The food here is fantastic, if a bit expensive. The fish is great, tartare sauce is amazing and their fish cakes are unbeatable. The staff are decent but I am giving this 3 stars purely due to the poster in the waiting area asking for 5 star reviews in return for a 'mystery gift' - this is dishonest and the reason why people treat reviews with hesitation. If it was truly a business that believed in their food and their staff they wouldn't need to beg for 5 star reviews. Again, great good but does make me wonder what other unethical business practices might be at play 🤔🤔

Came here 2 days ago spent £31 on family meal deal and let me tell you disappointed is not the word to describe this shambles of a chip shop. 1st off 2 mouldy bread cakes too be told by Im guessing the owner was delivered fresh that day should be been checked throughly. 2nd. The fish didn't stick to the batter all fell apart didn't have any taste and didn't taste fresh. 3. The chips were over cooked and was like 50 caliber bullets or was stone cold and under cooked this wasn't just a few was all 4 portions. 4. The curry sauce was watery and tasteless. Very disappointed in this told everyone I know about this and I WILL NOT be returning here

Having read and heard so much about The Bearded Sailor, I had to visit. The shop was tidy, the staff were friendly, and the information on the wall informed me about the potatoes being used that day and where the fish had been caught. The emphasis on sustainability was appreciated. I spotted a mound of delicious-looking scraps. I enjoy mixing scraps with mushy peas or curry, so I ordered a portion, which was free. However, when I opened the packaging at our destination, I was disappointed to find no scraps, even though they were listed on my receipt. The haddock had a nice, crispy, light batter, although the fillet was a little dry. The chips were pale and slightly undercooked. The curry sauce was spicy but rather tasteless, and the peas were just fine. The halloumi fritter was delicious, with a light and crispy batter. Love the Skinny Sailor has just enough chips for me. Also it has Haddock fish which is my favourite. They also have Scampi which my daughter prefers because she isn't a great lover of fish. I used to Scampi more myself because most fish and chip shops only have Cod. I don't like cod because it has no taste.

Good food won't lie but customer service levels are poor asked about a loyalty card and was told I don't qualify for a stamp when it doesn't even mention a minimum qualifying price just poor really let me down

Got referred from a friend of ours local to Pudsey and we tried it for the 1st time 2 weeks ago. 3rd time we've ordered from there now and it's been amazing everytime, definitely won't go anywhere else now. Speedy service from user eats also.

The best fish around i am fussy about fish as well. These guys are always fresh great quality cooked to perfection really white and flakey. Chips are great. I go for the fish more than the chips but still love them, always give you plenty of scraps. Great customer service 👏.

Called in today for the small fish and chips. Once again excellent service and quality. A great tea. If I could be picky I am disappointed at the spelling mistakes on some of the signs, eg filet, chili and unessessary. Please correct them.

Seriously good chippy. Batter on the fish was light and crispy yet substantial. The battered sausage ended up stealing the show. Never have I ever had a battered sausage where the sausage is actually a genuinely decent sausage. Bravo.

Cost £26.70 for Fish & Chips twice, chips were rock hard, fish was soggy, had the cheek to charge 10p for a bag, way overpriced, not very good at all, won't be using them again.

I have eaten lots of fish & chips in my time, but the bearded sailor is my favourite in Pudsey 😊🙌🏻 The times that my partner, me, and my children have eaten from the bearded sailor, the batter on the fish was crisp, and the chips were crunchy, how they should be in my opinion and we have Pavo to thank for making them taste lovely! ☺️ Unfortunately, if he isn't at the bearded sailor, the fish & chips aren't made as great. I highly recommend Pavo for those who order from here.

I've ordered for delivery from these guys before but chose to collect this time. Great and friendly service and more importantly the food was great. I ordered a Special/Large fish and chips. The quality was one of the best I've had and portion size was just right.

