Unfortunately, I left super disappointed. The place is really small so only about 7 tables had guests, and there were at least 5 members of staff that I could see at any one time. The food took ages to come (over an hour) and we watched some of our meals sit under a hot lamp for 20-25 minutes before it was served, so needless to say they were cold. The staff were much more concentrated on attending to a baby shower that had an afternoon tea; but it probably didn't need 3 people focusing on that whilst our food went cold. We wanted to just go and grab it ourself! Despite being in a lovely setting I wouldn't return on account of this; it was not worth the money for cold food and poor service :(

When we arrived the restaurant looked busy, we were shown to a table and waited 15 minutes to place our order for coffees and food. Another 15 mins before coffee arrived. My cappuccino was lukewarm although my husband’s Americano was hot. Then a forty minute wait for our meals. My husband’s meal came first, he was halfway through his meal before mine arrived. We could see this had happened to other tables as well. The waitress was lovely and apologised as they were a member of staff short, but we should have been informed when we arrived that there would be a very long wait on service. Will not be inclined to visit again especially as there is a choice of other establishments on site. The prawns and sourdough toast were not value for money. Too few prawns and unable to eat all toast as nothing to dip it in.

I got a voucher for my birthday including Afternoon tea for two and a charcuterie board and Prosecco. I was very impressed. The afternoon tea was full of delights - delicious cakes and warm & fresh scones. The sandwich choices were also great, including toasted sandwiches. We had a Mini Chicken Club/Brie/bacon/cranberry and smoked salmon. There was enough to take some home too… The staff were also very helpful, friendly and prompt in bringing out the food and drinks even though it was busy. Thank you!

My friend and I meet here every couple of months for lunch. There’s a great selection of meals and most can be tailored gluten free. Definitely try the steak sandwich if you’re hungry! Service is always good, staff are friendly and helpful and keen to know you are enjoying your food. Today we had afternoon tea, one gluten free and one standard. Lovely open sandwiches, cakes and scones with jam and cream. Unlimited tea and coffee available. We both came away very happy but very full! Highly recommended?

Bring a book, puzzles, a Sudoku, 1000 piece jigsaw or maybe a long game of Monopoly to enjoy as you wait forever for a club sandwich. Waitress seemed far more interested in another couple, who kept distracting the staff and who arrived after us but received their food before us, because "our order takes longer to cook". You mean you bumped our order to feed your friends first. First and last visit. £25 for 2 sandwiches and 2 sodas.

Firstly the staff are very friendly and the outdoor seating is very pleasant. My son (9) had a children's meal which was pretty good at £5 with a drink. The people on the table next to us had the burger, which looked delicious. My wife and I had afternoon tea. The sandwiches were ok, fairly basic (brie and cranberry; BLT, cheese and pickle). The cakes were fairly average, and bought in (I asked). There was one small scone each, they were ok. I always think it's a bit lazy to just serve slices of cake with afternoon tea; the picture of the tea on their website includes macrons, for example, which would have lifted it a bit. You struggle to get afternoon tea anywhere now for less than £20 a head, but we both thought here at £20 per head it was fairly poor value. There was enough food, but it was fairly basic and surprising for what bills itself as a fairly high-end setting. Probably won't go again.

Came here for a family celebration. There were 9 of us and we pre ordered the cream tea. The cafe was busy and very cramped. We waited 45 minutes before we got our food. I was disappointed with the quality of the cream tea. It was £20 each, but not much on the trays. Cakes left a lot to be desired. Lemon Cake (My favourite cake), was incredibly bland. A horrid coffee flavoured millionaire shortbread Square, and a sloppy chocolate cake, which didn't look appealing. The cream tea looked like it had been thrown together. Presentation was definitely lacking. Ciabatta slices were tasty, and scones were nice, but slightly small. We had to keep getting up out of our seats, to allow other patrons to get by, as did the table behind us. Lots of tea, but only given one small bottle with milk for the 9 of us, we had to.keep asking for milk and sugar. Sugar pots were minute with a few sugar cubes in them. Seemed like they couldn't cope with the amount of covers. Small things like a cafetiere for the unlimited coffee, instead of having to wait ages for our cups to be refilled. More milk and larger bowls for sugar. I felt it wasn't good value for money, atmosphere was rushed, not able to enjoy ourselves having to get up and down. Won't be returning, much better establishments offering nicer cream teas.

