The Bombay Restaurant in Stevenage

We just ended up being fleeced for a service charge of 5.50!!! On top of £3 extra side dishes on 13.95 each set menu night. This place used to be 12.95 and got so much more included. Just got home to Diarrhea and sickness. Never again here AVOID. Like so many other restaurants in stevenage old town now they ripping you off.

Monday night travelled from Luton airport very hungry the four of us - looking forward to an Indian Restaurant meal. Arrived just before 9pm to an empty restaurant and made most unwelcome. Told it was a 45 minute wait for food and as such would not have time to eat our meal before they closed - but we could have a take away immediately🤔. Just got the vibe they could not be bothered to serve 4 adults spending in excess of £100 - very unwelcoming won’t go back. Strolled down the street to Misya Meze - met with a very warm welcome and outstanding food. So glad we were rejected at The Bombay.

Booked here on friends recommendations - one of the most tastiest Indians ever. Ate with friends, four of us and we each had a different curry and we all loved them! Best Pshweri Nann i have ever had. Only thing that lets the restaurant down is the setting … Food is definitely 5*

Awful oily food and the manager is really rather rude especially to single women. Plenty of other better restaurants around. Drinks are often charged over what they should be. Itd often mainly empty inside so that should tell you alot.

It’s nice place survive it dreadful. I arrived here with my son 10 minutes before a group of men and they got there food first and the survive is slow apart from that nice food

Just had the most amazing curry in the Bombay (Fri. 28/7) They russled up a Methi Gosth for us which isn't on their menu but was first class. Large pieces of lamb & chicken (Madras) which was perfect and good portions of rice & bombay potatoes - 5*

Shocking meal shocking service shocking overall Been here many times went early to beat the rush starters were very good Both ordered chicken mains which arrived looked great but the chicken was uneatable it was hard and could of bounced it off the floor Complained and it was handled terribly, rude to the point of aggressive very poor never again.

The food was average, when we asked for the bill realised we had been charged for a main dish rather than a side dish. Rather than updating the bill the team member called me a liar and refused to update the charge. We explained we hadn’t received what was on the bill and was told tough you need to pay it as you lied! I have never experienced such disgusting customer service, I was called a liar twice and then they demanded I pay for food I hadn’t received along with a service charge after being verbally abused by staff! We paid and left as didn’t see we had much choice and was so embarrassed, wanted a nice meal out but was called a liar, paid for things we didn’t receive and insulted as we left, I can see many other reviews are similar to this! How can they keep getting away with treating people like this!

Cold 4 bits of chicken in sauce! Main course Garlic bread like rubber Rang 5 times kept fobbing me off. Kept passing me from pillar to post. Then said I'd complained before, I hadn't. Said also that was my opinion about the food only and it wasn't cold. It was!!! Apparently not just my opinion according to all the bad reviews on here!! They serve bad food then give me the runaround then tell me there's nothing wrong with it. People don't order food to complain. They just want to eat it. I couldn't. £18 down to the drain.

Speechless after this service Rushed to seat . Best part delivery of pint so quick Asked for onion barge till I decide can’t do that though apparently so cancelled my barge while eating a popadom . Ordered chicken tika tbf good but my cancelled barge came to the table looking like a dead bit of leather . Glad I never paid for that I tipped them , god knows why and got home realized they charge service fee £3.20 . Or was that that the Bargy money back ? Rotten experience shame

Truly awful overcharged. Would not entertain seperate bills. Other reviews have mentioned this. Ordering in a group here was complicated and difficult Manager rude stubborn. And despite several visits with different people and helping desperately to sort the bill just chose to ban all of us after saying we were welcome back . Not good business and there are plenty of better place s to visit. There was only one person in there when I visited. He was especially rude to female members. I'd avoid like the plague.

we ordered a takeaway meal on their web site about 19:30 the meal arrived at 21:20!! When we phoned, they asked which site we used to order we said your own site! We did not know they were taking ordered from several sites like just eats and Deliveroo when we ordered and paid it said 30 to 45 mins, so we paid once paid after 15mins it said your meals delivery update is 21:30! how the hell can you get a delivery time if they are taking orders from several sites, they need to pick one site only then you will get a true delivery time!

Had a great curry here that was perfectly balanced in flavours. Our waiter who was short, fairly built and no hair was very friendly and chatty offering great recommendations.

