We ate here for my wife's birthday, oh what a fantastic choice. It is BYOB which is a nice change , the food was absolutely fantastic. The owner is so nice and helpful . He has as well as the restaurant a selection of deli products on sale for you to take away and try to replicate the dishes on the menu, a must in my view.

Kevin explained every dish as we ate it. The cheese platter with 3 different cheeses and meats was delicious as were the accompanying roasted almonds and pickles complimented the platter. The acorn fed iberico ham was something we had not tasted before. The following tapas were exceptional the baby squid stuffed with black pudding is out of this world as was the pork cheeks and the meatballs the taste of each dish was exceptional and had never encountered before even in Spain!

We had an incredible meal of cured meat, cheese and tapas, and were guided through everything by the wonderful Kevin. The food is fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is low key and informal, in a way that helps you relax into the food and your company. The absolute best!

This is an absolute gem of a restaurant. The food is excellent and the service is outstanding. Thanks so much for our enjoyable evening.

ound this restaurant after being a bit overwhelmed by choice when visiting Edinburgh. Tapas was the decision and the Black Hoof was chosen after reading the 5* reviews. Our family arrived to a warm welcome and were guided well through the menu. Food arrived at the perfect pace and with more information about each dish. All dishes were delicious! Being a family ranging from children to grandparent, with different food tastes, were not easy to please all at the same time. The Black Hoof did this hands down. Thank you for a very enjoyable experience for our last night in a lovely city.

Just ordered and received a whole Jamon Iberico de Bellota "pata negra". (received the next day!) The service has been second to none: super-fast, efficient, professional, very friendly, and in addition, very competitive price. I will write another review when I have tasted it! But if the taste and texture of the ham is anywhere near as good as the service, I will need more than 5 "stars" to rate it. I can only very warmly recommend shopping at the Black Hoof. If I did not live so far from Edinburgh, I would have gone to eat there!

Amazing very authentic Spanish tapas with great service from Kevin. The iberico jamon is the best I’ve ever tasted, the slow cooked pigs cheeks were out of this world, the Valencian baby squid was also very very good. Overall a wonderful, intimate, authentic taste of Spain in Edinburgh 👌🏻🇪🇸

This is honestly the best tapas I have had outside of Madrid. The Jamón Ibérico is to die for and all that is missing is a wine list that complements the food. However, if you forget to bring your own, a supermarket is nearby - so take a bottle and enjoy the experience.

The best Spanish restaurant and shop in Edinburgh! Cozy, tiny, with just spanish dishes, variety and with a good products! I had some nibbles to start, spanish chorizo and "pan with tomate" follow by Octopus and croquettes with canarian sauce. I wished had more but, definitely, I will be back there as soon as I can.

We had a great evening. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. We started the evening with a 30 minute educational master class teaching us about Jamón. It was interesting, fun and made for a wonderful farm to table experience. We are already planning for our next visit.

4 of us met up after not seeing each other for too long last night and we couldn't have asked for more. This restaurant/shop is informal and relaxed which is what we like and it's got a really simple and calm interior. We asked for recommendations from our waiter (worth noting he was a great guy) and we ended up eating most of the menu. Some items were unavailable so we couldn't try them but this is a good reason to go back! Notable dishes were the black pudding, stuffed squid in ink, meatballs, beef cheeks and the anchovies. It was all excellent but these are must trys. The started board to share made us order more cheese at the end of the meal it was so good and the hand cut ham in the starter was next level. It's BYOB, there's a High Spirits shop just up the street and over with exceptional beer selection and decent wines too. Overall, the price, service and food were/are brilliant and we thank the waiter again for giving us attentive and polite service we really enjoyed. The chef here knows what they are doing. Go and visit!

We live locally & my wife chose The Black Hoof for a meal to celebrate my birthday. It is small - so book your table well in advance to secure your slot! Firstly worth noting that the owner / front of house is a really lovely chap from Tenerife who really knows his stuff about Spanish food. All of the tapas were superb. The octopus, squid & beef cheeks being particularly memorable. I have slight gluten intolerance and they worked (successfully) really hard to accommodate this. Short of flying to Spain, this is your best option for genuine authentic Spanish food (it is probably better than most restaurants in Spain!). We'll be back.

Visited this place for a dinner after seeing the reviews on here. From the booking of the table throughout the service was impeccable and nothing too much trouble, an absolute joy to deal with. Fortunately the service is somehow equalled by the quality of the food, it is sensational. Every dish is authentic and wonderfully presented with flavours to match. You can tell the ingredients are of the highest quality and it just makes you want more. Already booked to revisit and look forward to trying more dishes off the menu.

