Overall a great place to stay. Located just under two miles from sidmouth and within about 100 yards from the byes. You can either walk or cycle down the byes next to the river into Sidmouth centre. You can't really fault the rooms. Everything is clean. With tea coffee and hot chocolate available. A very good breakfast choice both hot and cold. The reason I didn't give an overall five was not the accommodation but the bar and restaurant. See attached menu. The choice for vegetarians is limited. Had the lamb and the portion especially the vegetables was small. The drinks from the bar were expensive compared to other pubs we drank in around the area.

Located on a busy road, public parking on the other side of the road. Double glazing was installed to reduce noise. On the other hand, it comes apart and we can't open the window. Clean room. Breakfast ok. Having to leave early we asked the day before if possible to have just a muffin or a biscuit. We were told that it was not possible. However, at 7:00 a.m. the staff was already there. At 150€ per night we are used to better service.

Very friendly staff. Food was lovely. Dog friendly Rolo enjoyed it too. Had some food and a couple drinks on the way home.

We had a roast and nothing looked or tasted fresh. Staff were uninterested and didn’t make us feel particularly welcomed.

We were a walk in for Sunday roast, we were accommodated food was excellent service was good will be back great work 👍

Sunday lunch with Wife and dog. Lovely place. Food and drinks were excellent. Service was fine. I would unreservedly recommend to all. We will return shortly.

Super dry chicken with way too overcooked pasta. Superhot, as in boiling hot - so definitely been microwaved. Gordon would love this place for Kitchen Nightmare.

Food quality poor . Some items served should not have come out of kitchen as extremely overcooked, items missing from meals , brought out separately after having to ask then tried to charge extra . Chaotic table service although server was pleasant. Cost over £100 for 2 adults n 3 kids , value for money non existent, quality very poor , would not recommend.

Big selection of decent pub grub. Update: now a lot more expensive, though the food was good, the service wasn't great. Very busy though.

What a little gem. Highly recommended. We have just eaten a superb meal at the Blue Ball. The venue I understand has new management. The menu had just the right number of options, we were all impressed by the quality of the food, sauces were some of the best we had tasted, portions were perfect. This is restaurant quality food. The atmosphere was pleasant and the staff were excellent, great communication and service. They were added greatly to the experience. Thanks foe a very enjoyable evening.

Great place to stay whether it’s in their rooms or in their field.. The food is delicious and well presented. The prices are very reasonable and not over priced. The decor is very inviting and has a warm feel to the place. My son loved the toilets as they are perfectly for all ages to use.. Good location for walking down to Sidmouth through the Byes. Also handy having a bus stop pretty much outside which the 9/9A comes every 30 minutes. Huge car park that can cater for a lot of vehicles. Staff are well presented and very polite and helpful and will give a lot of help when asked. The campsite is only open during Sidmouth Folk week, however if you have a motorhome, they would probably let you use the field if you come for dinner.

The Blue Ball Inn is perfect for a lazy Sunday, with the family (in our case, 7 adults, a toddler and dog). The staff are very accommodating; they sat us in a semi private area, perfect to keep our niece and dog entertained away from the other patrons. The service was prompt and friendly. We ordered starters, which game out quickly and we're delicious! The pork bites and the chicken wings were very good. My husband and I both had the beef roast, which was very satisfying. The vegetarians at the table also seemed to enjoy their meals a lot too! If we ever end up in this area again, will certainly return.

Had an evening meal here . It was a lovely pub and had a great atmosphere.

Went for lunch on a Tuesday, the car park had quite a few car in which is a good sign. The service was great with the staff very pleasant and helpful. We both had 3 courses from the ample menu, which had an excellent variety of food options. The food was fantastic and very nicely presented with a sufficient amount per course. All in all an excellent experience and recommended to anyone in the area looking for a good place to eat. An extra bonus was they are dog friendly inside and out, which was great as it was a wet day. We will definitely return in the future.

We popped in on Sunday hoping to get a table, as we hadn't booked. The waitress just managed to fit us in, which we were very grateful for. This was my first time visiting in about 6 years. The place has a really good ambience, staff were efficient and friendly despite it being quite a busy Sunday lunchtime. I had the roast and it was delicious, every item was full of flavour. Can't wait to recommend and return again.

We have been many times before to this place over the years, and somehow I wouldn't exactly go overboard with it , it's a reliable hostelry I should say .

