Birthday lunch with a friend outside Drinks came quickly food ordered quickly Then it all went down hill Waiter was either overstretched or just not interested Had to ask for water Had to ask for desert menu Had to ask for the bill All very polite He seemed more interested in serving the 2 pretty blonde girls that were either staff or friends Just not what you would expect from a Tom Kitchin establishment with his high standards

Our recent lunch was unfortunately quite disappointing, especially considering the high prices. We are willing to pay for quality, but this meal was far below par. Firstly, the gazpacho was unseasoned and had an incorrect texture. It resembled a very diluted tomato juice rather than a proper gazpacho. For the main course, I had grilled prawns priced at £26, which were completely ruined. The prawns were mushy and tasted awful, which was baffling given the simple nature of the dish. This is our second visit in the last two months, and it seems the quality has not improved. On our previous visit, we were served overcooked, cheap fish with coconut(?!), which was also a letdown. Additionally, my wife’s burger was overdone. Just for the information of Bonnie Badger’s management, a well-done burger is a guideline for health and hygiene, not a legal requirement. Overcooking it ruined the flavour and texture. Overall, our experience was far from satisfactory, and we hope the management takes these issues seriously to improve their offerings.

This is a lovely place it's just a pity we picked the worst weather ever, so much rain so we didn't get to appreciate the lovely outdoor gardens. All the staff were beyond helpful and so chatty, couldn't do enough for us. We were in the rooms outwith the main building which was very nice although my biggest criticism was the lack of seating in the room, there was one wee tiny chair but nothing near the sockets to dry my hair so had to stand which was really uncomfortable. The food was delicious and they brought out 3 complimentary starters which really were delicious, I had the fish pie which was amazing and my husband had the burger which he really liked. So 10 out of 10 for the staff, a credit to the hotel.

Lovely touch of a little cake and candle for our friend. Fast service and lovely modern bar. Have to say Cameron who was our server is such an asset to your team, he served us well and took photos for us and made us all laugh. Great night had by all of us. We will be back.

Booked garden room but on arrival given bar menu. Inexplicably the garden room menu was off because of the bad weather - very puzzling given that the garden room was open and busy enough. Also when has a steak pie at £20 ever come without sides? Honestly a rip off. The desserts were nice. Service was slow and I had requested tea with my dessert but I had to ask for it long after my dessert was finished. Nice place, nice atmosphere but overpriced for what you get. Unlikely to go back.

We stayed here last weekend and having read some of the recent reviews were a little concerned prior to arriving. All I can say is so am so glad we did not change our plans. What a lovely experience. The hotel is lovely, the staff amazing and the food incredible. Our room was very clean and although we were a little worried when we arrive that it may have been affected by outside noise this was not the case at all. Lovely touches such as the choice of toiletries and home made lemonade delivered in the evening. The staff could not have been more helpful. The hotel is a little bit of a warren until you get your bearings (quaint) and if we looked lost someone came over straight away to offer assistance. The girl who served us in the restaurant (sorry I did not get her name) was so chatty and pleasant. Reception were great and when checking out we were given a bag with water and flapjacks which was another lovely touch. The food!! Brilliant. We had the scallops and the asparagus and poached egg to start, followed by haggis and the plaice for mains, finished with a cheese board and a cheesecake. Everything was excellent and very decent size portions. Breakfast was lovely, again with lovely touches such as fruit and yogurt. Will definitely be back!

