The Braxted Bakery in Braintree

Hadn't been intending to visit, but stumbled across the Bakery quite by accident... what a pleasant surprise! Busy, but in a very organised manner, the ladies efficiently dealt with an unexpected influx of customers. The bakery is small but has a number of outside tables too, so room for all! As for the food, just delicious! My husband and I both had sandwiches but served with a salad and slaw, with crisps on the side...super tasty! I'd have loved a slice of home made cake, all of which looked amazing, but will save that for another visit. Just lovely... homely welcoming and definitely worth a visit! Thank you!

what a little gem of a place this is, down a little country lane in the middle of open fields. lies this gorgeous little Tea room, it is my favourite place to eat. The food is always freshly prepared, and everyday there is a new cake to try on the counter. They serve a fabulous cooked breakfast, and delicious lunches. They don’t have a huge menu, but they do try to cater for everyone. They serve homemade cakes including vegan choices. And there is a forever changing specials board. Dogs are welcome on the grassed areas outside, where there are ample places to sit and eat. (on a dry day) I ate there twice last week and I’m looking forward to going again today.

I had heard of the Braxted Bakery but never visited up till now and we’ve lived fairly locally for 21 years. Myself and my daughter went on my birthday recently (won’t say the number !). We were greeted and asked to take a seat. A lovely friendly and smiley lady came and took our order for drinks and for the food. My daughter had the full English and I had the bubble and squeak with eggs and bacon. As it is all freshly cooked, there is a small wait and it was totally worth it. I normally take pictures of the food but was too hungry to bother with that. Food was lovely, service great. There are some lovely cakes to choose from if you are having a tea but we went about 11am so it was kind of a brunch really. We’ll definitely visit again to try their lunches. Everything we had was lovely. We’ll be back very soon hopefully

Well what a fun breakfast we had service & food was excellent there was 8 adults plus 4 children and everyone us enjoyed never was to much bother for staff who looked after us well considering are large gathering can’t Thankyou enough 10/10 And it wasn’t just the grandchildren that enjoyed the train ride 🥳 It’s was a very busy morning and the staff was super friendly and very helpful

Afternoon Tea in the Pullman train. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful and it was great fun riding round the track! The Staff were really friendly and most helpful! Would thoroughly recommend!

I was recommended the Braxted Bakery by a colleague so decided to pay a visit with my wife. I am glad we did as it was thoroughly enjoyable. The food was excellent and cooked really nicely. I had the English breakfast as did my wife and it tasted lovely and was plentiful in portion size. Being incredibly greedy I could not resist the cakes and they too were very good. All in all the price was reasonable too. However it gets really busy - and I totally understand why. But it does impact on service times which to be fair to the staff, they pointed out. However maybe additional staff in the kitchen or on the hot drinks would have reduced the waiting if that is viable due to physical space. But that is only a small gripe. The service was really friendly and the setting, seemingly in the middle of nowhere and the way it's furnished make this place a definite for a further visit.

Have eaten here a number of times for Breakfast and afternoon tea and have always had a really good meal. Unfortunately this time w edidn't have such a good experience. The older lady who was serving and taking orders was quite rude and sarcastic when arriving, ordering and serving. The food was good but didn't seem up to the usual standard so all in and considering the high bar previously set it wasn't as good. Hopefully this is a one off and if we return the whole experience will be better.

What a wonderful little place to come for an afternoon tea. The place is tucked away in a little village. The staff are very welcoming and attentive. The food is lovely! Especially the afternoon tea!

With an unpretentious homely vibe, this quaint venue serves delicious homemade food. Perfect place to treat friends/family. Super friendly staff who even rustled up birthday candles & poached eggs even tho v busy. They all work v hard so please be generous with a tip (that they do not ask for either). A rare gem & delighted to rate as 5 stars. The bubble & squeak is v hard to resist - as is the wide variety of cakes & pastries if that is your thing. Just be aware afternoon teas need 48hr notice & it is better to speak to someone rather than leave a message as the reply came too late for me!

Still a brilliant place for Lunch. The sandwiches (sausage baguette)and Bubble and Squeak are always spot on. Never been for breakfast but hear it’s great. Never had room for the homemade cakes but they look really good. Phone ahead and book on weekends and holidays.

Had a fantastic festive afternoon tea at Braxted Bakery today, all the food was superbly fresh and resourced locally or made in-house - the scones particularly were some of the best we’ve ever eaten, added to mulled wine and as much tea and coffee as we could drink we had a great time in this beautifully cosy tea room

Christmas afternoon tea was absolutely gorgeous, loads of choice and everything was so fresh. The mini prawn cocktails were a lovely addition, and the scones and mini meringues melted in your mouth. Highly recommend!

Said dogs allowed on Google maps and on their door - but only outside!? Travelled for half an hour to get there and as it was a cold November day, sitting outside was not an option. Went to the White Hart at Little Waltham - part of a small chain and very nicely furnished and what's more, dogs are very welcome.

Arrived at The Bakery to order a superb Flat White followed by The best Bubble and Squeak I’ve eaten, side of black pudding and sausage topped with an egg. Wow what a choice. It’s a must visit for all.

