Great beer and atmosphere with helpful and friendly staff. It was open when our hotel bar was shut, and is a really fun place to go. We didn't eat there, but if I go to London again I would try it.

We ended up here after doing the Shard and to be honest it really isn't great. The guy on the bar lacked charisma, most in London have a bit of banter but here there was nothing. The girl was much friendlier and chatty. We had a couple of drinks then noticed the place was emptying? and the girl started tidying up around us, taking menu's etc. off the tables, before 7PM!! No food then. We asked what was happening and she told us the manager told her to shut! Madness, more people came in only to be turned away. Very poor business sense, won't be back.

Terminé mi pinta y comida y me fui. En ningún momento, ningún miembro del personal vino a ver si todo estaba bien, si necesitaba algo, otra bebida, etc. ¿No adiós como me fui? . . . ¿Volvería? Uhh probablemente no. .

This pub opposite the Bridge Theatre by the Thames proved a surprise treat. It was quite empty when we arrived for a pre theatre lunch. However it filled up while we ate. It deserves to be packed. The food was absolutely delicious. The small but compact menu offered local dishes at relatively low prices. The Cumberland sausage which came with a selection of different versions of creamed mashed potato was excellent and huge. I had a stunning chicken liver pate starter that could not have been bettered. Talk about a large portion, it could almost have been a main course. The fish and chips with mushy peas were spot on with the fish absolutely fresh and the chips very nice indeed. A good offering of beers and ciders. One of the best London pub lunches we have had in a long time. Service was very friendly and we were impressed that a slight hiccup was immediately corrected to our total satisfaction. Recommended.

I've had a great culinary week: three meals out and two of them in excellent restaurants new to me. The Bridge Lounge was the most recent and far and away the biggest surprise. Housed in an 1875 building just opposite the entrance to Potters Field Park, City Hall and the great Bridge Theatre, it looks like any old undistinguished pub. Step inside and you'll be amazed: yes it looks like a well loved, well cared for genuine pub with an agreeable amount of space and a happy lack of music. There's a cheerful welcome from the staff even before you order unlike so many pubs where, if you are not a regular, the welcome is sometimes more like a sneer. There's a wide range of beers, wines and ciders and a shortish menu and a few daily specials. Almost everything on offer is absolutely classic British pub food, including sandwiches, and there are only one or two exotic bits and pieces available. The food, like the whole place, is generous, carefully presented and excellent. Madam had Lamb Sausages on Mustard Mashed Potatoes and I had Ham, Eggs and Chips....home made chips, three eggs, a huge amount of home cooked Ham and a slice of bread and butter....a trencherman's treat in a really old fashioned way. There wasn't much conversation as we lapsed into oohs and aahs and "Ah, that's nice" for the west Country Ale that was on tap. We had no room for desserts but they looked inventive and opulent. Service was wonderful: warm, receptive, helpful and efficient. One felt one was meeting old, caring friends. Super place, worth finding and our meal: two mains and two half pints....£22.50. Amazing.

Have been to this pub a few times before and never had issues. Came on a Thursday lunchtime and asked for a pint of soda water, to which the bartender poured me one from the soda tap, and asked for £2.50. £2.50, in my opinion, is an utter joke for soda water - not even from a bottle. I queried this and he said I should've asked for the price first, and when I asked if I could change drink, he said I had to pay for the water since he'd poured it. Fair enough if this was a pint - but I've worked in pubs and know the value of soda water (from a bloody tap!). Absolutely lack of intelligence or customer service to realise this was obscene and let me change drink. Ridiculous over a glass of water!

