The Big Fish in Flintshire

Had small fish and scallops.. lovely lightly battered scallops.. can of dandelion and burdock.

I was recently told that GF was only available on a Thursday but there was a plan to stop this. I believe this has now changed and the decision has now been made to offer GF Daily. I ordered GF for the first, but definitely not the last time for both me and my wife. We usually have to travel to either Chester or LLandudno for GF Fish and Chips. Portion size was excellent and the GF batter very crispy, one of the best I've had to be fair. My wife commenting after she'd eaten hers "That fish was beautiful" Can't thank you enough for making GF available so close to home. I'm told this Fish and Chip shop had recently catered for GF on a Thursday but planned to stop doing so. After much representation that decision was reversed and now Gf is available daily. I can't thank you enough for this, i usually have to travel to Chester or Llandudno but this is now right on my door step. The fish was one of the best i have ever had and the portion size brilliant. What a lovely tray of fish and chips. Generously heaped up and neatly wrapped. All the serving staff are smiley and helpful.

Am afraid to say your food is getting worse. Curry sauce was like water disgusting chips were terrible they were recooked & Sausage was not cooked .We have always come to big Fish not anymore . Very bad indeed

Was brilliant when the new owners took over at the start But has gone down hill since. A large fish was more the size of a goldfish, the batter was undercooked and verry thick and goopy. The large chips was more like a small size they were wrapped verry tightly, and looked like mash. The staff are friendly enough I can’t fault that, and the place looks clean but that’s about it. The one in buckley which had the same owners is much better.

It’s lovely the staff are always so nice and welcoming. The food is so nice. At reasonable price. X

Had fish and chips there this week. Was very very good. Perfect fish with thin crisp batter. Good colour fresh tasting fish with perfect firmness and texture. The lady behind the counter was particularly pleasant and respectful to my daughter.

It was a brilliant product which I purchased from the big fish, incredibly delicious and enjoyable. I have enjoyed going their countless times either on my own or with friends, and they always have a smile on their faces and serve brilliant food.

Staying at the Jacobean manor for big celebration! We needed chips to accompany food we already had Called in The Big Fish.. lovely staff fun chatting with the guy serving our food We ordered 12 boxes & 4 curry sauces all served up in 3 mins from receipt on till.. must say the best chips we have tasted like being at the seaside as a kid.. Thanks big fish you made our night

Best chippy that I know around Mold. Always busy, quick service.

Overpriced for what I received, there must be a potato shortage,as the chips would not have satisfied a child, never mind an adult. I did mention it to a member of staff and they said that's all they were allowed to serve and agreed it wasn't right.

Best fish and chips we've had in the area. Fresh and not overly priced. The sweet curry sauce is delicious!

Should of taken photos, but definitely not the nicest fish and chips we have had. The fish is not cooked fresh, the batter was really crispy and dried out. The chips weren’t great either definitely not freshly cooked very greasy. My daughter’s chicken burger was the only item that was cooked to order. Really disappointed

Some places are just the "standard" in their town and The Big Fish has been and will be for the foreseeable future.

Really lovely. The fish tasted so fresh! The peas and curry were both delicious. Sorry I never tried the gravy, judging from the other reviews.

We did Gluten Free Thursday. My God: the batter!! It is superb!! Portion size excellent. Dad and I were in heaven. OH had 'normal' fish and chips, and saysage ...with the gravy he forgot he could get in Wales. He too was impressed. Staff were friendly. The signs clearly alert coeliacs to the fact wheat is on the premises. And we were told what items were GF and which were not We will be back.

Just read that another person had problems with the fish batter. On two previous occasions the batter was too thick and not cooked on the inside. This time I pointed out my previous problems to the young man doing the cooking. He offered to take a previously cooked fish and put it back in the oil, which he did. Arrived home and looked forward to tucking into my meal. This time the batter was hard and clearly over cooked. The cod had largely disappeared. Not a good experience. On my way to Mold I had decided to go to another Fish & Chip shop. Sadly he was closed, but I will find out when he is open.

