Lovely evening at Blue Glass yesterday. Surroundings pleasant, customer service efficient and unobtrusive. Wine flight an excellent idea for the indecisive and the sharing mixed platter of superb quality.

My wife and I were staying in Bedford last Thursday and found this excellent Wine Bar by chance. Very interesting wine list with good advice from the owner (Rob). The Platters were superb. The Lamb Carpaccio especially was special. Great and generous portions for both the meat and cheese. It was a pretty quiet evening, but my wife and I both felt relaxed and very comfortable. Only regret was I did not get a a chance to buy one of the cigars that are available. Next time! I would strongly recommend that anyone living in the Bedford area looking for a chilled night out to give BlueGlass a try.

Rob & Debs (supported by Marcus and Anna) are the greatest of hosts. Visit often and always have a great time. Amazing food and company. Had a festive cheese and charcuterie board which was amazing. Different cheeses than you’d normally see, all delicious and a beautiful glass of wine to wash it down with. Delicious and fun as ever !

Great service and fantastic food. The team there are amazing !. Rob, Deb and their staff make for an amazing night. Miss it at your peril !

Travelled from Bishops Stortford to visit this place as heard good things. Was not disappointed! The staff, wine choice, food platters were excellent Will definitely re visit soon.

We booked a table for 2 and were greeted by welcoming staff and seated in the window. We had a delicious bottle of Primitivo and shared a portion of olives and bread and oil. This is a lovely setting for a date and I would absolutely go back again. They have a cute little snug area too!

Having passed this wine bar several times we decided to call in for lunch. We were warmly greeted by the proprietor who showed us to a window seat as requested. We chose a mixed meat and cheese platter and a bottle of Pinot Grigio Blush to accompany the food. The platter was very varied accompanied by freshly baked Ciabatta bread. The food was of very fresh and of very good quality. The wine was exceptional. We finished with coffee again of good quality. Overall we had a most enjoyable lunch in a well laid back atmosphere, being well looked after without being too intrusive. We will visit again.

This was the first time I had visited The Blue Glass as I don’t live in Bedford. Our waiter Marcus was very attentive and recommended a great wine which we ended up having 2 bottles of. The atmosphere was very chilled and we had a really relaxed and enjoyable evening. We will definitely be going back.

Had the loveliest of times this evening. Had already eaten at home and wanted to go somewhere for a drink and snack, this was the perfect place. From the initial enquiry phone call, which was answered by Nicolina, we just knew it would be fabulous. Nicolina was very welcoming and knew her stuff. When we arrived we were able to select our table and were given time time to order. We ordered the mixed board and two glasses of wine, it was all delicious. We truly had a wonderful time and Nicolina and Georgie were the best hostesses; thank you. We will definitely visit again very soon

Went here for a coffee before a show I was attending at The Quarry Theatre directly opposite. This wine bar/ charcuterie restaurant is nicely designed with a large selection of wines to drink there or buy to take home. The owner was a guy called Kevin who was friendly and I will return one day to try the food and evening atmosphere, as the day I attended the place closed at 7pm !

Kevin is the consummate host and the venue benefits from attention to detail, great choices of wine and a convivial atmosphere, perfect for unwinding from a busy day or week!

We had drinks here before eating at the restaurant next door. The wine list is good. The new sommelier is very knowledgeable and it was a pleasure talking with her. It was quiet and the atmosphere was relaxed. We enjoyed a nice bottle of Prosecco and beers. We will definitely revisit and hope to attend one of their wine tasting evenings in the future.

Truly pleased that this venue had opened its doors again . Went with my sister & friend today & received a warm welcome & excellent customer service . We had a cheese & meat board with gorgeous fresh bread & a bottle of wine . Highly recommend a visit as it’s such a relaxing place with a large selection of wonderful wines .

I didn’t know Bedford needed a wine bar until this one opened. We visited late afternoon and it was clean, nicely decorated and had a chilled atmosphere. Our waitress was very pleasant , professional and knew what wines to recommend based on our preferences. We really enjoyed the cheese platter and a couple of wines.

