The Battered Fish in Flintshire

Honestly one of the most solid fish and chip shops I've ever been to. Everything was cooked perfectly prices were affordable. People were nice. Place could do with a paint outside but don't let that put you off. Best fish and chips in North Wales.

We had fish and chips which was lovely and fried fresh to order. Service was quick and friendly.

Fantastic chips and a great selection of other foods. I like to get an Oggy from next door’s bakery, and put it with my chips gravy and mushy peas, mmmmmmmmmmm. Followed by a pint in the Lighthouse. Stay local!

On holiday in Talacre, got chips on way back to holiday park after being at beach for the day. The chips and fish was delicious, perfect chips and a light but crispy battered cod, cooked fresh. Staff were extremely friendly, I highly recommend

Fish fried to order, so be prepared to wait. Nice crispy batter on the fish. The town is full of caravans and chalets, a bit dated. Walk over to the beach though. Miles of sandy beach, a lighthouse and views of Wirral and Liverpool. Great beach and dunes.

The fish was good but the chips were just horrible, swimming in grease and undercooked.The premises were utterly dilapidated- windows nearly falling out and rotten and the decor very poor and dirty. The outside tables were absolutely filthy and like the i side, didn't appear to have been cleaned for years. A very poor meal in filthy premises

Had been for a walk near the beach and stopped here for a cone of chips. OMG the best chips I have ever tasted, my friend had recommended the chip shop and I can honestly say this will be a regular stop when we are passing by.

The chips are the best me and partner have ever tasted. If you are in the area definitely stop by and try the food .

Visited here today, 13th August 2023, after a visit to Towyn Market in Wales, I was with my neighbour and his elderly mother just for a day out something different. I ordered the traditional fish and chips but no mushy peas, my neighbour and his mother had sausage and chips. I have to say well of the food I had was absolutely amazing came to our table freshly cooked and red hot. No complaints whatsoever, and I don't think my neighbour and his mother had any issues either. Will definitely be back!!

The food was yummy and fairly ok sized ( I have a huge appetite so eat crazy sized portions), the service was great.

The food is alright if you have 40 minutes spare to queue for it! We went yesterday and honestly there was no reason for us to wait that long. 3 staff on and only one of them seemed to be doing anything (the bare minimum at that). Very lazy business, shame because the food was nice once we got it and they have the opportunity to be a good business! A whole queue of people and it was as if they couldn’t actually see any of us! Definitely will not be going back here, it set our beach trip off on a bad note and also wasted so much of our time. Horrendous.

Fabulous fish and excellent freshly cooked chips. Unfortunately they’re not open every day in the week, so we went to the fish bar on Talacre beach park. Big mistake! The chips tasted and looked a week old, that’s the 3rd. Time now and will not use them again. Battered fish every time.

Popped by to look at the lighthouse and decided to have a bite to eat and I'm glad I did, fish was lightly battered and fresh, chips was golden crispy..fresh out of the fryer... best fish and chips I've had in a while!

We got mini fish and chips and it was nice. The customer service there is absolutely awful though and ruins the whole experience. I have been to much nice chippys that also have good customer service. We were stood waiting for 20 minutes with every member of staff ignoring us until finally one asked the guy cooking the fish if they were taking orders again?!!! They had never even told us they had stopped. They didn't even say sorry we are really busy but we will be with you as soon as we can. Just completely ignored. Once they finally took our order it took ages to finally get our order. When it's busy why are they only making fish to order?!!! Just put a couple of each in as extra so you can always have an order ready of needed! Then like 20 mins before closing, if you're quiet, stop putting extra in so they used.

The two portions of chips I ordered were fantastic, the 40 minutes it took to 'prepare' them not so much especially after being told we couldn't have fish as it would be 30 minutes to prepare 🤷🏼‍♀️. I wouldn't mind but there was only me and one other customer in the shop. I'm not sure what was going on as one minute customers were being told no orders were being taken as they were closing and 15 minutes later they were serving again with no mention of closing?!

