The Blue Elephant Tandoori Takeaway in Aberdeen City

How you got 4.5 stars must be fabricated. Rice was mushy, chicken tikka starter was extremely dry and on bone(not as advertised) chicken madras was not one bit hot and the meat(chicken) had the wrong texture indicating it was frozen. The salad was discoloured, old. Popadum was not crispy it was again old and the wrong texture. I don’t usually complain but this was a terrible experience. Easily the worst in Aberdeen, avoid!

Probably my favourite Indian in Aberdeen. Consistently good food, good value and wide range of tasty tasty dishes.

Review is for a home delivery , initially thought our order was wrong as food just did not look or taste as expected. Called in but person refused to acknowledged we ordered from Blue elephant although I gave order number and have the receipt! That was a bit bizarre . Turned out food was correct anyway just quite poor , as per previous comments , both our dishes were watery with no real substance and bahjis were obviously warmed in microwave. considering other reviews maybe more attention is given to Diners as takeaway certainly does not reflect the good reviews .

Wonderful meal, Uttar Pradesh Masala as consistently excellent as I remember from the early 2000's. Superb Bengali Curry. Great Service, £25 per head included poppadoms, starter, main, naan, rice, drink and complimentary coffees. Outstanding value in 2024. Lovely venue, very quiet (and unjustly so) for a Saturday.

Food is absolutely top notch and delicious. Staff are friendly and very accommodating. South Indian garlic chilli is delicious and full of flavour and spice. Only downside is that the tikka paneer could be a bit more generous with the portions. However I’m not going to mark down a star as maybe I’m just a bit greedy lol🤣

Deal not explained. Found no rice with meal and, after phoning, was told I hadn't ordered. Feel the staff should be more a product expert rather than an uninterested participant in the process of customer service. Poor

Wonderful food, service and restaurant design. This was our second visit to the Blue Elephant and it did not disappoint. I really like the new blue theme in the restaurant which matches the name. The restaurant is immaculately clean, with comfy chairs and plenty of space between tables. The food was delicious and excellent value for money. The service was lovely, very quick and attentive without being overbearing. We will be back very soon.

Cant comment on atmosphere as. Got takeaway Absolutely disgusting don't waste your hard earned money on this place. Poppadoms were greasy and stale and watery curry's, you could honestly make a better meal yourself. Avoid.

Food was terrible. Chunks of processed chicken in a watery, curried powdered sauce. No flavour or substance. And not cheap. Ultimately binned it, despite the cost. Would not recommend. Plenty of alternatives nearby.

I dined in with my mum before the theatre and it’s the best me either of us have had in a very long time. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious. Very reasonably priced, and I cannot recommend it enough. Will definitely be back.

Popped in past here for some dinner last night and was not disappointed. Great choice on the menu and the food was very tasty indeed. Service was very good although it was quite early when we are. Reasonable prices as well and look forward to visiting again soon!

It was a very good time there with delicious foods and warm environment. The behaviour of the owner was very friendly. And as a vegetarian I would say there is a nice option for vegetarians items. Would like to go there again.

The ambience and decor are pretty nice. Wish I could say the same about the paneer kadhai I ordered. Coming from India, I was expecting an Indian restaurant to nail this simple dish. What came to the table was entirely different and nowhere close to what it was supposed to be. Although overall the service was great, I had to wait longer than I would have liked to even get the bill to the table although the restaurant was largely empty

I am an OMIPRAZOL person and I stopped having dinners since long . But had a guest who likes authentic Indian food, hence went for a dinner to Blue elephant and the food was so good that I had a good dinner and trust me the food was so nicely cooked and specially the NAAN which was freshly made and the lamb kebab were fantastic. The ambience is really good and I loved the well organised, clean , relaxed environment. The owner was so polite, humble and he himself was there in the hall supervising the finest details. Shall definitely recommend

The owner is very friendly, always working hard and never seems to take a day off 😀. The starter was great as always and the main course is served traditionally, like it should be. The recommendation was spot on for what I was asking for and tasty when it arrived. All the food was to a high standard and always is. The price is good, not too expensive. The restaurant is decorated out nicely and the staff are always friendly. Been here a number of times and will continue to do so, returning customer and got a complimentary drink.

Nothing to shout about , partners korma was very good in her words but onion Bhaji was very average.my chicken pakora was almost missing when it came to portion size and my dansak while tasty was the hottest I’ve ever had.overall a average meal .

We were recommended by a friend to try the Blue Elephant and ordered a takeaway Called in our order and was ready for collection in 20 minutes. The price was reasonable and we found the meal to be really appetising and with real quality with large portions. The popodoms and nan-bread was first class and we would highly recommend the Blue Elephant.

Fast delivery. I liked tandoori masala mix dish but the chicken wasn’t fresh.

I called and made an order for delivery for my son who lives in Aberdeen, (I'm in Glasgow). This was a birthday treat for him. The salmon was recommended and I also ordered a few other items. Food was delivered on time. Excellent service, my son tells me food was delicious, especially the salmon. Would highly recommend, and we will definitely be ordering again.

Great tasting curry, pekora and Naan. Burnt my spiced poppadom. So gave me 2 normal ones aswell so very respectable.