My wife and I looked in to see how things had changed since their move from across the road. The bottle shop is every bit as interesting as before but there's now a counter with a coffee machine and the hint of availability of catering (of which more in a moment).Behind the counter is an area with maybe half a dozen tables for 2-4 people, an alcove with easy chairs and a table for perhaps six and a long alcove with a dining table and chairs that would probably seat eight or ten. Decor and lighting is pleasantly low-key.We ordered wine and some olives which took rather long to arrive. The olives were fabulous, as they ought to have been at £3.50 for eight or ten. The wines were not as described in the tasting notes which was rather a disappointment. One was banal and workaday and the other a pleasant surprise - not what we thought we were ordering but an interesting accidental discovery.Catering is confined to pate, cold pie, cake and the like, probably well-matched to people who want a nibble with their glass but no more.Probably the greatest missed opportunity though was in the meet-and-greet department. We were served civilly but there was no sense of welcome from M le Proprietaire or anyone else. While we were there nobody circulated among the tables to impress on the clientele the warmth of welcome and, incidentally, to promote their future offerings.It would have been really lovely to say that we liked it so much that we'll be back soon, but sadly I cannot.

What a find! Amazing acoustics and stylish surroundings with interesting menu. At last I’ve found a place to meet up with business colleagues in Bedford. Went here with husband and friends after early evening show at the Quarry. I will be back!

I visited bar a Saturday afternoon, place is nice decorated and very spacious, there is enough space among the tables. So you can feel more comfortable to speak with your friends and enjoy a glass of wine. There is a big selection of wines and delicious cheese platters to accompany your drink.I also bought a bottle of wine to consume in home.You really need to visit this place, definitely a different choice in Bedford.

Visited with a party of twelve for a friends birthday. The venue is lovely, tables are well spaced so although full it didn’t feel crowded, while the staff were polite, friendly and very knowledgeable. There is an excellent selection of wines to suit all tastes and you can also buy from the wine merchants for consumption in the bar. They do a limited but excellent quality assortment of food platters which are also great value. All in all we had a great time and my wife and I have been back with a smaller party finding the experience just as enjoyable. Great place for either an intimate couples evening or for a much larger party. Wine connoisseur or novice this is the perfect place for a night out in Bedford.

15 of us were booked in a Tasting Room here as part of our daughters 30th birthday. The food and wine were excellent and there was a great atmosphere. The waiting staff and management were lovely, very polite and nothing was a bother. Thank you all.Highly recommended.

We have visited a number of times since opening, but the last two occasions we have popped in after a show at the Quarry Theatre opposite. This Saturday we introduced two more couples who live in Bedford. On arrival we were told that they close in 30 minutes (23:00). We were aware so ordered quickly. We then had numerous conversations with staff who would not process the order for two bottles and insisted we ordered glasses, even though we said we would take away anything not finished. By the time we were served, we had 10 minutes to drink up and were immediately told they were closing in ten minutes. This place is lovely and just in the right spot for Bedford and the theatre, but it was embarrassing that we had recommended the place to new friends and it ended up being awkward.

I had walked past The Blue Glass a few times but never ventured in . My friend an I had gone into town to attend a local event . Once we had finished we decided to see what this venue had to offer. It’s a real gem of a discovery . There is a lovely eating area indoor plus a fabulous array of wines to buy . There is also seating outside . As it was a lovely sunny hot day we chose to see outside . My friend & l ordered a cheese & pate board & a glass of wine . The bread was so fresh with a lovely selection of cheeses & crackers . Our waiter was knowledgable about the wines which helped us with our eventual choice . We ended up spending the afternoon there & tried out more wine . They also have a wine tasting event on every Wednesday . Couldn’t fault the friendly warm service . Will defiantly be popping more often .

As the weather was beautiful on Saturday, we decided on a little pub / bar crawl and decided to head to this Wine Bar. It had such a lovely scene selling different types of wine, gins, cigars!! We saw people have platters of different in there, I had a glass of Rioja which was nice in the sun!! Highly recommended!!

