A very beautiful setting, lovely quirky and cosy cafe, very friendly stuff. Great choice of freshly prepared food and range of cakes. Definitely worth a visit! 😉

Lovely food, nice people, dog friendly, awesome setting! We went with the dog after visiting Carrick Castle. Amazing toasties, cakes to die for, lovely drinks and the most amazing setting! Staff were welcoming and it was just a wonderful experience

This little cafe, overlooking the loch with both indoor and outdoor seating, is an absolute gem of a find while on a short break to the area. You would pay for the views alone! The cream of mushroom soup was delicious and the fig, ricotta & prosciutto baguette was delicious!! Pet friendly too. Just a special place .

This was on my list of places to visit and finally got here at the weekend, we arrived for opening at 10am and got first pick of tables (table 11 outside in the corner is the best in my opinion!). The lady seating us (I think she was the owner) was lovely and chatty couldn't do enough for us to ensure we had a nice visit. There were blankets for if it was a chilly day. We drove past later on and there was a very large queue outside so getting there for opening was a good choice! Agree with previous reviews that the parking situation isn't the best. Food was delicious and uncomplicated while still plenty to choose from on the menu. We had a mac & cheese toastie with haggis and lentil soup, a chicken, chorizo and cheese toastie, biscoff latte, biscoff hot chocolate and waffles. All really tasty. My only very tiny criticism would be that food came before drinks and seemed to for most of the tables around us, not a massive issue and I definitely wouldn't mark them down on this. Doubt I will be as it is very out of the way, but if i was back in the area I would return in a heartbeat!

I gave in to the hype and went for lunch one afternoon, and sure enough the view is gorgeous. The fairy lights and rustic feel of the place is really lovely and quite unique. The food was good although the mac and cheese was too spicy for me which was disappointing as it didn't state on the menu it had chili in it. The waiter (perhaps the owner?) seemed a quite scattered. He was explaining to all the tables what he was doing (e.g. "I'm just going to get that table's drinks, then I'll take your order, OK?) which wasn't necessary. When taking our order, he told us quite a lot about his life; his commute from Penicuik, what his wife was up to that day, we were replying politely but to be honest his vibe wasn't great. The younger members of staff were excellent. It got really busy but they were so friendly and helpful. Unfortunately one manky toilet that emitted quite a smell every time the door opened, wafting into the eating area is not adequate for such a popular cafe that looks really fancy on social media. Worth a visit but for me personally once is enough.

Arrived to find cars queuing for the car park and people queuing outside waiting for a table. Decided to go inside and ask for a takeaway cuppa, found staff stressed out and rushing about, seemed chaotic. Waited at the counter to ask for a takeaway tea, 10 mins later I was still waiting while at least 4 members of staff rushed past ignoring me. Finally was asked what I wanted, only to be told I'd need to wait 20 mins for a takeaway tea. Needless to say I left. I never saw such caos and disorganisation. I appreciate it was busy, but it could have been better organised including someone dealing with takeaway orders to eleviate the congestion. Definitely not the relaxing cuppa I had anticipated.

Great location, good food and great service. Not the greatest road to get there if truth be told, but we had a very nice brunch and a take away cake for later. The service was excellent the location was good even if weather was terrible. Worth the trip probably yes.

Lovely views if you choose to sit outside (we didn’t but were asked about four times if we wanted to) Basically you sit inside till a table becomes available outside. So while you’re trying to eat everyone around you is coming and sitting down then getting up again as it’s very cramped inside anyway? Such a weird set up, but I guess it works for them as it was very busy. Toasties and drinks were nice, £23 for two of us which isn’t extortionate. Staff were decent too.

Phoned ahead to makes sure there was adequate parking to be told the owner has put in extra parking directly opposite the Boat Shed, we have a long vehicle, the surroundings are as you would expect absolutely fantastic after a single track road of a few miles like a roller coaster, don’t let that put you off as it’s part of the fun. Use the post code or co ordinates for guidance, the food was good with no complaints, the loos were spotless with excellent Staff and if you sit “outside” under the lean to you won’t be bothered with the local Scottish wildlife as there is normally a gentle breeze which the wee blighters don’t like. All in all a brilliant few hours as well as the drive just to get there inc the Rest and be Thankful so go, enjoy the surroundings and The Boat Shed.

The outside seating area looks lovely overlooking the loch however it was too busy when we visited so got a takeaway coffee instead. It was a nice coffee, I had a cafe latte though had a wait of over ten minutes (despite counting five staff behind the counter) where you are left just standing around the doorway feeling as if I was in everyone's way as it's cramped. We stayed at Drimsynie which is nearby though I think I would've been disappointed if I had travelled a fair bit as based on expectations it wasnt what I imagined it would be. Beware too of the car park it is a nightmare, with very limited spaces and tight to get in and out of with large potholes to try and avoid!