Bday do @6. For 10 friends. They gove me the table i asled for. When i went in booked. This was not set up when i arrived with my guessed. So they sorted the tables while i watched! We all were seated. Drinks ordee taken. Food Order taken…set menu & other menu. Food was ok. This is where it is a disgrace! The bill was not presented indevidually . Then we all had to add up seperatly. Which everyone that paid by card did. I paid by card next. Then 2 friends paid cash which i was just speaking to the waiter/manager!? To add up…he spoke over me saying he had to go to other people waiting on other tables! I said i am paying you cash ..for the last two.. he spoke over me! Would not let me finish speaking! Was really unprofessional! Really upset me. Had no regard for me trying to sort out the bill! Kept interupting..so i stood up and walked out! “Masogonostic” comes to mind! Also just under a £5 for lime and soda! The friends had! Extortionate !£££ to pay! The bottle of red wine, i never had a taster , so when i did taste the small poured glass, it was slightly fizzy. So sent the bottle bk. Got charged for large. At the end. Rude , not good at all on communication. Having 10friends for my bday. You’d of thought you would as the resterant is …. Getting over £200. As a celebration meal They would of been happy to help.. this was not The case.. They got a few dishes wrong, as The waiters obvously could not understand english, basic stuff for a waiter. The staff were not helpful! Bday was ok till the payment big situation at the end where i walked off outside. As o could not believe the unprofessional way i was being spoken to. You could not oay me to go back in The Bombay….its a” - “ for me. Thanks for a terrible bday celebration! Shocking..how some buisnessess conduct themseves. And get away with it!

We had a superb meal on our last visit to Bombay. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was well-cooked and arrived quickly. Plenty of parking outside too.

We arrived at this restaurant at 1910. Got a table drinks etc. Ordered our food. One hour and 20 minutes later we were about to leave as food hadn't arrived. It came just as we were about to go. Butter chicken waz edible but luke warm, rice was barely warm mixed tandoori meat was inedible and tasted of disinfectant. Absolutely disgusting. Others in the restaurant paid for their drinks and left without eating, got fed up of waiting. There are a lot better places to eat than this in the area and would not waste my time hoping there ever again. Others that left said the same thing.

Love our monthly takeout treat from the Bombay! Always order a Rogan Josh because it is delicious and I’m yet to find a better onion bahji anywhere else!!! 😋

Had the most amazing meal tonight. I had chicken garlic chilli and husband had chicken madras. We had ordered before and found them a tad hot. So tonight we asked for them to be toned down. I cannot tell you just how pleased we were with our meals. Seriously the best curries we have had in a long time. I didn’t realise we could specify our tastes when ordering. The staff handling our order were so accommodating and the delivery chap was pleasant and professional. We had a takeaway tonight but will be arranging a table in the restaurant later this week and will be using this restaurant for our family gathering later this month. Would 100 percent recommend.

we tried a couple of dishes and asked for some modificains for one of our party. The advice and service was excelent, (despilte being late on a saturday night when staf were flagging - they served us and looked after us well. ) Food was good - tried a number o the house specials and they were nicely gooked with a good mix of flavours from well cooked food. Was made to feel extremely welcome as a solo female diner unlike two other local Indian establishments. Were happy to cool dishes not on the menu. Food was excellent hot and tasty. The service was first class. Will be visiting again solo and with friends. Very happy.

Food was excellent but they ripped me off for the coke and lemonades!!!! £28.80 for 2 pints and 4 soft drinks!!!! £4.50 ea for a small lemonade /coke. Syrup cost them 10p at most . So £18 on top, more than the kids mains.

Ordered meal on New years eve, 1 positive was that the meal arrived earlier than the 1 hour 20 min estimate. Paid the guy at the door then when I checked my meal I realized that the Onion Bhaji starter was missing, called them and the reply was that they could bring them out but would be late in the evening or he could add it onto the next meal. I Said not to bother there won't be a next time, Then while eating my main course I found a blonde hair that was about 4/5 inches long so the main had to be binned! Not good so not going to use this shower of sh*t anymore

Not eaten here for a while but decided to join some workmates here for a curry. The Tuesday night offer "starter/main/side/rice or bread" makes it very good value. Service considering it was a tabke of 8 was good, food was good, portion size was a bit on teh tight side. On the whole had a nice experience.

