Great location by the river. Lovely atmosphere.

My first time coming and it was absolutely amazing.great food and really nice staff

A very limited food menu was the only let down here tonight. Plenty of outdoor tables spaced apart, and background music that's not overpowering. A good range of ales (not much for us lager drinkers).

Came by this pub on a Saturday afternoon stroll by the river. It’s an amazing really old building with an interesting and brilliantly maintained interior. Spent a sunny afternoon in the lovely beer garden which leads to the river. The menu was limited to the smoke house selection, changes daily - but it was delicious and great value. Dog friendly throughout and even has a doggy snack station. Well worth a visit…

Thoroughly enjoyed a Thai meal in the Black Bear garden today. The sun was most welcome. Recommend a pint of Butty Bach to wash it down.

We went for a Sunday roast meal on Easter Sunday and the food was amazing. It was served up hot with vegetables in a separate dish, presentation was superb as was the service. Thank you

Beautiful pub, well priced drinks. After cruising up the Severn we sat in their heated beer garden, watched the footie and had a couple drinks. Proper lush

If you were to draw up plans for the perfic pub, this is it, this place is amazing. Stunning building with so many interesting features to explore. Loads of seating and hidden areas. Open fires and a huge range of great beers, located on the waters edge with a sizable garden to enjoy in the summer.

Apparently Gloucester's oldest pub which you would think from the old beamed exterior.Inside quite a modern feel ,large open plan with BBQ style menu with outdoor patio overlooking the picturesque river Avon.Dog friendly as well with fine selection of ales including Theakstons old peculiar which blew my head off!

Great time at the bear yesterday. Log fires were burning, lovely atmosphere. Kids and dogs welcome and the food was amazing. Will definitely be back

The Black Bear is the best pub in Tewkesbury, the atmosphere inside is great. Warming log fires throughout winter and a riverside garden for the summer. They let dogs in, which is perfect after a nice walk. Decent beer and brilliant food. The food varies day by day, but I’ve never had a bad meal.

Lovely place, spacious and the interior has a lot of the local historic elements evident throughout Tewkesbury. It looks like they have a rotating offering of food throughout the week, and Smokey Grill was doing food when we were here and their stuff is delicious. Perfectly seasoned, and a decent sized portion. Also dog friendly inside and in the garden, with a little dog station inside with treats. It's our first time in Tewkesbury and I can see myself coming back here again.

Fantastic range of ales. Loads of space with lots of nooks and crannies to snuggle up in. Disappointed with the first couple of bar staff but the last lady was nice. The food offering is good I loved the loaded fries.

Amazing place, faultlessly restored. Warm atmosphere, very clean. As for the staff, I take my hat off to them, they are amazing. We went to the black bear for Tewkesbury Live, you couldn't put a pin between people, the bar was full, a good 6 or 7 people deep but was still served quickly. The toilets were so clean, even after all those punters. We now send all the tourists that we speak to down to the Bear. A real credit to the town and fantastic to have back

The oldest pub in Tewkesbury. A typical English pub, it is characterized by a specific look and construction from the Tudor era. The food is correct.

Love it here, especially in the winter when the log fires are lit.

Well they have certainly made a Fantastic job of the black bear. It feels it’s a lot different it has a lot more atmosphere and some really beautiful areas. During the summer, I can see this is going to get really really busy. Do not judge the smoky grill on the prices, you soon change your mind when you have something. We had the cheeseburger with fries and trust me it was beautiful so give it a try as this place will not disappoint .

Brilliant pub, but diabolical food. It was cold and disgusting. Shame, it really let's itself down. Considering there is such a limited menu, more effort could be made to make the dishes warmer and tastier.

Great pub. Atmosphere is great, drinks aren't badly priced and the food is always exceptional. Since reopening, the pub is always busy and there's always something going on in the pub which is amazing.

Great pub in a beautiful area this place has to be my favourite pub in Tewkesbury! The food here is of a very high standard and with the pub been refurbished to a really high standard is just a great place for a meal out or a few drinks. In the summer months you can utilise the beautiful beer garden backing onto the river avon!

Great vibrant place but don't think you can park illegally on the clearway and get away with it. You might be tempted to seeing the non local cars parked along there but you will get a ticket and 3 points on your licence. It's not worth the risk especially as it's the police who issue the tickets.