Followed this place on Instagram where it looks amazing. Was prepared for the fact it was on a single track road and that parking was limited, this is made clear on their Instagram. We arrived and there was one parking space left. Hooray. Queue for tables, went down reasonably quickly, we got seated within 15 minutes. Staff are very busy and while polite enough, they really weren’t the friendliest. The place was very busy and it was pretty cramped. We ordered two highland vegetable soup, served with bread, two chicken burritos and a vegetarian burrito plus drinks. The food arrived way before the drinks, not ideal. The soup was “fine” - had I made it at home I’d be adding something else to it, it didn’t feel like it was home made, it was a bit odd. Two thin slices of super market type bread, nothing special. My vegetarian burrito arrived with half its filling on the plate, I got told oh sorry it exploded, so here’s a fork, but it tasted nice. The two chicken burritos were a bit tasteless and we asked for extra hot sauce to be told there wasn’t any. Only time we got a smile was when we deposited a tip in the tip jar on leaving. I can understand the fact it is a hard slog being so busy in such a cramped space and constantly trying to deliver food and drinks to tables with people queuing all around the place. But that’s what you sign up for in the customer service game. The outside toilet door was broken, the inside door handle was missing, so you had to go to the toilet with a buddy to let you it the loo. Also not ideal. The views are great. The food is ok. If this place was a cafe minus the view, I wouldn’t go back. The view makes it. I can imagine in the summer it is heaving and parking is a potential disaster.

Not worth the hype - we took a big detour to come here thinking it would be a lot more than it was. Food was poor, the whole outside smelt like sewage (to the point of being unbearable and having to come back inside), and there were more wasps than I’ve ever seen. It really wasn’t a pleasant experience and given that I - like everyone else - thought it would be as pictured on socials, it was a huge let down! It’s tiny and toilet is minging.

We came after seeing the cafe shared multiple times on social media. It’s definitely hyped up. The cafe and car park are small and the food and service aren’t what we were expecting. Staff were polite but not overly helpful, the portions were small and the soup tasted like Heinz tinned. Even the bread with the soup was a let down, just one slice of plain white bread. There’s definitely a big deal made by influencers looking to get the perfect shot. The views are beautiful but this is definitely not the best cafe in Scotland like the claim to be.

Beautiful location with a lovely feel inside and out. We had leek and potatoe soup (Soup of the day) which unfortunately was tasteless and a ham and cheese toastie. The toastie was very dry, no butter on the outside and the cheese was bland. Was disappointed because we had walked from Carrick castle and was looking forward to a tasty snack. It's a pity the food doesn't match up to the premises.

Decided to go here after seeing it all over Instagram but really didn’t live up to expectations. Was a nightmare trying to get a space in the tiny park and hardly any room to even turn. On approaching the cafe, the smell of sewage was extremely strong. I think I remember seeing a sign saying “wait here to be seated” so we waited, then when we reached the till the girl asked us our table number, which we didn’t have because the sign told us to wait. Contradictory and confusing. They were rather busy and full outside but put us on a waiting list to go sit out next to the Loch when a table became available. Decided after our lunch to go back up and order some cakes. The girl on the till was trying to shuffle people about into 2 queues instead of one big one. One queue for if you already had a table and were ready to order, and one for if you were still waiting. So I stood in the second queue as I already knew what I was having and where I was sitting. However; there was another girl making her way through the line and assigning people to tables, so now they knew their table number they were able to put an order in. Big queue of about 10 people and they all started getting served and then second queue of people were just standing waiting. I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle and confusion so just forgot about the cake and left. All over very confusing experience, very disorganised and none of the girls looked if they wanted to be there. Only positive of this place is the great location and views out over the Loch. The cafe itself is gorgeous just a shame about the organisation of the place

Planned a visit here after spotting a lovely Instagram review of the Boat Shed. Arrived and the car park was in absolute chaos with cars blocked in as people parking over spaces on the wrong side of the car park - tried to get to the bottom of the car park to turn and met a car coming the other way who refused to reverse back in to their space and let us turn - had to reverse full length of the car park which in itself was a total hazard as people standing queueing outside. By this time the single track road had a queue of traffic trying to get in to the car park. We had to go in the opposite direction from which we wanted and turn further up the road. My husband said ‘Let’s never come back here’ and went in to the village and found somewhere else to eat with a decent car park!

Food was lovely We had a chicken burrito with crisps and a very very good coffee Fantastic place to grab some nice food with some amazing views over the water. Staff were very nice and will try to seat you outside when ever possible. Best cafe we have visited in a long time. You can also watch the Robins from the water front seating area. I like how the outside seating looks like you’re in a tree house - magical - loved it thank you From Laura & James Hamilton who were staying at Rowan House B&B in sept 2023

Terrible. Actually can't believe the food we were served here. £4.99 for the barely toasted "toastie" and £5.99 for the Panini (both pictured) Poor poor quality ingredients, pathetic portion size. The car park is an absolute nightmare, very small and people blocking each other in. No booking system in place to cope with demand so just constant cars in the car park and blocking the road outside. The views are amazing but unfortunately this place really is a great example of don't believe everything you see on social media.

We stopped here on a cold and very windy day. Cafe is a bit small, but the cakes are scrumptious and the hot chocolate was perfectly chocolatey, delicious and warming which was just what was needed. Coffee and tea also was great. The two ladies who run the cafe are lovely and bake some really delicious treats. They have a small shop too full of pretty stuff. Will definitely be coming back here next time I'm in Inveraray.

Such a beautiful location with lovely staff but unfortunately the worst meal ever. If a chef cannot make macaroni then it's a big no from us. Pasta and water would have been more apt. Feel sorry for the waitresses working there having to serve such bland inedible food. We are not complainers but felt the need to. The waitresses were so lovely and engaging but even they could not make up for the inedible food. Will definitely not return