The Jamon Masterclass was a masterclass! Great interactive and knowledgable presentation of the meats followed by tasting and then tapas. Not sure what more could be done!

Tenía las mejores tapas españolas. Recetas originales. Debe probar tantos platos si es posible. Delicioso jamón sabroso, aceitunas manzanilla, pan de tomate, delicioso queso servido con membrillo y almendras, albóndigas, rabo de toro estofado. Croquetas de pulpo con pimentón y jamón. La tarta de queso caliente más hermosa y la tarta de almendras con un trago de whisky. No tienen una licencia de licor, por lo que deberá traer la suya. La encantadora propietaria brindó el mejor servicio al cliente. Compramos azafrán y un tarro de aceitunas para llevar a casa. También prueba la ensalada rusa. Pasamos una agradable velada.

Excellent little independent gem of a place with genuine customer service. I stopped in for a takeaway sandwich while working as a Deliveroo rider, but definitely seems worth a proper visit after lockdown is over.

Pre rugby lunch ( vs France). Found by pal who was looking for places en route to Murrayfield. Fabulous wee restaurant. Bring ur own booze. Wonderful choice of cured hams. Chorizo ++++. Ample menu of tapas, kids ( 11 and 14) loved it. Lovely sweets .... homemade al one cake, homemade cheesecake. It would be ideal for a long afternoon chatting, drinking and grazing the tapas menu.

Tuve una cita con mi pareja. Estuve en el Blackhoof el año pasado con mi madre y me sorprendió lo buena que es la comida. Así que seguí diciendo que prometo que iremos y no estaba decepcionado de que obtuviéramos el menú fijo y su BYOB, lo que ayuda, pero la comida es excelente, el servicio encantador, el dueño es un tipo tan amable y definitivamente las mejores tapas de Edimburgo HECHO.

We had the Tapas experience and Jamon Masterclass. Carlos was informative and interesting and we learned a lot. The range of tapas- both sweet and savoury - was delicious and mostly sourced from Spain. We look forward to returning.

Llegó una semana antes de pasar por la tienda para comprar algunos paquetes de jamón y otras carnes curadas para llevar a casa. Carlos fue genial llevándonos a través de las opciones y ofreciéndonos degustaciones. Pasé mucho más de lo que pretendía, pero la calidad es tan buena que realmente vale la pena. No he tenido carne curada de calidad en Escocia antes, sin duda volveremos a visitarla pronto.

It’s fantastic & Carlos Cerro the owner knows absolutely everything about Jamon & is so nice and so enthusiastic about the jamon and so he should be as it’s the most delicious jamon you will ever taste. A couple of days later we booked in for dinner with all the family.We had the tasting tapas menu and it was beyond delicious. We had two vegetarians in our party and Carlos adapted his tapas menu to include lots of delicious vegetarian tapas too. The food was truly magnificent. We are back in Edinburgh in December & have already booked up for the masterclass in Jamon and then for the tapas tasting menu. If you are in Edinburgh stop by The Black Hoofit’s superb. It also has lots of other fine Spanish products. It’s truly fabulous. Thank you Carlos for introducing the family to the best Jamon & tapas we have ever tasted.

We were met by the owner Carlos on arrival; one of the nicest, most welcoming hosts I've ever come across. We then experienced a short presentation about the origin and cuts of various types of jamones and cured meats followed by delicious tapas. I cannot praise the service or food enough. Carlos's passion for what he does and genuinely friendly manner are so impressive that you want to return as soon as you leave. Have sung his praises since our visit. This was a lunchtime visit. The staff comprised the husband and wife owners who welcomed us in, and were helpful and very friendly throughout. We ordered the fixed price menu, which was £14.50 each, and comprised starters of tomato bread, olives and cold meat, three tapas of the day, and a choice of delicious homemade desserts. They are completely flexible about the tapas. If there something you don’t want, then they offer a substitute, with no fuss. They sell wine, of course, but you can take your own for a very modest corkage charge of £1. This was a terrific experience. The food was full of flavour, texture and colour, and the service was top notch. We can’t wait to return. I’d highly recommend.

We have been coming and going to the Black Hoof for the last few months and can safely say it’s one of our favourite spots in the city! The interior is intimate and cozy, and Carlos is lovely and attentive. You can tell he is passionate about food and always keen to offer advice or explanations. Everything is freshly prepared and so so tasty. It’s easy to feel like you’re sitting in a bar in Spain instead of in the middle of Edinburgh ! Would definetly recommend to anyone wanting an authentic experience in the city.