Decided to have a spot of lunch with my mum today and wasn't disappointed. The food was amazing and so fresh, the bubble & squeak was divine whilst my mum had the bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich. Drinks were nice, the pink hot chocolate was silky and yummy. Overall a lovely place to eat and have lunch - they offer afternoon tea which looks amazing. We’ve previously had a wonderful experience here but sadly this tea rooms is so lacking in.... courtesy and embiance. We phoned to book and told “there will probably be a table outside” We walked in the rain to Braxted bakery and it was raining when we arrived at 11.45 for just Tea and cake to be told fully booked. We asked if we could sit insid until reservations arrived, no they are arriving at 12. When we left at approx 12.30 there were a lot of tables still empty and we had to sit in a shelter outside.If we had been told “sorry we are fully booked at lunch tomorrow” we would have gone somewhere else for our walk. As a earlier reviewer said, their heart doesn’t seem in it and I know it must be difficult at this time but business for them is booming so it should make them a lot more cheat fuel and accomodating.

A lovely lunch out in the garden. The staff are always friendly. It's a little slower at the moment due to the reduction in staff because of social distancing in the kitchen, but it's definitely worth the wait. The specials are always a bit different, so worth a try. We will keep coming back.

Stopped here for brunch after visiting Witham, a little difficult to find but the Sat nav did it with the post code. Our visit was during the social distancing period, measures in place, outside and seating in the open to the side lean-to was fine. Had an excellent lunch on Friday at Braxted Bakery, Coronation Chicken sandwich and Nachos, which could not be faulted. We were sat in the side room, plenty of space and all social distancIng measures were adhered too. Staff friendly and efficient.We will be returning soon.

This was one of our favourite brunch venues and we do understand how difficult is it to run a busy cafe in the current situation. However we were so looking forward to finally eating out and booked a table for Sunday brunch.Getting into the cafe was difficult as there was no clear entry as there were tables everywhere, when we finally sat down and ordered. Unfortunately the cafe had run out of breakfast essentials - to not have enough food to provide a full breakfast at 11am is poor especially if a table has been booked. The waiting time for our drinks was over 30 minutes and we never received the water requested. The staff were extremely busy but walk in orders appeared to take priority. I really hope things get sorted out but we won’t be back unless we hear that things improve. Such a shame as it was the perfect place for a relaxed brunch.

This really is a lovely tea room and pleased they are able to open under such trying times and I’ve given an excellent review before But this time Service was awful the lady owner all but chucked our food of the table, with out asking who had ordered what the food come at different time when we had all ordered the same , then she stood chatting with a customer while holding our the next lot of food she was bring out no conversation with us what so ever No thank you for coming nothing Sadly as much as my friend enjoyed the food not sure she will go back I really do hope this improves her attitude towards her customers , we are her bread and butter The waitresses was much better but definitely over run with it all

Nice selection of food in this country restaurant. Well prepared and tasty. Free parking close to restaurants. Particularly nice in the summer with out side seating. The down side is the narrow road leading to it.

We were visiting a small industrial area down the road and passed The Braxted Bakery on route. We were advised they were worth a visit and so we did. We were not disappointed at all, the food is all homemade and cooked fresh to order. I was surprised to see it so busy, given how out of the way it feels. When we arrived at 1pm the main area was full, so we sat in the Garden Room, which is heated and perfectly cosy. There is also an undercover seating area with blankets provided for cold days. The food was quite simply scrumptious. We are going to be regular visitors. Definitely a hidden gem!

My husband and I visited here on Valentine's Day. It is a little gem. The food is very yummy with some dairy free alternatives (a big plus for me). The staff are friendly and very helpful. This was our first visit but will definitely not be our last. A perfect Valentine's treat. We loved it. ❤

A light lunch with three friends turned out to be an excellent day. Beautiful home cooked food, could have eaten all from the extensive menu!Quaint and quirky, this made the atmosphere a joy. This used to be a great tearoom with great staff. Don’t know what’s happened but it’s gone down hill, as though they have lost interest. Been there twice now when one of the ingredients is missing from the meal and they tell you once they are serving it! If you told me when I ordered I would have changed my order. Don’t appreciate the dogs loose in the lorry park either when your trying to park, we will be finding a new tearoom to use. Real shame ☹️

Having Coeliacs disease I am usually the one who misses out on having what everyone else does while looking on enviously and it is definitely more noticable when cakes are involved! My dietary needs were not only met but I had the most delicious desserts I'd had in a long time. The service was always with a smile despite having to cater for a lot of chatty women and the ambiance was lovely. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Booked the private room for my friends baby shower. They were so lovely and accommodating. We had a vegetarian, gluten free, diabetics and a nut allergy and they were able to accommodate all that. The room was set up beautifully and we could decorate it with banners, balloons etc. It was all perfect and very delicious. We would highly recommend braxted bakery.

We have been wanting to go and try this place for a while and decided to have a ride out one afternoon. After going on the wrong road and riding round for a little while, we wasn’t disappointed. It’s a little off the beaten track but worth the visit. Only had coffee and cake but coffee was good and so was the cake. All homemade and all looked lovely, had difficulty deciding which one to have!! Will be back to try the lunches.

Fantastic choice of breakfast, lovely friendly helpful staff with a calming relaxing atmosphere. Cakes are available tooand are very yummy.