Food was more than decent and staff were friendly. But it wasn’t busy and service for food was VERY slow. We were well into out second drink before our food arrived. Didn’t order anything complicated, just something on toast and a club sandwich. Other customers were also asking where their food was as they had been waiting too long. So in summary, nice food, but poor service. Get the service right and this place will be a winner

Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon, around 30 minutes before closing but clearly still open. We sat down at a table and waited. Nothing. A man turned up, after us, with 2 children, was greeted, asked what he wanted, where they wanted to sit and was served. Meanwhile, we still waited. 2 waitresses clearing tables and walking around, totally ignoring us. Very very rude and I would call the service appalling if there was actually any service to speak of. You'd think that after months of lockdown that they would be glad of customers but no it seems they were more interested in clearing up so they could go home. Terrible and we felt insulted. Don't go!

I am writing once again following your response to my original review of 2 October. You are insinuating that I decided to have a refund despite the food being ready, this is not the truth. If, as you assert, our food was ready to be delivered within 30 minutes then it’s a shame that it did not show up within that timescale. I have my card receipts showing exactly the time of ordering and the time of refund, 30 minutes is comfortably exceeded, although I will say the refund transaction was the most efficient part of the whole experience. The till refund had to be authorised by someone who was called from the kitchen (that may have been you?), so that someone had ample opportunity to explain that our food was now ready. Nothing was said, not even an apology. At no time were we made aware of any excessive wait times, whether it be 20 minutes or longer. I was left thinking our order had slipped down the back of the fridge.I thought long and hard about responding to you in these troubled times, but you have made me out to be unreasonable, and the times on the card receipts prove otherwise.

This restaurant used to be a regular haunt of mine with my friends. Earlier in the year (pre-lockdown) I was very disappointed with the winter menu which did not have any healthy choices and I struggled to find something to order. Today, my husband and l went for breakfast. The staff were very polite and took the order quickly but it took over 35 mins following for our drinks to arrive and a little longer for the food. I sent my breakfast back to the kitchen because my poached eggs came with a very large dose of hot water that soaked the muffin making it disintegrate on the plate. It was revolting. The waitress replaced my meal which was much better but by the time it arrived, my husband had finished his food. Not sure if there is a new chef but the standard was less than average for the cost. I don’t think I’ll be returning any time soon.

Popped in today for lunch with my wife and young daughter - expected to not find a table but were lucky.I'll be honest I expected to be greeted with high prices and poor quantity. The heart of the country location is well known for its overpriced eateries and shops, where only the filthy rich go to - the type that wouldn't bat an eyelid at a tenner for a coffee. Well let's face it, that type don't drink coffee, their casual drink it's s bottle of the finest! This cafe though had a great menu, lots to choose from and really good prices.I had a Cajun melt, it was really nice. Hot, good quality ingredients and it filled me up. I had to try one of their puddings - delicious. In total the bill for 3 of us, stuffed and happy came to £23, which I had to check just in case they undercharged us. We've paid more at a Costa coffee for lunch, with just their naff mass produced toasted sandwiches. My only gripe was the coffee size. I ordered a large cappuccino but it was very small. I can't imagine what the small size would be - maybe served in an espresso cup? I think for £3.20 for the very small drink it was a little bit of the local upper-class creeping in perhaps.Overall a lovely place, great service, good prices and we'll certainly be returning.I'd recommend this as the go-to cafe for the heart of the country. Stay clear of the crepe place, a complete rip off.

Went for a family meal. No children’s menu. Instead we’re charged £6.95 for a one course child’s meal with no drink. The barn was particularly warm which made it uncomfortable to sit in.We were seated quickly however waited a while for our order to be taken. This appeared to be the start of a pattern for the remainder of the meal. When our order was finally taken we then waited considerable periods of time to receive anything. We were give a dirty glass to drink, waited around 30 mins for our started of pate and garlic mushrooms and then another 30 mins for our beef main. When the main arrived we were left wanting, particularly my husbands meal, the beef was mostly fat, they did replace this with some plain turkey but by that point it had already ruined the meal. The food actually tasted nice but the quality and execution was lacking, the kitchen is tiny so much so that the staff were emptying actual dishwasher trays on the pass with food sat waiting to be taken to tables right next to it. Explains the food standards agency grade only being a 4.I’m a good vendor and I wouldn’t except that sort of practice. If I had seen it sooner I would have left.We decided to leave and not have desert! For the trouble they gave us £1 off.. well over an hour of our Sunday wasted and left with a bad taste in our mouth.Disjointed service, bad practices and most likely bad management. Avoid!

