was shocking to say the very least. A Yorkshire pudding (which I doubt was actually vegan) and a piece of stuffing. That is not a meal. Of the sharing veg, all the potatoes had animal fat or butter on them and the parsnips and cauliflower had cheese toppings. So to add to his piece of stuffing my brother could add... carrots and cabbage. I don't really blame the Brownlow Arms for not being geared up for vegan eating (even though it's pretty standard now, in 2019). But at least be honest about it. Don't offer a 'vegan roast' and then present a piece of stuffing. When we did complain, the response was awful. Defensive, blaming us, rude. I feel really sad about the whole experience. My advice for the management: - Don't accept large bookings if you don't feel you can offer a good service - If a group reports that their experience has been sub-standard, be humble. Apologise, do what you can to make up for it and promise it won't happen again As it stands, it is the management response that has really been the problem here. We have written off the Brownlow Arms as a local eatery and will make sure none of our friends or contacts ever goes there again.

Vegan dinner - one of our party is vegan and was told there was a vegan Sunday roast available - when it came out, it was a yorkshire pudding, a ball of stuffing and a boat of veggie gravy - no substitute for the meat. Dinner minus meat does not a vegan alternative make, Brownlow Arms.Kids meals - 4 bits of scampi on a large plate, not enough chips in the sharing bowlRice undercooked on one person's stuffed aubergine - not accurately described as it was not a stuffed aubergine.Service - not confident person serving table of 15Sat down at 1pm, starters at 2.20, mains 3.05Had to ask for every round of drinks, no checking if we wanted anythingComplaint - list of excuses, busy, that's what lots of places do for vegans i.e. Leave the meat off and replace with nothing - erm, no, 'what would you put on there?'When the bill was brought, it was just put on the table with a 'there you go' - no explanation of what had been done to it to make up for the poor service and meals. Very poor training. Not told of specialsStaff were overrun and possibly not experienced enough - we felt for them though, as this is a management issue and it's them who need to sort it.We weren't charged for the vegan meal or the children's meals, but as 6 out of 15 of our party had a sub-standard meal, that was the bare minimum they could have done - no apology.

We thought it might be us...a large party celebrating a memorable birthday until I read the previous TA review....our experience mirrors those comments so don't need repeating. We've been (In smaller groups or couples) many times over the years but this has to be the longest we've ever waited for food ...nearly 2 hrs from ordering. When it arrived it was all very good.Come on Brownlow Arms, reduce your extensive menu, get another chef, speed up and have a reputation you deserve other than the existing one.

Gorgeous food, scrumptious wine but .. the inconsistent service let it down. We had lunch today, with family visiting from New Zealand, maybe nothing special to your readers but we chose this venue because I wanted ‘special’. We’ve been here a few times already but, we chased up our main course to be served .. I think we had been forgotten. I reminded the staff we requested water, I cleared our empty glasses off the table at one point .. I did feel our table was invisible for a time. The staff seemed to be ‘on it’ although we’re inconsistent with delivering effective service. Despite the fantastic food it did take the edge off, bit of a shame really.

I loved the atmosphere in this country pub, it was lovely to see the local people sat at the bar chatting, we even joined into their conversation a couple of times. The staff were all lovely and although it was obvious they were busy they were all very attentive. We will definitely be back. Sunday Lunch just how your Grandma would have made it!

This remains an excellent village pub, with an extensive menu. We ate here 3 times during the week, each meal was well cooked and portion size was adequate. The meals are not cheap but are well worth it. The steaks remain excellent. The pub is dog friendly but I suggest you ring ahead and book a suitable table.Yes, most of the staff are young, but they were pleasant and efficient. Waiting time was acceptable. Please also see my previous (more detailed) 2017 review.

Great independent pub with traditional Sunday Lunch Menu. 4 roasts and rare sirloin steak on offer with plenty of potatoes (3 types), vegetables with great yorkshire puddings. All followed with classic puddings. Seasonal Blackberry crumble, knicker bocker glory, sticky toffee pudding, raspberry roulade among the tempting menu options. Get there early as it fills up quickly.

We had passed this pub on a day out and decided to give it a go for dinner one Thursday evening. Don't let the decor put you off - it is like stepping back in time and there is no cohesion to any particular style or fashion but the service and food more than makes up for this.

Went for an early evening dinner here on holiday in June when lots of other restaurants in the area were shut Mondays. We didn’t book but getting a table no problem. Food came promptly, 2 of us had the £10 steak deal on Mondays, great value for money. Lovely chunky chips and plenty of veg. A very satisfactory evening meal.

