fast friendly service, food was lovely and presented with just that little extra attention to detail the prices were reasonable too. They are very dog friendly. We just thought the garden though very pleasant could do with tidying up ..a ripped gazebo and things left lying around but on the whole would recommend and we will definitely return.

Four of us stopped for lunch on the hoof as we were passing through the tiny village. What a stop it was! The staff greeted us as we walked through the door and seated us quickly even though we had no booking. The sever was polite, friendly and cheerful. The food came out In good time. The steak and ale pie was packed to the crust with meat, with very tasty pastry. The fish and chips were a great sized portion. Light and crispy batter and beautifully cooked thick chunky chips. The brisket burgers were divine and ull of flavor. I highly recommend a stop here for food!

Food was fantastic. Burgers were excellent and the brisket was delicious. However the service was terrible. Not offered drinks, sat at a totally inappropriate table with high up chairs with children, not offered desert. We were also seated in the area next to the kitchen which felt totally abandoned and were just listening to the kitchen staff argue with each other. The table was also wobbly which is a pet hate of mine at any restaurant or pub. The other thing we noticed sitting so close to the kitchen was the inconsistent portion sizes. My burger had a small amount of brisket on it and a small portion of chips, however the same meal being taken to other tables had a huge pile of brisket and a massive portion of chips. Left feeling disappointed.

Looked online at the menu as we were hiking in the area on a Wednesday. We were given the full main menu and when we enquired which were the selected main courses on the walkers menu (Wednesday-Fri, £10 per meal), we were told they weren’t doing them today as they weren’t open the day before???? They were happy enough to give us the main menu so obviously had the food in for those so why not the walkers menu (selected main courses but probably smaller)? Misrepresentation, no apology, so we left (on principle) and ate in Baslow which was super.

Me and my girlfriend went on a local hike around Curbar before stopping in here just after midday opening. We both ordered the Moroccan shredded lamp with pitta and hummus. The meal took about ten minutes to arrive, which was very quick, so we both commented that couldn't be a good sign; it seemed far too quick for a good quality meal to be prepared. Although, I do think we were the first order of the day, which could explain the speed. However, I would say this was one of the best pub meals I've ever had. I could not pick a single fault with anything. I actually wanted to order another it was that nice. We will definitely return for a longer hike and another exceptional meal, hopefully.

Not good for allergies, otherwise so-so. We booked a month in advance for a group of 10 and emailed about an allergy to check ahead and this was all accepted. When we arrived it was announced that they are a ‘cross contamination kitchen’ and shellfish/crustaceans are cooked in the same fryer as every other item (including chips) meaning they couldn’t really cater for the allergy, they could offer one meal choice of ‘cooked chicken, vegan mayo and salad’ , it was begrudgingly accepted and barely touched . I’m amazed that with a months notice on a booking, that I’d guess would have generated a minimum £250, they couldn’t have taken the trouble to exchange an email with options or be honest about the limitations upfront . Generally, the service was fair and the other food orders were not particularly well received + the first drink order cocked up. We didn’t trust them with dessert and I’m not sure we were offered a second round of drinks so went elsewhere for more drinks and dessert . Bit of a shame really as it’s a good location.

Popped in as passing and on the off chance on bank holiday Monday. So pleased we did. Apparently not usually open on a Monday, but we hit the jackpot. Suitable for the whole family a great choice of really tasty food, cooked fresh and served piping hot. I opted for the cheeseburger today but the whole table enjoyed their choices (bubble and squeeze and the carver chicken got particular raving reviews!). Cosy, traditional pub that's a bit of a tardis, great layout as you don't feel on top of any other tables there. Staff were busy but genuinely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had the pulled brisket topped burger and pork schnitzel after sharing a gorgeous baked Camembert with a lovely bread and salad. Can’t fault the service either for friendliness or checking in on us so would still highly recommend. For us, it’s the best pub in Calver and I hope it remains so. This is a menu written by a chef who clearly loves his craft. The worst part of this meal was having to decide on just one of a series of enticing and well-thought out menu options. I ate venison stew; the stew was rich and hearty with the meat stewed to perfection. The sage dumplings were light, airy and aromatic. The braised red cabbage was balanced and the venison butter was absolutely delicious. The staff were also attentive and personable. All in all a fantastic experience and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

We called in after a very long, very chilly walk with our two children. Front of house were really friendly and offered us a choice of where to sit. The menu was great - something a bit different to your usual and so we picked pork belly gyros and chicken tikka kebab, both were really tasty. The children had fish and chips which were both really good sized portions and the fish looked delicious. Waitresses were all very friendly and attentive. It was very cold where we sat, in the restaurant to the side of the bar. They obviously had tried to warm it up with some plug in heaters and the fire was going in the other room. We would definitely come back, it’s a pub we’ve driven past a hundred times and never considered!

