Google showed kitchen as open so we arrived 11:20. Got told that the restaurant and kitchen is not opening untill 12:00. We asked if we could sit and have a drink while we waited for 12:00. After 40mins of waiting we asked if we can move into the restaurant area just to be told "we dont have space for walk ins". My wife asked why they did not tell us when we arrived and they just dismissed us with "we have more than 100 people coming in". Completely dismissive and not worried about service at all.

MORE AT Google

A Properly Run Establishment in an Age of Decline It is, regrettably, a sign of the times that one feels compelled to commend a place simply for getting the basics right. Yet here we are. The Bridge in Shawford does not attempt to dazzle with gimmicks, nor does it fall into the all-too-common trap of mistaking pretentiousness for quality. Instead, it delivers precisely what one should expect from a proper British establishment: a relaxed atmosphere, staff who understand the meaning of both politeness and efficiency, and, crucially, good food at a price that does not leave one feeling fleeced. In an era where even the simplest of services seem to have become needlessly complicated or inexplicably disappointing, The Bridge stands out precisely because it does not. It functions as it should, as any decent restaurant or pub once did, before standards were lowered in the name of mediocrity. A quiet success, and one worth supporting.

Mediocre springs to mind. The food was pretty standard to say the least. Went there because I liked the look of the menu but discovered, once seated, that the photographs of the menu were seven years old. Several of the items I'd looked at weren't served anymore. I learned from the server that we were not the first ones caught out by this. I thought it was expensive for what it was. No return trip planned.

Great staff, (esp Ness), good food and nice atmosphere. Fish and chips are great. On my last visit I ordered a medium cooked steak which unfortunately came out rare and was very chewy. I informed the waitress Ness who handled it brilliantly and was very apologetic and got it cooked some more. I noticed Ness was very attentive to customers etc and she is a credit to the pub. One thing I would say, is that if you have to send something back like I did, I would expect them to supply fresh and hot chips rather than having the original ones which weren’t that hot.

Staff were pleasant, and though we hadn't booked found us a table. Unfortunately we were told there was a 30 min wait for food. Which didn't seem too bad. This was a gross underestimation. So 2.5 hours later we left after only ordering 2 courses, immediately after our second course. They were apparently short staffed on the day. The food itself was of variable quality. My chicken breast and strips were overcooked, dry and hard. Though portion size was good. My husband's meal was better. We considered the prices high for the food quality. Drinks from the bar were also high. Most people eating there were using discounting coupons, which would have made the prices reasonable. Otherwise avoid.

Now The Food , I ordered the duo of roast , cold meat , and a dried up piece of pork ! undercooked roast potatoes, frozen Veg, I also ordered a portion of pigs in blankets , which were just dried up sausages and dried out bacon ! Nicest thing on my plate was the Yorkshire pudding .. not Sure what the situation is at the moment , but the Food quality and the miserable Bar tender will certainly make me reluctant to return in the near future

Had a great evening here with our friends,. Lovely drinks behind bar and great IPA. Probably the best pub/resruraunt food I've encountered for a very long time. All food and service was perfect, tasty, good presentation and good size portions. Starters for us all was chicken strips with dip and I had squid. For mains we had Beef cheeks(so nice) , ham hock and haddock. All of it was perfect, followed by different deserts but if I'm honest, not much room left by this time. Lol. Service both at the bar and in resruraunt was also great. Will definitely return and spread the word. We'll done to all the team.