Perfect portion sizes and well cooked food. Service is super fast and well organised, even when it's busy at 5.30pm!

Rip off. Cold pie that I wouldn't give my dog. About 15 pukewarm chips. Half a pot of cold curry sauce with a hair. Overpriced rubbish. If your charging top top prices the food should be at least half descent.

I was so pleased to hear about Gluten-Free Thursdays but sorry that the times clash with the lad's karate class in Chester. So I took advantage this evening as he wasn't well enough to go and put an order in for gf fish and chips for all of us. It is difficult eating out when you're a Coeliac and you're often left disappointed with the lack of knowledge and ignorance of some food establishments but, let me tell you, these guys are on it and they also invite you to read a disclaimer, clearly displayed, about [possible] cross-contamination. I've been a Coeliac for 50 years now so I'm used to disappointment but these guys and their fish and chips, and the curry and the peas, certainly did not disappoint. I will be back at some point soon for sure. Thanks guys! 😊

Had an order of four fish and chips tonight and three lots mushy peas - I wish we hadn’t. I have never ever had such awful batter, it was thicker than the fish and felt like a layer of thick gunk. The fish itself was fine but the batter totally spoilt it. Whilst we like a good portion of chips we’d rather have a bit less and therefore not all stuck together and soggy. The mushy peas were more like mushy pea soup. I cannot judge the service or atmosphere as someone else picked the order up but I would not chance ordering from this place again, food is too important to ruin like this and money for it doesn’t grow on trees. We’re here on holiday and won’t be back again anyway but if anyone asks where to go for a reliable decent fish and chips in the area I would not recommend using this establishment. Fish and chips does not mean batter with some fish and chips.

Felt compelled to leave a 5* review after the incredible staff fulfilled a huge order. So polite and hard working and the fish and chips were 10/10 too.

Amazing gluten free fish n chips. Lovely staff. Definitely will make it a regular Thursday thing. The new owners are working really hard. The place is spotlessly clean as well. The normal fish ain’t bad either.

Im gluten free, and have been for over 15 years. So I have struggled to get a fish and chip take out thats gluten free. After hearing about big fish doing a gluten free night I took the opportunity to give it ago. It tasted so good. The batter was really crispy, and portion sizes were very good too. They were really accommodating and made sure to re ask/tell the order again to make sure they'd got it right. They are really knowledgable gluten free and made sure to let me know of any risks etc..... I will definitely be making a trip back there.

The best gluten free fish and chips I have had. So crispy. They also do GF curry sauce. Reasonably priced and so yummy. They only do gluten free on Thursdays but so happy that they have started doing it.

Absolutely amazing staff it's become my regular and only chippy I use now and I'm so proud of all the staff to see how you dealt with it when it was busy and there was not one thing went wrong got a perfect system between them and get you sorted as quickly as possible 1000/1000 staff are brilliant I'm so proud of them all food was spot on and amazing and on point xx

Came here on the way home after a late night in work, nearly time for the staff to close the shop but I still received a lovely welcome. Ordered a fish & chips, fish was cooked fresh in a short wait and was piping hot. Really lovely meal, couldn’t fault it. The best in the area. Thank you x

Always been a fan of the big fish, but today was so disappointing. The chips were hard, batter cooked too much - sorry! I also bought a sausage for the dog and this was cooked too much, not sure if under new management as I don't get take out very often and felt like I wasted my money as threw half of it away 😔

I remember, me and my friend being about 15 and we would often go into big fish just for a sausage to eat whilst walking round town. They are still the best place to get proper chippy chips. We are a family of 7 and we are always happy with our order. My husband really likes the pies 🥧 😋 Always smells lovely when walking past and is busy with customers 🙂

Fantastic chippy. My kids always pick big fish for their birthday tea every year. They also take phone orders which is great when you want to quickly collect.

