The Boat Inn in Melton

Myself & my partner live in Leicester & regularly have a Day out in Melton & I always go for a few drinks at the boat , so friendly & cosy , we’ve actually got a later train we were so entrenched x

A trip down memory lane, as I was last in The Boat over 50 years ag, and just had to visit whilst attending the MM beer festival. Landlord and landlady were very friendly and choice of cask ales OK.

Went to Melton Mowbray for a pork pie making course, decided to take campervan n stop over to take in some of Meltons' pubs.. The Boat was 5 🌟 old style boozer, with great friendly management (Mick n Laura ?) Made to feel welcome by the locals Great well kept beers incl Bass, Timothy Taylors (Golden & Boltmaker) Cheese n Onion Cobs n a dartboard 🎯.. Highly recommend a visit👌 Interesting Blue Plaque on the next door property !

Really old fashioned pub....brilliant staff lovely locals proper pub from the past ..beer beautiful as well deffo worth a visit

Great food, reasonably priced. Nice staff, attentive without being 'on you' as soon as you put your fork down. No alcohol, take your own. It's their pleasure to open and pour it for you. Low rating on the atmosphere, we were there quite early and the only people in, not the restaurants fault.

Like going to the Boat Inn in melton. Nice old proper pub. Usually go when staying at Eye Kettleby Lakes.

Great real ales, lovely publicans, will be going back, well worth the drive out. Visited again today 15th Aug, absolutely fantastic, such a welcoming couple, fantastic unspoilt surroundings and a wonderful pint of Bass. Trad pub lovers really need to try this wonderful pub. Visited today, 27th Oct '23. In am ever changing Melton, with fewer and fewer pubs, The Boat still has it 'right', an ale house that has resisted the choice of chalk paint and fancy lagers. 4 cask ales on, and still operated by publicans who are always on duty, unlike todays trend of clueless accountants running pubs and directing unmotivated staff from a remote office. While this couple are at the boat its in good hands, but visit it while you can as nothing lasts forever.

Lovely little good old fashioned local pub, if you love that traditional feeling pop in for a pint.

It was good to revisit the Boat again last week. When we arrived we received an immediate friendly welcome from the Landlord … with 3 cask beers on offer we opted for the draught Bass which proved to be in excellent condition. The pub was spotlessly clean, well heated (roaring log burner) and had the feel of a proper friendly local! We will return soon …

I popped in here after catching a wrong train. The Guinness was top and the price was amazing.

Excellent pint ...proper pub a rare find thank god they still exist.

This is proper pub with well kept beer. Now serves Timothy Taylors - even Golden Best - this pub has the best beer in town.

Nice, cosy pub. Mick is very friendly, and the company was excellent. Do try some of the cask ales. All in all, 4 hour well spent :)

Had a walk into town and came across this curious little place. We were soon made welcome by our lovely hosts, Mick and Laura great company nice locals nice beer. Highly recommend a visit, we will be back, well worth the 4 mile round trip walk. Thank you

Was asked to put a mask on, I explained I was exempt but he proceeded to ask for proof of this which according to the government guidelines we don't need to it's optional. I have trigeminal neuralgia so putting something over my face would be suicide! Discrimination at it finest! Fair to say i won't be visiting again!

Lovely old alehouse tucked away by the river on the very edge of town, its a two minute walk to the centre but inside the pub is a feeling of, well, for me being on that boat with a lovely cast iron fire blazing it is a a lovely atmosphere to come in out of the cold to. I imagine it is good any season, serving well kept ale and bar snacks. No cooked food but a great place for a beer or two. Good dogs and children welcome too!

A wonderfully traditional pub, great well kept beers, terrific friendly atmosphere, warm and comfortable. Great crowd of people, a conversation easy to find. A credit to the smashing team that make this great pub work. I must add that the only food available is cheese cobs and pork pies.

A proper, friendly, real ale pub. Aug 19 review revised. One star removed - over the last 18 months or so the beer prices are on a step upward trajectory. The beer quality is now variable too, never poor but often as not just average and not 'spot-on' as it once was.

Fantastic steak & ale pie for lunch! Delicious gravy, tender meat, whole mushrooms, chunky chips with rock salt ... Yummy!! The best calamari as a cheeky starter too. Great value too. An absolute must.

Lovely pub, best in Melton Mowbray by a long way, the best kept ale in town. Wood panelled bar with four well kept ales and a very nice ambience. Highly recommended. *UPDATE* I've just noticed they allow vaping here, not particularly happy with this personally, not enough evidence about the health risks involved.

Nice pub. Ale always in good condition and they're dog friendly. Not a food pub however, although cheese rolls and crisps etc. are available, mostly a nice friendly beer drinkers pub. Good selection of Scotch whisky and Gin as well.
