Cute and cozy pre-theatre dinner spot. The food and wine were really tasty but a bit expensive for the portions. Would not recommend for a party bigger than 2 but definitely would recommend overall/go back.

We couldn’t get walk in tables at The Barbary so we went here. Service was prompt and the waitress explained in detail each item on the menu. Everything we got was pure bliss. The food is a masterful craft of flavours and textures. The things we got: - Afgan Khobz, lovely bread with toasted sesame seeds - Dolma, appetising and lovely cool creamy flavour from the yoghurt - Kapia Brûlée, elevated red pepper dip that has tanginess, sweetness, smokiness, umami all in one - Carmelita Mercado, a salad that explodes with textured flavours. Crunchy radish and walnuts with shredded cheese, and bulgur - Merguez Shakshukit, lovely spicy minced lamb with toasted pine nuts and a creamy tahini - Malabi, coconut cream with rose syrup and pistachios

Cute and cozy spot with nice wines. The food is good, we loved the aubergine dip, the mussels aguachile and the winter ajo blanco (we found the carrot dip, the okra and labneh and the brûlée dip to be okay, nothing remarkable). Service was alright considering how busy it was on a Wednesday night, though it is expensive for what it is (you end up ordering pretty much the whole menu to feel full). The ambiance is very cute and cozy, love the lighting and the setup.

We were early birds , so the first in to dine , very warmly greeted on arrival . Love the decor , interesting non alcoholic cocktails available . There isn't a huge menu , but I find this is better as the restaurant can more easily concentrate on offering great plates of food , which they do and there is enough choice and variety on show . We started with an Afghan bread and 2 dips , one carrot and harissa , slightly sweet and spicy , then the other a smoky aubergine dish , just delicious , creamyness and full of flavour . Followed by a tuna tartare and the mixed salad , sharp , lemon hints with the fish and the crunch and texture from the walnuts was a delight . We also had the Merguez Shashukit , which was very tasty , but the tuna was better . They also had a slow cooked beef shin with potatoes which looked amazing , but we'd run out of room !! Pricing was £55 per head in total . We will be back !

I’m not sure what’s North African about this place, but the food is certainly tasty, Only giving it four stars as one feels we’ve seen this before. Chickpeas, octopus and tomato, slightly modified baba Ganouche, artichoke purée, and beetroot salad. All well done, given exotic names but not very exciting. Service was excellent, but they do add 15% and remember you’re being served at a bar. I’m happy paying the extra 2.5%, but slightly cheeky. Arrived early and the atmosphere was good and then at 5:45 cranked up the 80s music over the 100 decibel level; unnecessary and bordering on unpleasant. Decent wine by the glass. I think if I was a tourist running around Covent Garden, this would definitely be one of the places I would go to. However, if I was said tourist, I would book at least a week in advance. They reserve two seats outside for walkins but it’s a small place and you won’t be able to just walk in and get a seat no matter what time you show up. Don’t think I will return, but I’m certain if you go you’ll be happy.

The atmosphere is cool and food is very unique and tasty. Staff are lovely and very knowledgeable. Definitely worth trying. However, this on the pricier side when you factor in the 15% service charge and the wine - the cheapest bottle is over £40.

We had heard that we should embrace the international food scene in London. In so doing, we made reservations at this small, lively, counter-only-seating restaurant in Neal’s Yard. And are we ever glad we did! The waitstaff was so helpful (and patient) in translating the menu and guiding us in our selections through their recommendations. Everything was beyond delicious. Where have these flavors been all my life? We shared the breads with two dips (the carrot and the eggplant), the tuna tartare, the artichoke dish, the sea bass dish and the chocolate cremeux for dessert. We would have liked to try another dish but we were comfortably full. I also enjoyed watching the kitchen crew in action. This restaurant will be at the top of our list if we are fortunate enough to return to London someday.