Order and collection process was easy. Got home and realised they hadn’t packed my chips - my fault for not checking sooner. Called up to discuss it and straight away they offered to drop them off and they were here within 5 minutes. Amazing service

My partner brought home a chippy supper this evening which I have to say was gorgeous, fish n chips once, an extra fish, curry sauce and a bread cake, thick end of 18 quid 😮 I think it was the £3.15 for the chips and £1 for the bread cake that made the cost hard to swallow? But to be fair the fish was good, just a shame the additional items were so over priced!!!

It's the attention to detail that singles out The Bearded Sailor: the friendly team of staff put huge efforts into their customer service; the ingredients are not only specified (potatoes from the Isle of Ely yesterday) but sourced with care and attention; the menu covers all the basics you could want as well as offering imaginative alternatives and new ideas to try; but their trump card is the consistently high standard of their cooking. Friends come to stay, offer to take us out for a meal and we suggest takeaway fish and chips from The Bearded Sailor instead. Neither we nor our friends have been disappointed yet.

My favourite spot for fish and chips by far! Whenever I am in town, I make sure to pay this place a visit. I love that they have a 'skinny sailor' (smaller option) for people like me that doesn't want a whole larger one to myself. Not only is the quality of food excellent. But the fact that they source their fish sustainably and are plastic free says it all. Bravo! Big appreciation to you guys! Thank you for doing your part. I visited today after seeing a video on social media advertising the products. I ordered a few portions of the halloumi loaded fries (each with different combinations of toppings) and I have to say the food was absolutely gorgeous! The halloumi was by far the nicest I’ve ever had from anywhere. The staff were friendly and very accommodating for my picky requests. As for the prices I do not think they are unreasonable at all. Especially when you consider the amount of products and the quality of the products that are being used. Oh and also they have incredible brownies on the counter!

In the last three weeks I have ordered the same items, and I have been charged three different prices, and when you say something, the staff and management just shrugg their shoulders, with a couldn't care less attitude. Tonight will be the last time I will visit, the food is overpriced to start, never mind been charged three different prices.

Walking round Pudsey when I got a whiff of fish and chips, couldn't resist going for some, the staff absolutely lovely, so friendly, this is a takeaway shop but as it wasn't busy they suggested I sit inside on the deep window ledge. I had a small portion which was just enough, really good food, excellent value. Couldn't fault anything.

Nice but extortionately priced or over charged. £16.40 for some loaded chips and a regular fish! The fish wasn’t much bigger than a jumbo sausage. Can’t justify spending that again. **Update after seeing the owner’s reply** I’ve reflected on the rating and my comments but sadly I standby them. At £16.40 the food provided wasn’t value for money or I was over charged. Having said that here’s some more context. I was charged for the loaded chips with Halloumi even though I’d asked for them without the Halloumi. If that’s the pricing policy then it should have been pointed out to me by the staff before I paid (and then I might have walked out). If it’s not the pricing policy then I should have been offered a refund. Instead, just before handing over the food the owner told me that he’d added extra bacon instead of the halloumi that I’d just realised I’d been charged for.

Had fish and chips with tartare sauce yesterday. Absolutely delicious;the fish cooked perfectly: the chips were great and the sauce was lovely. Only thing was the wooden fork...was difficult eating the fish while sitting in the car. Well worth the visit and sustainable fish as well 👍

I've tried many fisheries around Bramley and surroundings but I’ve never heard about The Bearded Sailor before, my partner read an article about you guys so we decided to give it a shot. We used to live on the south coast of the country, fish and chips was lovely there and sadly I couldn’t really find anything to compare to in Yorkshire until today. In other shops fish was heavy and literally dripping with oil. The Bearded Sailor’s was perfect, light and how it supposed to be done, well done guys! I was pleasantly impressed with the food we got. Fish itself was good a bit well done but I ate everything and was satisfied, batter was light and crispy, perfect for my liking, sandwiches were bang on, I had mine with spicy sauce WOW perfect combination. Finally find the perfect caught, thank you and see you soon!
