Our first visit. We were in Bovey for the day and dropped in here. It is at the top of the town. It's rather quirky inside, a very small bar and divided into little seating areas. We were shown to the garden and decided to sit here. Our drinks were brought out to us. 3 real ales, the Dartmoor Legend very good. A lovely sun trap garden. Would definitely come again if in the area.

Smashing pub with a great range of beers and ciders, not to mention the table service from Erin and crew. Landlords have put a lot of effort into making it nice and the garden is absolutely lovely tucked away at the back. It's quickly become our 'go to' after a spot of shopping.

Called in for drinks whilst visiting the area. Lovely atmosphere with friendly staff & locals. We were lucky enough to have the beautiful garden to ourselves ~ a lot of time & love has gone into this, it really is a hidden gem. The real ale was well kept and the red wine was served in a warmed glass ~ it’s little touches like this that make this lovely pub a special place. Our server could not have been more helpful, thanks for a lovely evening.

We were down from Essex for just one night , we had heard about the Bell so set of to find it , So glad we did ,we had our Jack Russell Sprout with us ,we were made to feel so welcome, the landlord gave us a big fluffy bed for Sprout and lots of chews , the only shame was the kitchen had closed about 8wks before, but not to worry as landlord was quite happy for us to bring in a takeaway and eat inside, so can recommend the chippy over the road ,, The pub supplied us with cutlery and any condiments we wanted , so friendly, didn't want too leave . the beer is good as well , this pub is a must to visit if your in Bovey Tracey ..

Very disgusted. Went for one drink with family. Unfortunatly the young waitress dropped a glass of wine over the table and over my mum. No apologies (but we accept this may be due to embarrassment - we helped the girl clean up and get tissue without fuss. The waitress asked us to ask behind the bar for a replacement drink. This was questioned by the land lady as to whose fault it was and to what size drink she should replace. No apology, abrupt nature stating ‘what do you want me to do about it?! Take her? (Meaning my mum - 63 ) to the dry cleaners’ and stormed off. Very rude. 0/10 for hospitality and rudeness. We are locals living in the next village up, we will not be returning again.

Visited the Bell Inn, a 16th century Gd II listed building, full of character displaying pretty hanging baskets & window boxes, located in Town Hall Place, Bovey Tracey accessible via B3344 off the A38. This gem of a pub clearly value their customers, greeting them in a welcoming manner & service with a smile. Chose traditional cooked ham salad after finding it difficult to choose from other tempting options; it was exemplary. A salad served in a wooden bowl including everything from potato salad, coleslaw, generous thick slices of sumptuous ham, beetroot, spring onions, roasted peppers & toms, cherry toms, onions, cucumber, various lettuce leaves; not only did the bowl look enticing, it was packed full of flavour. We had rustic bread (tasted like sourdough bread & was delicious) with 2 individual butters & a small jug of dressing. (Was offered a choice of dressing. Have included photo which doesn't do it justice as salad was divine). Truly a fantastic salad, fantastic service, highly recommend & will return. (Our only regret is we failed to realise the beautiful display of flowers upon entrance should have provided a clue that a hidden oasis is located at the rear of pub, offering customers to dine outside amongst a charming, well kept garden area.🥰)

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We are regular and frequent visitors to Bovey and use the Bell, especially their lovely beer garden during the warmer months. On this visit something went wrong with their service model. We called in for a pint and were told we could sit anywhere in the pub, it was quiet so we sat at a table that had six seats around it. The Bell has mostly large tables so makes it difficult to find a table just for two. There is table service which seem a bit odd for a pub post pandemic, but acceptable. The service was good and we enjoyed a pint of Legend. We were asked if we wanted another drink by the attentive staff which we agreed to. Half way through this drink we were approached by the member of staff who asked us to move to another table because our table had been "reserved". This was 4.30 pm - so not at lunch or evening meal time. We had no issue with this as we were at a table for six. No mention of the table being reserved at a particular time was said when we arrived, or when we were asked if we wanted another drink. We duly moved tables with no complaint. A few minutes later three people turned up to take the table that we had vacated - all of whom who appeared to be well-known to the staff. Had there been a group of six we would have had no issue. There were other tables free which could have accommodated this group of three, or of six or that matter. My question is, why couldn't this group of three have been shown to another table, or why couldn't the staff have told us at the outset that the table was reserved at a particular time? Bearing in mind that this is a pub, not a restaurant, why were the tables "reserved" anyway - and at 4.30 in the afternoon? We spend a lot of time visiting local hostelries and have never come across this before - unless a table was reserved for dining - and then we have been told as much at the outset. This has left a sour taste and we feel like this is very much a "local pub for local people", and irregular visitors are not welcomed. We will be very circumspect about visiting The Bell in future.

So we never ventured much further. However having discovered the Bell does Belgian beer amongst other European beers we will visit again! Also the mosaic opposite about the history of Bovey with the plaque was very interesting.

Visited on a Friday at 6:30pm having reserved a table, place was extremely busy. Service was slow due to short staffing. When our order arrived it was well cooked and tasty, which made up in some part for the hour wait. I'm sure that normal service would be better, but I have to reflect what we experienced, sorry. With regard to the owners response I feel it necessary to clarify a couple of points. Firstly I will not argue the specific times but purely in the interests of pedantry I would like to state that drinks, 2 steak baguettes and 1 portion of chips were ordered with the waitress at the same time. Drinks were served with apologies for delay by waitress a little later. After fire alarm went off, I enquired of waitress as to our food. We were told that it was underway. Once again the waitress was aware and apologised for the wait. Our baguettes were delivered by the barman, to whom we said that chips were also on the order. These were subsequently delivered quite quickly by a third person, possibly the owner. Whilst having some experience of cooking steak on various hearths I accept that everyone does it differently but resting for thirty minutes seems much longer than many chefs would advise. As a quality assurance auditor, my comments are intended to encourage.

Nice place - had breakfast here a few months ago and it was great. Back in the area today looking to do 30 minutes work with a coffee (quiet inside with lots of seats available) and was told when my coffee was delivered that no laptops were allowed. This is not signposted anywhere and I did not feel welcome, even with my laptop closed. Left without drinking the coffee and went to Cafe Latino where I was much more welcome, they offered the Wi-Fi password and the coffee was great. Probably won't come back to The Old Library, which is a shame!

I have been a customer since the very beginning. Extremely friendly service and friendly regular customers also. Ly-Ann is very welcoming to everyone. Superb service and coffee!

As usual, a warm welcome from The Nobody Inn on a snowy night. Fought our way through literally 4 cms of snow to go to the Beaujolais Nouveau event. This new wine was matched with a classic Boeuf Bourguignon. Both perfect. The temperature from the cosy fire and the welcome were both warm. Some locals in the pub rescued us and pushed us out of the snow drifts - very pleased to join the other guests. Always been a great pub.

Very lovely meal I had plus the place was very easy to locate for a newbie to the area like myself. Very filling portions too