We stayed 2 nights, weekend break. Best pub ever stayed in. Big comfy bed, wet room bathroom, big plump pillows and duvet. Good chefs. Food is excellent and consistent over our stay, cocktails hand made not pre mixed,. First impressions? Clean, I mean everything and everywhere. They run 7 days a week and the tables are clean, nothing worse than a sticky table, not here very good. Breakfast, nice variety, good old traditional is worth the stay, again evidence of a good chef and organization. Huge car parking opposite pub,Well go back.

Service here is great, the drinks cool and food splendido, my only downer would be portion sizes of the main courses could do with being bigger. Otherwise, all good.

We dropped by on Sunday for dinner, lovely old pub and a good selection of beers. That's about all I can say without going into a rant....... we arrived just gone 19:30 and was told that the kitchen had just closed, we were offered bar snacks but this turned out to be a bag of nuts or crisps. Eventually decided to have a beer and then move on, as we were on a motorcycle (maybe the reason for the poor attitude) we found a table and got comfortable with our bike gear around us. When I ordered the beer I was then told that my wife and I couldn't sit at that table as it had just been polished! Needless to say, we left and will not ever be returning, absolutely disgusting behaviour.

A really classy place, lots of lovely touches in the rooms. Welcoming staff and good food. Beds huge and comfy. Bathroom clean, great hot shower, some nice product provided. Breakfast spot on. We were all looked after very well.

We've just spent six nights here and had a fabulous time. Lovely friendly owners and staff, fabulous food. The rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Charming old fashioned pub good food and service with a smile not to mention the best beer I’ve tasted in a long time!

We ate lunch here on a deal, lunch and a drink for £12. I understand lunch won't be large but my meal was more like an appetiser. The service was friendly but there was too much for the two ladies to keep up with really. More staff and bigger portions would be good. There are better places to eat in and around Sidmouth

The food was delicious, the ambiance and decor were charming, and our server, the curly-haired boy, was remarkably polite and attentive. Unfortunately, when we tried to compliment the chef, when he was stood at the bar, we were met with extreme arrogance and slight rudeness. Perhaps it's best if he remains in the kitchen to ensure a positive experience for any customers and to stop putting them off returning!

Delicious food once again. Slight mix up with drinks but no biggy. This is my new favourite place. Just lovely.

We went for our anniversary, and had a gorgeous steak meal followed by dessert, I had a scrumptious bread pudding and husband had a frangipani tart. We were served by a lovely young man who gave us great service. We did not stay here it was just for a meal. I would throughly recommend a visit, and dogs are allowed.

Walked here for lunch which was good with super friendly service. Dog friendly. Very clean. Over all a wonderful time.

A group of 13 of us had dinner here and the food and service were absolutely faultless. It's no mean feat to get so many plates of really good and well-presented food out at the same time. We shall definitely be recommending the blue ball and will definitely be returning!

Although the food was tasty the vegetables were cold. Replacements were ordered but took so long to arrive the meals were nearly finished.

Service was a bit slow but the food was tasty. The drinks are quite expensive.

The first time we visited the Blue Ball we knew its the place for us . Good food and friendly service plus they are dog friendly . Its our local now when we are on holiday at our caravan . Good luck to the couple that have recently taken over.

We were booked in here for a meal, early evening. The food and service were all very good as we have always found when visiting over the last few years. My issue, is with the amount of dogs in the restaurant side of the pub. Not everyone wants to share there meal with dogs, I like dogs but dont choose to eat with them around, as my wife is allergic to animal fur. I feel you can have dogs in the pub side, but they should not be allowed in a restaurant. There was also some very young children doing circuits around the bar / restaurant, with no supervision from parents/guardians. Not ideal, when hot food and drinks are being carried by staff and customers.

Can't comment on the rooms as only popped in for lunch, but the staff were very friendly and accommodating, reason I say that is please don't get to sit in front of the window by the gardens as there is a lovely gap that let's the howling wind through. Food was about normal, and average priced but the portion size was grim. Sausage and mash was just that as I saw one sausage on a dollop of potato, luckily I had burger and chips but it was a double pattie, thank god as it only came with 8 chips! Ooer. Any ways another word ofvwarningbifvyour thinking of popping in with kids the entry/exit door literally leads out straight onto the main road, that is not against the pub its just a warning for those with little ones.

As others have said, the veg with the roast are watery and bland. Despite being advertised with Yorkshire puddings, only one of our meals came with one... and a half of a Yorkshire at that! No bread sauce with the chicken either. One tiny dish of cold, soggy vegetables to share [though they did bring extra when asked - which were better quality) and cold gravy. Children's menu was mostly meat based, and one of the vegetarian options wasn't available. Staff were LOVELY and premises clean, but overall I don't think we will return.
