Great starters. Mains were not as good. My partners steak was unseasoned but cooked perfectly. My twice baked soufflé was milky and a little bland. Salad accompaniment was delicious. Wine was different to expected as a Nebbiolo, a little fizz on the tongue. Service was excellent really professional. Table a little small and tucked under a low part of the ceiling where I hit my head as I stood up. Really nice vibe but we expected more from the mains.

Chosen as a convenient spot to meet friends, I was surprised by this restaurant tucked away in a quiet Hammersmith street. Of course, it may get busier in the day. Not a huge menu, but plenty of choice. Good wine list.

I went there for dinner and while the food was pretty good, I felt that the wine really let them down. The list looked good and was limited to about 20 wines - I chose one white and one red bottle costing £29 and £39 respectively but I was appalled when they were both brought to the table already opened. In fact, the couple at the next table ordered a bottle of red but it ran out after two glasses so it obviously wasn’t a full bottle in the first place. This is completely unacceptable in the most basic restaurant, let alone one that “only serves one type of beer as it prides itself on its other drinks”. I shall not be going back.

I had heard some good things about The Brackenbury so I was looking forward to a very pleasant evening. The Restaurant itself is tucked away in a quiet road near Hammersmith and looked warm and festive when we arrived. It certainly didn't disappoint in this regard. Let me start by saying that the waitresses were friendly and efficient. The menu while limited looked interesting, though with two vegetarians in our party it didn't really cater for them. The food overall was average and lacked the imagination and flavour I had at least been expecting. Indeed I had to send back my rather bland guinea fowl because it was stone cold. When it returned it was at least warmer though still tasteless. The other mains got from 'ok' to 'i enjoyed mine' so pretty hit and miss really. Certainly no rave reviews. The cost of the meal was on the high side for the quality of the food presented. Perhaps they were having a bad evening but if they have too many of them I am not sure how many more evenings they will be open.

The Brackenbury has legendary status amongst those of us lucky enough to live in the Village and this is why. I emailed today saying I wished to take my daughter out to dinner tonight but wished to check whether they catered for vegans. I was reassured that the chef did. But the chef went one further. He produced an impromptu vegan menu which had a choice of starters and main courses and then wrote it out by hand for my daughter. Nothing is too much trouble here. The menu was so good that I chose a vegan starter too - fresh girolles from Scotland on toast - which we shared and savoured. It was spectacularly good. I then had roast partidge with a creamy girolles sauce and brasied radicchio while my daughter feasted on porcini and girolles and polenta and spinach. This was a magnificent autumnal feast served up with friendly repartee. The chef coming out to say hello was the icing on the cake. A special thank you to our chef and, as I say, il vaut le voyage. You will not regret it.

We stayed at the Novotel London West for a family theatre trip and looked for a decent restaurant nearby. The Brackenbury came up as a 15-20 minute walk so we booked and had a leisurely stroll through the streets to the restaurant enjoying trying to guess the price of the odd small 2 bed terrace house for sale ( about the same as a 12 bed mansion with pool in Nottingham according to Rightmove!!)The restaurant looked very welcoming on a bright sunny afternoon with outside tables and big open doors across the front of the property. More importantly the staff were also very welcoming and although we dined right at the end of a sitting we were never rushed. At first glance I had suspected the menu might be a little limited for us as a family as we all tend to try different dishes but have fairly similar tastes. I ended up choosing two starters( a pasta dish and a salad) as my main course just to try a variety of dishes between us. When our food arrived it quickly put at ease any fears I had. Everyone really enjoyed their food and my two dishes were genuinely exceptional and a perfect combination for a sunny afternoon .Whilst the food was great more note worthy was the friendly warmth of the staff - nothing was too much trouble and our waitress was both enthusiastic and charming with my two children. We genuinely had a great meal and I often don't review too many restaurants from our couple of family trips to London a year as they are usually very underwhelming but not here - added to this the sense of having made a "real find" to get there it made for a great afternoon meal in London and very worthy of a 5star review!