MORE AT Google

I had the grave misfortune of dining at this establishment during what was supposed to be a charming evening date. First impressions were deceptive - the pub appeared cosy, with a lovely atmosphere, and the lit path from the rear car park to the restaurant was genuinely enchanting. Little did we know this fleeting moment of charm would be the only highlight of the night. The experience began to unravel the moment we stepped through the door. We stood awkwardly by the entrance, ignored by the front of house, who seemed more engrossed in communing with the till than acknowledging paying customers. Considering we'd just entered through the rear door by the car park, it would have been prudent for him to mention the need to register our vehicle. Of course, this was not forthcoming, leaving me to chase it up myself - a tedious chore that should never be necessary. We were eventually seated at what seemed a cosy table by the fire. At last, a silver lining, or so we thought. Five minutes later, the wait staff arrived to take our order - two pork roasts and drinks. The drinks arrived shortly after, though one was wrong. I decided not to make a fuss, politely pointing it out but agreeing to drink it regardless - mistakes happen, right? Little did I realise this would be the least of the evening's offences. Forty-five minutes passed. No food. We flagged down a member of staff to inquire, and their response was as baffling as it was infuriating: they had lost our order. Lost it? Pray, how did they manage to deliver sides for an order they supposedly couldn't locate? The whole explanation smacked of disorganisation and thinly veiled excuses. Nevertheless, we were relieved when our food finally emerged, albeit underwhelmingly lukewarm and dismal in every conceivable way. The so-called roast was a travesty. The potatoes, if one could call them that, were an abomination - cardboard masquerading as food, stale and soggy in equal measure. The vegetables were a tragic sight: wrinkled, lifeless, and clearly aged beyond their prime, seemingly exhumed from a countertop where they'd languished for hours. As for the pork, it was an insult to roasts everywhere - fatty, rubbery, and, inexplicably, adorned with grill marks. Grill marks! On roast pork! Who thought this culinary Frankenstein was acceptable? To call it "express pork" would be generous - it was more like reheated regret. The gravy was the final indignity. Watery, insipid, and utterly devoid of flavour, it resembled dishwater with a brown tint. It didn’t enhance the meal - it sabotaged it. The lone redeeming element, if you can call it that, was the stuffing, though its meagre 3cm cube portion was laughably inadequate. The side dishes were no better. The cauliflower cheese was an unholy alliance of undercooked cauliflower and overpowering mustard, with any trace of cheese conspicuously absent. The pigs in blankets, meanwhile, were pale, undercooked, and frankly terrifying. We didn’t dare risk consuming them for fear of joining the local A&E’s pork-poisoning register. We raised our concerns with the wait staff, only to be met with a casual, "We’ve had a lot of people complain about the roast today." Oh, marvellous! Thank you for that little nugget of reassurance - truly, the cherry on this culinary catastrophe. In a gesture of atonement, we were offered free puddings as compensation. But after enduring the horror show that was the main course, we were in no mood to tempt fate. Needless to say, we left the food untouched, settled the bill (yes, we paid for this misery), and made our swift escape. Salvation came in the form of a late-night Five Guys in Winchester town, where a simple burger and fries felt like dining at the Ritz in comparison. This experience was nothing short of an utter disgrace. It was not a meal, it was a culinary crime scene. For a venue with such promise, it failed spectacularly in every conceivable way. Save your time, money, and stomach - this establishment is a disaster dressed in cosy decor.

Bit disappointing. Ordered garlic bread at £3.49 and was served with one small thin slice of bread and a scraping of garlic butter. Main courses were okay. For dessert, we ordered mini desserts (trifle) with tea or coffee. The trifle served was just a tiny piece of sponge topped with a tiny bit of whipped cream (we were expecting a little jelly and possibly a small piece of fruit with the sponge and cream to resemble a traditional trifle and at least a couple of spoonfuls to enjoy whereas we were served with barely one teaspoonful!). Also, we were given hot frothy milk with our pots of tea,! The waitress seemed surprised when we politely asked if we could have cold milk with our teas. It was an expensive evening and not sure we'll return any time soon.

To be honest it spoilt a trip down memory lane as we have used this pub on and of for 50 years but that went out of the window . Food was great really enjoyed it, service was shockingly bad, missed orders, didn't clear plates , tried to deliver a dessert to a table with lots of empty plates , but didn't thing to make room by clearing it. Coffee cups are ridiculously small, why be mean when its only about a bit more water!

Got to be one of the worst Indian meals in a long time, half tandoori chicken was so dry and aged looking. People were nice enough, I didn’t complain as don’t want to get into it, I was only visiting the area but definitely won’t be going back. Shane as nice little square…

Very interesting place to visit. Historically a must for those who are military buffs.

Cracking meal. I had pretty low expectations but couldn’t have been more wrong. The salmon and squid ink pasta was fantastic. The chicken was lovely. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. They’re obviously trying which is great to see.

Delivery time was great however I ordered a 6 piece pizza box and when the items arrived the pizza was all squished together and damaged as the box hadn’t been handled with care / hadn’t been handled flat like the instructions ON THE BOX say so.
