The Boatyard in Renfrewshire

Came here on a recommendation but was disappointed by the service or lack of service. The place is lovely and has a nice holiday feel to it … so I was excited to try it out. I opted for coffee and cake to see what it was like before making a dinner reservation. Initially trying to get a waitress/waiter was difficult as the table next to me discovered to as they tried to order more drinks. Eventually I got my coffee (not extra hot as ordered) so had to order another to finish with my cake. This time it was even harder to get served. I stopped a young woman whom I presumed was a waitress but instead she assured me she would send someone over to take my order. 10 mins past by and so I stopped another waitress who was taking an order from guests who had just arrived. This time my coffee was perfect … about 10 minutes later another coffee arrived! I explained I had already had it and was just finished. However, when I got my bill I had been charged for three!! They did rectify the bill without apology! I was looking forward to coming for dinner but feel this experience has put me off. So it’s on hold for now!

First time to this restaurant, had heard great things was really looking forward to it. Was really impressed by the decor really classy place. I’m afraid that’s where the compliments end. Took them around 15 mins to come & ask for drinks, we asked for the Sunday Roast Menu as we were not given one, the waiter said he would bring one when bringing the drinks. Never happened we had to go & retrieve our own menu. The waiter who came and took our order huffed and puffed as he clearly did not like using the tablet. We waited at least 25 mins for our main course. The food when it finally came was very good, however we then sat with the dirty plates on the table for 25 minutes. No-one asked us if we wanted coffee or desserts, when the girl came for us to pay the bill she could clearly see we were still sitting with dirty plates in the table. We booked for 17:15 and left at 19:05 and we only had a main course. This place is very overrated. I would not return due to the poor service, there are much better places than this.

My son had insects in his dinner, waitress took it away, eventually came back with another one for him, we got no apology or explanation from anyone. I emailed head office, who told me they had investigated, and said the lettuce was not washed properly, the staff had been reprimanded and the chef had been sacked, I was offered a £50 voucher and they also took the service charge off which was £50.24, which I was quite happy with, I know things can happen out with their control. Then I find out apparently a couple of weeks before our visit, the same complaint was made by another customer insects in their dinner, I emailed again and asked for full refund, the response was, we will refund the burger £18.75 and my voucher was cancelled although I still received the service charge back. Very poor customer service.

Place is lovely but my nephew had ants in his burger they replaced it with another meal. Found out after that experience his friend and wife had been there 2 weeks before and they had ants in their food as well. Environmental health should have been called in but they obviously didn't bother so who knows how many meals have had this happening to them. They just covered it up kitchen must be riddled with them. Certainly won't be back.

First time visitor to The Boatyard, Lochwinnoch & very poor service. No waiter/waitress service when dining outside, requiring customers to order & pay upfront at the bar which had only one person serving. Zero flexibility when it came to menu choices, but the real rub came when they sneakily charged me £40 the following day for no reason. Still trying to get this money back with an explanation & apology despite numerous calls & emails. Would not recommend.

Attempted to use £50 gift card on expiry date.informed thar it was purchased in morning a year ago so was 10 hours out of date. Emailed restaurant group as this is unlawful. No reply.

I booked the table for 6 and paid a £60 deposit when only 5 of us could attend I lost the £10 deposit which I could understand if we cancelled the full booking but my goodness from 6 to 5. I was disappointed with this unfair policy. Meal was delicious and the staff were lovely although the girl taking the money for our bill didn’t seem to know what she was doing. I would give meal 10/10, service 8/10 but the policy about the deposit 1/10.

As soon as you walk in the door the restaurant is warm and welcoming. The Christmas decorations are outstanding. The menu has something for everyone . The portions are very generous. Service was good . Definitely a notch above , other restaurants in the area.

Awful. Dreadful food, service… worse than the food. Had 4 meals, almost inedible. Kids meal loaded with salt, fish’n chips x 2 was all batter, no fish. Other meal had a foreign body in it! Waiters / waitresses fine, management verging on aggressive and couldn’t care less. Go somewhere else.

Visited twice in three days for two separate family lunches - one Sunday, one mid week. Extensive menu with something for everyone. Family friendly. Efficient unobtrusive service from friendly but not over-attentive staff.