Very, very disappointing! We are regular customers of this “ sister “ pub the Derwentwater arms Calver. We are local people and thought we would just give the Bridge a try for a lunchtime sandwich, and compare. We ordered the hot pork sandwiches……..the pork was a small portion with soggy crackling served on soggy bread, the salad was soaked in what tasted like vegetable cooking oil. Very poor value for £30.00 including a beer, and Pinot Grigio with soda. When the girl from the bar collected our plates, the amount left showed it was not an enjoyable meal, she did ask,and we said it was o.k,,and would pass our comments on to the chef. We did expect for him to appear as at the time we were the only people in the pub,but he didn’t,t,so poor customer service. Having said this the girls behind the bar are friendly., , but we will never go back. There are far better pubs in the area with better food.

Went for a crimble celebration meal yesterday. My friend and I hadn't booked, just searched for a nearby pub after a walk. Firstly, the wine came...a sumptuous merlot. The meal that arrived was honestly the best food I've tasted in years. 👍The flavours and textures were beautifully balanced and thought out, plus the presentation was lovely. The staff were attentive & polite, furthermore the atmosphere was very welcoming and cosy with a lovely fire towards the front entrance. Thank you to all for a truly memorable meal. It can only be equalled by the William & Victoria in Harrogate or the now ruined Crooked House in Dudley ran for years by my brother's friend (my bro was a head chef). 😋 There are vegan options too. Very disappointed. This was a return visit having been with family last year. On that occasion we enjoyed the food, the service and the surroundings. We returned today with visitors to the area. We were embarrassed by the very poor quality food. Staff were pretty unhelpful and hardly welcoming. We arrived mid afternoon and it was not busy - so there was no excuse for lack of customer service. But worst of all the food was not at all appetising. Sandwiches on large white bread hotdog type rolls - wet soggy bottoms - dry black bean burger. However the Chicken Caesar salad was the only meal enjoyed. No one asked if we were happy with the food! It looks like the pub is under new management since our last visit but we won’t be returning.

We called for lunch in the pub garden on our way home after Chatsworth show. Unfortunately the outside area was really scruffy & tired looking, with rubbish strewn around on the ground & 3 tables left uncleared for a long time. There seemed enough staff & all pleasant enough but it felt they were very inexperienced without an obvious manager on site. The food was then very disappointing, bland, really poor quality chips & the salad leaves were old, wilted & turning yellow. The food was fairly priced for fresh village pub food quality but ended up being very expensive for inedible pub chain quality food. The staff didn’t question at all why we hadn’t eaten most of our food. You’d hope for a lot more in a village pub. We left genuinely hungry & very disappointed

Extremely upset with this pub if you have allergies Avoid!! I was told that the food was to be gluten free as i have ceoliac disease and after being poisoned by gluten I had to have 4 days off work being violently ill . They said they take it seriously but scibbling in a price of paper does not mean you take it seriously. After my wife notified the staff about the issue as I was too ill to contact them they responded to say my wife was threatening and didn’t even apologise! There are many pubs in the area use those instead as they do far better food with better allergy menus . We will never go back as we were massively mistreated

My wife & I had lunch yesterday (Sunday) for 1st time, (having enjoyed Derwentwater Arms - same owners - many times). Nice pub with several eating areas including a large outside lawn at the riverside. Warm welcome from friendly & attentive staff. Chose the Tempura Vegetables as starter. Veggies were great, but it came with an overpoweringly salty soy sauce dip. Thankfully this was promptly replaced by a sweet chilli dip which was fine. We had the Sunday Roast to follow, which was ok, but a few things could be better. We both prefer gravy and veg served separately, but the plates arrived swimming in gravy and some of the veg (parsnip & roast potatoes) were tough instead of crisp on the outside. Yorkshire puddings were slightly burnt and rather tasteless. Red cabbage was great! Beef was ok, but my wife found her pork a bit dry. Finished up with the Bakewell slice & custard, which was fine. I know its only a sample of 1 visit, but overall there's some work to do re food to come up to the standard of Derwentwater Arms. Seems like a great front of house team!