Just had coffee and cake as that was all they were serving if you sat outside - inside was fully booked out. They provided blankets as it was a little chilly outside in the wind - which was a nice touch. Would have expected the cake to be home baked but it wasn't which was a bit disappointing. Could be improved upon if they offered simple snacks outside such as soup and a roll or warm sausage rolls, especially as it was lunch time - wouldn't have been difficult to do.

Had breakfast here. Food was cold! Worst breakfast i have had in a cafe, ever! But the worst thing was the disgusting state of the small bottle that the milk was served in for the tea! It was so badly ingrained on the inside of the bottle with old milk that had dried on, it was absolutely appalling for an establishment to serve milk like that. I dread to think of the amount of BACTERIA that bottle was holding! I dont think they have washed it out EVER! It had never been sterilised. Have they not heard of a bottle brush! So cannot recommend this place. My opinion is there are loads of better cafes to go to.

This is a welcoming country barn, which serves tasty and appealing dishes. The open ciabatta melts were excellent and desserts lovely too. Service was a bit slow but the wait was worth it.

First visit for lunch for many years but would definitely return. Very tasty food, good sized portions reasonably priced with friendly service in an appealing setting. Large adjacent carpark.

Latish breakfast with my wife and another couple. The guys had the full English brekkie, one lady the small brekkie, and my wife the eggs Florentine. All loved the food and really nicely done and not fatty! Service excellent and informal and friendly. The interior has a great daytime ambience.

Went out just looking for a coffee and ended up ordering afternoon tea with Prosecco. Normally you have to give a little notice, but on this occasion they made an exception. The afternoon tea arrived with a selection of freshly made sandwiches, delicious fruit scones, jam, butter and clotted cream and the top layer was filled with a wonderful selection of cakes. The pot of tea made four tasty cups of tea and the prosecco went down a treat. The staff were very helpful and attentive and nothing seemed too much trouble. We are definitely going there again and would recommend to anyone.

Considering some of the previous reviews, we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was full, so we did have to wait but when the food arrived, we felt the wait was worth it. Very fresh and nicely presented. The tuna melt came with salad and chips. The jacket potato was good with salad served with a very nice raspberry dressing, which you can buy for £4 which did. Lots of beams and pretty twinkling lights. We liked it very much.

We visited after looking around the shops but were disappointed with the food we ordered. The menu mainly consists of sandwiches, small bites and ciabatta. The service is slow but friendly and polite but the food was bland, my jacket potato was brown inside and chewy skin! The minute steak ciabatta was underwhelming and side salad was straight from a bag! Could be and should be so much better especially for the price

Consistent with other reviews, the service was slow, took a long time to get drinks and the staff were clearly unable to cope. Food looks pretty but it’s all fairly bland and not particularly well cooked (mostly overdone). Style over substance I’m afraid.

The staff where welcoming and the restaurant was quiet with only a few tables occupied we where told we could sit at any table which as a couple was nice not to be relegated to the smallest table.

When I go out for a meal I want it to be something better than I could make at home myself. This unfortunately wasnt really the case when I visited The Barn at Swinfen for lunch. I think it must be the ingredients that they use arent really of a high enough quality for the type of establishment they want to be. Salad tasted and looked like it came from a bag with a pre bought dressing. Meat on sandwiches tasted like it came from a pre-sliced packet. Nothing I couldnt do myself at home.