I rarely post reviews as I am one of those ungrateful consumers who enjoys good service, food and wine but doesn't take the effort to feedback on trip advisor. However, with The Bridge Lounge, I need to make an exception. From the initial meeting I had with Nigel who could not be more helpful with his advice and recommendations (thanks for the cupcakes tip) and flexibility, I definitely felt like I had come to the right place. We agreed a time when we would be able to take over the upstairs of the bar and it fit our 40 or so guests perfectly. On the day, we had Dale, Pat and team looking after us. We arrived early in the morning so we could decorate the upstairs of the bar and were provided with coffee and useful information from Dale and Pat. When the guests started to arrive (some of whom were near to or in their 70s), Pat and his bar team took their drinks orders as well as payment and then delivered the drinks to our guests to save them the stairs journey. As our guests arrived in waves, Nigel provided our food from the kitchen as and when it was required which meant there was hot food and nibbles (which went down very well with the guests) throughout the day. The evening was a huge success which was definitely in part due to the team at The Bridge Lounge and the venue itself. Nothing was too much trouble. I truly cannot thank you enough. My mum enjoyed her 70th and takes away some very happy memories.

I am disappointed to say The Bridge Lounge has rapidly declined in standards as of late. Monday to Friday I would avoid this pub if you're after a quiet social venue or a quick pint before catching the train. The pub use to be a firm favourite of mine with great service all year round. The staff were amazing, friendly and were willing to get to know their customers for that extra special touch. However, as of late it appears the pub has suffered a major shake-up. You can now experience up to a 20 minute wait to get served at the bar and when you get there you're likely to experience another 10 minute wake whilst they try to work out how to pour your drinks. Whilst mentioning the pouring of drinks, you may as well go in with a 99p flake considering the amount of head which is on all the pints they now serve. I have no idea what the owners are trying to do. However, I think they need to take a step back and get the basics of customer service right. It's a real shame as the pub has so much potential and could be amazing.

We didn't fancy a big lunch so opted for something a little more unusual - a fish finger roll. Top Tip of our stay: go here and order that! And maybe wash it down with a glass of the black stuff. Three good sized pieces of fresh fish in the tastiest, crispest batter you will ever have had were served with gem lettuce and a slice of beef tomato on a brioche roll with a serving of amazingly tasty fresh fried chips which entirely meet the category of perfect. We get to come to London about three times a year and this has been by far our best pub meal yet.

found this place after visiting the Poppies last Thursday. We went to the nearby Wetherspoons but it was so packed we decided to leave and look for somewhere quieter. Walking along Tooley street we came across the Bridge Lounge and decided to give it a go. There were a few people at the bar and a few seated at the tables around the light and airy bar and the whole place had a very relaxed atmosphere. We had a look at the menu and both decided to order the ham egg and chips and we had a pint of ale each which came to about £26 so about £13 each. We were told there was an upstairs restaurant so we went up there and had the whole place to ourselves, the complete opposite to the Wetherspoons. Our food soon arrived by a helpfull young waiter. The ham was nice and tender and the chips cooked just right but i thought the eggs a little dry and overcooked but with a good helping of tomato ketchup it made for a tasty meal. The upstairs has good views from the windowsSo yes i would reccomend this quiet diner if you want to have a decent meal and not too expensive away from the crowds

We found this place after visiting the poppies at the Tower of London. We had first of all found a Weatherspoons but they had not had a delivery so they had no food. We then spotted this place. It was not too busy. Just a couple of tables with people on them. There was not a lot on the menu, but it was a good selection. We both ordered fish finger roll with chips. The fish fingers were not the normal shop bought things but home made battered bits of fish. This was in a nice soft roll with some salad. The chips where in a little bucket and were a nice golden brown colour. I am guessing they were probably cooked twice. The food was lovely. Really nicely cooked and home made.

Visited this pub on Saturday lunchtime 1/11/2014. Out of 3 meals ordered, 2 were served cold, the third was just passable. After conplaining to the waiter he took both meals away, presumably to kitchen. After about five minutes both meals were returned.Mine (fish & chips) had had the fish replaced with a marginally warmer one, although the chips still weren't much warmer, (my wifes (scampi & chips) were still stone cold.We complained to the waitress this time who offered a sandwich instead!! She then took the scampi off the plate after my wife agreed to make do with just the chips! (We shared the marginally warmer fish!) It was agreed that we would not be charged for the scampi & chips!A great pity as the food was quite tasty & well presented, guess they must have problems with the cooker! Not a place we shall visit again.

