My wife and I visited Dunkeld and Birnam after attending a wedding in the area and, after hearing about a bookshop in Birnam, wanted to make sure we visited before heading home. What a fantastic bookshop! We spent ages browing through the superb collection of books - both of us taken with the large range of art and photography books. Even though they were all second hand, the condition was immaculate. The prices for books that essentially looked new was another bonus, being far less than I initially thought. Needless to say we both left very happy with a stack of books between us. Icing on the cake was a coffee to take away (talking of cake, there was cake as well, but sadly after filling ourselves up with our hotel breakfast we couldn't bring ourselves to try any). Service was faultless as well and very pleasant. Will definitely be back next time we're in the area.

This is a wonderful second hand bookshop with a delightful coffee and cake counter. Numerous books on all subjects and a plethora of CDs. Friendly owner and whenever we visit the area which is often we always drop in for an hour or so browsing through the books and CDs and often have coffee and cake there. It’s well worth doing if that’s your thing.

I came here as was enroute to a holiday over in the Outer Hebrides, it was disappointing not to see any Scottish travel/walking books, and hardly any history...?! Or Scottish poetry, I came away with a book on the Clans. There was alot of art, philosophical, political and thelogical books. A very laid back bookshop, you can sit outside with a coffee. Not knocking what stock was there, all good books. Worth a visit, even if it is for a coffee!

Friendly atmosphere with so many cakes. Oh, and oodles of books for all tastes! And for some reason I really want to bring my guitar to just quietly doodle along in the window while I watch the world go by. See you again soon!

After a stroll around Dunkeld walked along the riverside past The Birnam Oak famous from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, walk up behind the Birnam Hotel, cross the road to Beatrix Potter gardens and exhibition in Birnam Arts Centre, carry on up the hill and find this great little Bookshop, good selection of secondhand and couple of new local books for all tastes,At good prices. Don’t leave without trying lovely selection of cakes served with various teas or very good coffee, today I had a lovely carrot cake and my husband had strawberry and vanilla scone, both delicious. A very civilised way to finish off a nice summer morning walk.

When chatting to a local couple in Dunkeld tea subject of coffee came up and this place was regarded as the best in the area. So we had to try it and they were spot on. Coffee served in Bodum glasses and a latte served in the right size cup - things were looking good Coffee was great and the cakes superb. Go the whole and get a coffee cake and a book for a Fiver. Well worth the slight detour from Dunkeld.

I’m so glad I planned my day around a visit here. Great drinks, cakes, and a good selection of used books, it’s a few new ones, too. 5GBP gets you a drink, cake, and a book to relax with. Philosophy section is particularly robust, but there’s likely to be something for everyone, at affordable prices. Only minus is that it’s not open every day. Plan ahead, folks!

On a day trip to Birnam, we left the Birnam Arts Centre and noticed the bookshop. We ventured in to a gorgeous smell of coffee, surroubded by books!!! What a wee find, and add a discussion about Rock Metal, had me wishing we had found it sooner. Next trip, a definite must!!

A wonderful place. Brilliant homemade cake (the courgette and berry sounded a little different but was delicious!), great coffee and friendly service. I love that they have a special offer of coffee + cake + a book for £5. It's a small, cosy place - there are only a few tables - but it has a great selection of books. Well worth a visit.

This is a little bookshop like no other we have ever visited. Bright and modern, with a super selection of high quality second handbooks in all categories. Well, when you combine this with being able to have cake/coffes/teas while you browse, it becomes an even more agreeable experience. The cakes are yummy and the prices for cake/hot drink are amazingly cheap, especially when combined with their "book bundle" which gets you a cake, hot drink and a book of your choice from two of the bookcases for £5 ! What a little belter. We will certainly return and urge all visitors to Birnam to do the same. It also happens to be located in a very pretty part of Perthshire. What more could anyone want !

What a find! Superb coffee, delicious cakes, and a huge selection of reasonably priced books. A perfect place to while away a few hours: sipping coffee, sampling the yummy cake, and browsing through books. The £5 coffee, cake, and a book deal is a brilliant idea. The understated, minimalist interior has a calm, relaxing vibe and Fraser is a great host. Highly recommended.

Visited the Birnam Reader at last. What a great idea, excellent coffee, tea and wonderful cakes, recommend the Tunisian orange cake and the carrot cake and the scones sounded good what an excuse to come back. On top of all that a great selection of books for all tastes, and all ages, also a decent range of CDs. which you can browse and go back for a second look whilst enjoying your coffee and cake.

I love coffee and a slice of cake - here I found the best! G&T; cake? Orange and choc? fabulous! Small area lined with books to browse and buy, quirky seating wherever it can be squeezed in to spaces.Definitely to be recommended. Can be easy to miss as it is up the hill (on the left) from the more obvious Birnam Arts building - it's worth walking the hundred yards to find it on the corner.

The Birnam Reader is just opposite the Birnam Arts Centre and is an excellent stopover point for any visit to Dunkeld and Birnam. It has an excellent range of high quality books at low prices (they have a range of shelves with books for £2 each as well as a regular general stock with an emphasis on modernliterature, philosophy, psychology etc.

This friendly second hand bookshop has the best (home made) cake and the best coffee I have ever had. Ever. A week after eating there, I can still taste the Tunisian Orange cake - a big slice of delicately flavoured, moist cake. There were about six different cakes - they make different ones every day. They have a deal where you get coffee, a cake, and a paperback for £5. Brillliant value for money. Not your usual selection of books either. We were on holiday. I am at home now, seriously considering driving 2 hours, to go back for more cake.

Cant think of another word to say accept "FANTASTIC" what more do you want great cake - I don't know how they make them but they are delicious. The Earl Grey tea was perfect and piping hot. We took family who were on holiday in Perth with us and they enjoyed it so much that they went back again. I would recommend this Café to everyone the guys who run it are so cheery and welcoming.

Has the essentials, and some scottish foodstuffs too. Saw some local cheeses, but was gone by the time I realised i should have bought it. You can buy pasties and drinks & sit outside on some tables. Friendly staff

Years ago, I received a free lunch at this place. The man serving me could tell from my expression and mood that I had been having a very difficult day. I never got the chance to say thank you, but I still remember it well. Good deeds do not go unnoticed.
