This is an exceptionally good cafe, and we have eaten here many times. What makes it outstanding is that all the food is made and baked inhouse, and you can tell. All made with very good ingredients, resulting in delicious dishes. Today we both had the set lunch and my fish cakes were the best I have tasted, as were the accompaniments. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and nothing is too much trouble. This is not a cheap place to eat, but the price reflects the quality of the ingredients and the care taken to prepare them.

We had an eclectic (and probably over indulgent) choice of dishes, but when food is this good…. Scrumptious mushroom soup, Omelette with Corra Lynn cheese; excellent fish cakes and a cheese board to die for- the Lanark Blue paired with Gingerbread and Poached pear was particularly good as was the Elrick Log goat’s cheese and the marmalade pairing- my husband’s particular favourite, and he’s not a lover of goat’s cheese as a rule. Cake’s are great quality too. Looking forward to our next visit(s) 😍

Great food, the cheeseboard and meats is delicious! The service was first class and the knowledge of the products and recommendations was great. Nice atmosphere, casual. Good selection on the menu for lunch and all local seasonal produce. Nice take away options of meats, cheeses, cakes, tea and coffee as well as pastas, Jam and European foods too. Very nice staff. Highly recommend.

We stopped at this wee gem of a place on our way on the A702 to Edinburgh. We had such a lovely meal we left with the farm’s-own cheese and bacon from the shop. I have some difficult dietary issues that they handled well. Errington’s Barn is a great place to stop for lunch as you are passing or to go to as a destination. We did not have time to explore the farm outside the cafe this trip, but would like to do so some other time.

We were en-route to Edinburgh via the A702 on Sunday 26th January. We had thought we would call off for lunch at Erringtons, as we had enjoyed the food at The Big Red Barn, a handful of times. We pulled over just after Abington Services approx 1300 hrs to check on Google Maps to confirm they were open and they were closed and would be open Monday (as per the attached image). In view of this, we stopped in Biggar and had a meal at another cafe that we had frequented many times. When we passed Erringtons, we noticed there was several cars in the car park. My wife then phoned and a young man confirmed they were open until 4pm. Message to the owner suggesting the opening days and hours shown on Google should be checked, as you are losing much needed revenue.

Unquestionably, the best coffee shop in the area! Dog friendly and free wifi.I’m so thankful that finally,I was able to find this spot for some good coffee. Can park for free ,grab a coffee and take the dog for a walk on the trails outside. Popped back in,had the breakfast, which is mostly made from Erringtons own farm local produce and just relaxed. Also own farm cheesees for sale in shop, even flour, pasta etc, and doggy treats too.The atmosphere inside this coffee shop is calming and chilled. I will definitely rate them a five-star for everything that they provided. Around 11,ish there is a change over too lunch menu,so if you require breakfast menu, come no later than 10 ish,so your not disappointed.Truly amazing and will be back again and again.

the experience didn’t live up to the price tag of £22.00 for a latte, a tea and two cheese scones. While the coffee and scones were passable, they were nothing exceptional—certainly not worth the premium cost. Service was adequate but unremarkable, and the overall value left much to be desired. I won’t be planning a return visit.

Corrington Linn cheese is delicious. It's reminiscent of a Wensleydale being crumbly, tangy, creamy and salty. A gorgeous mix of ewe and goat milk, with no goaty taste at all. Yummy!

The food was nice but there was not enough of it for the price we paid. We spent over £50 for a family of 5 - we got 2 big meals, 2 soups (with half a roll each) and a kids meal and 1 drink. We had a go for a supermarket meal deal a few hours later.

My husband and I were on our way from Glasgow to Peebles and stopped at this cafe which was previously The Red Barn.We realised this was now a cheese shop and cafe. We looked at the menu and decided to share a cheese platter which was £16.We were extremely disappointed when this arrived as hardly enough for one person never mind two and far too expensive for what was provided. There were 3 small pieces of cheese all which tasted nice,a cooked plum,a spoonful of honey,2 small toasts,2 oatcakes and 1 flatbread. We also had coffee which was very nice.Total bill £22.Now I know that good homemade cheese is s expensive but we felt quite ripped off. We had asked the waitress what was on offer and she referred us to the menu but she did not tell us there was a board on the wall advising you could have breakfast rolls and filled rolls which were under £5 each.I only noticed this when I went up to pay the bill.We would have preferred this to a cheese board as basically we thought you could only get what was on the very different menu. We would come back if in the area as we liked the staff and the ambiance but would prefer rolls. There is plenty of parking and indoor and outside seating. There are also walks close by.