The Barn at Swinfen is located within The Heart of the Country shopping village just outside of Lichfield. This place is well out of the way of anywhere so only accessible by car and you have to purposely visit the village to get to the restaurant. Parking is plentiful, however no matter what time we seem to visit here the car park always seems very busy but i suppose many spaces are used by the businesses themselves. Only a handful of boutique style shops, a couple of beauty salons and two eateries here so its not the type of place you go to look round very often. The Barn has a rustic feel being housed inside an old barn so with the number of tables space is limited but for summer they do have tables outside and toilets are across the courtyard. Decided to try sunday lunch which is two courses from £12.95 and three courses from £15.95, there doesn't seem to be an option for mains only. They have the traditional roast dinner with Turkey and Pork but Beef, Lamb shank and Salmon has a supplement. They also do other meals for the lunch menu as well. We had pre booked a table and were glad we did as the place was very busy. We sat down and were handed menus but it did take a long time for the drinks order to be taken. Then it was a while again before our drinks arrived and our food order was taken. We seemed to wait forever for our mains to arrive by which time we were starving but we did get an apology as it was very busy that day. The meat was proper meat, thickly carved, not processed and it was plentiful. It also came with roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings on the plate. A bowl of vegetables to share came separate which consisted of carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and red cabbage. The meal was worth the wait as the meat was delicious and the veg perfectly cooked, but only one roast potato was edible as the others were too burnt so i left them. We paid extra for one beef as it said it came with yorkies but having ordered the Turkey this still came with yorkies so was pleasantly surprised as it didn't say that on the menu. The quantity was more than enough and i struggled to finish my meal even though i was hungry to start so didn't really want a pudding but as the lunch was for two courses i ordered a dessert. The dessert selection was from the blackboard and consisted of cakes, puddings and ice cream. They had run out of my preferred option which would have been the cheesecake so instead I chose the apple pie with ice cream. This was a real let down. I imagined home baked tart pieces of apple, encased in a crispy pie but instead the whole thing was just slop. Very soft apple with hardly any taste or texture with soggy pastry and melted ice cream. It obviously had been microwaved which really spoilt the second course for me. This is housed in a small barn with a minute kitchen so the fact they get as many food options out as they do is a miracle. So because of this you have to be prepared to wait a long time and we were only a table of two. Some of the young staff didn't seem to know about everything on the menu so whilst we were waiting to order we watched a waitress going backwards and forwards several times to find the answer to questions which was frustrating. I would definitely go for sunday lunch again, mainly for the quality and quantity of meat that seems to be lacking in many carveries these days. You get that home cooked feel but just be prepared to wait and maybe think about your dessert option which will not be freshly baked out the oven but re heated in the microwave.

We go to The Barn quite often, normally for lunch on a weekend. The staff are really welcoming and friendly, and the food is always good! The only downside, in the colder months, is how cold it gets inside - we are leaving our jackets on normally...

The Heart of the Country Centre just outside Lichfield is well worth a visit with several different kinds of shops including an art gallery whisky and Gin shop and superb furniture shop. The barn is a great place to relax inside or out with a drink or snacks freshly prepared

Just been to this restaurant. Very disappointed. Took a long time for the food to arrive. Asked the young lad if we could have the drinks at the same time as the food, but alas the drinks arrived 15 minutes before the food.

Very welcoming. We were a family with a baby and a 4 year old plus grandparents. Breastfeeding friendly too. Vegetarians were catered for, although nothing obviously vegan I'm sure that they would be accommodating. Staff were certainly welcoming and friendly. I found the food good quality and value for money. I would definitely visit again

Very disappointing visit. Arrived with my friend and both of us had prams. There was just one other table taken at the time. There was no greeting or welcome from the member of staff, so when we asked for a table, she said gruffly “just wondering where I can PUT you”, with emphasis on the “put”. Charming! We explained that 2 others with prams would be arriving soon, to which we were told to sit outside. It looked like it might rain but we agreed and asked that if it does rain, can we return inside. We didn’t get an answer.

Very nice little place for a drop in snacky lunch. Menu was ok, with a few nice sounding specials as well. Staff were very helpful and attentive. I suspect that on a busy day for the shops this place would struggle to cope with demand as it is quite small. Would recommend

Worst Sunday lunch ever, had a very long wait for our Roast Turkey & stuffing which were both cold, the veg was steaming hot (obviously microwaved) also cold gravy. None of the food had any flavour. My husbands soup was also cold. Cramped table pushed in the corner at the end of the building. 5 of us ate and not one of us enjoyed it or would visit again. Decided we didn’t want dessert which is most unusual, couldn’t wait to get out of the place. Obviously we won’t be visiting again.

Stopped here for a Latte during our walk. Unfortunately it was made with instant coffee. We had a small size which was tiny. Two mouthfuls and it was gone and at £2.50 expensive. For that money you can get a decent size cup and a real latte. It is a shame because this is a nice place, but would go to the other cafe next time.

Astronomical prices! I called for a pint, only cider on was Somersby, it cost me £4.85 Dreadful place. No damn wonder it was empty, never again. Avoid, Wetherspoons is next door.