Our local pub whilst on holiday. We ate there three times and were very surprised by how good their food was. Given that they had some poor results. We couldn't find fault in any way, Connor one of the staff was exeptional as were the rest of the staff we came into contact with. Would definitely eat there again.

We were a table of only 3, booked in at 1.30 for lunch on Fathers Day. We arrived about 10 minutes early and placed our order fairly quickly. We waited almost an hour for starters and then a further 40 minutes for mains. At 3pm I went to the bar to chase our food, to be told it was coming ‘now’. Five minutes later we gave up and left. We were not charged for the starters and drinks we’d had, but still left very frustrated and disappointed with what was meant to be a Fathers Day treat. We drove half an hour each way and so, along with spending almost 2 hours in the pub, wasted a good chunk of our afternoon and ended up at McDonald’s as we were so hungry!

We have been a regular of this place which is always busy and we know if we choose to go here we usually wait 45 minutes for our meals. One and half hours later - meat was over cooked and the vegetables were rock hard. This is the second time in a row that we have been disappointed with our food. Sad to say we will no longer be coming regularly.

Obviously this establishment is aimed at locals. Service was slow for drinks but obviously with this being a local business staff were multi tasking. We ordered food but were told we would have to be quick as they would be busy later. We were asked to move from seats to eat food so we lost our seat for new years eve so ended up leaving after our meal. Food was excellent and good value. Nice little local pub but felt unwelcome as we were not local faces and felt like they just wanted us gone after our meal.

Went for a family Sunday lunch. There were seven of us, it was busy but know one seemed to be in charge. It was ages before our order were taken, and when it was we waited nearly an hour before our starters arrived. They were ok and then we waited for the main course.........and we waited. After asking several times it arrived in stages, it could been a good meal but veg was put on the table stone cold, roast Lamb was as tough as comes. Asking for hot veg it arrived when we finished eating the meat and Yorkshire Puds. I asked to see the manager, there were very young staff totally inexperienced and with know guidance of what to do.

There is a vast menu, and the waiters do not always know what is still available. Prices are very reasonable, and the food good, with generous portions. We went on a Sunday evening and it was very busy and very noisy in the bar area. Took a good 10 minutes before we knew which was our table. If you want to eat at 7.00pm then book your table for 6.00pm and you might be lucky. We heard someone say that service was always slow.

after reading the reviews and looking at the website we decided to try this pub for Sunday lunch. It is a treat to have Sunday lunch out and this was extremely disappointing. We were a table of 5 and had reserved a table for Sunday 4pm and as soon as we sat down and looked around I was disappointed. The photos on the website looked like a traditional pub with modern touches but this was just very tired looking with lots of artificial flowers and pottery animals. The waitress soon came and took our drinks order and then our meal order. We then had to wait nearly an hour for our food to arrive. It wasn’t busy and we seemed to be the only people waiting for food so I don’t know why it took so long. We had ordered lamb with mint sauce Yorkshire’s and veg. The lamb was very sparse on the plate, I got 4/5 small pieces there was no mint sauce which we didn’t realise until we had finished and the veg were mushy peas, cheesy leeks, cheesy cauliflower, cheesy parsnips and carrots. Roast Potatoes weren’t crispy just soft. Not what I would expect for £12.50 at all. The other major problem was flies, we counted about 15 at one point and it wasn’t very pleasant to sit with them landing on us and the food all the time. The waitress asked if f we wanted anything else and we requested 2 glasses Of water.....they never arrived and there was no one around to even ask. Yes, I should have spoken up and complained but as It was my father in law paying for us I didn’t want to be rude and ungrateful but we won’t be returning.

Had been very highly recommended by two separate friends. As it was a special occasion we wanted a lovely meal.We arrived and were asked what we wanted to drink before we had even sat down and had seen the menu. So we did not order appropriate wine if indeed there's was a choice of wine as we were not given a wine list. Apparently my partner said the "white wine" she asked for was very good. We were taken to our places and were given a very large list of main courses only. So we assumed we were not getting the option of a starter perhaps they were not available that time of day (7pm). We waited a fair amount of time for our order to be taken by a friendly member of staff. We ordered the main course and when it arrived there were vegetables and chips as side dishes automatically provided (included in the price but not mentioned anywhere). My Thermidor was swimming in cream which did not appear to have been reduced sufficiently. The taste was good but extremely sickly. The chips were excellent. The cabbage and carrots were overcooked and soggy. We left most of the vegetables and cream. "Was everything ok?" "Yes just ok" was my response no further comment as to why we had left so much. Did we want a sweet? there was a list only the table but we were not asked. Therefore we asked for the bill paid and left. A lot of lost opportunity here for the restauranteur.