Overall disappointing. I wanted to try Barbary for a long time, and only managed to book Barbary Next Door for this weekend (we don't live in the UK). The food was okay, nothing extraordinary, the Jerusalem artichoke dish was quite good though. But the most disappointing thing was the portions..for example, they brought us the aubergine dish on a coffee saucer, barely covering the middle of it! I mean, I get the small tasting plates but this is ridiculous. We spent almost 80£ (no drinks) and left hungry! Also, sitting at the bar in a very crowded room, with people close to you from the sides as well as behind, and not knowing where to even put your winter jacket - not my cup of tea. Plus the music is waaaaay too loud - we couldn't speak much and finished our tiny-tiny dinner in just a few minutes. Won't be coming back, sorry, seems like a rip-off.

Food: - Every dish I had here was top notch. - Had the Fid Fashioned, which was a really solid twist on an Old Fashioned. - Started with both the breads, Afghan Khobz and Pain d'epi, alongside the Kapia Brulee - the breads were fresh and individually special in their own way, but the Kapia Brulee was the star of the show (it's a sweet yet somewhat savoury dip that goes really well with the breads). - Tried the Navelina Crudo, which was a Yellow Tail Crudo with Orange/Olives - first time trying a Crudo, and it was genuinely brilliant, but might be an acquired taste. -The Atlas Raclette was a good main, with potatoes in a strong and rich cheese, but it was the weakest of the three mains we tried. - The Merguez Shakshukit was amazing, with well spiced meat that went well with the breads (yes, we got extra). - The Barbary Chicken was superb, with a load of different spices giving it a lot of flavour. - Had the Hashcake to finish which I think is a must-try if you have space! Service: - Great service, with our waitress explaining every dish in amazing detail, helping us get exactly what we'd love. Atmosphere: - Intimate restaurant with a very very small space - staff do really well to serve everyone in such a tight space. - Great lighting and ambience. - Might be a bit too small, but I get the attraction.

Food down-scored for value rather than taste. Another example of the new nouveau cuisine sweeping its trend through central london. The service and taste of the food was fabulous. No complaints there. But it seems the cost of living crisis trend is to raise prices and serve an unreasonably small portion of food for the price you’re paying. £20 for one chicken thigh’s worth of “large plate” with a smear of Tahini and a couple of slices of onion and tomato, and a “merguez” dish with a distinct lack of sausage and a strong hint of around £1’s worth of wholesale fried lamb mince with spices and a drizzle of tahini. Plus, reheated stale bread. Another one to put on the list of “plenty of places just as tasty at a lot more reasonable price” and never to bother going to again.. So, in summary, if you want to be properly fed, go to 7 dials market and their street food places 2 minutes away and don’t pay the steep-for-a-cosy-place 15% service charge that add’s to their Mickey taking prices.

We ate before heading out to the theatre and it was a great spot and perfect for the occasion. It has a young and lively vibe (ie music and clientele were generally young but a mixture too). You sit along a counter on bar stools so great for eating as a couple - not so good if a larger group or if you want a quiet leisurely romantic dinner. We really enjoyed it - the food was absolutely amazing and we have already recommended it to our children too. The customer service was friendly and extremely prompt. I would DEFINITELY return.

Terrible value for money. We spent 75£ per head and still left like we could have eaten more. The dishes are tiny (tapas style) and though flavoursome, nothing out of the ordinary. This “next door” venue doesn’t have a bathroom so you have to walk to the main one every time you need the loo. There are so many other restaurants in the area where you can eat better food for less.

