We had a great Senegalese lunch....everybody really friendly

Overcharged and very disappointed lately, what has happened to me and my mates old pub? The only good thing is the river, I might as well dive in!! Where has old vibe gone???

we entered, was busy, guy at bar told my wife we can find our own table and that the people who do food are not linked to them, at the table no one showed up, nothing on menu regarding where to order, its too bad coz the menu looked allright....they have got to get their stuff in order for a customer walking in...

Lovely pub on the river. Brilliant beer gardens. Fabulous inside with old snugs and modern bar area. A must visit if anywhere near.

I can’t speak to the food, as we didn’t eat either of the times we were in, but the service and atmosphere here was exceptional for our visits. Stopped in with a group of friends for Quiz night, and we were terrible. Came in close to the bottom of the barrel, but one of our group had his ticket number called and threw 6 darts trying to top 100 points. When he hit 101, the room erupted, and the kind folks running the Quiz night informed my mate that since no one had won the darts challenge recently, he’d just won £700! I recognise not everyone is guaranteed such an experience at the Bear, but the indoor and outdoor spaces are lovely, the staff are attentive and polite and a very good time is on offer.

Love the different food available throughout the week. Always friendly bar staff. Lovely and clean pub with a gorgeous outside area.

We were there during a weekend music festival at the end of July. The band was on in the beautiful out door area and the atmosphere was fab. It is am ancient pub successfully merging the old with the new, and the cider was ace!

Visiting Tewkesbury and stopped by for some lunch. Weather was dry and sat outside, Lots of seating, Staff friendly, Cheese burger for lunch, Dog friendly.

An amazing establishment with a fantastic range of different beers. Luke the landlord served us and was brilliant and knowledgeable about his beers and let us try a couple first! It's not very often that you find happy landlords lol . . I wanted to give him a shout-out and was surprised when he said he was the owner as he looks too young and happy! 😁 This fabulous place is more than just a pub/restaurant, it's an experience that everyone needs to enjoy! With such amazing staff, they deserve all the luck in the world! We only popped in for a quick one recently and will definitely revisit this beautiful place next time we're in Tewkesbury! 😃 Nigel&Claire 😊

This pub claims to be the oldest one in Tewkesbury. Interesting combination of old building with modern expansion towards the river. Fantastic beer garden at river bank where you can spend hours when weather is nice.

The pub itself is beautiful and it sits on the river bank and high street. The downside to our even was the food. It tasted nice but was expensive for the portions and overall quality. Shame as the other reviews had lovely looking food in the pictures.

I used to go to the Black Bear very often when younger, always had a great atmosphere, this was something I was a little worried might have been lost with the recent refurbishment, however, worries are now put aside, great atmosphere, food and drink. Will be visiting more often from now on, not as often as younger me but more often none the less.

A great place with helpful staff. Superbly restored into an excellent venue for live music.

I have had to give 1 star to give a review, I would not give this place any stars whatsoever. It might help to train the barstaff to serve people who are waiting at the bar in order, and not serve the slim 20 year old who has just wandered up to the bar first, instead of the overweight 60 year old who has been waiting for what seems like forever, if you are a good barmaid you can spot who needs serving next. The quiz was a joke, couldnt hear or understand the questions

This is a fantastic pub, a huge beer garden, lovely big seating areas inside, so light and airy. From the outside I expected old and gloomy - definitely an unexpected treat inside. It was Thai night, the food was outstanding. Lovely clean loos, dog friendly, Guinness on tap - and a homemade gin punch. Very happy to recommend 😁

The staff are incredibly friendly and efficient. The Night Jar stout with a shot of Tia Maria is inspired.

popped in for a drink before the theatre. Lovely welcoming staff, great atmosphere. Very impressed with the clean toilets. Will be returning again soon, to try the food, it looked good 😊

We had a day trip from Weston super Mare to Tewkesbury emporium, I’m after a little bit of ret therapy we found the black bear pub, he had grave reviews and we can see why! They had a great screen to watch the euro cup outside and the food look amazing, we had a couple of drinks 🍷 🍻🍸 to read the 13 century history behind the pub and it is haunted! We are definitely coming back for a full meal next time 😎🤩

We just stopped in for drinks close to closing time. Really friendly staff and security. Brilliant pub can't wait to go back.

Really tasty home cooked Thai food. Beautifully restored building although the acoustics makes it a bit difficult to hear each other

Popped in for a bite to eat on our way to Herefordshire. We all (2 Adults and 2 Children) enjoyed our food which included pulled chicken, Harrisa glazed Halloumi and Nachos. All really good and fresh..it looked as if there were regular pop up style restaurants on different days of the week..it has a good vibe and the outside area looked really welcoming..if we're ever in the area again, we will definitely make the effort to go here again..

