Food is way too expensive here and very low quality. Pretty much everything is store brought and not fresh. Just a few minor changes would make it so much nicer. Even the rice with the curry is packet brought, it’s not that difficult to boil some rice! I know it’s a busy place because of all the holiday makers but having good quality food for the price they charge would make such a difference.

I implore you not to order a pizza which looks like it’s been made by a year 5 student. Just excessive tomato paste on a rubbery shop bought base(?) and pale undercooked tasteless cheese. Literally no herbs, not browned, no veggy toppings option, zilch, nothing. Probably the worst pizza I’ve ever tried. I left half to eat toast in the caravan. I would be embarrassed to send this out and at £12!! Wife ate the scampi but left the peas and chips. Some stuff was unavailable. And as for the serving staff.....basically the night we went in they had a poor girl who it appears had only just started with next to zero supervision. Another lad who as far as I could tell could only serve drinks but at least all the people in the queue you could talk to. Person next to us seemed to have had his meal left off the group order. They did get the desserts right the following night but we made sure not to have mains again. Even if there was only one portion left. They no longer do breakfasts but looking at how they coped its not really a loss in my thoughts.

Used to eat here every day on previous holidays but sadly it has gone down hill. Everything is fried, there are no salads, sandwiches, ploughman’s . No desert menu. The chairs are very stained. The service is haphazard. Breakfast was good but inconsistent across several days .

As it was the last day of our short break over the early May Bank Holiday we decided to avoid cooking & the washing up on our last night. We ate in the bar area as we also had a dog with us. The lady that served us was lovely and friendly and our food came out very quickly. My Dad really enjoyed his Fish & Chips and the fish was a good portion size too. I had a lighter option (the Camembert) and a side of Chunky Chips which were piping hot on arrival at the table. My husband had the Sausage, Mash & peas. We all enjoyed our food and 2 if us had waffles for our dessert. It was very quiet in the bar area and we found ourselves to be the only ones when another couple left. I think people may have travelled back on the Bank Holiday Monday. We felt the prices were quite reasonable for the food and dishes being offered.

Have been coming to Devon valley for some years and tried the boathouse before and wasn't impressed. But the chef they have now makes the most tastiest meals, all fresh and very tasty. Staff super friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend

This review is for the restaurant only, not for the holiday park! The food is beyond terrible. Played safe with fish and chips, chargrilled chicken burger and a jacket potato, or at least we thought we had! The 'fish' was paper thin in a dirty black batter, and I cant say the peas were grey, as they didnt even have that much colour! The chargrilled chicken fillet was a lump of something in a thick greasy batter, which the fat literally ran out of. Nothing at all chargrilled about it. I couldn't even recognise it as chicken! The jacket potato was stale, hard, old. I didn't even know it was possible to destroy a jacket potato until this 'food' experience. The grated cheese was like rubber. Our 5 year old refused point blank to eat it. I wouldn't have fed any part of it to the pigs, nevermind serving it up to customers. The tables, chairs and cutlery were filthy. The menus looked like they had been pulled out of the bin, were tatty and smeared with old food. I would never expect much from a holiday park restaurant, but this wins, hands down, the award for the worst food we have ever ordered seen and paid for. Absolutely nothing at all positive to say. Would give it a zero if it was possible.

Philip Heede SHOCKING General Manager!!!!!! RUDE AND IGNORANT WITH ABSOLUTELY NO PEOPLE SKILLS!!!!! Arrived for my son's 3rd birthday to celebrate and enjoy a week's holiday. This was to all be ruined by a very unprofessional and rude General manager Phillip Heede. We visited the pub/restaurant on sight on the Monday and Tuesday and found it ok for a drink and decided on the Wednesday we would go along and eat. We arrived at the pub at 5.45pm and by 5.55pm we had placed out food order at the bar. The restaurant and bar was very quiet so didn't expect to wait over 1 hour for our meal my husband had to ask twice were it was. When it finally arrived at 7pm it came out wrong. They missed off my meal and got my little boys wrong. No bearing in mind he's normally in bed for 7pm we also had a 12 week old baby with us by this point he was unsettled. Eventually the food came back at 7.15pm by this point my husband had practically eaten his. The order was still incorrect. We had to eat it as my 3 year old was so so hungry. We did not once get a check back to see how everything was. At around 7.45 I called the waitress over to express how dissapointed we was, She said she would get a manager to come over.A manager did not come it took another 2 waitresses and they didn't know what to do so they called for the 'General Manager' Philip Heede. He came marching over to our table with his hands on his hips and said 'What's the problem' We explained the situation for the 5th time and he said well you've eaten the food what do you expect me to do about it now? If you wasn't happy you shouldn't of eaten the food? I then explained the story again. By this point his attitude to us was shocking he was terribly rude and ignorant his body language was appalling. He said to myself and husband if we didn't like it you know were the exit is! Wow! Your customer service skills are amazing! I was getting upset by this point as he was arguing with us unessaseraly. My husband then spoke to Philip to ask who his manager was. He explained he was the only manager there and the only people above him are the owners, he told us we would not be able to find out who they are and that if we write a letter it would go to him and it wouldn't reach them. He then said this problem isn't going to be resolved and walked off. I was so angry and upset! It ruined the holiday and left us very dissapointed. The caravans was absolutely FREEZING the heating was rubbish and had a very stale smell. We would NOT reccomend this holiday park and if you are thinking if staying here please DO NOT. you will be very dissapointeted !!!! I will be contacting the sun holidays to update them on our terrible experience. Philip Heede you are in the wrong job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to look at your customer service skills and you need re training what a terrible representative of Devon valley. The owners are more than welcome to contact me regarding this.