It certainly isn't as tiny as it looks on the outside, the Inside is lovely and the atmosphere was great! We tried the Thai food on a Friday evening and it was delicious. Would highly recommend.

First time visiting this lovely pub, would 100% recommend. It has a lovely oldie world character retaining lots of original medieval architecture with new parts to the rear to huge beer garden over looking the river Avon. Food was superb! 👌 Staff very friendly and polite! 😊

Overcharged and very disappointed lately, what has happened to me and my mates old pub? The only good thing is the river, I might as well dive in!! Where has old vibe gone???

we entered, was busy, guy at bar told my wife we can find our own table and that the people who do food are not linked to them, at the table no one showed up, nothing on menu regarding where to order, its too bad coz the menu looked allright....they have got to get their stuff in order for a customer walking in...

Lovely pub on the river. Brilliant beer gardens. Fabulous inside with old snugs and modern bar area. A must visit if anywhere near.

I can’t speak to the food, as we didn’t eat either of the times we were in, but the service and atmosphere here was exceptional for our visits. Stopped in with a group of friends for Quiz night, and we were terrible. Came in close to the bottom of the barrel, but one of our group had his ticket number called and threw 6 darts trying to top 100 points. When he hit 101, the room erupted, and the kind folks running the Quiz night informed my mate that since no one had won the darts challenge recently, he’d just won £700! I recognise not everyone is guaranteed such an experience at the Bear, but the indoor and outdoor spaces are lovely, the staff are attentive and polite and a very good time is on offer.

We were there during a weekend music festival at the end of July. The band was on in the beautiful out door area and the atmosphere was fab. It is am ancient pub successfully merging the old with the new, and the cider was ace!

Visiting Tewkesbury and stopped by for some lunch. Weather was dry and sat outside, Lots of seating, Staff friendly, Cheese burger for lunch, Dog friendly.

An amazing establishment with a fantastic range of different beers. Luke the landlord served us and was brilliant and knowledgeable about his beers and let us try a couple first! It's not very often that you find happy landlords lol . . I wanted to give him a shout-out and was surprised when he said he was the owner as he looks too young and happy! 😁 This fabulous place is more than just a pub/restaurant, it's an experience that everyone needs to enjoy! With such amazing staff, they deserve all the luck in the world! We only popped in for a quick one recently and will definitely revisit this beautiful place next time we're in Tewkesbury! 😃 Nigel&Claire 😊

This pub claims to be the oldest one in Tewkesbury. Interesting combination of old building with modern expansion towards the river. Fantastic beer garden at river bank where you can spend hours when weather is nice.

The pub itself is beautiful and it sits on the river bank and high street. The downside to our even was the food. It tasted nice but was expensive for the portions and overall quality. Shame as the other reviews had lovely looking food in the pictures.

I used to go to the Black Bear very often when younger, always had a great atmosphere, this was something I was a little worried might have been lost with the recent refurbishment, however, worries are now put aside, great atmosphere, food and drink. Will be visiting more often from now on, not as often as younger me but more often none the less.

I have had to give 1 star to give a review, I would not give this place any stars whatsoever. It might help to train the barstaff to serve people who are waiting at the bar in order, and not serve the slim 20 year old who has just wandered up to the bar first, instead of the overweight 60 year old who has been waiting for what seems like forever, if you are a good barmaid you can spot who needs serving next. The quiz was a joke, couldnt hear or understand the questions

This is a fantastic pub, a huge beer garden, lovely big seating areas inside, so light and airy. From the outside I expected old and gloomy - definitely an unexpected treat inside. It was Thai night, the food was outstanding. Lovely clean loos, dog friendly, Guinness on tap - and a homemade gin punch. Very happy to recommend 😁

We had a day trip from Weston super Mare to Tewkesbury emporium, I’m after a little bit of ret therapy we found the black bear pub, he had grave reviews and we can see why! They had a great screen to watch the euro cup outside and the food look amazing, we had a couple of drinks 🍷 🍻🍸 to read the 13 century history behind the pub and it is haunted! We are definitely coming back for a full meal next time 😎🤩