Very disappointed. We had checked on the website for the menu. Got there, ordered drinks and then went in to order burgers, only to be told that it was Thai food today! Not what we wanted so we left, walked up the road and had the most delicious fish and chips!! We won't be going back to the pub.

Staff and bar were great as always. Waited nearly an hour for “Thai” food that consisted of fish & chips and chicken & salad, when I asked how much longer it would be I was told 10 minutes, 20 minutes later they hadn’t even started cooking it yet, I appreciate places get busy but it wasn’t a particularly busy Wednesday night and a heads up regarding the wait would have been appreciated.

Nice facilities, nice garden next to the river. The hot chocolate, temperature wise, did not live up to expectations!

Excellent renovation, bright open plan with a lovely beer garden overlooking the river.

The food was absolutely beautiful. Had the belly pork from the grill. Probably the best I've had in any pub/restaurant. The owners must be congratulated on the work they and their staff have put in. Perfect by the riiverside.

Thai Thursday was delicious food! Great place and it has been refurbished to a very high standard!

The Pub has recently been refurbished, and it looks great. There are lots of open fires to keep you warm, and the beer is good, too!

Great atmosphere & service, and new lawns looking good. Food from Smoky Grill was fab, plenty of beef and so tender. I’d prefer the flatbread on the side next time cos the slaw juice made it soggy. Nice clean toilets although the pub was so busy on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday late lunchtime wuirt drink with friends. first impression was airy bright pub but was soon spoilt with arrival of large family party. Unfortunately with little soft furnishings the pub became very noisy and lost its appeaL

Lovely looking place only had a basic meal and it wasn't table service. Don't be fooled by the outside, it's well worth a visit, I'd imagine it to be very busy when we eventually get the better weather !!

First time in for probably 12 years, and wow, what a job has been done on decor, nice selection of cask ales as well!

Fabulous ! Spent huge amounts of money on a very tasteful renovation, but have kept all the beautiful old features. Probably the best pub in Gloucestershire ! Added bonus, they sell Guinness Zero !

What a great place. Nice and spacious, great for families. Used this pub many times down the years but they have done it up really well and it caters for everyone without losing any of its previous character. Great choice of drinks and live music on offer. Love it!

Smoky bar by Marius is a fooodgasm! Fabiulous!! We’ve stopped here spontagneously and will definitely come back. Beautiful pub with history too!

Must visit place. Had loads of option for playing board games, having a relaxed evening and being served by very friendly staff.

Sunday night, terrific menu. Food was superb, compliments to the chef for seriously good food, unflustered on a busy evening! Brilliant drinks on offer. Excellent venue in and out!

The black bear is a one of the great pubs of Tewkesbury, the traditional architecture with a modern twist on the interior really brings a unique environment to the town, I can't say i've been to anything like it before. The building itself holds a mass amount of history which is expressed throughout the interior so is never forgotten. The pub also brings culture through the various events it hosts throughout the week, including the infamous Tuesday pub quiz hosted every week, and presented really well, it's great fun! The staff work very hard to create a friendly experience too, i've been enough times where people start to know me as the guy who orders drinks without ice, this feels honourable. The renovation of the black bear has been a great success, bringing a historical landmark back to life, bringing new audiences to Tewkesbury town, and I hope it continues to bring culture to the town for years to come.

Having gone past the Black Bear for the best part of ten years and not having had the chance to visit, I was extremely keen to see what the new owners have done to the place. It is a fantastic renovation of a historic building, which makes many nods to its past, whilst embracing the present. An excellent layout and selection of drinks, whilst being both family and dog friendly make this a winner in my books. I look forward to many more visits!

Only had the chips so can't really comment on the food, but what a great pub , good selection of beers ,the house rum was great ,had a few at lunchtime the pub was busy but getting served was easy, cracking atmosphere,

Well they have certainly made a Fantastic job of the black bear. It feels it’s a lot different it has a lot more atmosphere and some really beautiful areas. During the summer, I can see this is going to get really really busy. Do not judge the smoky grill on the prices, you soon change your mind when you have something. We had the cheeseburger with fries and trust me it was beautiful so give it a try as this place will not disappoint .

Used to go to this pub, when it was the original Black Bear .They have done a wonderful job of bringing it back to life.

It was like stepping back in time in this fabulously newly renovated pub. The oldest In Gloucestershire. Large open bar area, off this smaller quirky drinking rooms. They had also had a part glass floor with old stairs going to an underground corridor! Spooky!! Dating back from 1308, and originally thought to be a toll house. They host many events, including live music, and have a riverside drinking area with a pop up eatery & wooden bar! I will definitely return.

Lovely pub, lovely relaxed atmosphere and the landlord was really attentive. Myself and my brother's really enjoyed our visit. We will definitely be back!! The Bear is my one brother's favourite pub 😁

Honestly one of the best pubs in Tewkesbury, the owner should be very proud of the refurbishment and the atmosphere and general friendliness of the staff.
