The Blue Grill in Newark and Sherwood

Not the Blue Room any more called the Brasserie 32 . Service very slow, food still of a good standard but not a la carte any more . Which is a shame used to be a wonderful experience.

love this resturant and the atmosphere will the wonderful team that look after you and the best team we have found in Warners for all of the hotel

Lovely tempting and varied menu, both evening and breakfast time. Good choice of meal dining times as well.

The Blue Grill is smaller, therefore service quicker. However, some things off the menu which was the icing on the cake NOT!

Fish dry & tasteless, obviously frozen, batter disgusting, steak regularly overcooked, pork chops dry & unappetising, ice cream came melted & wrong order, certain items unavailable. Service very slow, meals taking over 2 hours every day.

Well This is difficult. Arriving at the Blue Grill ( have been before) They had no record of our booking through OpenTable. As this was on a night when they were full (Valentines) we were shocked. However after a 40 minute wait the brilliant staff had accommodated us and made a table ready for us. And as usual up to their high standards. So would we book again with the Blue Grill yes. Will we ever use OpenTable again NO.

Very pleasant dining experience in elegant surroundings. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was nice, well presented and reasonably priced for a la carte. Nice to sit with a drink in the main hall or the library, very reminiscent of Downton Abbey. Visiting for the food on this occasion, may have to return as I hear they have four poster beds.

Lovely food, wonderful service. Will definitely go again. Shame Opentable hadn’t notified the restaurant of our booking, but they were amazing and accommodated us.

My friend got me the tea for my birthday with my husband ,it was out of this world marvellous highly recommended this .

While we were at Thoresby Hall we were invited to attend a meal with accompanying wines given by Wolf Bass. It was a wonderful evening. The room itself was beautifully appointed and service excellent. The food was very good. I would recommend a meal there.

From the moment we stepped into The Blue Grill we felt totally spoilt. The service we received and the food we were served were 1st class. I advise everyone who visits Thoresby Hall to spend one meal here especially if they have something to celebrate.

Invited to The Blue Grill by friends on Groupon. This offer in the end turned out to be no better value than the price for residents, but nevertheless, first impressions were good. Very grand bar & restaurant and I can see why there are so many positive reviews. But...this "upmarket" restaurant is let down by inexperienced and young staff. The service was very slow and the staff, although working hard, were let down by a lack of training/inadequate backing up. When it arrived though, the food was very good which is why I went for the very good rather than average rating I was considering!

Setting most impressive and food was very good.However the image that they aim to create as fine dining is let down by the very young and inexperienced staff who have little training as to how to serve the intended clientele. The service is slow and seems to be naive when asked basic questions. Also there appears to be a lack of gin and suitable wine glasses!

This is supposed to be fine dining. Perhaps I have been spoilt with top end fine dining. Poor quality, poor presentation. Very cold dining room.

Excellent food, very relaxed atmosphere, bags of space, attentive staff. Just a pity it is such a big building and this restaurant seems to be as far from the front door as you can get! But it was worth the hike!

Well worth a visit. Good food and attentive service. The menu choice is varied and attractive. Delightfully presented and delicious. For the £20 per head supplement it has to be the best bargain in Nottinghamshire.

This is the fourth year on the 12th of january we have had a meal at the blue grill and up to this year it's been exceptional . This year was slightly disappointing , what used to be a lovely dining experience has been down graded . The menu which used to be nicely presented in a two page folded file is now just a half page one sided card which does not give a good impression of fine dining. The staff were very pleasant but we're not as attentive as previous years and didn't give you the impression you were special. There had always been some sort of canapes presented after being seated this is gone. While the food is still excellent taste wise all five of our table complained about it not being hot enough, it was evident the plates had not been warmed before assembling the dish and that they had not been served straight away. Despite complaining about this twice we had no feed back or apologies. We decided to have cheese and biscuits to finish and there was plenty cheese on each serving but the biscuits were a joke , they appeared to be some type of puff pastry and there was only four of these very small biscuits to use against three good sized wedges of cheese. We did enjoy our evening despite the problems and we will be using the grill and hope there will be a return to its former excellent service. Colin Lambert