Decided to go to the beach for a stroll and to grab some fish and chips for tea to end the day. Stumbled upon this establishment situated in the middle of scouse Rhyl… While the food was nice and piping hot the 30-40 minute wait was really frustrating. People being turned away because of the time it would take to cook their food would run over their closing time then people arriving after them being served. I stood and waited for my food and genuinely laughed out loud at the bickering going on between the 4 staff that were attempting to prepare simple fish and chips. The only male that worked in the establishment did nothing but moan and turn people away and cherry pick the orders he decided he wanted to make. Nobody knew what food had been prepared for a certain order and on a whole it was really comical to watch. I think next time I’ll save myself the wait and grab something on the way home. Food 8/10 Customer service 2/10 Comedy value 10/10

Stayed at talacre beach resort there chippy served cold greasy food really disappointed.security told me about this place .piping hot food good quality did wait for about 20 minutes which I don’t mind saw the fish getting cooked in front of me 5 minute walk back to caavan still piping hot highly recommend

Best fish and chips I've ever had

Had small fish and chips £5.50. the chips were very nice, golden and delicious. The fish was a fair size, very fresh and the batter was crispy. Enjoyed it but couldn't quite manage all the chips. Good portion size and friendly helpful staff, will return 😀

This is the best fish and chip shop ever! The only issue is it closes at weird times. We always try to go though when at the seaside.

Fantastic chippy. Everything freshly cooked. Fish and Chips got to be one of the best I've tried in North Wales. Fish was cooked perfectly, hard to get hold of a decent crispy fish. All responsibility priced as well. Definitely worth the visit.

Fair prices for the portions but the fish was very bland and batter chewy not crisp. Chips were lovely but after 35 minutes of waiting (with only 4 people in front of me) it wasn't that satisfying in the end. Cleanliness from my side of the counter didn't seem great either, unable to find a food hygiene rating since 2019...

Good seaside chippy and it always tastes better at the seaside

The fish and chips are superb here, and I’ve been many a time over the years (thinks it’s been run by the same team) But my god the hygiene and cleanliness is poor from a customers view, I can only assume/hope it’s better from their view and from an inspection point. It never seems to be any better or cleaner whether in height of the season or the lowest point, it’s just needs a good few days to be given a proper clean, touch up and some actual love spending on it. It’s kinda of resting on it’s laurels and we are 2022 and 1982.

Went for a walk along the beach and after we had fish and chips. OMG they were amazing. Fish was freshly cooked and chips were amazing too! The tasted so fresh. What more can I say, simply delicious. :-)

Came here for our dinner a few times while we stayed at the caravan site the chips were lovely and good size portions and the staff were very friendly defiantly worth a try.

Went to talacre for a day out for wife's birthday, used to holiday at talacre as a kid 50 odd yrs ago. We had fish n chips here and I can honestly say they were the BEST I've had for many years

Delicious Fish and chips- they really were. The curry sauce was lovely too. I had to drop a mark as the wait for food was outrageous. I know we’re still living in a world where literally everything is blamed on Covid19 but we honestly waited 25 minutes for one portion of fish, chips and curry, a small sausage and 2 cans. I have no idea how it can take so long. Upon arriving there were 2 people in front. One ordering 2 portions of fish and chips and one just a portion of chips and gravy. It was lunchtime, just get a few fish on the go! The wait time became so irritating that whilst we were waiting 3 people gave up and went for a pasty next door instead. Food was lovely but please speed up. 25 minutes for fish and chips is insane.

The owners have been providing home deliveries to Talacre residents during the lockdown period? Collected orders Friday late morning for delivery that afternoon. Fish and chips were excellent! Nice and hot and very tasty! This was the last date for home delivery but we’ll definitely go again. It’s been a real treat on Fridays. Well done!

Tastiest fish and chips we’ve had in a long time. Great find after a sunny but bracing Spring walk and to finish off a great cup of tea.

Allthough I use this chippy because the food is nice it's quite expensive for what you get. Only really open for the tourist season. Unfortunately Prepare to spend a lot of money and still go home hungry at this tourist aimed chippy

Nothing beats fish and chips after a day on the beach and this little place ticks all the boxes to fulfil this feeling.

What a great couple Chris and Rachael are, so warm and friendly to both humans and four Legged furry friends. If you are ever down Talacre beach make sure you stop by for some lovely tasty grub

Value for money is alright. Food was pretty good for the price. Very handy if you are staying on the site.

After travelling most of the afternoon it was a relief to find this chippy. Order the special - half chicken and chips. Absolutely not disappointed on portion size or price!

Fantastic fish and chips. My son had the kids sausage and chips meal, it was a huge portion! fab food and service. yes the benches out side are a little dated, however they all are outside the other surrounding shops, so it's no reflection on the chip shop. we visit Towyn often so will make the journey up to the chipshop, some of the best chips we've had!