and some were very underwhelming, I'm afraid.I avoid giving bad reviews, but I simply wasn't impressed with the food I was served last Friday lunch - although other people chose better than I.Started with some oysters, which were appropriate served, and very good.I went on to have 'spiced fish broth with croutons, mussels & rouille'. It came in a meanly small bowl, was tepid, devoid of 'spice' and the many mussels were gritty. The slice of croutons had delicious garlicky rouille, but overall it was not a memorable bowl of soup. This was followed by 'baked ricotta' - and assorted veggie stuff. Again, very forgettable.Plus points were an excellent board bean salad: fresh and delightful for a spring day.Dover sole with braised fennel was also delicious.Almond tart and rhubarb was excellent.I appreciate having a daily menu of seasonal ingredients, of offering unusual and interesting dishes - I just choose badly. At over £50 p/h, I would have appreciated some bread.

I tend to write reviews when I'm on holiday as it's a good way for me to remember where I've been. I rarely review my regular haunts and actually thought that was rather remiss or me. I had such a lovely lunch today on a big table with friends and family that I wanted to say thank you to the restaurant but also to encourage others to seek it out if it isn't in their locale.I had a beetroot salad with walnuts, whipped goats cheese, watercress and walnuts to start and Dover sole with capers, fingerling potatoes and a melting fennel which was just so GOOD. Great wine list and cocktails. Others had mixtures of starters and mains and puddings and everyone was very happy. The baked ricotta main was v good (tasted by me). We had lots to eat, two bottles of wine, 8 cocktails (!!!) some puddings, teas and coffees and it was approx £45 a head which I think is pretty good for the high standard of cooking and service, love it.

Second recent visit and food was generally excellent But for a restaurant with its background some amazing shortfalls.Oysters served without any form of bread.A good Bordeaux served in cheap glasses when fine glasses were on display. An old Bordeaux which although very good was heavily sedimented and should have been decanted.A dessert which is described as crumble which turned out to be a trifle with a sprinkle of crumble on the top . When I had a moan they took the price of th crumble off the bill but no apology. Generally this is a laid back local restaurant with tasty food . For the price charged the staff need to be a little better trained and a good manager is needed. On the 2 occasions I have been including Saturday night the restaurant was only quarter full so maybe I am a not the only one that thinks Brackenbury is losing its touch . My recent dinner at this medium-sized restaurant in the charming Brackenbury Village area of Hammersmith in West London could not be faulted. Every item my partner and I ordered was excellent, from the delicious mini-starters (croque anchois, devilled eggs & smoked cod's roe), through to the spectacular twice-baked soufflé and stunning risotto with ox cheek and bone marrow, and finally a fantastic rhubarb crumble.French head waiter Olivier (ex-Chez Bruce, River Café) dispenses helpful advice about both menu and wine, and British chef-patron Humphrey Fletcher (ex-Kensington Place, Glasshouse, River Café) was happy to chat at our table.Overall, one of the best dinner experiences I have ever had. I am a Londoner and a resident of Hammersmith for ten years. I'm truly delighted to have this restaurant as a local. Think Michelin star cooking in terms of the quality of what you're tasting at gastro pub prices, i.e. great value. This restaurant and the unfairly stellar reviews that the Andover pub just across the road receives shows the total idiocy of Trip Advisor, i.e. it's all relative. So many of the rave reviews of the andover are from tourists (check the locations of reviewers) so they are charmed by 'an authentic London pub'. The sad truth is and I say this living two streets away from the andover and having drunk their for ten years is its been swamped by tourists and is about as authentic a London back street pub as Disneyland Buckingham Palace. Meanwhile the Brackenbury kicks out food that is infinitely better at the same price. If you're local or a tourist go to the Brackenbury to eat and the andover to have a pint. I know this may sound biased, but being a local it just irritates me that the guys really knocking it out of the park, are not getting as much credit as they deserve. By that I mean they get good reviews, but they deserve great reviews.

