The Black Horse in North Somerset

This is a traditional pub, full of charm. Friendly customers and staff. We had an amazing tasty lunch, great selection of drinks including our favoutite Butcombe. A hidden gem.

What a place! Didn't eat while we were here so can't comment on the food but the 5 stars for the atmosphere was totally deserved. Amazing place with such an old world feel. Will definitely be coming back! I bet it's great in the summer, so much outside space. Hidden gem

I love sitting in the garden with a nice ploughmans lunch the only criticism I probably have is £5.90 for a pint of lager but I'm not a very big drinker so perhaps that's the going rate

I found this place near the turnpike and I just did not check that this pub really local one for local people. It suppose serve food but when we arrived driving for some time on the narrow road praying no one come towards us they told that food served till 13-00. All visitors looked at us like we were the spacemen:) also very small parking space! And come back was nightmare too, very narrow village …

Fantastic summers evening, not a spare seat outside , managed to squeeze the Lotus in to the one remaining car park space !

It was a busy Saturday lunchtime during the Six Nations Rugby tournament and we were a little late for lunch. But they serve lunch to 2:30 pm and it was 1:50 pm, so we were served. We had the soup of the day, which we are outside under a cover, with a heater. Even outside, we were made to feel welcome. Food was great. Will be going back!

Take yourself back in time, this is a traditional pub. Lovely oak timbers, traditional local ciders and ales. Friendly atmosphere, warm welcoming fire. Loose yourself for a few hours.

Our best friends mum had her wake here today. It was such a special afternoon, superb food and even a visit by a couple of ponies. Such a wonderful send off. Thank you so much David and Linda

Just a Brilliant old pub, although sometimes it's hard to find a seat as it's so popular. The beer is brilliant, and had a lovely open fire. My favorite pub in this area for sure.

Mega stary pub, nic się w nim nie zmieniło od wielu, wielu lat. W środku trochę czuć starość 😛, ale na zewnątrz jest dużo miejsca. Polecam turystom! Piliśmy tak tylko piwko.

Lovely old proper pub, great beer and food, with a lovely garden too. Regular stopping off point on our journey from the Midlands to Cornwall.

It'll have been said many times already, but the Black Horse is a truly rare pub these days. Friendly and traditional with a good selection of local brews. It's frequented by absolutely all sorts of people and everyone is welcome. We enjoyed it immensely as always.

A wonderful pub, great staff, food and drinks. It has that beautiful Somerset county pub feel to it, without trying. The beer garden or Cider garden as we are in Somerset is a delight. Honest food the ploughman's is perfect. It's only 5 minutes from junction 20 but feels on a different planet

Just popped in for a drink what a fabulous pub with beer garden. Lovely staff very friendly the food that we saw looked delicious we will definitely be back to try the food. Great find will deffo be back. Came back for lunch 16 /6/23 recommend the homemade ham egg and chips and homemade beef chilli great pub freindly staff and owner am only sorry we are going home soon would love this pub as my local thank you.

Menu mainly consists of rolls/baguettes...there is a specials board, but both the lasagne and ham/egg/chips has run out by time we ordered. It gets busy & there is a wait for food. I would say this was mainly a drinking pub for people who love ale. Beautiful building & lots of history.

A lovely proper pub. We popped in for a quick drink while on a walk. It's great sitting outside in the garden. They had live music on the day we went (Sunday) Brilliant choice of real Ales and premium Larger's. They also do meals and snacks and although we didn't try any, they looked really good. It was very busy as well, so looks like it's a popular place. I've been back in again (6/6/2022). I'm pleased to report it it as good as ever. We sat outside in the garden this afternoon and was really lovely. It was a bit quiet but what do you expect on a Monday. Definitely worth a visit.

Arrived here half way through a walk. Well known historic pub but very disappointed with the beer. They charged premium prices and it was so badly kept we did not stop for a second round.

Stopped by for a drink and some lunch. Good friendly staff. We had a tuna mayo roll and a black pudding and mushroom baguette. Both were very generously filled. Would definitely recommend.

This is a proper old school pub. Excellent beer choice, which is much appreciated. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere amongst staff and customers.

Authentic dosn't do The Black Horse justice. 'The Kicker ' as affectionetly known to locals is a village pub whose origins (and decor) are lost in the mists of time. Inside the wooden interior and snug bars retain a genuine olde worlde atmosphere and you get the feel of generations of locals who have met, put the world to rights and quaffed the excellent ales. Outside there is a generous garden for the summer months. I enjoyed a substantial (and tasty) lasagne under a spreading walnut tree. Highly recommended, particularly on a cold winter's night with a good fire in. Its a popular place, but parking is provided. The only problem is finding it in the first place, but maybe we could keep this little treasure as our secret?