Attended for an Organic Wine tasting evening , really fantastic night, great selection of wines and great value for money. Charlie was clearly knowledgeable but he made it so much more, with what clearly, is a real passion for him. Looking forward to future events as well as popping in for a bottle after work !

We’ve been wanting to give this place a try since seeing it open. Came after dinner down the road, and lucky to get a table. Lovely choice of wine. Going back for cheese and charcuterie board as well as the wine soon. Noticed they do wine tasting events too.

Went on a Saturday evening at around 6pm with no reservation - they seated us no problem and the place did then get busy (we obviously came at the right time!). Nice place to come for a chat with friends as unlike most bars / pubs - you can actually hear each other speak!We went for a glass of wine before having dinner locally - although i was eyeing up the platters that came out and looked delicious - therefore I will be back! Staff were lovely and very accommodating.

An interesting concept . One half is predominantly a wine merchant, with an interesting range of wines to suit all pockets there are other drinks too. The other half is a cafe/ wine bar. It offers not only an excellent range of wines by the glass, but also top rate snacks. Prices are exceedingly good value for both wine and snacks . £17.50 for a sharing board for 2 of cheeses and meats with fresh bread is just perfect . There are other options such as olives and nuts... All perfect with that glass of wine. Just ask the staff if you aren’t sure they really are helpful and knowledgable .Within the cafe area there are two separate “ rooms” ie areas for private parties / meetings — a great idea.Highly recommended.

Ok wine and Ok service! First visit to this spot a little bit overpriced similar to London prices but I suppose it did not really matter after my second glass. I will probably visit again.

Nothing beats a great glass of wine, especially when that glass comes to you from the very knowledgable team at the Blue Glass.Great selection of wines to choose from. We had a bottle of appassimento which was lovely and the cheese board we had was also delicious. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind in stylish surroundings with friends and family. Just what Bedford needed. Can’t wait till our next visit.

Being someone who does not know much about wine, entering a wine bar with such a vast selection could feel intimidating. However, the vibe in The Blue Glass is friendly and welcoming. The menu is varied and staff are knowledgeable allowing a good opportunity to try new wine! The location, atmosphere and decor is wonderful, will definitely be returning and recommending to friends!

As a neighbouring nightlife business manager who has not only been a customer socially with the blue glass but also professionally, I simply cannot recommend this bar enough. John, the owner, is one of the most knowledgable wine merchants around and we, the Bedford watering whole visitors should consider ourselves lucky to have him. Walk in to be received with a welcoming shake of a hand and a well trusted recommendation, I can guarantee that you’ll either go home with a superb bottle of wine from the shop, or enjoy a crisp glass in the bar. Be prepared, it may be busy but the seated, table serviced style offers a relaxed setting and they ensure to keep it that way so don’t be put off if you can’t get a table - simply try again another timeCome. I was part of the ‘unbiased cretinous’ group, as referred to in a previous comment that was clearly a ‘ringer’ for the people running this place. My wife and I joined friends for a couple of drinks and we were excited that a new bar had opened up in Bedford. We expected more but felt we felt were an inconvenience to the staff and couldn’t finish our drinks quickly enough to venture onto a different place. Needs more atmosphere and ‘hands on tlc’ from the people running the place, especially as it’s a new venue. Shame,as there is certainly a gap in the market for a venue like this in a Bedford.

We visited with a group of friends last Saturday night. Despite the feedback we had had from friends, I wanted to remain open minded so suggested a visit here. The staff were ill informed and down right rude. One round of drinks for 6 of us was £52 and that was based on the fact that 2 of our party couldn’t get the drink they wanted the first time round...or the second time round..I have run a business in Bedford for 40 years..this is not going to last under the current management..Such a shame..

Lovely atmosphere. Great place to have a glass of wine (or two) and catch up with friends. Staff really knowledgable and friendly. Relaxed and fun! The cheese board is awesome!