We had a fab dinner here last Saturday. It was our first visit to The Brackenbury and it lived up to the previous reviews. There were five of us and four of us had different starters. I had girolles on mash potato which sounds quite ordinary but was utterly delicious. The mash was silky and sauce perfect. Girolles can be gritty but not these. My partner had a fish soup which he loved. We also had the Croque Anchois as an appetiser and these were so good that I want to try to cook them at home. Between us we had steak, partridge, lamb and souffle and everyone was happy. The bavette was ordered rare and it was just right. I had partridge which came with chicken liver parfait on toast and celeriac puree which was delic. Puds and cheese followed, all really sound. The service was spot on, friendly without being intrusive. The timing between the courses was good too. This place is pleasingly informal and cosy. If you want silver service or fussy or ultra trendy cooking go somewhere else. Perfect for what we wanted. Wines were nice. Quite pricy but really good. Good advice on choice of wines from our waitress.

Highly recommended, lovely food and lovely people. We were with a large party for a business dinner, the Brackenbury which is a small restaurant were extremely accommodating with the menu options. Every dish received great reviews from our group, in particular the veal cheek risotto which was by far the best risotto I have ever tasted. The chocolate, espresso and hazelnut tart is an absolute must for chocolate lovers - like no other chocolate dessert this was absolutely outstanding. I would go to great lengths to ensure a return visit for this alone!

Visited for lunch with girlfriends. We have just moved into the area and really want to support this lovely local restaurant. The food is delicious, freshly prepared and imaginative. The restaurant itself is very attractive with a really nice terrace for al fresco dining. We were served by a most charming waitress, friendly and helpful. We mixed and matched between the set lunch and a la carte and she worked it out in our favour when it came to the bill. The restaurant is a little off the beaten track but well worth the detour.

This was a new and unique experience for us but as a novice wine drinker it was great to be able to taste the wine before ordering a glass or a bottle. As for the food by 10 understandably they had run out of 2 or 3 of the main courses - so considering there was only 5 originally & a selection of steaks the choice was limited.

Had lunch here with a few friends. It's a local restaurant with a homely feel which we liked.Staff were nice, but above all the a la carte food with wine was quite pricey for what is basically gastropub quality food. We had a couple of veggies in our party, and the plates were really small and expensive (£7.50 for some asparagus in Shepherd's Bush!) . OK wine list. We left with the feeling that we didn't get good value for our money.

A nice local restaurant and people living nearby must be very pleased to have this on their doorstep. It all looks nice, nicely decorated, nicely set tables, tables (inside at least) decently spaced. A good start. Whether it is worth a long journey is more doubtful; to be realistic it hovers between 3 stars (main courses generally felt to be 'very average', wine by the carafe rather sour) and five stars (starters were all excellent). No bread provided. I have no idea what their ambition is but with a little more effort in the kitchen it could be really superb - we found good fresh ingredients but weak and rather tasteless sauces and a very weak 'spicy stew' liquor. Service was professional and polite. Value for this area of London I would think to be good, maybe very good (more local people can judge better than I) - think of £40 a head for two courses and a glass of wine including 12.5% service (and I would much rather service was left to my discretion).

I have known about this place for about 20 years. It is tuckd away in Brackenberry Village, an enclave in Hammersmith that likes to think it is in the Cotswolds. This restaurant is posh, there were certainly a group of posh men drinking wine and getting sozzled when we were in. However the place was relatively quiet but for the Hooray Henry's .As for the food, hmm. An interesting menu but less interesting when dishes arrived at the table. 'Pedestrian' would be the best way to describe it, despite the service being OKish. So, nothing to get excited about, and quite pricey all things considered. There is plenty of competition, particularly from local gastro pubs (and a 90 minute drive puts you in the real Cotswolds).