My wife and I only popped in for coffee but were immediately impressed by the tapas menu, which we will definitely return to try.

This is a small café and Spanish delicatesen where you can buy wine, sherries, hams, olives etc. The lunchtime offer of starters, 3 tapas and desert is excellent value for money and you certainly need a good appetite for it all. The food is very much home-cooking rather than the kind of Spanish food you might get in some of the chains. The owner hails from Barcelona.

Had a superb selection of tapas. There were 4 of us at the table, we had 10 different tapas including the iberican ham and all were delicious. Carlos, the manager was great to talk to, told us it had been open around 10 months. Still waiting for an alcohol licence so we took our own wine. We will be back for sure.

A deli cum bistro which serves the best charcuterie this side of Corsica. The owner clearly knows and cares about what he sells and serves. The ham here is the equivalent of an aged single malt whisky. Laid back and pleasant atmosphere and the food was outstanding.

Small deli with 6-8 tables that serves some of the best Spanish hams in Edinburgh. Also a small but very good range of Barcelona style tapas and cheeses. The owners / staff are extremely friendly and helpful when making choices. It's a BYOB place and there are a least 3 off licences near by if you forget to bring a bottle or two.

Ok, simple terms, great host, basic restaurant but wow was it good, authentic byob, much cheapness but quality oozed out the kitchen, long may it remain and let’s hope it keeps producing the goods.

We went to The Black Hoof after a recommendation from a friend , we went for lunch and we're delighted we did the Jamon was outstanding perfectly preserved and presented there were 4 of us and two of us decided on the set menu of the day and the girls had two sharing platters one of meats and treats and a cheese platter the set menu started with olives ,tomato bread and sliced jamon shoulder then 3 tapas of the day a Spanish omelette, tuna pie with padron peppers, and the absolute star of the show oxtail cooked until perfect with potatoes & carrots there are other tapas on the menu if you want to add on but we had plenty the platters had jamon chorizo cheese olives and tomatoe bread the whole meal was a delight and if you like tapas and Mediterranean food this is the place for you . At the moment it is bring your own wine booze and the corkage is a very reasonable £1 Carlos the owner is waiting for a drinks licence but until that happens bring your own works well . If you want Jamon you can do mail order and the prices are very reasonable. We all enjoyed our time in the Black Hoof and we will be returning and would heartily recommend this little Jem !!

A little piece of Spanish cuisine heaven. Simple straight forward and easy to get to. Iberico ham is the the Rolls Royce of cured meats and this is Edinburgh’s showroom. Cosy friendly not too expensive what’s not to like.

Sorry no photos - too busy eating the delicious food. This was such a relaxed experience and the tapas was the best. Two types of Jamon, pork cheeks so tender that a knife wasn’t needed and baby squid stuffed with black pudding were highlights. There were no disappointments. Tomato bread lovely, olives spot on and boquerones sharp as expected. We ordered ham to go too and will definitely be back. Best tapas in Edinburgh. And great service too.

We had a selection of tapas for lunch, and they were all delicious. Portions are not huge for the price, but this is offset by the fact that you can take your own wine for a minimal charge.

It’s fantastic to see a small Spanish restaurant appear in Dalry. This area of the city has recently seen a huge growth in new interesting restaurants and I am sure the black hoof will be a successful addition to the local food scene.

Came across this Tapas & Deli serving authentic Spanish Tapas in Dalry, just up from Haymarket. Has great fresh carved Iberican Ham. Friendly owner knows his product. Great set mixed tapas menu. Spanish cheese with honey a revelation. BOB presently with minimum corkage. Great experience with family or friends. Will be back.

I pass The Black Hoof every day to and from work, but until my friend me about this new Spanish shop, I had no idea it was there! 4 of us headed along after work this winter to get a taste of authentic Spanish foods. It’s BYOB, so make sure to grab a bottle of Rioja on route!

I have been to this place three times already. I had a bocadillo of jamon the first time, £3.50 only and very nice quality; I went for some tapas the time after and tried the cheese platter with membrillo (jam), lomo, jamon and pan con tomate; everything was really tasty; went again with three of my friends and tried calamares, tortilla, bunuelos de bacalao, everything was delicious. It's BYOB and they charge £5 for every bottle of wine and £0,50 for each bottle of beer (at least until the last time I was there). Can't wait to be back to buy some ham for home.