Waited 20 minutes for mini fish and chips, as nothing was ready, unlike most takeaways. The wife did say it was a lovely piece of fish, and that's the only reason I gave 2 stars.Decor outdated and falling apart. 4 people behind counter, only one collecting cash only payments and the gentleman cooking the fish. Unfortunately as you look around the place needs a good clean. Just look at the black dirty fan in the background. And yet the 2 staff not doing anything were happy to stand their with their arms folded.

The tables outside are dirty and they do not provide forks, so we will take the food back to the Cravan next time

After a long walk along the beach we were really looking forward to some good ole seaside fish and chips. Unfortunately we didn't have any cash on us as we came for a walk and didn't want cash to get wet after a little dip!. We were so disappointed that they only accepted cash? There was a cash machine in one of the amusement arcades but was out of order when we went. Luckily the little bakers next door accepted cards.

We always stop here for their superb chips fish and mushy peas. And if you are really cheeky, you can have one of the excellent pies from next door Clwyd bakery and a pint in the Lighthouse pub. All within 50 yards!

Bad customer service. No acknowledgement that we were even there, even during the order taking, not a word spoken for the guy. Waited 20 minutes and we were the only ones who had ordered, wasn't busy. Fish was wayyyyy over battered. Won't come again.

Great place to go for great food at great prices plus the parking is only 20 pence for 2 hours so you can walk it off along the beach after. we drive for 1 and half hours to get there just for chips and a walk then drive all the way back, keep up the good work it's worth it me ducks.

Walked from presthaven and settled here for dinner. Lovely chips. Cost about £7 for 2x curry and chips and chips. Sounds daft but my only complaint is lay off the curry. It was way too much that it made chips soggy

Had plenty of choice as we drove through North Wales....... I know several really good chip shops but decided to go Talacre..... This was maybe the wrong idea..... Apart from the curry sauce and the mushy peas this was not great...... the chips were OK but the fish wasnt tasty and the batter was sloppy and greasy...... I won't be rushing back

Shared a cone of chips as had already had a spot of lunch but couldn’t resist chips at the beach. They were delicious! Best I’d had in ages but unfortunately quite a distance to travel from where we live but would definitely come back for more if in the area again!

Fabulous fish and chips,well cooked and definitely fresh, on our first visit myself and my husband shared a portion it was absolutely lovely,2nd visit we had a portion each but I had the mini version but we did share a portion of peas,good price well presented and most important very clean.

Good food fresh fish you can get lots of lovely food pies fish burgers chips ect nextdoor you can get a very good selection of ice cream slushes expensive but quality is very good

My partner qued up behind approx 5 people for around 10 minutes,

being a vegetarian we had gone next door to grab a cheese and onion pasty but they had none. so popped into the chippy on the offchance they may have had some in.

Went to Talacre for a walk with my family decided to have fish and chips as a little treat. The fish was inedible and the chips greasy and disgusting even the dogs turned their noses up at them .The servers where 3 young people that obviously didn't know how to cook .I can still taste the oil 3 hours after we ate .Avoid at all costs!!!

Chips froma chippy usually look golden brown. Not here. Anemic chips and fish that went right through you

Good points - I really enjoyed the food from here; the chips tasted fresh and hot and my family enjoyed the fish and chicken that they had.

When we entered the shop, the owner couldn’t give a more disgusted uninterested look. When I started to give my order she walked off halfway while I was talking to start making it, not listening to the actual order which ended up being wrong. Not one to argue so we took the order when I asked for a burger she snapped and told me they were sold out.

I walked in here and walked out after 2 minutes. Firstly, the area behind the counter looked so dirty and grubby, the first thing I look for when I go to a place to eat is if it looks clean... this place really wasn’t. Also the whole place could do with a bit of a revamp, they can definitely afford it considering the profit they’re making on the food the sell, talk about a rip off. It was about £5.20 for a very small fish or sausage, a small portion of chips and a ladle of curry sauce. My friends who brought the chips said they didn’t taste very nice, I tried one and I have to agree, they had no flavour at all. Overall I don’t see how a place that looks dirty and doesn’t sell good food can charge such a ridiculous price. The person behind the counter was nice enough though

Went In for fish and chips after a long lovely walk and was really disappointed with what we were served. The chips were just ok but my fish was dry and chewy and there more batter than fish and when you bit into the batter it was dripping with grease my partners fish resembled more like a fish finger it was tiny and for what you paid shocking. Dissapointing end to what was a lovely day.

Called today 9th August 2017 with my daughter and 4 grandchildren after travelling from Stoke-on-Trent. We happend to find this beach just by chance and were glad we did on account of coming across the "Battered Fish".First class fish and chips.The shop is clean and the service was quick and everything was cooked to order. Served hot. Seating outside as well as within. Sat outside on account of being a rare sunny day. Visited the beach and saw the lighthouse and then called back to have some very tasty ice cream before returning to Stoke, which is only 1 and a half hours away. Will call again now we know about this place.