I have been here three times since it reopened as 'The Brackenbury'.The first time I went it had just opened, a little unrefined (no problem, they were just getting started) but the food was v good. Clams starter a little over salty but the steak bavette is the best I have ever had. Service was excellent by the french front of house (i forget his name). The next two occasions, both for Saturday lunch, were a disappointment, especially the most recent in March. Worth noting that the previous front of house was on holiday both times. They lost our booking so we did not get the table we reserved. The food was poor. Crab linguini seemed to be bulked up with sardine. We asked if we could have one course off set menu and the other off the main for a reasonable price. They said yes.We were charged the full two course set menu price despite only having one course plus the full price for the main menu. The result is that we paid for three courses, got two. This is why it is two stars and not three for me. A feeling of being ripped off is a surefire way to alienate a customer.Service very unfriendly that day too. I haven't written the place off completely. Perhaps foolish but I remember how great the previous incarnation was and hope that they take on board feedback and strive for success. My feeling is that they try to overcomplicate things. This is a local restaurant and one of the best dinners I had 15 years ago was gaspacho followed by a gruyerre omlette and chips. It was sublime. Simple things done exceptionally. I may try one more time in a few months depending on what my friends say.

Had a delicious meal at The Brackenbury. Lovely fresh menu. Perfect portions of tasty food BUT be patient. Been twice since it was revamped and the service - though courteous and pleasant - is excruciatingly slow. 20 mins for a glass of water. 30 minutes to order. 40 mins for the first food to come. If you can relax and take that in your stride you will be rewarded with a fine meal at a most reasonable price.

However, we were charmed from the start - choosing what to eat was difficult as the varied menu offered genuine choices of things I really wanted eat. Ham hock confit, followed by venison with Jerusalem artichokes and walnuts and then angel pie with passion fruit proved to be a winner. Service was attentive but not intrusive. The Brackenbury is a great little place and I have been here a couple of times now. The menu is the perfect size - 5 or so starters, main courses and desserts - and the food is fantastic. We had taramasalata and grilled ciabatta with our drinks which was delicious. I then had ham hock croquettes that were just perfect as a starter. I then had baked borlotti, cime di rapa and roasted tomato with deep fried chick pea squares and it was amazing - one of the best vegetarian dishes I have ever had and one that I would choose again and again. Both my friends had the gruyere souffle and said it was fantastic. We finished up with a glass of delicious dessert wine and a square of millionaire shortbread that was indescribably good! All in all a terrific meal. The restaurant itself is cosy and intimate and the waiting staff were really friendly. I agree with some of the other reviews on here that the paper tablecloths and napkins are a bit of a shame but really that is the only tiny criticism I have - I would happily eat here all the time!

We were visiting my fiancé's son, daughter in law and three-month old baby and they took us to this wonderful restaurant for Sunday lunch. We were very well looked after from the moment we stepped through the door, with a comfortable space provided to us in which to park the buggy. The staff were friendly, charming and helpful. The four of us had different starters and mains, all of which were of an equally high standard - each plate was eaten clean. My cheese and spinach soufflé was absolutely delicious. The food was fresh and tasty with a mix of wonderful flavours. Not usually a pudding eater I was tempted by the chocolate terrine with the most delicious pistachio custard. It was absolutely gorgeous! Although this restaurant isn't on a main road it is easy to find and I would highly recommend a little extra effort to locate it - you won't be disappointed. The menu is quite small which is something I prefer; it is very well balanced with something to suit all palates. I hope the Brackenbury continues to do well. We will definitely return. We would like our next visit to be in the evening as we suspect that it could be quite a romantic venue! (Just one point: I do agree with other reviewers with regard to paper tablecloths and napkins)

As we have family living in Shepherds Bush the old Brackenbury was a regular haunt, then sadly it sold up and people moved on. There were numerous tenants none of them great. Now happily the team at the Brackenbury have the restaurant up to the standards you associated with the old establishment. Fresh products married to first class prep and cooking supported by a good cellar.I would happily recommend to anyone, the menu is small but offers a good variation. Plus as a first we had the opportunity to taste agretti something we had not seen or tasted on any menu anywhere!!Good food, hope they do well.