We tried this restaurant when it had only been opened a couple of months. Then, the bar options were very limited and the wine waiter was not in the best of moods. However, tonight, the bar was in full working order and the wine waiter (same guy) was actually quite cheery. We were there as two grandparents, two parents and two grandchildren. Everyone was taken care of appropriately. The only thing I would caution is, the food was great but the portions are huge. Not a bad thing if you are the size of a very large and eating industrially gentleman several tables along but you might find that a starter might fill you up too much to finish your main course. So if you have a reduced appetite skip the excellent starters and make up for it, if you can, with the excellent desserts. We will be back - frequently as we are local. Well done to the Boatyard and especially Joe, the wine/drinks waiter. Always there on cue and never grumped even though our ordering was a wee bit disorganised. Also, my grandchildren were provided with use of coloured pencils to keep them amused during adult conversation. The children’s’ menu seemed to please them as well and the bangers and mash that one of my granddaughters ordered looked great. Came with good gravy that she loved. My other granddaughter had a burger that was man sized. She loved it. Need I say more? Repetition but, we will be back - often!

Mothers day. £29.95 2 course set menu. If I had known my family had booked in here for this Occasion I would have cooked myself. Basically worked out £22 for a bland main meal. I asked for some gravy to be put on my dinner as I have sjogrens which is a very dry mouth condition. I asked for gravy because there was only a tea spoonful amount on my plate not because it was Extra..but because there wasnt enough..I wanted gravy to cover my dinner not just to cover my one(yes one) sugarsnap pea. Charged £3 for the gravy! Mothers day menu was all about over charging and daylight robbery yesterday..its shocking. Boatyard is all about over charging customers and under valuing staff and customers.

Awful. Took my wife and adult children for Mother's day. Server was non-existent. Scrambled eggs tasted and looked like powdered eggs. Coffee had no real coffee flavor. None of us thought our meal was very special. I just feel bad I made the reservations. Only good thing was we had a nice walk together at the RSPB nearby.

Firstly the restaurant is STUNNING 😍...Came for a celebratory lunch with family...front of house wasn't the friendliest...seated us at table with colouring page for wee one...but no crayons...was 1215 booking so very quiet...yet waited 20 mins to even order drinks...it felt like same gent who took order as who seated us couldn't be bothered....miserable n just generally unwelcoming....food was bland....couple behind us were served garlic bread which was black on underneath and had to return....ordered ice cream waited 25 mins and had to remind staff ....finally we're told to pay at bar when everyone else had card machine taken to table....very disappointed n won't be back 😒

Went with a friend for a catch up. Good choice of lighter and main dishes. Lovely themed decor. Clean, spacious, good ambience.

Lovely place. Family brought me in for my birthday! Unfortunately I was a little ill so felt bad for asking so much of the staff but they couldn't have been nicer about it if they tried. Entire family enjoyed their food, decor was outstanding and the place had a lovely atmosphere. Hope to visit again when feeling better to I can enjoy the full experience :) 😁

Staff lovely. Food awful and overpriced. King prawn tempura, boiling hot but tasted of dirty chip pan oil. Lasagna had very little filling, dry, lacked flavour. Side of sweet potato fries, soggy. Burger from specials menu, bland, neither meal was finished. Wine ridiculously overpriced and poor quality. Would have been far better having a pre made lasagna at home than this food, won’t be back and won’t recommend. £16:95 for lasagna with 2 soggy frozen garlic breads and tiny side salad!!! Extra £4.50 for fries and £10:95 for large wine!!!

Four meals and only one was decent and that was a burger which isn’t hard to throw togeather,the staff weren’t very helpful and it wasn’t busy.Was in here about a year ago and it wasn’t this bad,standards are slipping.

Popped in for late lunch. Waited ages to be seated despite place being empty. Limited menu of sandwiches or baked potatoes available. Baked potatoes were not very hot and there was hardly any chilli on one, certainly not worth £10.95 for a baked potato, some crisps and dollop of coleslaw. Told the waiter hardly any chilli and he said he wd pass it back to advise kitchen. Heard no more. Also asked for two meringue cakes to take away and could not believe they were £5 each. Will not be going back. Overly expensive for very average food. Staff nice enough but not very efficient. Surroundings overly gimmicky with a nautical feel. It’s a shame the food let them down.

The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas but sadly anything but cosy. We had to ask twice to be moved from chilly window table to a warmer place beside the (fake but attractive) fire. I chose mixed tempura from a la carte menu as festive menu wasn’t offered. It was all very dry and tasteless. The accompanying two sauces were uninteresting and I suspect not made in the kitchen. Altogether unappetising. Waiters were very courteous. This is the second disappointing meal I have had, so despite the welcoming atmosphere I won’t be back.

All the food ordered from the starters, mains and desserts were excellent. Service was first class and the Christmas decorations had the wow factor.

Love how it has been laid out with the booths making it feel more private. We were running late and when we phoned in to let them know, there were no issues at all. The meal was excellent and the Christmas decoration just excellent too. Not cheap, but sometimes you get what you pay for. We will be back 😂

This was a return visit to this restaurant. The service was excellent. We had two main courses which were well cooked and hot. The coffee was very good. Will certainly return.