We really enjoyed our meal at The Barbary. It's a little tucked away near Neal's Yard and isn't real large inside but you have all the room you need once you're seated. We were told up to a 40 minute wait (no booking) but were seated inside 20 minutes. All the dishes were great, had a carafe of something Granadan (seemed to suit the occasion) and it was a great little wine. Meals were unique and well-balanced. After eating at the Barbary next door last Sat night I realised I had left my glasses behind and have had no luck in contacting anyone. There is no working contact number and despite sending 3 emails have had no answer. The menu is extremely sparse and I would recommend researching this before booking. We liked the look of our neighbours dish and ordered one also. Our tuna shashimi arrived and it was about one third the size of theirs. When we asked why they said it was because it was a different dish ( lie) they they brought us some extra beans? Also the waiter was very rude and told me to shush when I asked him something. The only thing I can recommend is the orange wine. Do not visit unless you are prepared to be lied to, told to shut up and not get your glasses back

It must just be me but the sister to adjoining Barbary is not hitting the spot. It shares some dishes and the counter style seating but without the styled decor and warm lighting of next door. Service was fine, crisp to acceptable depending on who attended, however the food was a disappointment after all the hype. Yes it’s small plates concept, think slightly stingy tapas bar, so you have to embrace that and you get to try a variety but when you add up a decent meal, (note: do take off the included service charge) I feel strongly that it’s essentially overpriced. The dips are very tasty but nothing more that a couple of £7 dessert spoons full to go with a croissant-sized bread at £4.50. The £12 butter bean stew was very flavourful but it is served in something resembling an oversized drinks coaster with a 5mm lip and I counted I think, nine beans it just a bit more than a generous dip size. Ordering the £21, 36 hour Mechoul Lamb resulted in a nicely presented half a palm/mini shank sized cut. The meat was nice and tender but not much different to standard shank cook so they could probably turn off the oven at 6 hours and knock a bit off the price. I expected a hit of North African style flavour but it came up bland. The cumin and salt on the side were definitely needed but didn’t really save the dish which needs more spices. So, say £50 a head net for dinner in the heart of the West End, not too bad on the face of it. However, that’s no where near enough food and if I added a another dish it would still not be up to scratch overall to differentiate it from the competition for value e.g. I would say the lamb is £10 overpriced and the beans £5 over, including service. It’s no better in the main Barbary room but there is slightly more choice so at least you won’t end up raiding the kitchen when you get back but you might have to take the bus home after the bill.

Little sister to the amazing restaurant next door. Absolutely excellent food, fresh and fun combinations of classic North Afircan fare. You get what you pay for for sure. A reduced menu compared to main restaurant next door. They serve breakfast and lunch light bites, all plates are small but very very savoury and lovely. We sat in the Neal’s yard courtyard and the service from Sam was excellent. Will be back.

A beautiful and cozy feeling I got the moment we entered the Restaurant. (Vas) seated us and explained each dish eloquently. Started with Four cheese bourekas, brown egg, tomato & zhug followed with Berries with tahini, greek yogurt, date molasses. Our main dish was Bus station eggs & Jerusalem bun with avocado & fried quail eggs. Finally had to try the yummiest almond croissants in London!

🤮a shame, they laughed at us for not speaking the language well, they gave us some hot soft drinks and we waited 16 minutes for them to serve us, I recommend going to any other nearby bar

Lively atmosphere with everyone sitting around the bar. You can see the food prep before getting your food, and interactions between staff. I really liked how the menu has enough options but is simple enough to making choosing very easy Waiting staff were super knowledge and quick! The food was really good but I think most of the cost is paying for the experience and location. I'd recommend for special occasions because of the experience and the quality of the food, but it is quite a casual place and felt a little hurried.

Amazing food, location and service. Let the waiters take control of your order they know what they’re doing.

Really don't get the hype around this place. The food was good, but everything is average, tiny and overpriced. We were disappointed

Came here with a friend and we both got the Doro wot with Injera. Some of the nicest food I’ve eaten in Brighton, the flavours are incredible and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Have come twice in 3

Delicious and authentic vegan Ethiopian food from one of the best Eritrean venues in North London. Visit for a range of small dishes served alongside injura.

Terrible. Terrible staff. Terrible service. Awful quality food. And the prices are astronomical. £30 for disgusting fish soup. Inedible rubbish. Avoid!

Fantastic food - freshly made and full of authentic flavour and spice. Options for vegetarians, vegans and omnivores. African beers too...and all served with good humour and a warm, relaxed atmosphere
