The Bear Inn in Rhondda Cynon Taf

Our visit to The Bear on Friday night was an absolute delight, and we felt incredibly lucky to have discovered such a gem! Right away, we were struck by the truly amazing service and the wonderfully friendly and welcoming atmosphere this public house offers. A standout moment was how the manager went above and beyond to assist one of our friends who had been thoroughly let down by Booking.com. He displayed incredible dedication, working tirelessly to organize another room, food, and transport for them. His efforts to help were truly exceptional, and we were profoundly grateful for his genuine care and support. And then there was the food! My wings and minted lamb were absolutely superb and incredibly plentiful. What a treat! Plus, the prices were wonderfully reasonable, making it one of the most affordable rounds I've purchased in ages. The Bear is an amazing establishment, and I sincerely wish it was my local pub. I can confidently say that if I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely be returning! BUT get a taxi, it's all uphill.

A warm welcome when we walked in. Lots of table choices, we chose to sit in the lovely little beer garden. Sunday roast smelt delicious 😋

STAYED HERE FOR 3NITES DUE TO WORKING LOCALLY. THE ROOMS ARE OUTSTANDING. THE HOME COOKED FOOD IS AMAZING. THE HOST ARE FANTASTIC 10/10

The Bear Inn booked as a B&B near Pontyclun. A very old historic pub run with heart and soul by Collin and his staff. As old and historic as the pub is, so modern and well equipped is the sleeping accommodation, brand new and super well maintained, neat and hygienic. Coffee and tea of your choice are ready next to the kettle. Water is also available. Stayed 3 nights, had a savory, super tasty breakfast three times after an invigorating night's sleep in a very quiet environment. Ate 1 time in the evening (kitchen open until 9 pm), super tasty fish and chips.... Really value for money. Pub sounds do not penetrate the bedrooms. Collin and his staff do everything possible to make you happy. In the evening and afternoon, the pub is populated with friendly local pub guests who are not shy about chatting. After years of staying with friends in Wales, I was forced by circumstances to look for new accommodation.... Found this at the Bear Inn, my new cutting in Wales. I highly recommend the Bear Inn! Not expensive, honest, cordial, hygienic.... Highly recommended!!!!! Collin, I'll be back!

Visiting from Ireland. Very wholesome food. 3 people. Had scampi, steak pie and cannelonie. All the meals were really nice, hot and tasty. Super portions and home made chips best in a long time. Definitely recommend for a 'hearty' meal. 👌

Been sometime since I came here but the Sunday carverys are still outstanding, friends service from the staff and owners who are lovely folks and a beautiful old school pub setting, also noticed a good selection of ciders and other drinks on tap.

Absolutely Top class carvery Sunday lunch ! Beef Gammon pork Turkey as much as you like ! No scrimping here ! Lovely roasties parsnip chips swede and dishes of fresh cabbage carrots peas ect. The Best Gravy you’ll ever taste and I’m a qualified chef !!!! It’s awesome ! Lovely friendly atmosphere great pint as well cask beers are incredible ! You won’t find better ! We’ve also been to the bear on an evening as well fantastic steaks lamb rumps ect with their home made triple cooked chips to die for !

We had wonderful family evening at The Bear Inn. The food was exceptionally good. (Best chips ever). The deserts were excellent inc sherry trifle and meringue fountain and others. The service was friendly. The price was reasonable. We would highly recommend the venue and look forward to another evening there.

Haven't visited the bear for many years. The food and service were excellent. We are now planning a little birthday celebration there 🎉

Lovely cosy pub with a friendly feel to the place. The steaks were perfectly cooked and the homemade chips are tremendous. It's got plenty to offer as a warm and friendly pub with great drinks choices and popular with the locals. It's dog friendly too which i was pleased to see being a dog owner. I'm pleased to add they've got a homemade mulled wine they've added here which is superb. Great for the festive season 👍

Beautiful pub, staff super helpful, and got us on a table although they were fully booked! The vegetarian carvery was superb, and came with dessert all for only £15! Will be going again next Sunday, thank you for delicious food and cosy surroundings 😀

I cannot say a bad thing about the Bear Inn pub and restaurant. The carvery was delicious, and at a very reasonable price. It was very quiet when we attended, and it left me thinking that many people are missing out on what could be a very popular place to eat. I will definitely go back again and again. So a big thank you to all the staff and owners of the Bear Inn Pub for such a lovely time.