We were a group of 8 golfers that have been travelling each year together for many years, we have never had such poor service, overpriced, lukewarm and fairly bland food. We had all arrived by 7:40 and left at 10 after only consuming starters and a main course. The staff were slow from the start I ordered a few drinks at the bar when some of us arrived first, we couldn’t wait at the bar, drinks would be brought to us at our table, well that took 10 minutes. A waitress eventually took the remainder of the drinks though we ready to order our food, she said she would do that when the drinks were brought out. We eventually made our food order for starter an main course at about 8pm, the starters then arrived at 8:45 after chasing up, the original waitress we never saw again, then we thought that the mains would arrive quickly, a long wait occurred with many apologies from various levels of staff, we couldn’t see any other tables actually eating so we didn’t understand what could be causing the delay. Eventually the mains arrived at 9:40, well you would expect the fish pie, a steak pie and sausages and mash to be hot, no lukewarm. So why the delay? The menu had Steak pie and Bone Marrow, but all the other main items on the menu had chips or mash with them, but the pie comes on its own with the bone marrow in the middle acting as a pie vent. The Koffmans fries as a side order are just plain chips made to sound better than they really are. The portions were on the small side but most of us were getting past the point of wanting food. The ambience of the place is great, the prices and the fact that Tom Kitchen owns this had led us to expect good service and food, maybe he needs to up his game with this venue. We were offered free coffees and were we interested in desserts, a joke considering the time taken to bring out 2 courses, we were given some cheap Limoncello as a peace offering, but the damage had been done.

I've been here many times and today was very disappointed. Took family for breakfast 3 of us. First had to send toast back it was rock hard, waitress full of excuses instead of just apologising and bringing fresh. Ordered 2 full Scottish breakfasts, at £14.75 was disappointed in portion size, but the whole thing was terrible. Bacon was rock hard as was blackpudding, the only thing edible was eggs and mushrooms. We gave bacon to our dog and even he had problem chewing Same waitress asked how it was and I was honest and told her very disappointing, once again instead of apologising she made excuses and said it was cooked to order. I disagreed as it felt like it had been lying under heat lamp. Will not be back for breakfast

Booked a special family meal for my 50th birthday, and couldn’t have been more disappointed. Food was less than average and prices way above average! Crispy chicken satay starter was basically 4 (tiny) chicken nuggets on salad with beige mayonnaise (not satay sauce) £14.95. Steak and bone marrow pie had about 6 very small pieces of meat which you had to search for, should be renamed gravy and carrot pie for £19.95! Fish and chips arrived with no pies just an empty ramekin £19.95. Wished I’d taken photos to show how bad it was! And the smallest, tasteless burgers I’ve ever tasted £19.95. Decided to skip desserts as so disappointed in the starters and mains. And service was not great either, considering they are Michelin in the restaurant we expected better on a Tuesday night. We won’t be back or recommending to anyone else.

The Bonnie Badger is a pub/restaurant with rooms. We stayed as a stop over on our way up to Loch Torridon. We had a walk around the village and a few drinks in the bar. Its really a pub with sports screens, there were some extremely loud drinkers for most of our time there. It was noisy. Our room was small, the bathroom had a sliding door and there was a space to hang up clothes. To be honest I was disappointed given we’d paid £260 for it. I wouldn’t want to stay longer than one night. Great food in the Stables restaurant, a lovely space and a very nice touch of tea and cookies left outside the door at night and water and flapjack on leaving. Breakfast mediocre.

We stayed at the Bonnie Badger on 12th March having successfully bid for a one night B&B plus Dinner package in a charity blind auction. From the moment we arrived the warmth of the welcome and professionalism of the staff told us that we were in for a great stay. Our en-suite room was beautifully decorated and maintained and had everything we needed. The package included a glass of champagne on arrival with delicious canape style snacks which we had in the garden room. Before dinner we had an aperitif in the bar which seemed popular with both residents and non-residents. An amazing three course dinner in The Stables restaurant followed. We could not fault the food or the service. Breakfast the following morning was equally excellent and we were sad to leave (with complimentary flapjacks and bottles of water for the journey !). I’ve wanted to stay at the Bonnie Badger since it opened but never made it so was delighted when business in the area allowed myself and colleague opportunity to stay over and dine on Monday night . Absolutely superb . When in London always stay Firmdale Hotels ( Soho Hotel mainly ) and the Bonnie Badger had the same sassiness , style , customer service and excellent cuisine . From the moment we arrived the lovely Dara at Reception was honestly one of the best front of house staff I’ve met for many years - exceptional . Rooms were superb - classy , uncomplicated , spacious , immaculate but also , beautifully and individually designed . Only realised on dining that it’s Tom Kitchin and Dominic Jack behind this Gullane delight and wow the Canapés , Beef Shin , Wellington , cheese , Albariño - all superb indeed justifiably award winning . Think server was Vera and utterly superb . Breakfast was excellent and think lady in charge was Georgia and so friendly and efficient . Restaurant was full - on a Monday night in mid March … incredible ! We got chatting to other diners and many were locals who said they come twice a week as so good and such great value . Often stay at the Cartford Inn as halfway house en route to London and Bonnie Badger has similar ambience so , will be using regularly from now on - partner is keen golfer so he’s booking in soon and we’ll be back with dog too as BB is very dog friendly . All in all - would thoroughly recommend to the discerning traveller , golfer , epicurean , etc etc - it’s a 10/10 and genuinely booked to go back in a few weeks time ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was our second time staying here. Although not through choice. The second time was a gift. The rooms are lovely and comfortable. We booked a table at the bar as I wasn't impressed with the stables restaurant last time we stayed. I detest plastic flowers and plants and they are everywhere. We ordered the steak pie and the burger. It looked beautiful, the veg inside the pie and taste was delicious but the meat was very chewy. We informed the waiter who said he would see what he could do. He came back and said" it's not that we don't believe you" we shall take it off the bill and a round of drinks. He then asked if we would like dessert. We said no as I was disappointed in the reply I had received. Believe you!!! So no we won't be back