We live quite close to here and it is always our favourite place to go for a bar meal. Sunday lunch is always lovely. We tend to go around 5 as it’s always quiet by then. We were there on Saturday night and food was great. In fact I have a new favourite starter - prawn and chorizo tapas. It was delicious. There are times where you can wait a bit for your food but as it is always fresh I never mind and you always get s nice meal. Staff work hard and are friendly but not in your face like some places. I would definitely recommend.

I’ve always hated the way that when you first walk in no one acknowledges you for ages, they just keep walking past you, but coz the food used to be lovely then that didn’t matter. But our latest meal wasn’t nice at all. In my starter the chorizo had huge big bits of grissle in every mouthful, minging. And the blue cheese mushrooms were watery and left a bitter taste in my mouth. The mains were a bit better, but would nooo way be rushing back. It’s not even likes it’s cheap, thought it was expensive! The menu was massive, quite hard to pick from coz thought it all sounded nice. Definitely didn’t taste it

We booked for a family birthday, Friday evening and were a little surprised to be given a choice of table. We settled next to the fire. Drinks order taken we waited a little while for the food order but there was a lot on the menu. Our order was taken in a friendly and helpful manner and a couple of variations taken without quibble. The food, chicken, sea bass and venison were all nicely done with plenty of veg. I would not call the service overwhelming but then we did not want to be rushed. Three of us had dessert which again were fine.

Special night out to celebrate our anniversary, booked a table and arrived a few minutes early. The place was very busy with lots of full tables but none with food. Perhaps that should have warned us. However, we were quickly shown to our table, drinks arrived and order taken. Starters arrived within 20minutes and were good. It was at this point that it all seemed to fall apart. Our starters were cleared and at this point the evening was going well. Then it seemed as is everyone did a disappearing act. One hour later and still no main course I went looking for someone to ask how long, it’s coming next I was told, some 15 minutes later our food finally arrived nearly 2 hours after we walked through the door. At this point we had gone beyond eating, but decided to eat our meal. Mine was ok but my husbands was Luke warm and tasteless. We quickly ate and went to pay. The staff were obviously embarrassed and didn’t even ask if we’d enjoyed our food or if everything was ok. I explained that it had been a very disappointing evening, waiting so long for our food. The barmaid said yeah sorry a chef rang in sick. Not sure how that was our fault or how that was acceptable. No offer of a discount for poor service, no real apology. There were at least three other tables who were very disgruntled, one of which were seated when we arrived and hadn’t been served their mains when we left. They were celebrating an 80th birthday, like us a spoilt night. Why not advise diners that there might be a delay prior to taking their order, to give them the option of going elsewhere. Things can happen and can sometimes go wrong, it’s how you handle them that determin the quality of the establishment. This establishment either wasn’t interested in feedback or didn’t care. I wouldn’t recommend and we definitely wouldn’t return.

Family of four went for an evening meal on 30/09/17, two of us got steaks, one fillet and one sirloin, my fillet was the first to be brought out but unfortunately by the time the vegetables and chips had arrived 20 minutes later it was lukewarm at best. The other steak ordered was a sirloin which came covered in the sauce ordered (should be in a separate pot), maybe the reason it wasn’t was to cover up the fact he steak was 50% grizzle. The other two meals where perfectly fine but very disappointed.

Ok for a coffee but the staff were terrified of any customers. Not allowed to use the toilet. Long wait for coffee. Shouted at to wear masks we were already wearing. Seemed paralysed by fear - I would avoid even trying to sit inside. They were happy for people to sit outside. Though it was raining hard. Such a shame as a delightful village and would have been a nice break from our walk.

Tried this lovely pub for the first time earlier this week with friends for an evening meal off the weekday menu. I had Scampi which was wholetail, light batter , served with the best chips I’ve had in ages . Others had chicken and burger, all were beautifully cooked and quality ingredients. Eaton Mess was spot on and the sticky toffee and custard had us drooling ! The atmosphere was what you’d want in a lovely cosy country inn, the owners were very friendly, service friendly and quick without feeling rushed. They also accommodated our 2 large dogs offering a nice treat and water. We loved it that much we’ve just returned from Sunday lunch !! Prawn cocktail starters were excellent, more prawn than salad 👍, soup, black pudding and bacon , all served with a warm crusty roll, all were very good. 3 of us had roast beef dinners and one roast pork - the veg was cooked perfectly, as were the mash and roast potatoes. Yorkshire pudding were just right. None of us could find space for a pudding but the menu has something for everyone. We shall most definitely return again.