The food and drinks are fantastic and that's what keeps us coming back. The last 3 or 4 visits the service while friendly felt disorganised and lacking in management. Long waits for taking orders, missing or forgotten items. The till area is a real choke point with folk waiting for a table while others queue to pal all mixed with people browsing the cheese counter. We love the place but now pass by if the car park looks busy

Took the family for lunch recently. Really enjoyed the tagliatelle, with home made by Errington Cheese, crowdie, and beautiful squash plus hazelnuts, which combined for a delicious experience. My difficult to please son had the Italian sausage rarebit, which came on a brioche base. Again, unexpected combination of flavours was delicious. Sadly, we were driving so no wine for us, but a good selection on offer. Also interesting was the cheese pairing menu which included suggestions for a small piece of cheese (nearly all Errington) and interesting, high quality accompaniments. Gingerbread, honeycomb and fig jam being some. Although it was a busy afternoon and the restaurant was full, tge service was very smooth and efficient with friendly knowledgeable staff. All in all, a great experience.

Errington's Barn is so disappointing after always enjoying our visits when it was The Red Barn! I would also like to warn anyone looking at the website that the photos of the cafe are of when it was under the old management, it no longer has the nice atmosphere that it had then. We stopped for breakfast recently, the staff weren't very welcoming, the 'extra hot' coffee we ordered was luke warm, they got the order wrong and the bacon was hard. Won't be back ☹

Oh dear. Severely disappointed in the drop in standard. I ordered the special (roasted veg, pesto and Brie toasted sandwich). I quickly realised that the Brie toasted sandwich was missing something…only the Brie! The result was that I sat and watched my family eat their lunch before my replacement sandwich arrived, then they watched me eat my lunch. Trying to be forgiving but, come on, how difficult is it to make a toastie and remember the cheese? The rest of the food was okay. Not brilliant, but okay. Paying for the toastie was a bit hard to swallow. Sorry - we won’t be back. Bye bye, Big Red Barn. It was nice while it lasted.

What a disaster. I had been before the business had being taken over and gave it 5 stars. However on this occasion we sat for at least 15 minutes and were completely ignored by all the staff. 2 groups of customers came in after us and were served drinks and main meals while we hadn’t even been asked what we would like to drink. They were half way through their toasties when I decided I’d had enough and I obviously wasn’t important enough to get service. When I told the 4 people behind the till that I was leaving and was really annoyed, they all just looked at me and the main lady (who I assume was in charge) just said ohh, no apology, nothing! I’m assuming that the management is lacking as it looked very disorganised.I drove almost 40 minutes to this restaurant thinking I would treat my partner to a lovely Sunday lunch. I won’t bother ever again! It worked out for me as I discovered a hotel in Biggar which was really nice with much better atmosphere than this over rated tourist trap!

Food has gone down in quality. I recently ordered a pumpkin pie expecting some sort of crusty, cheesy, satisfying bake with a pumpkin filling. I was presented with a bland faux cottage pie where squash took the place of potato and mushrooms replaced the meat. When I queried the lack of crust, or anything flavoursome really, I was told that I had chosen a vegetarian option which was also vegan. I didn't appreciate this conflation of the two.

Smaller than it looks from the outside but I gather during the summer they have use of extra outside space and an outside sales point. Beautiful food and wonderful service. Not cheap but very good value and very tasty. Busy with what I took to be regular customers, always a good sign I think. Plenty of parking and access to adjacent woodland walks. A small selection of gifts and local foodstuffs. Ladies and Gents toilets, very clean and we'll presented. I had the macaroni cheese, which was one of the nicest I've had in years, and an oat and date slice. The slice was a bit too sweet for me (I'll try something else next time). The Foods are locally sourced and includes great cakes and scones, a range of savoury dishes which are good and a choice of teas and coffees. The Goods include books and all manner of interesting items which are not run of the mill. After eating you can work it off by going on a walk to the Woods behind the car park. Please note that the photographs in this review show the old menu. Unfortunately, since The Junkyard has changed ownership, it has lost much of the charm and character that once made it a standout. The place isn’t just lacking in quality anymore. It’s the entire vibe, identity, and atmosphere that have taken a dive. Under the previous ownership, The Junkyard felt like a true gem. The owner’s genuine passion for craft beer and the unique menu helped create a space with a real sense of identity. One of the key aspects of that identity was the varied Crackbird chicken range, which has now been reduced to a single item on the menu. The new menu feels like a shadow of what it once was, confused and directionless, unsure whether it wants to be an Asian restaurant or a Western pub. To make matters worse, their website still shows the old menu, and there has been no update or acknowledgment of the changes. I can’t find any mention anywhere of The Junkyard having changed ownership, nor have I seen any indication that they intend to turn it into an Asian restaurant. This lack of transparency and communication from the new owners leads me to believe they are not interested in keeping customers informed or maintaining the vibe that made The Junkyard special. What made The Junkyard special, the character, the vibe, the overall experience, has been lost. Unfortunately, what The Junkyard once represented no longer exists.