Had a sit down meal this weekend. Have been using the blue elephant for years as my go to takeaway. Alway good and great staff.

Absolutely terrible. Waiting staff were shouting at my friend when he complained about the poor quality of the food being served which was cold on arrival. The chap in charge needs to calm down and stop being aggressive. We had to leave to avoid confrontation. Absolutely ridiculous and won't be back. Best avoided

Will never go again. Complained about standard of the food on offer being poor, and aggressive staff member was extremely rude about the whole thing. Managed to blame my friend for the restaurant serving lukewarm food and started shouting at us.

Yesterday I ordered food for the first time but it was horrible, I think Restaurant owner doesn't no what is Prawn and tiny shrimp. I ordered special Archari Masala and Begun Bhaji in Archari they put very tiny praw and charged £9.50 and taste was worst, Begun just put masala and oil no taste all food gone in bin waste of money, I will never recommend BIG ZERO START

worst korma ever...I asked for sultanas and almonds in it and I got 3 sultanas and a couple cashews and a yellow bland sauce..the coconut rice wasn't good either and I didnt get a decent naan either....was measly

We really enjoyed the food here, we’ll definitely go back. Of course, it’s a different cuisine to the European one, but there’s such a long list of options in the menu that you’ll definitely find something you like. They also seem to be quite a small business, so take this into consideration when comparing options. When we went there, you could tell that they were actually happy that we’ve chosen that place, a big business won’t really care about you.

While I have not had the privilege to dine in yet, I have ordered dinner here a few times. It was delicious and plentiful every single time and promptly delivered.

had one of the best takeaway indian meals , poppodoms were not too crispy but everything else was really good. Nan really good half an hour after we picked it up.

Has to be some of the worst customer service I’ve ever came across. I spent £40 to treat my partner and boy did we get a treat. The chicken looked looked like it had been taken out the packet and slapped it in some sauce. Was not even remotely cooked. Of course though the takeaway completely deny this and even though pictures were sent. They claim it’s the spices that made it look like that but everyone knows what uncooked chicken looks and feels like. Absolutely disgusting and to flat out deny and ignore is shocking. Avoid like the plague. Try currymount in Aberdeen!

Excellent restaurant. Always great service and very good value for money. The absolute best veggie curries in Aberdeen. Order the North Bengali Spice and you won't be disappointed

I don’t live in Aberdeen anymore, but I really loved the Blue Elephant for its consistent high quality food and reliable service. I ordered a takeaway in advance to be delivered later in the evening to my dad for his birthday in lockdown. It arrived bang on time and he messaged me to say it tasted absolutely delicious and even felt healthy for a curry! Ingredients were fresh and he thoroughly enjoyed it - I was of course very jealous.

The Blue Elephant is always great! There's a large selection of different dishes with unique flavours. The staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. They do sit in or take away. Definitely one of the best India restaurants in the city.

I have visited this establishment twice now, service is excellent and the food is so tasty and fresh. Hopefully see you all again soon.

Always friendly staff and food tastes fresh and delicious. We try new curries there every time and it's clear a lot of fresh ingredients and passion go into their cooking. The meal for two deal is particularly good value.

We've had home deliveries from this establishment for quite some time now but this was the first order for a while.When I telephoned I asked for the meal for two at £27 to be delivered at 7.00 and gave the chap my address and postcode.As my wife wanted a dish she hadn't had before I asked for more information..he confirmed that both dishes were of medium heat. At 6.20 my intercom buzzed,it was a neighbour..the delivery had an address but no name.I told the guy that I wasn't happy but accepted delivery.When I looked at the food my wife's curry looked like a Korma(it was supposed to be a Special Matta)and was very bland..she refused to eat anymore as she said it was more like sweet custard!. After our meal(we shared my curry which was nothing special but ok) I called to voice my disappointment and the issues I'd had.The chap I spoke to was very apologetic but said they were too busy to do anything at the moment but he was keen get the owner(he was the guy who took the order)to telephone me to apologize and see how they could make amends...my phone has yet to ring. Don't know how this poor food and service has happened but,at the moment,I have no plans to give him my business again.

Set Menu for 2 is great value for money. Delivery was very quick (they said one hour but came in 40 minutes!) We have tried lots and lots of Indians in Aberdeen and this is now our new favourite! Thank you. ** chicken tikka masala spicy is great!

We have ordered from here a few times to takeaway and the food is always so tasty and full of flavour! We order the set meal for 2 and you get so much for the price. The staff are very lovely and welcoming. Will be back soon again.

4 of us had a very enjoyable curry prior to heading to Pittodrie - arrived at 6pm to be warmly greeted by Mr Das the owner Swiftly shown to our seats and had great poppadums, onions etc followed by a mixed starter and a variety of curries rice and nan. Food of excellent quality and reasonably priced. Well worth a visit and a shame the restaurant was not busier. They do a buffet on Sundays. He has a regular clientele who know what they can expect in terms of food and service. For those who have not been well worth a try. Easy on street parking too!

Low-key one of the best indians in Aberdeen. Fabulous service and wonderful food. A treat when they do their buffets. Lamb dishes are fantastic and something as simple as nan bread, fu**ing fantastic! Very very very good value for money. Please don't crowd the place because we want a table next time we go!! Hahaha