Worst chips ever. Tasted awful. Thankfully I only got sml overpriced chips at £2.20 . The Sea Gulls ate them.

Charged £9 for small chips, peas, gravy, and steak pudding. I didn't realize until I checked my bank statement, as I was quoted £7.70 at the time. I messaged them on Facebook and received a condescending and dismissive response, telling me I must have gone to a different chippy. Check your receipt if you go to this place as they are dishonest.

We’ve just finished our fish and chip suppers from the Big Fish Mold after we were let down by a particular new burger restaurant in town and couldn’t get a walk in table anywhere else on a Saturday night at 8.20pm. The two lads; Gareth and Zach, explained initially that the fryers had already been turned off as they were in the process of shutting up shop for the evening. After I briefly explained our predicament, they told us to sit down and chill out while they *turned everything back on* in order to cook us an emergency dinner! It was fresh, delicious, nicely prepared and really, really appreciated. Thank you to the big fish and to your friendly and dedicated team. Cheers!

Just had 'large' fish and chips. Unfortunately the fish was small and not cheap. Need to change your name to the SMALL FISH! Ordered F & c, fishcake, peas and curry, cost £12. Might be giving this chippy a miss for a few months.

For years this was the best chippy in Mold, in weeks after a change of ownership its bar far the worse. Call in at tea time there is no queue which says it all. Food is utter rubbish.

Have had a few meals from this place, since moving to Mold recently, and have been underwhelmed on each occasion; but yesterday's offering will be the last time we will waste our money here. Chips are undercooked, and fish is dried up. Our meals came incomplete last night, and instead of putting in a tray, they were thrown in paper...The final straw was the gravy; it had the taste and consistency of dirty dishwater. All our meals were thrown in the bin; complete waste of money. Finally, I contacted The Big Fish on Facebook, to complain, but my comment was deleted, and I was subsequently ignored! Absolutely disgusting! Safe to say, we will be going elsewhere for our Friday night chippy from now on!!

We were looking forward to our chippy tea all week, never known mold to have a good chippy and after reading some good reviews we thought we would give it a whirl. The chips were good, but the paper was stuck to the food so it was a bit inconvenient pealing it off. Ordered a large sausage and we were given two small ones, not fussed but still not ideal. We would go back again to be fair but not in a hurry!

The worst fish and chips we have ever had. Not been to the big fish since new owners took over. I hope the photo shows what a congealed, fatty mess this was. It was inedible .chips dripping in fat, no tray for the fish and chips so they stuck to the paper and the chips just mush. Absolutely inedible and disgusting.

Picked up 2 x fish and one large chips. Chips were not edible, obviously yesterdays, in fact they looked a week old. Chips were cold. Fish was edible but only just. Such a shame used to be really good. Will not be visiting again.

Service was much improved after previous owners but food was left with need for improvement. Chips were good but over salted and the fish was poor with batter too thick and cake like consistency.. Fish needs to be cooked to order with a lighter batter.

First visit since new owners have taken over. Food was good but prices are extortionate, small chips, small sausage, gravy £4.40! I won’t be going back anytime soon

The Big Fish reopened yesterday, thought we’d give it a try, spotlessly clean, very pleasant staff, HUGE fish and chips, I opted for a doner Wrap which was very tasty indeed, will be back for more, after avoiding the place for years Good luck ,...

Service was terrible without a smile a thanks and the salt and vinegar barely made the chips. The food was really poor and totally over cooked. It felt all too rushed and no regard for food or customer. Certainly don’t recommend.

What has happened to this chippy? Use to be decent but tonight had fish and chips that had obviously been stood there for a while. Fish was disgusting, didn’t even taste of fish, soggy batter, chips were warmed up and the mushy peas just plonked...

Old school chip shop, massive portions freshly cooked and well priced. Meal deals are excellent value, staff friendly.

The worst chips I have ever tasted. Over cooked and a dreadful taste of cooking oil. AVOID. Also expensive as well.
