Came to The Bell Inn for dinner and wasn’t disappointed at all. One of the nicest, most authentic pubs I’ve ever been too, with wonderful hosts and fantastic food. Plus the drinks are very reasonable, big selection and they show the sport! We had nachos to share to start which were great and then followed with a homemade slow cooked lamb curry with all the trimmings and a philly cheesesteak pie for the 2 mains. So tasty, loads of it and very reasonably priced. I’d genuinely say it was one of the best curries around. If you’re in the area and you need somewhere to eat, drink or watch the sport, this is the place for you. But make sure you book up as it was busy!

We had dinner during our holiday a few weeks ago. The pub was recommended by the campsite owner at South Ford Farm Camping and he was spot on. The food was great and very reasonably priced. We went with 6 of us and I was pleasantly surprised when it came to pay the bill! Well worth the visit and I would wholeheartedly recommend the Bell Inn! Dog friendly as well.

Had a really nice meal here, never been before in fact I never knew it was there but it is a busy pub ideal for the local community and plenty of people travel there going by the amount of cars parked opposite. If you like Gin as a drink you'll be spoilt for choice as there are so many. It is a really friendly place with a large beer garden out the back, I can imagine it's very popular in the Summer months. I would definitely recommend this place even though it's off the beaten track, the road to it is a typical country road.

Had a great lunch yesterday. Having come from Salcombe, the food here was, by comparison, superb. Can’t recommend it highly enough. The whole pub has lots going on in various rooms. I’m always amazed at how some isolated pubs can do so well. The management owners should take over The Ferry Inn at Salcombe. It has a location to die for but the food we were served was so poor by comparison.

We were staying at a local resort and decided to venture out to sample some local pub food and we’re not disappointed! We booked a table for 3 plus a dog. On arrival the staff were friendly and attentive. The place is a traditional pub and we loved it as it had great character. The food was extremely good vale and the Chocolate Brownie “S’mores” dessert was amazing! The whole visit was great, so much so that we visited again a couple days later and also recommended to others at the resort who came back agreeing! Well done to all the staff!

Lovely food, gorgeous place and attentive staff. Went on a Tuesday Eve and it was rammed, would strongly advise booking a table. Only downside for me was that we went here for the gluten free menu on the website but alas it was no more, however the main menu is well marked up so those with allergies are catered for. Portion sizes are on the large size so make sure you come hungry. All in all an excellent meal, we shall return.

This is a gem of a village pub with a great community feel. We were welcomed by landlord Mark and landlady, Lynn, when we arrived. Delighted to see fairly early on that Mark had a similar GSOH! We learned later from Lynn that they have been in the pub trade for many years. The food was great: Excellently cooked and well presented. Good to see a varied range of real ales and lagers. I was especially pleased to see Snadford Orchards' Devon Mist! :-)

We are staying at the Bell. We've eaten here before a couple of times. The rooms are lovely, the food is really lovely, the atmosphere is great. Had a morning meeting and were looking to lunch nearby afterwards. Internet search revealed that several possible pubs in the area did not serve food on a Monday (quite a common occurrence since Covid & the tougher economic climate). It may have been "Hobson's choice" but the Bell did not disappoint. Lovely position on the village square, with good food, beer & cider, and friendly & efficient staff. Seemed to be quite a mix of locals & visitors - always a good sign in a pub.

If your looking for a restaurant THEN THIS ISN'T, IT'S A PUB! This is what I was very sternly told by the landlord when I first walked in and asked him where he had reserved our table too. The next rude encounter I experienced was when I asked the waitress to give me 2 minutes extra to read the menu as I'm not the fastest at reading. She just stood over me and laughed at my disability. I was told by the waitress that I had to go to the bar to get drinks yet later on another waitress ask if I wanted drinks? Confusing! Food was very good but certainly not made to feel welcome.

The lady that greeted us and served our table all night was what all public facing staff should be like. She was genuinely interested in us and giving us her time. The food was amazing. The portions were huge. Never, ever have I seen a Sundae for 2 test could easily have fed a family of 4. If ever we are back in the area we will most certainly visit again.

