The Bay Tree Cafe & Traditional Tea Room in Wealden

I went there recently for my first visit and enjoyed a lovely meal with a milkshake and will certainly visit again hopefully soon.

I've been here twice now and the breakfasts are delicious. Beautiful coffee and really friendly couple who run the place. Great experience and can't wait to use it again regularly when we move to Heathfield soon

Glad to see these guys reopening after lockdown. Indoor seating is spaced out and well screened. The tasty food and quality ingredients remain as good as ever.

We were both tired and went into this promising little cafe. We ordered soup but weren't told it had to be made from scratch. Why not? We waited for over 30 mins just for soup. When it arrived it was disgusting...tasted full of salt and thick stock cube. The chef was rather rude when I mentioned we couldn't eat it....he said we could just have Cambells next time. Well...I think this actually would have been preferable!! And there won't be a next time either!! The decent thing to do would have been to offer us an alternative or not charged us. Shame... Re the chef's rude answer below. We were NOT rude...he is lying....we sat, wet through, tired and hungry whilst he prepared an obnoxious soup. We waited and waited, chatting to each other. We waited well over 30 mins. We should have been told it had to be made from scratch...then we would have chosen something else. What happened to "Sorry " ? May we offer you something else? It can be seen from the rude answer below that this man is not worth bothering about. Over and out....

Came in with my partner, her grandmother and our little lad, cafe itself stunk of burnt food, and yet it was still freezing as the kitchen had the door open. We placed orders for a few paninis and toastie, didn't realise how overpriced this cafe can be, £36. Bit of a joke to be honest. And we ended up waiting over an over, and not a single apology, and met by the most miserable waitress who just plonked down our cuttlery and walked off without saying anything about how long everything was. Panini isnt a panini its a shop bought french stick crushed beyond recognition, the chips were really nice I enjoyed those. But my takeaway from this is, with how often we saw them heat up ingredients why are they charging they are? Overall pretty poor, won't come back.

Lovely full English nice friendly atmosphere and service

Honestly the best place I've ever eaten. The food is lovely and I feel very comfortable here. Food, service, milkshakes, coffee..everything is always perfect and the prices are fair. We go almost every day now. Just a great little cafe.

Friendly high Street cafe query by nature but the food and drinks are good, service is ok. Probably the best option in Heathfield for a relaxed morning coffee or lunch.

Always wonderful when you walk into a small cafe and they can still do breakfast after 2 p.m.. really nicely cooked, plenty of butter on the side. Great laid-back atmosphere. Really good variety on the menu. Only criticism, the table was quite sticky, and only white sugar. However it was after 2pm on a busy day. 👍👍

Prawn baguette was tasty, side salad was nice, service very good with friendly staff. Latte wasn't great but overall we would eat here again.

No nonsense, classic English cafe , great food, great prices great service. The only negative would be the air.. I think an investment is needed for the extractor fan to suck out the cooking smell from the customer area, but frankly that’s a small detail.

These places have become so rare, a traditional English cafe, where you can find a perfect full breakfast and a decent hot drink. Atmosphere friendly, nicely set up without being prententious, loads of regulars is always a good sign. Food was faultless, served quickly despite being pretty full and busy. Reasonably priced aswell. You wont go wrong here!

Lovely cheese and gammon toastie with real chunk of gammon and nice sides. Good service but shop a little cold.

Lovely place to go for a variety of food, sandwiches, baked potatoes, soup, smoothies, coffee, etc. Nice and bright and airy, friendly staff.

Cheap sliced bread and H.P sauce is not the real stuff Cheap sauce put in bottles.

Paid a visit today sadly to. Say standard has dropped since last visit. Disappointed.

Huge choice of food and drinks, will take you a while to make a choice of what to have. Very friendly and polite, the food is absolutely delicious 😋. Service is what you'd expect from a village, traditional. Prices are very reasonable the food is presented on plate with that extra bit care and attention to detail. We will definitely go back and I highly recommend that you the reader should go!

The best toastie I’ve had for a long time! Served with home cut Chips too :-) Very clean, neat, spacious cafe. Great staff. Didn’t wait long for our food. Served hot! Strawberry Smoothie delicious. Deserves 5 stars without hesitation. Definitely revisit next time we are in the area.

Waited a long time for food which was poor quality.

Friendly staff :) was happy they agreed to make me hash browns grilled tomatoes and toast as a throw things together option .. but they served me my two slices of toast without mentioning before that they had nothing at all to go on that toast.. Faced with my stack of dry cold toast I wasn’t too happy. On asking if there was really nothing, maybe even a plain spread.. was told that “it’s just vegans, it’s hard to do.. “ Fair enough if it’s hard to purchase plant based butter 🧈 but as a hungry vegan customer :/ wouldn’t run back Grateful they agreed to make the breakfast I asked but overall wouldn’t have ordered of I knew the toast would be plain .

This place is a gem! We only ended up going in for a quick snack as the first cafe we went into had no sandwiches so we had run out of options. We ordered prawn bagget and coffee. It was a bit of a wait but we didnt realise what we were waiting for! First my coffee was lovely and the wifes tea was good as well. When the food arrived we both considered it the best prawn bagget we had had! The bread was warm the filling was creamy and plentiful. We were not expecting home made frys salad with dressing and a dipp all we think home made. The service was polite and efficient. ......price was reasonable. Now this is only a cafe, it could do with a 'womans touch ' and that's a shame as it could be decorated so nicely....this being said TRY THE FOOD it's worth it!

Had afternoon tea delivered yesterday as a pressie. It was absolutely lovley. Everything home made and even a couple of carnations in the package. First class.

The lunch menu is quite extensive (some 10 mains), my steak & mushroom pie was tasty and the homemade wedges are the best! Friendly staff too.

Loved this place. Food was solid, guys serving were friendly. Son told them the toilet was col (we were there in Feb, of course its cold). One of guys was fun enough to tell him he would have it heated next time (son is only 9). Thanks for the good food and experience.