We dined last Friday evening in the restaurant and the whole experience was delightful from start to finish. All of the staff were friendly and professional. The tables are well spaced out in the tastefully and appropriately decorated elegant dining room. The young lady pianist/ vocalist was entertaining and an excellent accompaniment to the meal. The ambience was relaxed and there was a really good selection for all three courses on the menu. The scallops were beautifully cooked and the salmon trio starter was delicious and well presented. The ribeye and the fillet steaks we had were again beautifully cooked to our taste. For the dessert we chose the sharing platter which had a selection of six of the available desserts. Again, all were delicious and beautifully presented. We had our coffees in a library/ lounge room adjacent to the dining room and continued the evening in a lovely relaxed setting.

My partner and I recently dined at the Blue Grill. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and dining experience. Throughout our meal the staff were assertive and kept on top of our table. The food was excellent and the live music perfectly complimented the grand décor of the blue room making for a very pleasant environment. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent food, starters a bit limited but we enjoyed the experance. Its worth the extra £20. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and my wife enjoyed the lobster,even though it was small

Set in beautiful surroundings with fabulous service the food was amazing. Portions were small but beautifully presented and tasted divine. The staff were great, friendly and professional. Will definitely be returning

We recently visited the Blue Grill for the launch of their new menu. Everything about the evening was perfect. The good was amazing the staff attentive, helpful and professional. We would highly recommend this restaurant which is open to residents and non-residents. We will definitely be returning soon

We have now paid our second visit to the Blue Grill @ Thoresby Hall whilst staying there.

I have visited the Blue Grill 3 times now, the service and atmosphere it impeccable as always. Slightly disappointed to note the menu has changed 6 weeks ago and has not been altered on the Opentable website, it meant that what myself and my partner had selected before our visit was no longer available. Still a lovely treat for anniversaries, special birthdays.

The restaurant is in Thorseby Hall, which makes it a delightful setting. Give yourself time to explore the different rooms and bars as well as wander outside. The menu is well priced considering the setting but overall we were disappointed with the quality of our steaks but did enjoy the fish and desserts. The service is over attentive- trying a little to hard to be fine dining - sometimes less is more. Would go back with my wife.

What a lovely experience. Beautiful surroundings, excellent service and tasty, beautifully presented food. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional without being intrusive and we had a lovely relaxed evening.

Being Vegan and Gluten Intollerant normally means a plain green salad and a sorbet for dessert but thanks to Jordan the Chef I was reassured I would get something special and she didn't disappoint. To start I had a gorgeous Butternut squash Soup with a selection of mushrooms in the centre, a delicious Pea and Lemon Risotto for my main and a Candy floss, Apple Crumble and dairy free ice cream trio for dessert. I almost forgot to mention the canapes I had to start, they were beautiful, Mixed Beetroot and pickled mushroom. The Restaurant itself is beautiful, grand, warm and full of light. The tables are also nicely spaced out and of course you can't beat the view of the grounds. Our waiter Anthony was very kind and attentive and he recommended a delicious wine to accompany our meal. If you do have food intollerances like me and want to eat somewhere special call ahead and let them know what your requirements are. The Blue Grill is a taste experience you don't want to miss, try it once and you'll be back.

Splendid visit in every aspect. We arrived early for our reservation and were directed to the library where we were served drinks. The menu was à la carte but we were informed this is due to change in the next month or so. We had complementary canapés and warmed bread rolls whilst waiting for the first course and mini sweets to accompany the coffee at the end of the meal. Wonderful ambience, attentive staff, terrific comfortable venue, delicious food.

We were very disappointed with our celebration with family. The food was overpriced and the choice limited. My husband’s duck was tough. We did tell the waiter. The ambience was spoilt by sitting three tables next to each other in an almost empty restaurant. Our family conversation was not private.

