The Broughton in Newcastle-under-Lyme

A few weeks ago, my family and I visited to celebrate both my birthday and my sister-in-law's. We were lucky to have a lovely table outside in the sunshine, which was perfect as it gave my little nephew space to play on the lawn. The food and drinks were fantastic, such a great variety and everything was absolutely delicious. We were looked after by a wonderful server named Jordan, who truly went above and beyond. He was incredibly attentive, offering helpful suggestions and sharing his recommendations – all of which were spot on. His attention to detail and warm service made our celebration feel extra special. Thank you so much :)

Delicious meal as always - we were celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary - and the food didn’t disappoint. Love all the paragon restaurants.

Amazing food as always and friendly , helpful staff

Attended yesterday evening for a meal with work colleagues. All 9 of us had a great evening. Food was amazing, atmosphere was great and Jordan provided a superb service to us all.

Whilst one of the waiters (Jordan) was very good, the others lacked attention. Our starter came out with the mains, drinks took too long to arrive (after having asked twice to have some) and the kids toffee sauce on the ice cream was coffee. Luckily they didn’t mind too much.

Jordan looked after our Table of 4, despite the restaurant being incredibly busy and understaffed, Jordan was always incredibly attentive, professional and offered a personalised service. He asked if our booking was for a particular occasion and after discovering it was a celebration for my 22nd birthday he Promptly arranged for a complimentary cake to be delivered to the table, Excellent service as always.

Lovely food and atmosphere. Jordan was very attentive and welcoming as well as asking if we were celebrating anything, he then brought out a birthday dessert which was very well received. Although the restaurant was busy he provided excellent service which was consistent throughout the night.

Food was amazing, had the shepherds pie, out of this world. Very clean, bright, friendly staff, the only problem we had was ordering drinks. They took well over 10 minutes to come once ordered, could never make eye contact with the staff. Ordered a drink halfway through desert, finished, chatted for a while and then asked for the bill, we mentioned we hadn't had it and they did take it off the bill. This was the only dampner on the lunch

All the staff here are so lovely!! We had amazing food and our server jade was amazing. We had drinks taken off our order too for the wait. Would definitely recommend this place and I will be going back.

Jordan was great always checking in on us popping his head round but not disturbing us food was great and the snug really is a nice little snug away from the noise of the rest of the restaurant

The service was great, in particular Jordan really made the experience. He made sure we got our food on time, he met our needs and really gave us a good experience.

I’ve always had a beautiful meal here and the service tonight was exceptional. Anyone wanting to dine here will not be disappointed, always try and get Jordan as your server, he’s got a fantastic customer service, fast when needed but also gives you an opportunity to chat if he’s not too busy

Haven’t finished our meal yet but I am more than happy to give 5 stars. Starter (mushroom soup) was incredible! Main was delicious too and a generous portion. These guys are quick and polite and I will definitely be back.

Fabulous place. Staff were lovely and the atmosphere was great. Constructive criticism, poor vegetarian choice. Would love to return but this would unfortunately stop that. Shame really as it’s a great place.

I went to the Broughton to celebrate my birthday , the service was fast and the staff were very kind and patient. Jordan really helped us out and even arranged for a birthday show which was lovely and much appreciated ! Thanks, we will definitely be coming back !

As always it’s a real pleasure to visit. Always a good ‘vibe’. Our group had Teriyaki Chicken, Cottage Pie and Haddock & Chips followed by Hot Brookie Dough, Limoncello Cheesecake and Toffee Apple Crumble. The DJ was playing in the background which was nice. The only downside is there isn’t a decent choice of zero alcohol wines/spirits, maybe something that Paragon could consider.

Amazing food and service and lovely wine!!

We visited The Broughton recently and had a brilliant experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is just right — stylish and comfortable without feeling too formal. It still has that warm, local pub feel, which we really appreciated. We ordered the cottage pie and the Wagyu burger, and both were absolutely spot on. The cottage pie was rich and full of flavour, with perfectly creamy mash and a lovely crispy top — real comfort food done properly. The Wagyu burger was also a standout: juicy, tender, and clearly made with high-quality meat. The sides were great too, especially the crispy, well-seasoned fries. What really made the evening even better was the outstanding service from our waiter, Jordan. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. He gave great recommendations and made us feel really well looked after without being intrusive. It’s rare to come across someone who strikes that perfect balance of professionalism and personality — Jordan absolutely nailed it. Overall, a fantastic meal in a lovely setting with top-notch service. We’ll definitely be back, and we’ll be asking for Jordan again if we can

Evening out for a birthday treat. My personal favourite from the Paragon group. Excellent service from the young lady who waited on us. Nice food, good wine and a lovely atmosphere. Nothing I could fault. Will 100% return for more of this menu. Thank you!

Super food and excellent service by Jordan!

Everything spot on except the chicken skewer. Probably should tell people it's thigh, not breast. However, the fish and chips with peas and curry sauce was superb. The shoulder of lamb was excellent. The deserts were all really, really good. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. Bars staff were good. Would recommend.

Reeally good but one thing is it gave me a flat lemonade other than that amazing the atmosphere was good food tasty and service excellent we had Jordan and it was amazing you can also get a kids steak chips a really good selection of deserts for kids and adults

Overall: expensive, pretentious, badly executed. Cheap vibe, poor experience, bad coffee. - Decor feels like a tacky Marbella bar - soulless and overdone. - Big space but poorly broken up; zero atmosphere. - Vibe is all wrong: phones ringing, loud staff chats, not relaxing. - Steak and eggs: steak was fine but underseasoned, fat not rendered. - Fried potato balls tasted frozen and greasy. No seasoning. - Cherry tomatoes + mushrooms: unseasoned, bland, and slimy. - Cappuccino tasted like it came from a vending machine; grim. - Service charge built in, of course - poor value for money. - Portion size small; left still hungry. - Staff were polite - only redeeming feature.

We visited for a weekend meal. The staff were very lovely, especially the young lady that served our table Esmae. Food was beautiful and a lovely feel to the restaurant.

Third visit to The Broughton — one good, two bad. This last visit sealed it. I won’t be returning. My partner and I had an evening meal booked. Starters were fine. I ordered a sirloin steak, medium rare, priced around £35 with sauce and sides. The first steak arrived completely well done. I informed the waitress, and she took it back. Roughly 6–7 minutes later, a second steak came out — blue, cold in the middle. Sent back again. Another 6 minutes and a third steak arrived. This one was still not right — slightly more cooked but clearly rare. By then my partner had finished her main. I told the staff I no longer wanted the steak and not to bother remaking it again. They offered to bring something else, but I had no appetite at that point. I wasn’t about to sit and eat while my partner sat finished and waiting. A manager came over and said they use a probe to check doneness. Regardless, the steak was visibly rare — not medium rare. That excuse only made the failure worse. They took the main courses off the bill, but it didn’t change the fact that the evening was wasted. I left hungry. Poor execution, poor recovery. I won’t be returning.

This place is superb (as are all the pubs in the Paragon chain). The venue is stunning with clean and modern decor. Service is always top class, all the staff are friendly and professional and to top it all the food is always delicious. We have never had a bad meal here and we have visited many, many times!!!

Had a lovely evening celebrating my son’s birthday. The food was delicious and arrived together and quickly. The venue is beautiful and spotless. The service was exemplary by all the staff but must mention our main server. Jordan is a lovely young man who was extremely attentive and friendly. He was on hand constantly for anything we required. A nice complimentary celebration dessert was given to my son as well which was a really nice gesture. We don’t live local but will definitely go back when in the area visiting my son. Many thanks