First day on holiday We though we would try the food before signing up to half board with the site. We are so glad we tried first, food was awful. Mega breakfast was cold and uncooked, sausages are microwaved and pale. Cottage pie uncooked, onions still hard. Prawn sandwich didn't taste right. Ok good thing was the chips. Menu choice limited, no fresh fruit options, not slimming friendly. Toilets ok, baby changing room was very dirty and smelled awful. We haven't tried again.

Pints go flat within 5 minutes of being pulled, pulled a pint in a glass with lipstick still on. Customer service skills are outrageous, AJ behind the bar has a stinking attitude. Bar shuts without ringing for last orders Would not recommend this bar at all

So we went to the Boathouse for a bite to eat whilst in Shaldon.. if you're after poor service , unenthusiastic staff and a menu where 3/4 of the food isn't available then this is the place to go. All ate separately due to Chili Con Carne taking 1 hour to prepare , only to forget the main ingredients.. beans , mince but hey it was a great soup for my parents in law , with the presentation of a very good Picasso piece. Thank you for making the Hungry Horse chain comparable to the Ritz.

Bovey Castle is certainly a beautiful and interesting location. However, with all their grounds parking spaces are a premium. Eventually, we were offered a space in a coned off area. A very well appointed building as your would expect for a Five Star Hotel. We began with an aperitif 'Gusbourne English Sparkling' which was superb. A absolutely delightful bar. Smith's Brasserie! Well, let's begin with the positives. Excellent welcome and staff were fantastic throughout our Birthday lunch. Extremely unimaginative menu to say the least. A nice enough starter. Perhaps would have expected freshly made mayonnaise, not from a bottle, in such an establishment. Pleasant enough bottle of rose, although there was a choice of ONE. My wife (Birthday Girl) and I opted for pasta dishes. Absolutely clueless when it comes to pasta dishes. Packet spaghetti with prawns (four small ones) and a Provencal sauce? Very little of it too. It is an Italian dish and the sauce requires mixing in the pasta. Tagliatelle, again from a packet, with some type of utterly non-descript cream sauce at the bottom of the dish. Totally unseasoned dishes. The cooking water needs to taste of the sea. Therefore, seasoned. No offer of cheese or pepper or pangrattato, nothing, and certainly no theatre. Huge improvements required I'm afraid to make an enjoyable dining experience. Dress Code: Expectations, as you would imagine were high. Staff were smart, but could have been better attired for such a hotel. Clientele: Lots of jeans and un-ironed tee shirts wondering around and dining. A pair of football shorts and dirty trainers at one table, others with feet on the chairs in the bar and the final straw was a couple arriving in towelling dressing gowns and flip flops. NO! Sorry. There's a time and a place and this is not acceptable. Unfortunately, this was a lunch to judge if a weekend stay would be appropriate for our anniversary and it simply is not good enough.

We came for Sunday carvery when we visited Dawlish. The food was good, although the beef was a bit chewy. The Yorkshire puddings were huge. Service was quick and friendly and the Covid-19 set up was good. We would return if we came back to the area.

We was on a pub tour of the area and passed this on a way to another pub and thought “oh this looks quaint” sometimes the most impromptu pubs are the best and this one certainly is! Four ales were on draft we opted for the salcombe gold Which was excellently kept. I loved the laid back atmosphere with dog friendly sofas. They have a beautiful boxer dog named boots who greets you on arrival who is loving in nature with people and dogs. Very chilled and dog friendly and I will certainly visit again and stay for longer when I’m next in the area. Whatpub online does not hype this place is much as it should.

Met up with family as we had come down to visit. We were very surprised 😯 with the sloop, being a hungry horse we are used to them being noisy and dirty. We were so surprised and we were allowed to take our 🐶 in. The staff were lovely and most importantly so was the food.