Went to a weekday. Food was nice . Service was good, food arrived on time . Garlic chilli mossala was the best one . I haven’t been that place for long time. Same as before ( interior) . One waiter recognised me and had a friendly chat with him. Was bit busy for weekday . There was only two waiters, they’ve tried their best. Need more people to run the place smoothly. Will recommend highly .

the food is usually good but we got a take away on a Tuesday night about 6 pm the food was so bad not one dish but all of them i phoned to complain i asked is there a new cook tonight they answered yes, i told them how bad the meal was but to be fair the manager apologised and offered me another meal which i declined .

I've been to the Bombay a couple of times now and the food was excellent on both occasions and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I'd recommend trying the saag paneer, lamb bakara and garlic naan, sooo good! Will definitely go again.

Had a meal at The Bombay with friends on Thursday night. Staff were attentive and friendly, excellent choice on the menu, food was served hot and plates were lovely and hot too, which was great. We tried quite a few dishes, and they were all very good. The garlic naan I had was delicious. Will definitely return. Thank you to the team on duty for a great evening :)

Really tasty food. Great flavours. The tastiest Tarka Dahl I've had - beautiful crisp yet soft Naan, lovely balance of flavour if something ce and light chat on the Shashlick. Highly recommended. I'll be back.

I went as a post Christmas gathering with colleagues I volunteer with. We were a large party of over 30 people. We went on banquet night. The staff were friendly and attentive and managed the orders and service well. The food was very nice. Some of the decor is a little dated but the food and service were very good. I would definitely eat here again.

Came here with a couple of friends, we ordered a variety of starters and mains to share - all delicious! I'll definitely be back -I came here years ago and wasn't impressed, but it's now under new management and well worth a visit. Restaurant itself is lovely and efficient and helpful staff too - highly recommended.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the food here. We tend to cook a lot at home and don’t really eat indian out but ventured into the Bombay as we had family visiting. I loved the Chicken tikka, Lamb bakara , and as we love spicy food the Chicken Naga was divine ! Very attentive staff and we would definitely go back .

Came here with a group of friends and we all enjoyed a lovely meal. I’ve been told it’s under new management and things have improved and indeed it has atmosphere was great as was food. I’ve been before on gourmet nights every Tuesday real value for money would recommend.

This is not really an Indian restaurant. They don't really serve Indian cuisine. Items have Indian names but they are totally different.

Whilst working in Stevenage dinner was needed so curry came to mind, the place has good decor and service and staff was very good the food arrived quickly and was excellent I would recomend this restaurant and would visit again when in Stevenage

I will be honest I haven’t eaten her for the past 18 months. I used to eat here at leased twice a month and had been doing that for many years ,food was good and staff very friendly, it started to change we started to get a few rough feels and the restaurant started to look very dirty, we let them know haw we felt as we had become to get to know the staff quite well ,but nothing changed,it just got worse , they reasantly shut to referb,I live close by and pass often, they have reopened ,from the outside it looked just as bad . I would not eat here again ,which is a shame ,as the resarant has been her for many years

Yep that’s what we had but it’s also all they’re offering currently while they decorate. I was hoping it would be a full on refurb so we get a funky cocktail bar/Indian tapas but I’ve got a feeling it might not be much more than a lick of paint.

Chicken in the jalfrezi was very tough, ended up not eating it. Rest of the meal was really nice. Shame as we always order from here and have never had any food issues. Was informed delivery time of 19:50 and it arrived at 19:20 so we weren’t prepared at all, I understand it can come a bit earlier but 30 minutes is very inaccurate..

1st time ordering here and after ordering the Tikka Masala : Chicken and the Korma : King Prawn I was left feeling really disapointed because it tasted good but both dishes were more like a thick tasty soup as they both hardly had any meat in them :( Not happy.

We were staying in Stevenage for a weekend and were desperate to find somewhere different to the ubiquitous chains in the Leisure Park, so strolled over to the Old Town to the Bombay.

I got a plain naan instead of a cheese naan . The biryani was a little bland,

Veg korma was lovely and so was the pilau pea rice. popadoms were in pieces and the sprite was forgotten but once i did get it, it had this weird plastic taste to it?? really couldnt drink it.

Great that the food came early and was hot. However there was little meat in the main dishes and the £2.75 I was charged for a 2 litre bottle of coke was only a 1.5litre bottle!!

I've been using the bombay for for over 30 years and in the past 2 years the service and food has been getting worse on every visit.

there are many varied restaurants, fast food options in the high street. which are very popular with travellers and the locals, and all within walking distance of each other.

Gone downhill recently, think they must have changed the chef........

My bread was burnt and my chicken was very tough. The rice was lovely and the masala sauce was too.