Been a few times to visit now and yet to be disappointed. Never a huge wine drinker due to lack of knowledge on what vest to pick and struggle to try something new. The knowledge of the staff and the large selection of wines on offer gives a enjoyable experience. Had the meat platter to share which was a very generous portion and of great quality. Great atmosphere however gets busy so get there early!!

Cannot recommend this place enough. John and his team are incredibly knowledgable and passionate about what they do. If you ever get the chance, go to one of their tasting events - you will not be disappointed. Yes you need to get there early when they’re busy or you won’t get in; it’s not the type of establishment where you can just stand and crowd but that’s what it is. Don’t believe the negatives from the few cretinous/biased accounts. Bedford independents are going strong!

My husband and I had pre-dinner drinks here last night. A prosecco for me, small batch Columbian gin for him!What a fantastic concept! The decor and lighting created an atmospheric yet intimate experience. Customer service was excellent and major food envy at the passing sharer boards of deli meats, breads, pates and cheeses!A perfect start to our evening!This is an absolute gemstone of a place and we can't wait to return...

I was told I am not allowed to buy a bottle but only just a glass of wine as it was 45 minutes to closing. 20 minutes later I was thrown my ‘fine’ which at no point did I find hilarious and was asked to leave. Rude is an understatement! Owner is an absolutely Jockey! Needs to learn customer service skills. Old fart!

Called in early evening on a Saturday for pre dinner drinks with 6 friends. Two of our party wanted vodka, but despite the fact that I had checked the website and the signage outside says ‘ 100 spirits’ there was not a drop to be had. The waitress offered rhubarb gin as an alternative, which both were happy with. 2 minutes later she was back ‘we’ve just run out of that unfortunately’..at 6.30pm on a Saturday evening?! Not great. To be honest, the staff need to be more knowledgeable about the wines on offer and a bit more enthusiastic about the product they are offering. Kind of disappointing. Big selection but a bit impersonal...will be sticking with Decant in Castle Lane.. smaller offering but more atmosphere.

I’d been looking forward to coming here and it did not disappoint in anyway. Great selection of wines and cheese. It was extremely busy but the service was still very efficient. I’d get there early if you want a table or you may find yourself waiting. It’s worth the wait wait though. Congratulations to John and the team.

I had read reviews about this new bar opened up so we popped in after our meal at d’parys to be told there was no space! We could only stand with a drink if we were at a table. But there were no tables. We were given the option to stand outside by the tables in the freezing cold or leave as they were likely to be busy all evening! I can honestly say, I will never be returning. No effort made just like it or lump it! Not a great start for a business in the heart of Bedford

A wine bar with fantastic wines and lovely platters to eat! John who runs it has a great deal of knowledge of the wines of the world and is worth a few words of his wisdom. A great new venture

Well established as a wine shop The Blue Glass has moved to a new location and the transformation to a wine bar is excellent. Good wine, delicious charcuterie and pleasant atmosphere what more could you ask for.

Today I decided to visit The Blue Glass Cafe, Deli, Wine Bar and opted for the mixed deli board (cheese and meat selection) together with a glass of the house sauvignon blanc and a flat white coffee. Happy to report that the cheese selection and meats were of high quality, as was the fresh (still warm) bread and accompaniments; the wine I had was also a good match with the deli board selection. Coffee was also very good, which is a rarity, presumably due to careful bean selection and care and attention by a barista who clearly knows what they are doing. In in all this was a very enjoyable outing to a new establishment, one that without doubt I would definitely be revisiting in the near future with friends and family alike. Highly recommended, not only for the deli boards, wines and coffee but also for the attentive and informative service.

When walking along St Peter's Street this evening I came across a brand new wine bar/wine shop. It came as a delightful surprise to find a stylish space to stop and browse a vast selection of well chosen wines. What I particularly enjoyed was that I could do this whilst drinking a glass of wine. The Blue Glass was formerly a wine shop on St Cuthbert's Street but it has now expanded into a bar as well and my wife and I enjoyed a glass of Vega Rayo Rioja and a fine selection of British cheeses. The interior was tasteful, comfortable and spacious. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly and the presentation of the cheese platter was beautiful. I highly recommend dropping in.
