The Black Oven in Northampton

Visited this restaurant one Thursday with my wife to try some caribbean food. I have to say it did not look much from the outside but what a little gem it was. They had opened late because of a flood and advised us right at the start they were running quite late with their prep (we were there early) but we decided to wait it out. The staff (and the owner) were very friendly and engaging and supplied a free drink and some wings as an apology for the delay. When the food came (goat curry) it was really nice. This is not fine dining and does not pretend to be. Rather the owner and his brother want to serve the food of their parents and grandparents, authentic. It was a lovely evening and we will definitely go back

After having visited in July and had a good experience wanted to go again with a different group for a meal. Had to book in person as their phone line is still not working from nearly 2 mths ago and they didn't respond to FB either! Arrived and they didn't have our booking, even suggesting that we had the wrong place! There was only 2 others in the restaurant, not surprised if you can;t book! Only had 1 type of cocktail after the first 2 were served, no ales just bottled lager and no malibu & coke either. They did have most of the starters and they were all good. Did have a couple of the mains but the ones we wanted were all there and tasted nice on arrival. We wanted to finish with dessert so asked for the menus and selected what we wanted to only be told that fruit cake was the only item available - so we paid the bill and went to the nearest supermarket to buy our dessert and took it home to eat.Really not sure how long they want to stay in business in you can't book easily, buy a drink or a dessert that you want? Its a real shame.

I have wanted to go here for a while, so booked it to celebrate husbands birthday. I booked a table, but there was no need it was very quiet, which makes it difficult to understand why the service was so poor, food delivery slow and food tepid.The hostess/waitress was on her phone most the evening. We managed to get some drinks when she eventually took our food order! We had to go up to counter for a second drink and the bill.Our main dishes were brought out before our plates were cleared awsy. The poor lady from the kitchen had to do that as well as issue food as the hostess/waitress was busy..on her phone. Starters were hot, but main dishes were lukewarm, but by this point we just wanted to leave. So disappointed, it could be a great place, but the service was non existant. We tried to not let it ruin what had been a great day.

Visitamos un sábado por la noche con un grupo de amigos que regularmente salir una vez al mes para una comida. Estaba deseando algunos alimentos diferentes y este restaurante no me decepcionó relativamente tranquilo, ya que tenían problemas con su teléfono, así que incluso la oportunidad de conocer el dueño y Chef!Comida muy auténtico y experiencia (sin prisas). Tuve las gambas (pero ojalá había ordenado la saltfish buñuelos ya que eran enormes), principal era su típico plato de resultado & saltfish que era genial terminamos con chocolate fudge brownie, ya que soy un chocoholic! !Gran servicio y los precios razonables, los cócteles eran fuertes dice que mi otra mitad y 2 por 7 libras! !Gran noche y volveremos como Arnie diría! ! Jaja.

Yo no sabía que existía hasta hace poco TBO! Normalmente terminan yendo a MC o para la comida del caribe, así Wellingborough me alegra escuchar que era un lugar en Northampton.Visitamos aquí con mi amigo. Ambos teníamos sal pescado buñuelos para empezar que eran increíbles!Curry de cabra y tuve que también era increíble! Me gustó que había más carne que huesos en el curry como algunos de los lugares que he visitado parece que te dan un plato de huesos!Mi amigo tenía al vapor pescado, que salió todo. Si yo había pedido este no hubiera sido capaz de arreglárselas con los huesos de recoger, quizás podría ser poner en el menú, así que la gente sabe que este se ven?Luego acabados con pastel de jengibre!Un lugar fantástico, el personal es muy amable, y sin duda volveremos! Seguid así :).

Newish Caribbean, great food, good service. Nice to have a different cuisine. Well done guys

Visité el Restaurante Horno negro con los miembros de la familia que todos disfrutamos de nuestras comidas. Era muy sabrosa y el servicio era muy bueno. Recomiendo encarecidamente el curry de cabra el sabor de cómo mi abuela solía hacer! ! !Los cócteles también son buenos! ! ! Incluso mejor cuando son 2 por 7 libras. 00.

Wow just amazing from the very attentive staff to the amazing food well worth a visit will definitely be going back to try more food on the menu xx can't wait to go back xx

The closest you will get to real yard food in Northampton. Good price and great taste 😃 a much better alternative to turtle bay which is not authentic.

Had a great night with my friends food was amazing , staff were friendly and I love the pumpkin rice.

Went here with a group of friends. Initially hesitant as not keen on spicy food and never tried Caribbean but was quick to change my tune! This place had something for everyone, great variety in menu and very welcoming atmosphere. Really enjoyed the fillet steak with homemade fries- 10oz fillet for only £15, such great value. Would fully recommend a visit. I'll definitely be going back. Thanks to the staff for a great night.

Came as a party of 12 for our social. Food was great, and tasted very authentic, staff were really polite as well. Definitely worth a visit.

I had a lovely meal tonight at black oven, staff were friendly and nice venue had a warm atmosphere , reggae music in background.The food was delicious I had Tilapia fried fish with pumpkin rice and my friend ate brown chicken stew food both dishes were delicious tasted like my mums home made food loved it would definitely go again

Friends of mine had recommended trying the black oven as I am a lover of all things carribean. Ate in twice but I always go in on a Sunday and order ackee and saltfish to take away it's the best!!! Restaurant itself is beautifully decorated menu quite varied since a relaunch. My favourite place by far. Chefs produce real authentic cuisine portions and prices reasonable staff very friendly. Shout out to Liam and Mel who always greet me with a big smile. Highly recommended #onelove

The food was lovely and it was our first time trying out carribean which we really enjoyed. Staff were very friendly too making sure we were okay and satisfied with our food, great service :)

Lovely atmosphere. Service could be quicker, but the wait was worth it. The food was delicious. Perhaps heating the plates would be advisable. There was a mistake with our order, but this was dealt with immediately with no fuss. Will definitely be going there again.
