The Boat not only boasts a wonderful setting, the food is fresh and very tasty and the service exceptional with fantastic customer service. A lovely family feel and if you fancy a drink or chill in the bar there is a lovely open fire. Can't speak highly enough of staff, venue and food

Called at the boat on Saturday the weather was glorious sat outside and had a drink. Bar staff were very accommodating and pleasant. The decor is very modern and a cosy fire greeted you. We had food which was cooked to perfection, staff all had a personality which nowadays it hard to come by. Well done to you all will certainly be back again

This is a lovely restaurant in a nicely decorated riverside pub with an amazing setting. Excellent lunch - friendly, efficient service and paced efficiently but with no rush. The menu was really interesting with dishes that certainly weren’t the usual pub offering and the calves liver main was possibly the best I’ve ever eaten. All of us were really impressed by the range and quality of all parts of the meal and we’d certainly go again. Highly recommended.

We can't claim to be regulars, living some distance away, but we love this inn. It's well worth the effort of finding it, if only for the location, beside a river straight from 'Central Casting'. On a summer day, to sit at a table on the river bank, glass of something cool in your hand and a delicious meal in front of you as the water burbles past, the cares of the world just pale into insignificance for a while. Yesterday, on our most recent visit, introducing friends to the place, the weather was not that inviting. But the blazing log fires in the bar were an excellent substitute. Attentive staff, wonderful food. What more could you ask for?

The food was good and our party had clean plates when we had eaten including 2 teenage boys! We both had curried prawns, squid and crab on a crumpet, delicious flavour, totally unique, and just enough spice enhancing the taste of the fish. We then both had fishcakes, homemade and served with a cucumber salad, no pic sorry. Finally we shared the bread and butter pudding with apricots and clotted cream. Freshly baked with a crisp top. So very disappointed after doing hours of research online, looking at reviews / and youtube videos . We arrived at the boat in @ 1030 am We ( a very hard working couple in our 50,s decided to relive our youth ! And the plan was to go early, set up and suit up ( wetsuits ) and innertube down the river for a hr then to visit the pub for a highly recommended sunday lunch ! As we arrived we got into our wet suits ( inwhich was a task on its own ! Lifejackets on ,oars at the ready ! Just about to lock the car and we were aprouched by a member of staff from the boat inn . He said we really couldnt be doing anything in front of the boat inn for no access and no water sports of anykind are allowed ! Fishing up stream and down stream created a big no .so we ( thank goodness went to Bangor on dee ,were we had a fantastic time ! And the best sunday lunch !

Staying locally for a few days this place was highly recommended to us, having booked a table we arrived 10 mins early and asked if there were any tables in the garden, we we told to return at our scheduled time to enable an outdoor table to be found, however when we returned we were told there were no such tables available, no biggie as we sat near an open door, only to find lots of unreserved outdoor tables given to diners, so after a full 20 mins someone finally came over to take our order, food arrived and was ok, ordered another drink which never came, so had to find a waitress, wasn't asked if ' everything is OK?' Or if we needed anything, I guess they were busy that day. All in all the location is fantastic but felt a little let down by the service, I guess it will be better next time.

I'd not been to The Boat for some years, not since before the renovation, although I had heard it was much better than before. We went for a Friday evening meal (4 of us), the bar area is very welcoming, if loud as it was full. Certainly it is obvious that serious money has been spent on it, and it is very nicely done. We were shown through to the 'upper' dining area, which was clean and well presented. The menu is not particularly inspiring, but I suppose is typical of the sort of choices that most good pubs offer that do food, so comparable with it's nearest rival (The Cross Foxes). Three of our party had the fish and chips, and I had the Hunters Chicken, nice food, although the bacon wrapped around my chicken was very thin and fatty (but a decent chunk of chicken). We all had puddings, although the two of us who had the meringue were a but disappointed, as that was very uninspiring compared to the description, although perhaps there was some jealousy as one of our party had the pineapple upside down cake, which did look (and was) very nice. The service was excellent, and the meals were served in a timely fashion. Cost wise I think it was around £30 per head with main, pudding, and one round of drinks plus two coffee's so reasonably priced. There is no doubt that the main selling point of The Boat is its location right next to the River Dee, and I think in that respect, a day time visit, sitting outside with perhaps a lighter bite menu option would be preferable, but no complaints.

Disappointing Visit to The Boat Myself and my family love visiting the Boat, the atmosphere, service and quality of food is usually amazing, however my recent visit for a booked reunion meal was extremely disappointing. This visit held particular significance as several of my friends had travelled a considerable distance (300 miles across the country) to meet at The Boat (would usually give 5/5 stars in recommending to friends). Unfortunately, the evening was spoiled by unprofessional and inflexible staff behaviour regarding age verification. While I understand the importance of age verification (personally worked at numerous bars myself), the situation was handled unprofessionally and immaturely. Although I (21) and my friend (25) had forgotten our ID, two of my friends (also 21) presented valid IDs. I appreciate I couldn’t be served however I was told I could order half a pint of cider at the table. After being seated, a wine list was presented at the table, only to be subsequently removed in an abrupt and confrontational manner with an announcement that none of us would be permitted alcohol. The law on alcohol states you can order beer, wine, or cider with an adult present. I was told I didn’t have a legal guardian with me… (friends had valid ID??) the confusion left us considerably frustrated! We were interrupted numerous times by different staff giving us contradictory rules, it felt unnecessary and created a scene for no reason as we were just trying to enjoy a quiet meal, (the staff’s approach felt borderline vindictive as these rules weren’t based on actual licensing laws). It felt strange none of us were permitted alcohol and there was no justification given by staff. To add, we overheard staff talking about us in an unpleasant way from across the room, staff were reluctant to serve us at the table, and numerous times they gave us dirty looks from across the room, it was extremely noticeable and hard to ignore. We were also made to wait to pay 20 minutes after receiving the bill despite being the only patrons remaining, eventually my friend had to approach staff to request the card machine. This felt purposeful as it’s not like we had any drinks to finish off… It is also worth mentioning that we were given loyalty cards at the end of the meal which could have been a nice gesture however they had expired in 2023 making us feel unwelcome. Considering that all we tried to order was a half pint of cider and a half pint of Peroni with our meal, the situation was blown out of proportion and not handled maturely or discretely by staff. Even though myself and my friends are all adults we felt we were singled out and treated disrespectfully by certain staff, I felt the situation arose out of nowhere and could have been avoided. What was meant to be a nice, quiet reunion dinner on a Sunday evening was unfortunately ruined. I am hoping to resolve the situation as it is a truly lovely pub which is why I’m so disappointed this happened!

We tried a selection of products from here including a sausage roll, large oggie and a pie. All were excellent, pastry and filling alike and good value, especially as we bought multiple items for which a discount is offered. Recommended

Moved back to Whitchurch recently thought we would give it a try, Well driving up the drive we wasn't sure it was open no lights on the long driveway The table we sat at needed wiping the waitress didn't even notice it I had the burger which I must admit it was really really nice and at 13 quid was very reasonable My wife had the salmon which was a massive let down nearly 17 quid a small piece of salmon with potatoes and veg (which was about 5 pieces of broccoli and nothing else ) As for the drinks very expensive

Stop here, had a really good lunch. They were very considerate about allergies and what we were looking for and what we needed. Great service.

A great place to see old and new bands from all languages. Great nights to be had here.