This is our third year of celebrating our special occasion here, although we were very lucky to get in as the booking through open table had failed and we managed to get a table half hour later than the failed booking. As of the other previous years the food was excellent and the staff outstanding. Thank you for making are special occasion very special again.

Impressive building and architecture. Beautiful blue hall yet a bit cold in October, due to the size of the room. All food was fine apart from main course. Mixed starters for 2 were brilliant. Main course was slightly disappointing. Surf and turf. Lobsters were frozen, my friends steak was quite fatty and chips could of been a lot crispier. Desserts were lovely. Service was great.

My wife and I were staying and treated ourselves to the upgrade, so glad we did, great food, great service, great wine, served by staff that cared for what they were doing.

My wife and I revisited the Blue Grill having enjoyed a meal there a year ago. The surroundings are excellent, the service friendly and the food plentiful (&tasty;). We were definitely well fed and well looked after.

As regular weekend residents we occasionally treat ourselves by booking a table in The Blue Grill.

We went on a wowcher but it made no difference to the service we received. The dining room is beautiful with a magnificent fireplace and huge windows overlooking the grounds.The experience was over and above what we expected. Nothing was rushed. We were greeted at the restaurant door and seated, given menus and told of the specials and informed that Connor would be looking after us for the evening. We have never had a menu explained is such detail before and found it very helpful. All the food was served beautifully and piping hot . There were little extra specials that we were not expecting such as the canapés, hot bread rolls and a mini complimentary fruit salad to finish off the dining experience. Well done Blue Grill we look forward to bringing our friends. Thank-you Connor for a very pleasant evening.

I booked online as I was away in meetings. I wanted to book a special meal for myself and my family after boxing day. The restaurant was apparently not available, which I only found out when they called me a few days before we were due to go leaving me no time to organise anything else noting the time of year. The issue is that your website made no mention of this, nor did Thoresby Hall website. If it had, I obviously wouldn't have tried to make a booking.

We went to the Blue Grill while staying at Thorseby Hall. We are a couple in our 20s. The food was brilliant and the steak was the best I have had. I have my well done and it was still tasteful and easy to cut. We had 3 courses as part of a deal and it was lovely. The staff were attentive and I would go back again.

Awful meal delivered wrong and no apologies or refund massively overpriced for meals and very little choice on menu That's why not many in the place would never go again

The waiting staff were well trained and attentive, one little thing....when bringing out the food it's probably a good idea to know which guest ordered which dish so you don't have to ask the guest....a little extra touch that would be nice.

Absolutely stunning meal and location. Service was fantastic, not rushed but not ignored either. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend and will be going again.

My wife and I ate at the grill during our stay at Thoresby, the food was excellent and matched by the service; we had a great evening.

Sometimes you just want good food with no fuss in a pub - but sometimes you want five star service and fantastic food in a breathtaking setting, and this where the Blue Grill is unique in the area.

We went for my birthday and it was very good, the room is very luxurious and the food was superb, the staff very attentive the only thing I would say negative is that I think given the nature of the fine dining there should have been white tablecloths on the tables, you expect bare tables in a pub.

This was my first visit to the Blue Grill, having previously eaten here when it was The Blue Room, and I was very impressed with the changes. I was celebrating the birthdays of 2 'foodie' friends and we all ordered very different things from the menu - nothing disappointed. I'm so glad to have a restaurant of this quality open to non residents and to have somewhere to go for that special occasion. It's my birthday soon so I guess we'll be back!

Food cooked to perfection and service was friendly, helpful and attentive but not intrusive. Expensive but no more than you would expect from a quality restaurant. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The setting for this restaurant is superb in a large room inside the old part of Thorsby hall, the room has been restored to its original décor. There is a nice lounge bar next door were you can have a drink as you pursue the menu. The staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu the wine and the history of the building. All parts of the meal were outstanding although not cheap it is well worth the cost. All five of us where too full to have a sweet but they were quite happy to supply two cheese boards between us. I would like to thank all the restaurant and kitchen staff for a very memorable night.