First visit to the Bear for Sunday lunch … Fabulous food, friendly service and great value 😀

As I've only been for Sunday lunch, take this only as a review of Sunday lunch. Worst till last. Service and staff where excellent. The building fixtures and fittings good, would be excellent but they have squeezed table's together in the room where you go for the actual carvery, the only reason to do this is if you have full table's most of the time, in that room where we were seated was only ever half full the whole time we were there, it is not a nice atmosphere if you feel like a battery hen. Drinks and complimentary table water brilliant came in a jar with sliced lemon and ice(really trying), beer was in very good condition they know how to look after it, can't say that for too many small places. THE FOOD Three of our party ordered vegan options, when booking the Tuesday before we where told to ring back Thursday to order nut roasts, on Thursday we where told there was no nut roast option just vegan sausage but it was home made, when inquiring at the carvery on the day if the sausage contained quorn, the gentleman said he'd have to look at the packet. The gravy that was served with the vegan meals was described by 2 of our party as dishwater. Meat was good choice of beef, ham, pork and turkey, they also chuck in some cocktail sausages as well, Yorkshire puddings were greasy and undercooked, offered roast parsnips at the carvery they were chopped small and over cooked, (pointed out to me later that they were deep fried which makes sense with what ends up on the plate) And now we come to the horror that was the roast potato's they were nuked, dark brown to black of those 4 put on my plate 2 where burnt out shell inedible. A selection of sources( probably to hide the taste of the food) gravy was dark thick and not the best, vegetables served at the table where passable but I suspect out of a tin or frozen from Iceland. I nearly laughed when the waiter came round with the desert menu, informing us that the desert was included with the meal, i suppose they must have to do it that way, otherwise no one would order desert, wanting to get the hell out of there. Sad thing is the staff was lovely and helpful. The Bear was recommended to one of our party, maybe it was a good place to go eat at one time ( would explain the 4.5 stars on Google maps) unfortunately it no longer is, avoid unless you want a pint. The bill worked out at £14 a head ok for a good meal, but not this. I've paid a little less and got far nicer Sunday lunches in other establishments in a 10 mile radius.

Lovely old fashioned pub with friendly staff. Great food with real chips and not frozen. Nice beer garden out the back aswel. 2 car parks in walking distance for people driving xx

This is by far 'our' favourite Sunday Roast around. The staff are superb and so welcoming and the food is gorgeous.The Meats, Roasties and Parsnips are so moreish. Great value for money with the option of taking your desert home if you have no room. The only thing that could improve it for me?would be the inclusion of a homemade cauliflower/broccoli cheese (maybe as an extra add-on dish?) But that's just a minor detail of preference. What is on offer is done so well. A lovely traditional old pub not to be missed.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. It was my 40th birthday in there and they gave me a free drink. Aparantly that's the pub rule! Loved it. Highly recommended

Quaint little pub in Llantrisant centre. Staff were friendly. The beer was fairly reasonable priced.

Amazing pub, bowl of chips were massive and they even gave my dog a free sausage and water :) he loved it! Definitely go there with your pooches

Called to The Bear to watch the rugby (Wales v SA). Good range of lagers and beers. Welcoming staff and customers. Really impressive half time free food. Chicken curry, rice, chips and poppadum. Staff even made me a seperate veggie curry when I told them I'm not a meat eater! Overall great experience and customer service is excellent.

Never fail to get a very good meal at affordable prices. The service is first class, the beer is always good and the ambience is just right. A favourite of mine is the large gammon with extra onions rings. Would highly recommend going there.

Best Sunday lunch around by far. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. When it comes to serving the meat, they are very generous. Food is all home cooked. So cheap as you get a dessert in with the price! Been here for evening dinner too. Food again has always been tasty. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Beautiful food and lovely staff

This is my partners and my favourite place to go for Sunday Lunch. The carvery is fantastic with a variety of meats, generous portions and full of flavour. The staff are incredibly friendly and they do their best to make you feel at home. I've been once since they have been open through lockdown and the steps they had taken to ensure safety for everyone were top notch. Absolutely love the place and I can't wait for normality to resume so that we can make trips there more often again.

Me and a work mate popped in for a meal and we were treated as one of their own! Top class food just what was needed after a day on site! When and if we ever come back we’ll 100% be back for some more!!!