I always feel disappointed when i go in to restaurants and see paper table covers on the tables and not linen ones. Perhaps it's just me, but i feel it somewhat cheapens the place on first impressions. The menu was very fancy with mainly fish and seafood dishes. I'm vegetarian so opted for the veggie main course of polenta with borlotti beans and an aniseed flavoured spinach. I was really hungry as i hadn't had much to eat all day, but there wasn't really a lot of it and i'd finished mine long before the other people i was with had. The food in general was ok, but maybe another vegetarian option instead of just the one would be good. For the price, i think it all could have been better. Absolutely couldn't fault any of the waiting staff however, they were all lovely and very friendly.

Having spent time in the area in the 90s, I was aware of this little gem and was pleased to find it was still there, albeit having been though a number of re-incarnations. Tucked away in a residential street, we found it delightful. We were greeted by Thommaso who was very friendly and welcoming who showed us to our table and took very good care of us all evening.Choosing what to have was difficult because it was all tempting, but I had the fois gras and liver parfait followed by baked cod with leeks and brown shrimp. Both well presented and delicious. I thought the portions were a good size, but sadly didn't have room for pudding. For me they have got this just right. It is simple in its decoration, but warm and inviting serving wonderful food in a very friendly environment.

The Brackenbury was always my favourite place to eat in the 90s. It was everything a neighbourhood restaurant should be, serving sensible but interesting modern-European food at fair prices in a relaxed atmosphere. I was sad - and baffled - to see it decline, close, and reopen briefly as an ill-fated Thai. Now it's back, and the new team has brilliantly recaptured the spirit of the original. Our party of four enjoyed everything we ate, and our bottle of dry Riesling was outstanding. The staff were professional and pleasant, particularly the Italian sommelier who ended up giving us a mini-lecture on Antica Formula (posh red vermouth) with complimentary samples! We shall return, and often.

After being away for sometime, I was delighted to see The Brackenbury had opened, I remembered the old restaurant before it shut several years ago. I booked a table straight away, as I was eager to try the local restaurant. The staff are friendly and welcoming, there is a lovely feel to the place, both when I went into book the table ( at lunch time) and again when I returned that evening for diner. We were a party of three, and we decided to share a starter, which was the prosciutto, it was so good we should have had one each!. To follow, all of us chose different items on the menu, we tried the lamb, the bream and the borlotti, all of our choices were excellent. The portions were the perfect size and cooked to perfection, a wonderful assortment of flavours, none of them over powering. The service is terrific, and well paced, they are attentive but do not hover over you, our waiter was knowledgable about the menu and the wine. We all had a great experience, and are looking forward to returning. So lucky and glad to have The Brackenbury as a local restaurant!

We were very much looking forward to Sunday lunch at the new Brackenbury restaurant and the restaurant on arrival did not disappoint. It has a very nice terrace at the front and the staff are very welcoming. All good. We ordered the bruschetta and parfait to start followed by the fish stew and sole. The starters arrived. The bruschetta was very nice as was the parfait. Exactly as described and good. The main courses unfortunately were a little disappointing. The fish stew is not a stew but a bunch of over cooked fish with none of the broth it was cooked in. We could not understand how it could be called a stew. Why would you be given a spoon when there was no liquid?! Big disappointment. We changed the stew for a pork belly that was quite good. The other main dish, the sole, was ok, though a little overlooked. The vegetables served with it were good but overpowered the flavour of the fish, which was a shame. Chocolate nemesis dessert to follow was great as was expected, a great River cafe recipe. The cheese to follow was a goat which was good but was served with a relish that did not suit the cheese. It needed a sweet chutney sadly we didn't get that. Overall, a bit disappointing. Staff lovely, surroundings very nice. Just think the chefs need to sample what they are dishing up. It just doesn't entirely work at the moment which is a shame. Work in progress....