Cada vez que visita la playa siempre nos visita Talacre el pescado maltratado así podemos tener algo muy rico. La comida siempre es deliciosa, las fichas son siempre frescas y el pescado hoy fue excepcional. El personal de la tienda son siempre amables, educados y nada es demasiado problema. Especialmente los chicos jóvenes que estaban trabajando hoy aunque fue realmente ocupados todavía tiempo para hablar y preguntar cómo era nuestro día y que espero que disfrute son comida. Sin duda volveremos a disfrutar más de los peces preciosos y patatas fritas! .

Nos limitamos a buen pescado y patatas fritas - una vieja sabia elección. El pescado estaba muy buena, no grasienta o mojado, como algunas tiendas de chip. Estoy de acuerdo con algunas de las otras críticas que las patatas no eran de lo mejor, pero fue rápido el servicio, precio justo y sin duda está lejos de la 'peor chippy en norte de Gales' como una crítica.

Llaman para 2 porciones de pescado y una porción de patatas fritas. . Buen Dios. . . mi pedido fue tomado por la mujer busca más grosera y en condiciones poco higiénicas, cómo desenterrar dieron su trabajo. . 40 minutos más tarde y habiendo sido preguntado no quiero sal y vinagre 50 veces en el final que le di. ¿por qué quejarse!. ! Called in for tea. Chips bit soggy but reasonable prices and curry nice but not best Ive had. Good size portions and not totally off put by going again.

El pescado rebozado es administrado por una pareja encantadora a dos minutos a pie de la playa local. Toda la comida se sirve en chips a un precio razonable y recién preparado. Cuando haya terminado su comida prueba la heladería adjunto, que es parte del mismo establecimiento para un regalo extra! ! ! ! ! ! !

El pescado es excelente, con muchas salsas para elegir. Todos ellos sabe bien. Quiero viajar a Halifax sólo, así que puedes comer!

Well anyone saying this place is good value must of eaten to much of the fatty greasy chips. Went there bought fish and chips for me and my wife they made me physically sick.Dont eat there it's awful try somewhere else.

Visited with the hubby and kids. The chips were so disgusting me and my daughter were both nearly sick. I had described the taste as a toilet and my daughter said they tasted to her like horse poo. Will not visit again.

Looked so forward to fish and chips on the beach.......at a cost of £12 for two lots of fish and chips, me and my partner were so dissapointed. They only had battered cod, despite having other fish on their huge menu...? The guys working there looked about 12 and I had no confidence in them knowing how to make decent fish and chips. The fish was RIDICULOUSLY greasy and the chips were soggy, greasy and covered in black bits. They also use polystyrene packaging which didn't help, all of the vile smelling grease just soaked through the fish and then onto the chips. The building itself looked awful, the slushy machine looked very dirty and old, the floor was dirty and generally, the place looked like a dive. How can you go so wrong with fish and chips AND what kind of chip shop only sells battered fish despite having a big menu with other options that aren't actually available?!

Visited Talacre today for a day out. It's a lovely small place with a few amusements and caravan parks with a nice beach. We had some chips from The Battered Fish and an icecream afterwards and sat outside. Really enjoyed the chips and the icecream so will be returning again when we visit Talacre.

Handy for a quick snack, but quite expensive if you have a few children. Chips not always hot and it's good to ask for fish as soon as you go in as you might have a bit of a wait. Better value getting the children's box meals for the kids.

we were staying in Talacre on holiday after a busy day we decided to have a take away instead of cooking We ordered two Cod and chips peas, The fish was very greasy as you broke the batter the grease pored out the batter was tasteless the chip very bitty and the peas looked as if they had been in a blitzed. not an experience I wish to try again

We have eaten here a few times and never been disappointed,the portions are very good,well cooked in a clean surroundings.Prices are reasonable and the seating gets full quickly.

No idea what they do to make those chips (and I bet they wouldn't let the secret out) but they is damned fine chips. Superbly crunchy on the outside, cooked to perfection on the inside.Don't get me wrong - the fish was great too - and freshly cooked to order . . . but those chips . . . . Friendly staff, great service - shame it's 2 hours away from home really but boy was it worth it.

Chips are amazing. Probably the best I have tasted. Even my son agreed!!! Nice eating them in the fresh air too!!! Lovely helpful staff :-)