A very busy day in London, hot and sunny, and crowds aplenty, and a complete lack of decent dining venues, until, that was, we stumbled across this place! It's well positioned, and yet, in spite, of this, it feels like a proper pub (and has no pretensions of grandeur). That said, however, we were lucky: many who followed us in were turned away, as the place was recovering from a lunchtime rush, and we consider ourselves lucky to have avoided that treatment. Anyway, on the plus side, the staff were good, attentive and knowledgeable, the atmosphere was spot-on, and - to top it all - the fish-finger-sandwiches were out of this world, and more than compensated for the 40 minute wait for them; they were astonishing, and were more akin to mini battered cod fillets rather than anything that Cap'n Birds Eye could have conjured up! So, all in all, we were lucky - whereas many others weren't - and we will re-visit, as it felt "proper".

This is a Gastro Pub in Tooley Street close to London Bridge. It is sort of between "hot spots" (Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast, Cutty Sark, etc) so doesn't get overwhelmed. A nice airy, light interior to the large windowed facades, with simple, yet effective food choices. This is a ideal lunch spot. I suspect evenings will be quite different. But here, you can be comfortable in groups of 2, 3 or 4 and watch the world going by outside whilst you take your choice from the menu. My recommendation is to use it as a filler, between events. It has a good selection of light meals and starters you could mix and match into a decent lunch. Main courses are standard pub fare of the gammon, egg and chips variety. Nothing wrong with that, but if you are really that hungry, you might be better looking around a little for a more exciting offering.

Myself and a friend visited this place for a quick drink last week and received the worst service I think I've ever had in a pub.Without paying much attention to the wine list she went to the bar and ordered two glasses of house white. The barman started to pour the first glass and she noticed he was pouring a large glass so quickly explained that we only wanted medium glasses. To this he replied that it was too late and started to pour a second large glass. In disbelief, we then asked him why he'd poured another large glass after she'd specifically told him we didn't want that size. I also suggested that he could have transferred the wine in the first large glass into two mediums and then simply topped the second one up. He then rudely told us that it was our job to inform him what size we wanted and then he proceeded to start serving someone else. When he finally came back to us we asked to speak to the manager and he said that he wasn't willing to get them and if he/she did come out and speak to us then they would simply back him up. At this point we decided we didn't really fancy drinking in this place and left.As far as I understand it, pubs in the UK have a legal obligation to offer wine in not only medium but also small (125ml) measures if requested by the customer. I was shocked that this bar didn't ask us whether we wanted a small, medium or large glass and then when challenged we were told that we had no option but to have a glass that contains a 1/3 of a bottle of wine.As someone who both lives and works closeby, I will be telling everyone I know to avoid it like the plague.

After wandering around the Tower Bridge area in London on a Sunday we were hungry and looking for something that was not a complete tourist restaurant; thankfully we came upon this location and couldn't have been more pleased with this discovery. Finding an open restaurant on Sunday was a bit more challenging than expected.Located at the corner of Tooley St. and Druid St. with plenty of windows so you can enjoy the hustle of the city. The dining area is well laid out, with table surrounding the bar area and plenty of seating.Sitting down, the staff was friendly and quick to help. The menu was not massive, but there was plenty selection. I ended up having their Pie of the Day and it was incredible, I tried to find something else like it and was not able to. Paired it with some cask ales made for an amazing meal. The prices were a relief too...you will not go broke and you will be well fed.I would recommend this location to anyone: friendly staff, delicious food. We definitely have hopes of returning here.

I've been to Manze's Tower Bridge Rd about a dozen times over the years. The pie and mash has always been totally authentic and just perfect. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful. I saw them today taking time to explain to several tourists what the food was all about. The surroundings are also exactly how they should be for a traditional Pie & Mash shop. 10 out of 10 all round! I find my own experiences here totally at odds with the few negative reviews. Either they were really unlucky or had unrealistic expectations of what authentic pie and mash should be.