No doubt about it, the food is very well thought out and beautifully cooked. We all enjoyed our meals and most of us had three courses. (The wine was a little expensive but we didn't have to order it so that is not anyone's fault but our own, however there is only one non-alcoholic beverage unless you drink juice or water, and the waiter let me pour over the pages to find it even though he knew the answer all along - what was that about?) What let the whole experience down were two things: firstly, the long long waits to a) get the menu - twenty minutes (and I had to ask for them), b) another twenty minutes to be asked if we wanted to order (when we clearly had the menus closed on the table), c) after eating the mains another fifteen to twenty minutes for dessert menus and d) another fifteen minutes to be asked what we wanted. All in all this was frustrating. No one minds being left alone to eat and chat but what most people don't like being ignored when you clearly needed service. Then secondly, and this by no means applies to all the staff as the young woman who showed us to our table, and set the table with water and cutlery was lovely, and the young male server who actually served our food was polite and helpful, however, there was a waiter who was rude, condescending and actually the way he spoke to a member of our party was totally out of order. (The drinks menu guy.) I had heard great things about the food, but I am voting with my feet and wallet and I will not be back. If I want to be spoken to as though I am a child I will visit my mother and eat there.

16th October 2023 Wedding - Original Review never arrived so I am now a bit late Attended my Daughter Ruth’s 3 day wedding treat. Arrived on Sunday and all close family went to the beach in afternoon then all got well dressed to Stables dining room for dinner. Monday outdoor Wedding day some had swim at the beach early am. Then could not Believe the effort of all staff having log fire on looking wonderful with so many lights all around. Arrived for my champagne so I could walk Ruth down the aisle listening to Pam signing “Moon River” and “After all those Years” being a very proud mother. Then wedding ceremony and after ceremony we made a corridor for throwing of confetti and all had sparklers to wave them thru. Meal was Fab and a surprise sing along of “A fine wee lass a Bonnie wee Lass is Bonnie Jeannie McColl. Sang by sister Andrena and Grandaughter Flora who both played the spoons and all had words of song printed under their table Matt. What a wonderful reaction to this lot also playing their spoons and dancing around. Staff were overwhelmed and Helped with so much clapping all around. Then John and Andrena’s speech which brought back so so many memories. After all this excitement it was time for first dance and everyone asked to stand on dance floor and was given different coloured feathered Boas on entering to wave whilst dancing then on comes DJ with Barry Manilow singing Copacabana for First Dance. So Exciting then a Saxophone player arrived walking in between all the feather Boas being waved around. The tiered cheese wedding cake of different cheeses was cut and all who wished got a glass of Port until it ran out. How about all the work that went into waiter, waitresses etc. etc. all joining in and making our stay at Bonnie Badger Wonderful. I stayed in the West Links Room and many other had their own garden for their dogs. What a three day extravaganza spoiled by all in the Bonnie Badger