Really great experience from start to finish. The food was spectacular particularly the "posh lobster fish finger". The "fairground attraction" dessert was an experience all of its own and the service was second to none. We had a waitress called Stacey who was very polite and well mannered she engaged in polite conversation and answered all our questions about the menu and also the wine list. She is an absolute diamond of a waitress and a real asset to the company and should be highly complimented for her approach to her work. Very impressed will definitely be returning.

I booked the Blue Grill for a special meal celebrating my partner's birthday, the service and meal were beyond compare. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for her.

On entering the restaurant you were greeted by the waiter who explained the menu and offers in detail as we had upgraded from the main dining menu at the hotel. The ambiance was very relaxing which set the mood making our dining experience feel very special . The decor is what you would expect from a stately home along with knowledgable attentive staff who you could see wanted to make our visit enjoyable. Unlike some cramped restaurant the seating layout was generous and we was given a table with ample space but there was also alternative seating for larger parties in the central area. The food was exceptionally presented and perfectly cooked to our request. It was well worth upgrading for the evening as we were made to feel like VIPs . On the night we dined there was some quiet music in the hotel bar for some of the time which we personally enjoyed although there was no ambient music in the restaraunt which may have been a nice addition . Overall it was a very pleasurable experience and would definitely visit again.

The food was all decent, but not anything special. My husbands starter came out without a key element, and drinks order was very slow. I will say the staff are all very friendly, and the tomato salad was lovely. Lovely location and worth a visit to the hall itself

2 issues no real vegetarian option & the bill included items from another table

First of all the setting of this restaurant is just beautiful! it must be said, the hotel is beautifully clean and tidy and the staff offer a very warm welcome. We were then shown to a table by Dan who introduced himself as our host for the evening and was extremly friendly and polite. As we had so many choices we quized Dan on his recommendations which we decided to order. Dan then reccommend some fabolous wine which complimented the meal. You can go to some restaurants and the staff are constantly at your table, The Bluegrill is nothing like that, they know just the right time to come and I throroughly enjoyed the meal.

Ours was a family group of 4 adults. Some of us had enjoyed the previously named &quot;Blue Room&quot; when it was a la carte. I was therefore confused when the fine stately decor in that magnificent room did not reflect the new &quot;grill&quot; label in my eyes - except that the tables did not have cloths, just bare Formica tops and paper serviettes. The staff were formally dressed and greeted diners on arrival, lovely touch but not expected at a grill? <br /><br />The new menu, on a large card, appeared simple at first glance but was actually confusing and had to be explained to us. You had a side dish served with this and not with that, a puree with this which could be swapped with that. We chose the sharing starter which was more a tasting menu of 6 tasters each - about £1 per mouthful. Steaks were about £19, the burger was £15. There were fish and chicken options too but they were not really a grill style - and if you chose side vegetables they were an extra £3.50 per portion. <br /><br />Simple desserts were styled with artistic flare not often seen in a grill.<br /><br />To sum up, lovely room, lovely staff, good service, uncertain identity, confusing menu, good but not great food, overpriced at £140 for 4 people.

Blue Room at Thoresby is always a delght, decor beautiful, staff excellent and food superb.

I bought a couple of vouchers from Amazon waghu beefburger and a starter and a glass of prosecco. The starters were amazing I had the sharing platter and I could not fault any part of it, now the burger was something else it was dry and it seemed overcooked. I would have thought with a good quality burger it would not have been cooked so long. I wanted to complain but my husband didn't want me to.I saw some of the other dishes coming from the kitchen for the residents and they looked delicious. My husband said we won't be back which is a pity because I would have liked to try other dishes on the menu.Now to the staff who were undoubtedly the best servers we have come across.This was the main reason that my husband did not want to complain it was the christmas period and the staff more than made up for the " burger".

lovely setting - the room was beautifully decorated. however there were no tablecloths, which seemed at odds with the setting. staff were very friendly. did not seem to be a great deal of choice on the menu - either for the food or the wine.