My family and I (four of us) were staying in Chittlehampton for a week, we ate here five nights out of seven, the food really is excellent, the steaks and Sunday lunch are particularly good, the best steak I've eaten in years...! We booked a table for 5 on a Friday night at the Bell Inn following a review of the menu online. The pub is family run and was busy with diners and drinkers when we arrived. Though we were 20mins early, we were led to our table and offered the menus. We had selected this pub as the menus offered different items than your usual pub fare and had a significantly better vegetarian menu than any of the major chains. Two local ales were on tap and were very well priced as well as the usual drinks. We ordered a beef and chicken burgers, chipotle chicken and spincach and aubergine lasagne. The burgers came with a multitude of toppings which you could choose up to three. My burger came with cheese, fried onions and grilled peppers and was perfectly done, slightly crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside. The chipotle chicken was excellent coming with the best pickled cucumbers being slightly sweet. The chicken burgers were very good as well as the lasagne. We all had chips which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Homemade coleslaw finished all the dishes apart from the lasagne. All the meals were enormous and none of us could finish them which was disappointing! We ordered a single pudding to go as there no more room! The whole experience was excellent and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The Bell is what a good local pub is all about, friendly staff, great drinks, superb home cooked food and a lively atmosphere. I am gutted that I am not a local as I would be there all of the time! Book your table and you will not be dissappointed.

Had the pleasure of dining out at the lovely Bell Inn at Chittlehampton last week. Went there for a business meeting - but as it was lunchtime and I was starving, I decided to get some food. After looking at what was on offer, I decided to go for something that was on their specials board: the 'Greedy Pig burger, which came with chips and onion rings.About 25-minutes later, my wait was rewarded with the most amazing of sights. Stacked carefully, but quite large, was this burger that, at first glance, was obviously not your average burger. Two beautiful brioche buns contained a combination of bacon, pulled pork, cheese, and gherkins. The quantity was one thing to behold but upon biting into the meat, my tastebuds immediately alerted me to the fact that, what I was now chewing on, was indeed meat of a very high quality - and that it had been cooked expertly by someone who knew exactly what they were doing. To say the meat was simply delicious would be doing it a great disservice. It was easily the best burger I've ever had in my life; the combination of meat perfectly complemented one another, the pulled pork just melted in your mouth - with a satisfyingly smoky, yet at the same time, sweet flavour that lingered. And the. bacon was top-notch too, with a generous slice of mature cheddar cheese lying in wait to round off your burger experience with perfection. When I went to pay afterwards, I complimented the chef, and then found out from the guy at the bar that the pub uses two steamers to cook the meat - each one costing around £12k! This process, I believe, is something that is used in certain parts of the US and involves the meat being cooked for at least 12 hours. Whatever the exact methodology is used, I can easily testify that the results are out of this world!Sorry to all those other burger restaurants that have opened up in Exeter over the last five years or so, but The Bell Inn beats you all by a country mile. Based on this amazing meal, and from what my friend said about their excellent longstanding reputation, I will definitely be coming back to this place to try something else on their menu. Highly recommended!

This was so nearly a bad review as some of us received a frosty welcome from a customer on the Saturday afternoon. We came in for a drink and there was no room in the bar. We noticed a couple sitting at a table in the restaurant so we thought it was OK for us to sit in there too. It was 4pm and food wasn't being served until 6pm. We sat and a table and 10 seconds later, we literally got evicted by a customer as we were sitting at her table (that she was going to be sitting at two hours later). We just got a drink and went outside with not a very good impression. We already had a large table booked the next evening for dinner and we so nearly cancelled due to that experience. We thought we would honour the booking though and went back the next day as planned and we are glad we did. The staff were lovely and welcoming and the food was tasty and plentiful. There was a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. The same lady was there, at the same table, so she is obviously very territorial!

Went to the farm shop for the first time this year and purchased meat, cheese, bread etc for our self catering holiday in Woolacombe. Food was excellent and the staff, so friendly and helpful. It will be a first stop before getting to the apartment in Woolacombe in 2024. Cant recommend it enough.
